In a few days it's Christmas, and since Christmas is my favorite holiday of the year, I wanted to wish you all a merry Christmas! I also realised Christmas and creating are very much alike: they both bring joy, happiness and gifts, so that makes Christmas and Instructables an even better combination. Merry Christmas!!!

It's that time of year again - off to the in-laws for The Season Of Good Will. I'll be largely absent, so have fun, don't drink too much, and please remember to vote for the Kite Family in the various contests ending soon. Roger-X Conker-X (And don't forget me!)

Ok guys, I need some help. My mother has decided to throw a Christmas party, and I need help coming up with things to eat. Just little appetizers and finger foods. She wants to go ahead and get a menu together, so that we can kind of price everything (money is a bit tight this year). I'm drawing a blank as to what kind of goes with the holiday. Especially given the restrictions: No tomatoes, No corn, No shellfish. Some people coming over are extremely allergic to them. I have been asked to make a cheesecake and some bacon wrapped chicken. So that's two things. I need a few more. Any suggestions? Really any food that goes with the holiday, or just social get togethers with be appreciated.

Just a heads' up, I'm away for the Christmas break, visiting relatives without a useful internet connection* , so I will be less than my usual ubiquitous self over the next week or two. However, said relatives may be installing wireless broadband while we are there, so I may be able to pop in occasionally. The plan is to leave tomorrow morning (the 23rd), so, if we don't speak before then, Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.(Thank you for all your kind comments already!)*I will not sit in a cupboard to use dial-up!

Just a quick festive greeting to one and all, rushing to beat a dying battery and get you yet another huge meal. Bird books as expected, but also my father in law gave me a book that should end upp becoming the source of a really major instructable over the Easter / Summer breaks... Oh, and we've been invited to stay with friends in Summer. In Geneva - the Swiss one. Anyhoo, hope you've all had as grand a Christmas as Family Kite and all associated families. "See" you all later. >K<

I made this in dedication to all the great people in my life. The text version is for all maccies and linuxers out there. Note that I finished this at 1:16 AM, and wanted to get it out for all the people who have Christmas tomorrow, and so errors are expected. I also know that it is not politically correct to say "Merry Christmas," but I don't really care.

Hey, very merry Christmas to all you folk. I'd just like to share one of my favorite quotes from "A Charlie Brown Christmas". And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the fields, keeping watch over their flocks by night. And lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the lord shone round about them, and they were so afraid. And the angel said unto them, Fear not, for behold, I bring unto you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you this day is born in the City of Bethlehem, a Savior, which is Christ the Lord. And this shall be a sign unto you; you shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes and lying in a manger. And suddenly there was with the angel, a multitude of the heavenly host, praising God, and saying, 'Glory to God in the highest, and on Earth peace, good will toward men. ~Linus Thanks for an awesome year, and I will be looking forward to more great experiences with all you folks in the coming time. Go in peace, IaC

We know Kiteman is off doing whatever it is that the English do at Christmas. I would theorize, from reading the Daily Mail that they gather around the Christmas shrub surveilling each other while waiting for the proper health and safety training to use a ladder to place a star on top the tree, afterwards they go wassailing dressed in Burberry and commit knife crimes, but I don't know. Myself, I'm taking my wife out tonight to partake in Wigilia at a local Polish Restaurant, Christmas itself will be a low key affair, capped off with a Standing Rib Roast.I saw that joem1523 had posted some very tasty lookingSausage Rolls and I just got to wondering what your plans are for the holiday?

I had some duct tape lying around and was wondering to myself 'what stuff for Christmas can you make out of duct tape!' If anyone has any ideas about possible duct tape Christmas decorations or other Christmas related crafts, please let me know...I really want this Christmas to be a little more interesting than last years...

Hey all, I decided that since so many people were wanting to see my new gun, I'd post it early. Besides, there are so many christmas guns because people were following the trend, that mine would be overlooked. So, take a look, tell me what you think. www.instructables.com/id/TJASTR2-1/ (PS I know this is a bit spammish, but since my last instructable wasn't posted for 4 days, I'm thinking that this might not even come out for christmas.)

I'm a freshman in college right now and I really want to spruce up my suite and room a little for Christmas. So Christmas lights would come to mind to display at my suite's door, but because of fire hazard rules/laws we can't have extension cords. I think I also read that we can't have Christmas lights period. So I started thinking I could make something out of LED lights to attach to our door so people walking by can see. I was thinking maybe an outline of a Christmas tree made of green LEDs would be cool or putting LEDs inside a wreath to light it up. Which would be the best way for me to power all of the LEDs? I've never worked with LEDs before, so this would be new to me but I really want to put something together. I basically want to chain a bunch of LEDs together, power them with batteries, and have the ability to turn them on at night and off in the morning. So, any ideas would help a lot. Maybe a point in direction.

