Hello, I recently acquired this clock (photos attached), after googling around, i think it is some type of network synced clock.. It has a green plastic cover with a transparent front side, the cover has no buttons at all ( it s not a radio clock). the only input output are those 4 pins in the 4th photo. I think it can be a good project,  maybe box it in wood, but i have no idea how to make it work. can you help :)? thanks

Here's a cool concept made by Oren Hetzroni. It's a clock in a jar where the hands move around the inside of the glass. Reading it is a little tricky, but if you match up the big and little hands with the numbers you can figure it out. Remaking this one is super easy. Just put the movement inside the lid and bend the hands at a right angle so they move around the side. jar via core77

Will using time library with an Attiny/45/85/84 ( http://playground.arduino.cc/Code/Time ) create an accurate clock? I keep on seeing people using these external crystal things. Do I need one? Isn't millis pretty dang accurate? How would I sync the clock with real time?

Hi Everybody, I'm new to the forum of inscrutables, but I've been bored at work recently and been thinking of things to brighten the place up. I've come up with an idea, but have very limited technical skills, if somebody could just point me in the right direction so that I could start this project I would be really appreciative and would post up pictures and videos of the final product. Idea: Essentially, I work at a pool where the lifeguards rotate every 15 mins, which they forget to do OFTEN! Me and a few others have decided to make a clock to replace our current one that would, every 15 mins make a noise, or say "rotate" to remind them to rotate on time. It would also be fun if we could have several different voices saying "rotate" of different employees. I'm pretty sure this can be done because I've seen clocks that make bird chirping noises, But I can't figure out how they work. Any help would be awesome, I really want to learn new things, which I think is everybody's reason for being on instructables anyway. Thanks, George

Hey, I'm new on here but realllyyy need some help in this as I have a limited technological background. Basically I have a project in which have two digital displays, each one displaying either the time, in minutes or the hour (two digits per display). Now what I want to do with these is effectively attach these on to the hands of an analogue clock, so that when the hands spin round, the time is displayed. For example when the minutes hand is at the quarter past mark, the display will read 15 and when the hour hand is at the bottom the other display will read 06. So I have the designs ready for this clock (including counterweights and whatnot) but I just need a very powerful clock movement, or gearing system that will enable me to turn a couple of heavy clock hands, I have seen online you can but high torque movements which at the moment is my best bet, but i cant imagine it will work very well to be honest. I would really appreciate any response or something to point in the right direction as I'm very open minded and if the issue is solved, I will be sure to put up instructions on how this clock was made. This clock has an eraser in the hour hand so it can erase the marks on the face of the clock as it goes along. Pretty good way of clearing the way for more events, but you might want to write down those notes somewhere else as well. Dry Erase Clock

Does anyone know how to power 24 LEDs. I wish to make a clock that shows hours and five minuite intervals in LEDs for my A Level Electronics project. The LED's could be split into 12 on two circuits if that is easier. Has anyone tried this before or can help me?

Clock idea = out!any other idea for a higher torque clock-like motorhere's a very very brief photo of my idea. The light gray is the rotatingfood area and would be push by the dark gray (white out!) motor. the yellowthing is a hatch. It was just for me to write my thoughts down and I know the hand will run into the wall and everything. The sloped rectangleis a ramp on the inside so the food turbine will move spilling down theramp into the bowl. Also the big hand is actually the hour hand, I drewa small minute hand to show it was a clock, This has it worked so it willfeed every 12 hours and needs to be refilled every day.I don't really need any critique just answers for now '"

I've always wanted a nixie clock but am new at electronics. I was thinking, couldn't you take a regular clock that uses a 7 digit display and convert that to run nixies? For example, if you want to display an 8 you would have AND logic gates on all the digit leads so when they all are on it activates a relay (or switch thing) that causes complete the circuit from a high voltage souce the nixie tube?

