realistic firing mechanisms.

Has anyone developed a detachable magazine with internal follower mated to a weapon which isolates the cocking and chambering of a round? i.e. the weapon is automatically chambered when the ram rod is cocked.

Any easy way to hack a projection alarm cock (led to ceiling) so that I can turn the projector on/off with a remote?

I assume the clock has the ability to turn the projector on/off.  How hard would it be to hack in a remote control for this feature?  (they dont seem to sell anything like this.)

knex idea

I had a idea i don't know how it would work but what happens is you cock the gun and every time you press the trigger the ram goes up a little bit and fires so you fire like this cock, pull trigger, pull trigger, pull trigger, pull trigger etc

Semi auto

OK my Dad took a hand-gun safety coarse and he got to use a Semi Auto, He learned how it was semi auto. when you cock it once it loads a bullet and the firing pin is pulled back. Bang you fire! the the recoil from the gun re-cockes the gun!and you fire and so on!

New Gun: Prototype XM-177 Compact , should I post?

This is a gun prototype, meaning it is not quite done yet, that fires yellow rods. It is named after the CAR-15/XM-177 assault rifle from Colt, however it IS NOT full-auto, meaning you have to cock it each time to fire. You can cock it by pulling the "bolt" back as seen in pictures 3 and 4, 3 bieng in the cocking position and 4 being in the cocked position. Picture 1 is of the chamber with one shot in it, and picture 2 is of the butt of the gun. Picture 5 and 6 are of the sights, 5 is the first sight and 6 are the rear sights. So tell me, should I post it? UPDATE: 4/28/07 I added two more pics. Picture 7 is a view through the sights, picture 8 is of a bi-pod I designed specificaly for this gun.

how do you build a grenade launcer?

It looks like a short sholder mounted rocket launcher only it takes the big co2 canisters, fires those nerf footballs that have tails, and loads from the top by cocking the front barrel forward and loading the round into the barrel before snapping it back. It was in a video on youtube.

Knex PP-2000

I am building a Knex PP-2000 because there isn't one on instructables. It is a magazine fed pull back, with a range of 20-25 feet at the moment. I am going to give it more power, make an adjustable stock and make a cocking lever, then probably post it. I just thought I'd show you all first :)

Does anyone know of a good knex machine gun that fires rods rapidly and uses relatively few pieces to build? Answered

Most of the automatic guns on site either fire rubber bands, need cocking before each shot, or take more pieces than I have. Do any of you have even ideas for something like this? If not, I guess I have something to work on!

UPDATED What Airguns Do You Own/Recommend?

I ended up getting a Crosman Vantage. It was on sale for $70. I think the MSRP is $145. Yeah, I know, it's just a budget springer. But that was what I was looking for. Not something to last me the rest of my life. It has a good reputation for decent accuracy if you use the artillery hold. With 7.9 grain pellets it should be getting about 900 +/- FPS. It came in the mail the other day. Pyramid air has fast shipping. The wood is acceptable, and the barrel lock up is very solid and their is practically no barrel droop. I haven't shot it yet, but the barrel is very easy to cock for a sub magnum springer. Of course I only cocked it 80% of the way and I don't want to dry fire it. I have some Crosman Premier Hollow Points to try in it, as well as some cheap pointed pellets and destroyers I'll use to break it in. I think it will be fine for tin can killing. Not sure it's the best hunting implement, since the included scope is meh.

Bobby Pin Snapper

When I was a kid, we used to twist bobby pins around in such a way that if you pressed it up against someone's skin it would release and produce a quite painful but totally harmless sensation. Then you could just "cock" it and it would be ready to go again and again. I have destroyed many bobby pins recently trying to reproduce that devilish little toy but have not been able to do it. Does anyone out there know how this was done? I think it would make a marvelous instructable.

Would a gun powered by a ram get the bullets out of a extra long barrel? 4. what's the difference between slide action and bolt action? 5. How would you make a cock? 6. What's a bipod? 7. How would you build a fixed mag? If I have any more questions, I'll edit the topic and bump the topic

An idea that mite make knex semi auto.