Each year I do a "Christmas Project" that I give to friends and family. I'm completely uninspired this year. Anyone have something great they've made? I have to be able to make it for 15 or so people and the cost is usually $5 to $10 a person (though some years I have a more expensive project so I give to fewer people). I've done velvet scarves, candles, curry mix, blacken seasoning, kleenex holders, spiced nut mixes, caramels, painted dinner napkins, bent rebar garden art, and a few more I can't think of (I wish I had step-by-step photos for all of these!). Thanks for the ideas.

Hi everybody, Plasmana here...I have been been inactive lately because I have a lot of stuff do, and now, I have to say this is going to be the worst christmas I have ever experienced...Because,My granddad passed away...So, I am very sad at the moment..And there has been a lot of bad things happing to UK at the moment, some stores are shutting down, causing many people losing their jobs, and there has been severe flooding in some parts of the UK...Because a lot of bad things happened, I may be inactive from instructables for a long time, but I will still be able to post some comments....

Ok, I'm not a big one for receiving gifts. I like telling me people to get me this or that, that if the need for something was that great then I would already have it. Well my wife won't leave it alone, so she is making me make a list. I have nothing nerdy or diy oriented although I've always loved everything about instructables / make. Basicly I'm hoping people on here can give me an idea of where I can start. First off maybe suggest a book to get me started in circuitry / electronics, don't really need one probably due to online tutorials. Also I need tools, tell me what tools a novice electronics hobbyist should invest in first. Thanks!

Well since knex is slowing down I thought that providing a contest people might get people start to build more. So there is a holiday contest where you can make a holiday themed creation. This could be almost anything. I will judge the contest on overall looks. You can enter as many things as you want. The prize for winning will be me 5 staring every one of your ibles and a subscription. Please ask any question and go at and build. Hint a video usually makes things look better. Go out and build -sprout_less

Hello, I became pro for two years yesterday, and I have given away 2 of my 40 patches, and I doubt I will ever give them all away without hosting a few contests. The contest is to submit an Instructable (Must have instructions) that is Christmas themed, and send the link to me by private message. The winner will get a specially made patch. The runners up will be featured in a guide. The deadline is January 12th 2011. Thanks, Flannel UK

I have an idea but have no idea if it would even work. I would like to make a led string that can be two different colors. The idea is that I put the lights up in October and they are purple and orange for Halloween and then as Christmas approaches I can change them to green and white. That way I can put lights up one time and do it when it is still warm out and my neighbors wont think I'm nuts. I know I can weave two lines together and just switch plugs but that isn't complicated enough. I like to do things that are way more complicated than it needs to be but are really cool when they are done. my wife loves it.

From my inbox this afternoon: GEMINID METEOR SHOWER: This weekend, Earth will pass through a stream of debris from extinct comet 3200 Phaethon, source of the annual Geminid meteor shower. Forecasters expect more than 100 meteors per hour to fly out of the constellation Gemini when the shower peaks on Dec. 13th and 14th. For most observers, the best time to look will be from 10 pm local time on Sunday night to dawn on Monday morning. Visit http://spaceweather.com for photos, a sky map, and live audio from a meteor radar. Sounds like a chance to arrange a unique Christmas gift for a loved one. Update: I've done a bit more reading about the Geminids, and they may not be suitable for collection by magnets. It seems they are the rocky remains of a dead comet, so lack metallic iron. However, I have added a map so you can work out where to look.

I want to have a nightmare before christmas halloween party in a couple years, but in the years i wait i want to make some custom decorations. Does anyone have any ideas? They must be fairly inexpensive i am fifteen so i dont have very much income, but the can be time consuming since i have years. And how about some christmas style decorations too. thankz in advance! P.S. my favorite materials are paper, popsicle sticks, and duct tape so if it includes those materials it is that much better.

I have a small set of Christmas lights that will not come on. With my multimeter I tested the fuses, several light sockets (the one closest to the plug, the one furthest away, and one closer to the middle), and the female plug on the end. I'm getting 120v coming out of the female plug, the sockets are providing between 2v and 4v, and the fuses provide almost no resistance, and the filaments are visibly intact. What's wrong?

I heard this really neat Christmas song on the radio. It was a medlley of christmas songs and Led Zeppelin songs. I don't know what Christmas songs there were but there were parts of Communications Breakdown, Rock and Roll, and Kashmir. If somebody could tell me who did this and post a video of it I would appreciate it.

8-Bit Jesus is an 18 track album featuring everyone's favorite Christmas jingles, but made with the music and sound effects from classic NES games. It was all amazingly well made by Doctor Octoroc. You can listen to and download the whole album for free HEREHovever Octoroc's 6-month-old Pembroke Welsh Corgi puppy called Ein, has had to have bladder stone surgery recently. So if you donate $15 the doctor will send you a physical copy of the CD, and you'll help a dog in the process !(The dog is in the 2nd pic)