I want to make a desk clock as a small project for myself. What I am looking to create is a slim clock with a spiral hour hand. The time would be told by graduated marks on the back-plate i.e. as the hour hand turns, the spiral increases and the correct hour is reached by the spiral, hard to explain, can't upload a photo as instructable server maintenance is under-way, hopefully I'll be able to upload the brief sketch I did in paint which might help!! What I am looking for is suggestions on a material which could be used for the hand, it needs to be thin so as to make it as easy as possible to tell the time and also strong enough not to distort under its own weight. Haven't decided whether it's going to be a normally incrementing spiral or a Fibonacci spiral (or similar logarithmic spiral)

My sister (yes, the one for whom I made earrings) wants me to modify an alarm clock to run a small electronic device when it goes off. Preliminary research has given me two methods:1) A digital clock with a 555 timer circuitIn this setup, a 555 timer circuit is used to translate the signal to an alarm speaker/piezo disk into a relay. When the clock goes off, the relay clicks, and any electrical device that is run through the relay has power.2) An analog clock with a transistor amplifierIn this version, the analog clock seems to just have a straight DC output to the alarm. The transistor is used to amplify the DC to drive the motor of a fire bell.Which of these would be easier to implement? The device I am supposed to use runs off of 3VDC, so I was just going to run the power line through the relay or through the transformer.

Hi. We love clockwork, steampunk etc and keep buying clocks and watches that arent working. The plan is to deconstruct them to make some other things but now we have several clocks (early 20th century) that we think could be got to work. However we dont know what to do. Does anyone know an online place that tells you (for free) how to do this? I know there are loads of dvds and books but am hoping we wont have to go down that route. thanks

I need to build a device for a competition that can measure time acurate to the tenth of a second, but from its starting position it must be no more than 30cm in dimension, but can exceed that once it begins.  Even if you know of something that can do seconds that would be fantastic.  If you have any ideas or places to find plans please do tell.  IT CANNOT USE ELECTRICITY

I've been trying to do more DIY stuff recently, so I figured I would start out with an easy project. Basically, I was wondering if it is possible to modify a standard digital clock so it could display different messages through an lcd display based on the current time. Since most clocks have an alarm feature, I thought this would be pretty easy to do, but then again I could be completely wrong. I know how to solder and such, so I shouldn't have too many technical problems if I get a push in the right direction. Also, I know how to do a bit of coding, and I'm good at adapting so I'm sure I could find out some way to make this work. Any help is much appreciated.

I took apart my alarm clock and took out the speaker and put in a headphone jack. Now it can wake me up and i was wondering if someone could help me figure out what the specific alarm electric thing looks like. I want it to be able to set off a motor that pulls off my sheets. I know absolutely nothing about circuit boards and things like that. any info would help. thanks

HI, I work for a church and we have a major problem of losing track of time, we've been looking at buying a large digital timer, but there expensive. Does anyone know how to build a panel that is pretty large (1'x3') that can be controlled, or start/stop/reset?

Hi! I dont know if here its a good place to talk about this idea but..here i come. First of all I just saw "In Time" movie, that from Justin Timberlake you know, and I was thinking about the green clock in their arms. I thought that I can do it with a projector or somekind of stuff like that..( like a PIPBOY 3000 from fallout, projectin right on my arm). But Imnot happy with that way so Im here asking for help... Would you know how to do a subcutaneous clock or maybe some transparent film around arm with leds, i dont really know. Brainstorming here please! What I want to do is this, -get rid of my alarms stupid sounds -insert a custom sound -do it cheap -and make it small enough I can still put it in a custom casing (the casing is the easy part, I'll have no issue making that.) I have looked around and have seen several ways to hack alarm clocks but I can't see how any of them would help me out with this particular problem. The way I see it I will probably need to rewire the clock so that it sends power to an external device when the speakers are supposed to go off. The only other way I can think of is having a small computer with one of those pre-programmed clocks but that would be more expensive than buying the sound recording clocks and a bigger pain to fit into the casing. I also think I heard someone talk about making homemade circuits, I don't know if that would work at all but it's worth mentioning. I would like to be able to find easy to follow instructions that are CLEAR and not super complicated. Any help would be appreciated! BTW, yes, I have looked at the sound recording clocks online and they all look like crap or are way to expensive to bother with.

Hi, im building a clock for my AS level design and technology course. one of my ideas is to have a clock mechansism in the base, hidden, and have a gear system turning the hands above it. below is a small and very undetailed picture i came up with just now. tp show you. what i need is to find a very strong clock mechanism. one that will have enough power to drive the gears. if anyone can help me with finding one i would very much appreciate your help.