For the average knex gun, you need to cock it everytime you pull the trigger. couldnt you get a giant fat spring that could act as extra recoil? if you made a gun with a short firing pin and a few bands, with a strong and long spring, dont you think it might be able to be semi auto? If it did work eventually afta about 5 bullets the power would be lost. but still it could work? maybe not sure.

new knex pump action

Please try to make it off of my crude drawing. If you post an ible please give me credit or tell me if it has been done. If so post link. The way it works is when you pump it the pusher hits the top most ammo. That pushes it onto the ammo lifter. When you pump forward  that pulls the string which raises the ammo lifter. That then becomes part of the bottom of the barrel. Then you cock the gun and fire. Repeat. P.S. The scriblls on the paper are not hyroglfics they are words.

Can I detatch the cylinder from a typewriter so that the bell and sliding mechanism still properly function?

I have an idea for modding a nerf gun involving attatching a typewriter cylinder to it so that either firing or cocking the gun causes the cylinder to "Ding".  Is it possible to safely detatch the cylinder of an old typewriter so that the sliding mechanism and bell still function correctly?  Also, could someone please provide me with a chart of the individual mechanisms within an antique typewriter? Thank you Instructables.

New Firing Mech?

So I was messing around with my knex when i realized i had made a new (I think) firing mech. It works similar to a hammer on a revolver. To cock the firing pin you just have to pull down on the hammer. Its very easy to do with one hand so you can  dual wield. Range is only about 20 feet though. I'm planning on working on it some more so i will update soon.

Need Help With AirGun?

Okay, I've made air rifles before but this is a little more complicated... This one is a replica of a M14 (kinda). It's going to be powered on C02 cartridges and all the insides are going to be hid. So how it's going to work, you insert a C02 cartridge and pull a lever and that will push the C02 into a pipe that has an airtight seal and will pop the foil on the cartridge. From there the air will flow to a "holding" chamber, on the end of the "holding" chamber there will be a button valve (http://tinyurl.com/4h3us6c), from the button valve the air will flow to a second "holding" chamber were there will be a home made piston type valve (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=No3nI07mlQo). Then you cock the bolt and a magazine or a single chamber (haven't decided yet) and a bullet type ammunition will be loaded in. The ammo has two parts (like a real one) the actual projectile and the casing, in the back of the casing there will be an air tight seal. A "tube" will be inserted when the bolt is pushed forward, and the seal will be made. So when you pull the trigger is pulled the piston will release the air from the second chamber and shoot the bullet out the barrel. So the shooting proses would cock the bolt, insert the bullet, close the bolt, press the button valve to release the "airlock" type chamber, and the pull the chamber. So what I need to know is how big do the two chambers have to be, what kind of velocity would I be able to achieve, and is this a good idea? Thanks for the help, Nick

NEW GRENADE LAUNCHER: H.S.S.P. V3 (Heavy Support Splodie Pistol)

Hello everyone, I yesterday builded this modification of the HSSR, the advantages: - smaller - easier to load and cock - more reliable (less barrel, so less drag) - easier to build disadvantages: - looks less cool (my opinion:P) - less accuracy So I think this gun is better than the rifle version, but also check it (It's an instructable). grtz Infinnion, EXTRA: you can add some grey connectors to the side of the gun to hold splodies. WARNING: I'm not responsible for any damage to urself, your house, your cat. So plz dont shoot at animals or people (or expensive windows:P:P:P).

Knex Halo DMR

Hello guys! I recently built a Knex DMR off Halo reach. Its really cool looking but I have no interest in finishing it. It does work and function just like the Halo DMR.  It has a working bolt that does cock the weapon. It holds 15 grey connectors inside its removable magazine. It is a truly bullpup gun. It shot 35FT using the two bands. It also has a true pull straight back trigger. I have more important guns to be building than this one. (Sorry for the camera image quality, it was taken with my dads Canon camera.)

K'nex L98A1 Questions

Ok, So I'm about to start building an L98A1. However, I don't think I should use the cocking handle assembly because K'nex is just too weak to hold up to it. My idea is to use a handle set-up like the SA80, ie. straight into the bolt. I would rather use the rail handle idea though, so if anyone has any suggestions, I'd be happy to hear them. Oh, and some design features: Should have decent range Definitely a curved mag Accurate to about 20 feet Will use a fair few pieces Will have a realistic TMH set-up: ie. Sear behind the mag.

RBG: Shotgun Style

Yes, it is the only shotgun rubber band gun that I know of. It is based off of the Remington M870 and can be easily modified to be both be in an entry shotgun configuration, with tactical buttstock, or in a "Breeching weapon" configuration, with no buttstock. In the first picture, it is in the entry configuration. In the second picture, it is in the breeching configuration, but with the buttstock shown to show how it could be carried in a briefcase or something similar. There is no difference whatsoever between the two, other than the obvious difference in the buttstock, but less obvious, the breeching configuration has more mobility in the cocking hammer, so it works better. I am sorry for the lack of pictures of the internals, I will hopefully be posting them in the future.

