Question regarding colour

Hi everyone! So here is another confusion in my mind.  I know that colours are a result of electromagnetic radiation in the visible spectrum interacting with our eyes.  The visible spectrum consists of 7 colours, abbreviated VIBGYOR. Now my question is, what are primary colours and secondary colours? And how come mixing of two colours produce an entirely different  colour? I expected that all 7 of them would be primary. But that is not the case.  Also, for illustrating the real world scenario from which this doubt crawled into my mind, consider that i have two pieces of translucent films, one blue, and other yellow. Now initially i place the blue film in-front of a white bulb, then it filters all other colours other than blue. Now place a yellow in-front of the blue, and there, you have green. What is the working principle behind this? How come the "blue" light turned "green" after passing through the yellow film?

Projecting outside: colours?

Is there a way to get colours to be more contrasted so that they can be seen more clearly? I want to take this: https://www.instructables.com/id/PROJECTION-BOMBING/ and turn it into this: http://www.gregbernstein.tv/walmartwatch/ Also, is there a way to increase the lumens of a projector by changing the bulb or something? I have a feeling my projector isn't bright enough to project outside. I was thinking of using this: https://www.instructables.com/id/Halogen-Work-Light-Projector-Mod/ Would that be bright enough for outdoors projecting or is there another cheap alternative?

Do you see what I see?

Here's a very cool illusion I have taken from this BBC article. First notice that the two desert scenes have exactly the same colour composition. The skies are both blue-ish and the deserts are both yellow-ish. Stare at the dot between the red and green squares for 60 seconds, and then look back at the dot between the two desert scenes. The more focused you are in staring at the dot between the green and red squares the better the subsequent illusion will be. The illusion was created by neuroscientist Beau Lotto (website here, with more illusions). (Are you colour blind?  Do you see any effect from this illusion?) I have a feeling that this effect could be used in some sort of cool Instructable, but I have no idea what...

Hi! My couch needs a face lift. Does anyone know of a cheap way of changing its colour? Apart from draping it? Answered

My couch is Kermit-green. I would like to change it to something darker, like burgundy red. The only thing that occurs to me is to dye it. Is that possible? And cheap? I would be grateful for any suggestions (apart from setting fire to it, that is!) I will upload a picture to illustrate the problem. Thank you, anthill52

Replacing black ink with colour ink

Hi, I'm trying to do a uni project and I'm not having much look at the moment. What I want is for the ink in the black cartridge to be a colour ink instead of black. It did seem to work but now it's not. I flushed the cartridge with water several times to clean it out and then placed magenta ink in and the first through prints it started to print the Magenta but then stopped and how all it seems to do is leak from the cartridge and flood the base. The printer is a HP 1220c using HP 45 Cartridge which has the print head on the actual cartridge. Can anyone suggest anything? Thanks Phil

Color Changing LED Ring - Help

Hello, I've searched most of the LED Instructables section looking for something I'd like to make. I'm just looking into making something very basic. Simply put, I'm looking to build a round "coaster" type object. I'd like it to have a few coloured LED's that are in a circular shape but will fade in/out and mix colours together. Picture having this under a glass object and it's purpose is to light up the object with different colour patterns and such just for looks. If anyone could help me out with this, it would greatly be appreciated. I'm just starting to get into LED things. I can wire the LED's to all be on, but that's not what I want.

whats the best chemicals coat a match with in order to get a green, purple or blue flame?

I am going to make some matches that burn different coloures to make some money at school, and my attempt to make copper carbonate by electrolosis has failed, as it turns out only copper exposed to air during electrolsis carbonated. anyway, i need to know what will make the strongest colour flame on a match stick (probably barbeque matches not normal small ones), so that it is allmost entirely either green, purple or blue. right now i have a 1kg copper rod i found on the roud which i can use to make copper chloride, as i can get that easily, but i have heard that it lets off toxic fume so i am not sure, plus i dont know if the matches will burn hot enoguh to make the copper chloride go green.

Possibility of making temporary hair colouring?