I was looking to make a countup clock that would be able to count off time in seconds, minutes, hours, days, and years using seven segment displays. I have yet to be able to find an instructable like this. I imagine it would be very similar to a normal clock; however I do not know enough about electronics to be able to modify the standard clock instructables to be able to make my own.  The only way I know to do this with the knowledge I currently have is to make a mini PC and that would be cost prohibitive as well as overpowered.   The idea came up because I have my one year anniversary approaching and I figured it would be neat to have a clock whose sole purpose is to give an exact time count of being married.  I played around with the idea of having the clock play a song or display something any time a new year was added, but I figured for now to just stick to the basics.   If anyone knows of an instructable that fits this idea or is willing to make one/point me in the right direction here, that would be fantastic. 

I had a couple of quartz time switches that had stopped working and a very cheap inaccurate clock in my workshop. I also had a double faced outdoor clock that only worked when it felt like it! My solution to this was to make a driver circuit where the mains frequency was reduced to 0.5Hz to run the stepper motors. The output is from an H-bridge that can deliver up to 800mA so in theory I could have a lot of slave clocks. A switch gives a choice of three outputs, stopped (to put all clocks back), fast forward (to run clocks ten times normal speed) and normal operation. All in all a thoroughly satisfactory operating system.I have now had the crazy notion of creating chimes for the outside clock. I want to have a chime every quarter hour and to strike the hours as well. I do not want an electronically reproduced replica of bells played on a loudspeaker. I have made tubular bells from water pipe and just need to fine tune them. I also have a prototype striker system that operates via small solenoids. I can use my 0.5Hz clock signal and reduce it further to get a trigger every fifteen minutes. I also want to silence the chimes from 11pm to 7am so will have to include timing for this.My dilemma is that I don’t know the best way to get the results I want. I have ideas for electromechanical systems and electronic circuitry to do this. I was wondering about decade counters cascaded and connected via diodes to the relevant solenoids through transistors. The sequence would be interrupted by an output feeding the clock inhibit where necessary and the next quarter hour signal would ground that to restart the chiming. Obviously this will end up with a lot of circuitry and be a bit of a nightmare to assemble - definitely not for the faint hearted! There must be an easier way that my limited knowledge is overlooking but I guess that the answer is not that simple or there would be quartz clocks readily available that did this, albeit with a loudspeaker rather than mechanical chimes.If anyone out there has had the patience to read all this and has any ideas that might help me out then I would gladly be open to suggestions. I am a hobbyist trying to add a striking feature to an existing clock.My clock is a quartz movement with a set of contacts that close briefly every time the hour hand passes the 12 position. This pulse is used to trigger a solenoid which when energised causes a plunger to strike a bar and produce a resonant bell sound. I include the cct. I am currently using. The 6v. battery powers the 10 ohm solenoid coil & U2 the LD1117 IC which provides the 1.5v needed by the quartz movement. My project is to change the hourly strike from a single stroke to one which strikes the hour the correct number of times to indicate the time, the same as a mechanical striking clock does - 1 stroke at one oclock - 2 strokes at 2 oclock etc.continuing to 12 and then beginning again at 1 oclock. Unfortunately my electronic ability does not extend to using counters and timer ccts so I am looking for help with my project. I would greatly appreciate any help with the circuitry needed to allow me to complete this project. TIA, RMHC.

I was just wondering I anyone has ever seen a rig that you could use at home, during exercise, to do precise measurement of the time it takes to run 100m (eg.)? It's a little awkward to do with a stop watch in your hand and there is lots of room for error. You would need a beep to tell you that time has started, and some way to stop the time once you have reached the desired distance. thanks Alan

I have small projection alarm clock that projects time and temparature on the wall powered by a small LED. The light emited by that LED is small and hence the image is also lightly visible. I wanted to hack this one and put a high powered LED to get a brighter image on the wall . What can be done?.?

I really hope someone can help me. I really need a clock I can have outside. I teach classes outside and I need to know what time it is. Waterproof clock prices are exorbitant... I bet they're easy to make. Nothing comes up when I google waterproof clock works. I have this huge metal disk I found by the side of the road and it would be cool to make that into a gigantic outdoor clock. But how to make sure it's not destroyed the first time it rains...?
