Charging for the print book and the classes you are pushing on us is like Microsoft forcing us to download windows 10 and it bricking the screen or the $1500 computer then running a message your equipment does not match and you need to update and now you have ballast to put corner weight in the race car

electronics classes

OK so I made some throwies, had a lot of fun with them and now want to learn more. (My 89 yold mother put some on her cane! It is almost a Rosarch test to see what people think of to do with them.) I am very intrigued with all of the things that you can do with led's. HOWEVER, I really don't know anything about electronics. Where should I look, what should I do to learn some basics? I have forgotten everything I (n)ever knew about electricity. I would like to be able to read and understand a simple circuit diagram. I would like to be able to figure out simple circuits and projects on my own. Any suggestions? GLO

Where is the robotics class??

I had let my Premium membership slip, but then I saw an offering for a series of classes on robotics.  That was interesting to me, so I renewed my Premium 2-year membership specifically for that class.  But now when I look into the class selections there is no mention of robotics at all and I can't navigate back to when I first saw the offering.  So, where is the robotics class? I'd hate to think that I bought 2 years premium membership and not get access to the main reason that I renewed.

Engineering Class Suggestions

I'm part of an Engineering Club at my school and we're looking for future projects that just explore some ideas of Engineering in general. We would like to come up with our own ideas at some point, but for now, a lot of us are inexperienced, so I thought I could come here and find some stuff. So far, we have decided to build a bunch of Stirling Engines and use them for miscellaneous things, but after that, we have no other ideas. Could you guys come up with some ideas (possibly your own or ones that you have done), that are similar to this idea of teaching the basics of making things and stuff like that? Links would be helpful. Guidelines: Because we do this at school, there are certain rules that prevent us from bringing large knives and laser pointers on campus. Power tools and exacto knives are OK, though (IKR?). Also, because we are students, we have to scavenge around for materials, so unless it's less than ~30$, we might not be able to do that either.

Best Platform Choice For Computer Science/Robotics Class?

The teacher of my computer science class (which has focused mostly on programming) wants to completely redo the curriculum to be more robotics centered, and he wants me to help. So, I need to try and find the best kit/components to start building and programming robots. If anyone here knows where we should start, I would really appreciate some help. I was looking at Nerdkits, and since my teacher wants the projects to be expandable into anything we want to do, this seems like a good solution. I have one, I haven't used it much, but one of the things I noticed is that it might be a little intimidating for students just starting out in the class.     Another choice that I want to look into is Arduino. I really haven't looked into this at all, but I've heard of many projects that use it, and it sounds like an easier platform to learn, but still flexible to any project.     The third choice I was looking at was Lego NXT. I know this is completely different from the other two mentioned so far, but I'm thinking this may be a better way for students to start out and then move onto the Arduino or Nerdkits. There is also a firmware that will let you upload Java code onto it, which would work out well since my teacher already knows Java. Since I have one of these, I could also donate/sell it to the school, which would reduce the cost for the school.     I will keep researching these and looking for better options, but I would also appreciate input from you guys! So if you know anything about this, or of a forum where I should ask for help, please let me know. Thank you for any help!

Arduino D1 WeMos with LabView

Hey, I want to build a project that gets information from the "Temp102" sensor connected to the D1 WeMos Board. This board sends the information received from the sensor via WiFi. I want this information that sends to the computer that has the LabView software and it will display the temperature in a termometer. I have a program that I found in one of the sites that does what I want but with one problem! The program is written for module Esp8266, which is connected to board Arduino Uno and therefore has different classics. I need help converting the classics of module ESP8266 to relevant classes for Board D1 WeMos (This board has ESP8266 but it is built-in so there is no need to set it up in the program). It's important to note that I tried to change it and make a "mix" but without success. I would be happy if someone could check in the program what should be changed, which orders should be replaced? (I believe it's 2 minutes work for anyone who knows) Thank you very much for your help ! I appreciate you very much !! I attached the programs (for arduino and for labview).

Instructables for teachers

I have tried twice this year to register in the the "Instructables for Teachers" section and have not heard back. How does a person become a member of that section? If other teachers are having the same difficulty I'm having I fear Instructables is losing out on what could be a great resource. I run an after school program where kids make crafts every day. I would like to share some of their projects here but I don't want to share them under my own personal Instructables handle - kokoleo, as the work they create often comes from their own ideas and  is not  indicative of my personal style. Should I simply create a new handle called Club Teasdale (the name of our program) and post them separately? If I do that, then how do we become involved in the "Instructables for Teachers" section?

Classes now in the recent answers section!?

Not sure if it is supposed to be a feature or a bug: The recent answers are now filling up with classes, which I find rather annoying. Someone asks a question in these online classes and the whole thing shows up with the description, enrolment and all. Even if were to answer the question I would still need to scroll through all of it, go through all answers so far to find the last one and then.... If that keeps going the answers section will be flooded by classes for no reason that I can think of :(

Provide cost estimate at the start of classes?

I love the new classes feature here at Instructables, and have the ambition to complete as many of them as possible. I do have some feedback for them, however, and that is that the introduction to the class should include a rough estimate of how much it's going to cost to buy the various bits needed to complete the class. I've just finished the Arduino class and loved the fact that a lot of the lessons leading up to the final project contributed to the final build, and as such helped keep the costs of buying the materials (relatively) low. The same can't be said for the Electronics class, however, which has different projects to build for each lesson and is working out rather expensive as a result. Now please understand, I'm not complaining about the fact you have to build a project for each lesson. If anything I'm rather enjoying it. But a little heads up of what roughly how much the class is going to end up costing would be a welcome addition. I can see this consisting of two different sums: - the cost of equipment which is needed, but once you have it, you have it for keeps. - and the cost of any materials which will be consumed by the project. I'm keen on moving onto another class just as soon as I complete the Electronics one, but would like to be able to work out which one I should go for, taking things like price into account, before I get started - rather than maybe having to abandon the class because I suddenly find I can 't afford some of the equipment or materials I'll need for it. Thank you