Knex MP5 V2

Here is my Knex mp5. It shot 40FT using two long bands. I only had one loose rubberband on it during the pictures. It has an internal ram rod cocking system with pin guide. Its seven layers thick, it has that fancy wall coat on the other side to. It has a true trigger, and also a magazine release (I got lazy and didn't make a safety). Its really sturdy and very fun to shoot. It did have a magazine at one point in its life, but I took it apart to help start a different gun. Its very comfortable to hold. Its a little fat in places, and its stock is a little off due to the internal pin guide, but I didn't care its close enough...

How to build a remotely activated spring-loaded glass-smashing special fx rig?

Hi all, I need to design/build a special fx rig that I can use to remotely break glass doors in a cabinet for a tv show. I've looked at the glass poppers sold at fx shops but they use squibs; this is a hidden camera prank show and the victim of the gag has to believe the glass smashed because they were singing in a high-pitched voice, so I can't use the squibs (the victim will hear them go off). Also, the glass is candy glass. I am imagining something like the hammer on a gun; something that I can cock and leave set in the cabinet, then perhaps pull a string to trigger it into hitting the glass. Anyone have better ideas? Many thanks, Damian

OodAst Update 3.5 *Further updated to 3.6*

Well I still didn't feel up to making an entirely new weapon so I tried improving the oodast...again. The main concern with everyone last time was reliability so I fixed that. It's a lot more reliable. I'll spare you the rest of the details until the movie so just watch it. For those who don't want to or can't want watch the video for some reason here's what I did. I changed it to a yellow rod magazine. Tan was alright but really big compared to the rest of the pistol and it left a lot of room for reliability errors. Blue is simply too small for my tastes. This is a nice average. I changed the mag pusher a little so that an extra part extends around the guide rod and it helps keep the pin locked more securely using a "weaker" connection to keep it compact. The magazine was actually moved forward a bit. I'm not sure how much of an increase to range this gave but I guess every few inches can make a difference. The mag "tilter" is now a straight pull back mechansim instead of a push up. I find this a little more comfortable. I also made another minor mod that stills somewhat nice is that I finally made a new safety to work with the version 3 series entirely. It's pretty simple. There's a black hand and a blue cap on the trigger guard bottom facing in opposite directions (don't get in the way of your fingers at all) and when the gun is cocked you can turn the trigger guard so that the blue cap fits in between one of the gaps on the trigger. The black hand provides a fast way to turn off safety by just pushing it back from underneath the guard to the side again. It doesn't get in the way of the tilter slide so you can load the gun while it's cocked without shooting yourself in the face. Sorry no pictures yet. The video should suffice until I get home from school.

Not-quite pump action mag fed gun

Last night I came up with an idea for a (possibly?) new action for a k'nex gun. It has two pieces to pull back when you cock the gun, and you pull them back as one. When these are out of the way a shot drops out of the magazine. Then you slide the inside pull-piece back towards the gun, which pushes the shot that has dropped down into the correct place, and possibly arms the trigger. Finally you pull the trigger and the outside sliding piece+firing pin snap back to their original position, firing the gun. I would like to know: A. Is there a better (i.e, simpler or easier to use) way to do this, B. Has this been done before, and C. Ideas on how I would go about doing this, or somebody else to do something cool with the idea. The attached pictures show a rough diagram of each step, although details may be different between the pictures and above description,.

ink jet printer to cutter?

Ive got an ink jet printer that bust on me a few days ago, and ive always wonered if it would be possible to replace the ink cartrages with a cutting blade and use it as a vinyl/cardboard/anything else you can think of cutter. my school had a vinyl cutter which i used a lot, but i dont have access to that any more. the only problems i can see are things like "how can i get the blade to come off the paper between letters etc? how would it cope with changes in direction? could it be programmed to follow a line instead of the side to side action?" if this wouldnt work, anyone got any other ideas for a cocked up ink jet printer? shame to waste it. attach a laser?? lol. a really budget laser cutter. could the motors and rails be used for anything else? its got a scanner attached too, but i cant think of a use for that, other than turning it into a SAD lamp (seasonal affected disorder). i think it would be bright enough. ideas?

The other bullet is also in Gamer5's "Powerful Guns" forum topic.