Hello there, I've always wanted to dye my hair grey but didn't want to go through the hassle and the possible hair damage of bleaching.  I came across someone selling chalk sticks for temporary hair colouring and was wondering if a cheaper, liquid version could be made to cover all the hair instead of a small part. My initial idea was to use calcium carbonate and grey food colouring with maybe a little bit of talcum powder which will then be mixed with some water so it can be applied easier. These are the ingredients in the colouring I want to use: glycerol, propylene glycol, silicon dioxide, titanium dioxide, vegetable carbon  Is there anything here I should be concerned about? As I'm going for a grey colour I was also looking at using a small amount of activated charcoal or some other skin safe fine black powder. Is this the best way or are there better alternatives? Advice will be appreciated. Thanks for reading.

Ethernet Wiring Order

Hi, I have a cat6 ethernet cable with 8 non-twisted wires all apparently being of different solid colors. Is it OK to attach both ends to the connectors in any order as long as both ends have the same color order? Since the colors are non-standard I can't go by any convention such as T-568A or T-568B. I am using this in my home and since it will be a one-off I don't care about convention standards as long as the configuration I use will work. By the way, do I need to be concerned about the fact that they are non-twisted wires? What's the difference anyway? I would appreciate your answer. Thanks.

LED car headlights colour temperature (Australia)? Answered

I was looking to replace the headlights on my car to LED ones, but I'm kinda conscious about the legal requirements I contacted the Licensing and Vehicle centre/department/whatever to ask about the max colour temperature, but the best they gave me was what was in the pic below. Does anyone know how to convert that or something into colour temperature? I know they sell 5000K lamps at a nearby automotive shop, but they also sell a few more... questionable accessories. I really don't want to have to drag my car in and have to pay several hundreds over just a few headlights; might as well just take the ticket if I ever got one. Other than that, they should have the same brightness, throw, etc. Thanks

Why do the constituent of white colour have different wavelength?

When white light passes through a prism,it is splitted into its constituents colours due to the difference in the speed of different colours in prism.the colour which has more speed is deviated most(red)and the colour having less speed deviates least(violet).thus, white light is splitted. we know that wavelength is directly proprtional to speed. The question is why the wavelength of different colours differ from each other?and why does the wavelength of red colour is longest and of violet colour is shortest?

Mixing different colored LEDs in series-parallel arrays

I've been doing lots of research, both on other internet sites and the LED projects posted here, but can't find out how to mix colours in LED displays. My plan is to build better Christmas displays from LEDs than the rope light ones you can buy. I've found out how to drive LEDs from a power supply both in series and parallel, with a current limiting resistor. What no one seems to discuss though is driving sets of LEDs off the one power supply where they use different coloured LEDs of different voltages. If I want to wire up lots of red LEDs (2.0V drop) in series and some green LEDs (3.3V drop) in series for example, can I just wire the two sets in parallel to each other (assuming both sets of LEDs in series don't require more voltage than the power supply? Thanks!!!

How do I make a simple battery operated lighting circuit?

I'm creating a lamp for a product design project in school, and my aim is to make a portable, environmentally friendly lamp, so, in designing this lamp, I thought that it would be best to power the lights on a circuit. Can anybody show me how to make a circuit with several LED lights, where the circuit can switch between different colour LEDs every 10 minutes and the circuit has an integrated switch to turn the light on and off. preferably the circuit can run on a single AA battery, and is small, yet simple enough for a beginner to make. Thanks :)

how do I programme a colour changing LED clock?

Hi,  I would like to make a clock using RGB LEDs where the colour changes once every hour (12 colours, like an analog clock's numbers) with a 3 second fade between each change. With another set of LEDs changing every minuet, again with a 3 second fade between the colours, using 60 colours around the colour spectrum to represent the minuets.  This has to be able to work without wifi or usb, I want to be able to set the time on it with an hour button and a minuet button, and for it to work off mains voltage with one plug.  Any ideas?

Question regarding Light

Hi guys! I had this strange question in my mind from a long time, but i have to yet get a satisfactory answer: What is the difference between a naturally emitted colour and a colour which is generated by covering the light source with a translucent cover of a particular colour? For example: I have a Blue LED whose body/case is actually transparent but on supplying power emits the colour blue naturally. On the other hand, i have a LED which emits a white colour on powering up. Suppose i put some kind of blue translucent film on it, or a translucent paint. I will still get a blue-colour. What are the differences of colour emitted in these two cases?
