Question regarding colour

Hi everyone! So here is another confusion in my mind.  I know that colours are a result of electromagnetic radiation in the visible spectrum interacting with our eyes.  The visible spectrum consists of 7 colours, abbreviated VIBGYOR. Now my question is, what are primary colours and secondary colours? And how come mixing of two colours produce an entirely different  colour? I expected that all 7 of them would be primary. But that is not the case.  Also, for illustrating the real world scenario from which this doubt crawled into my mind, consider that i have two pieces of translucent films, one blue, and other yellow. Now initially i place the blue film in-front of a white bulb, then it filters all other colours other than blue. Now place a yellow in-front of the blue, and there, you have green. What is the working principle behind this? How come the "blue" light turned "green" after passing through the yellow film?

Projecting outside: colours?

Is there a way to get colours to be more contrasted so that they can be seen more clearly? I want to take this: https://www.instructables.com/id/PROJECTION-BOMBING/ and turn it into this: http://www.gregbernstein.tv/walmartwatch/ Also, is there a way to increase the lumens of a projector by changing the bulb or something? I have a feeling my projector isn't bright enough to project outside. I was thinking of using this: https://www.instructables.com/id/Halogen-Work-Light-Projector-Mod/ Would that be bright enough for outdoors projecting or is there another cheap alternative?

Possibility of making temporary hair colouring?

Hello there, I've always wanted to dye my hair grey but didn't want to go through the hassle and the possible hair damage of bleaching.  I came across someone selling chalk sticks for temporary hair colouring and was wondering if a cheaper, liquid version could be made to cover all the hair instead of a small part. My initial idea was to use calcium carbonate and grey food colouring with maybe a little bit of talcum powder which will then be mixed with some water so it can be applied easier. These are the ingredients in the colouring I want to use: glycerol, propylene glycol, silicon dioxide, titanium dioxide, vegetable carbon  Is there anything here I should be concerned about? As I'm going for a grey colour I was also looking at using a small amount of activated charcoal or some other skin safe fine black powder. Is this the best way or are there better alternatives? Advice will be appreciated. Thanks for reading.

Replacing black ink with colour ink

Hi, I'm trying to do a uni project and I'm not having much look at the moment. What I want is for the ink in the black cartridge to be a colour ink instead of black. It did seem to work but now it's not. I flushed the cartridge with water several times to clean it out and then placed magenta ink in and the first through prints it started to print the Magenta but then stopped and how all it seems to do is leak from the cartridge and flood the base. The printer is a HP 1220c using HP 45 Cartridge which has the print head on the actual cartridge. Can anyone suggest anything? Thanks Phil

Would I be correct in believing that these are some kind of indicator as to the input of each individual member & that the colour & stats will alter as the member becomes more involved such as publishing ibbles & leaving ratings?

LED car headlights colour temperature (Australia)? Answered

I was looking to replace the headlights on my car to LED ones, but I'm kinda conscious about the legal requirements I contacted the Licensing and Vehicle centre/department/whatever to ask about the max colour temperature, but the best they gave me was what was in the pic below. Does anyone know how to convert that or something into colour temperature? I know they sell 5000K lamps at a nearby automotive shop, but they also sell a few more... questionable accessories. I really don't want to have to drag my car in and have to pay several hundreds over just a few headlights; might as well just take the ticket if I ever got one. Other than that, they should have the same brightness, throw, etc. Thanks

Why do the constituent of white colour have different wavelength?

When white light passes through a prism,it is splitted into its constituents colours due to the difference in the speed of different colours in prism.the colour which has more speed is deviated most(red)and the colour having less speed deviates least(violet).thus, white light is splitted. we know that wavelength is directly proprtional to speed. The question is why the wavelength of different colours differ from each other?and why does the wavelength of red colour is longest and of violet colour is shortest?

how do I programme a colour changing LED clock?

Hi,  I would like to make a clock using RGB LEDs where the colour changes once every hour (12 colours, like an analog clock's numbers) with a 3 second fade between each change. With another set of LEDs changing every minuet, again with a 3 second fade between the colours, using 60 colours around the colour spectrum to represent the minuets.  This has to be able to work without wifi or usb, I want to be able to set the time on it with an hour button and a minuet button, and for it to work off mains voltage with one plug.  Any ideas?

Question regarding Light

Hi guys! I had this strange question in my mind from a long time, but i have to yet get a satisfactory answer: What is the difference between a naturally emitted colour and a colour which is generated by covering the light source with a translucent cover of a particular colour? For example: I have a Blue LED whose body/case is actually transparent but on supplying power emits the colour blue naturally. On the other hand, i have a LED which emits a white colour on powering up. Suppose i put some kind of blue translucent film on it, or a translucent paint. I will still get a blue-colour. What are the differences of colour emitted in these two cases?

How can I colour White Gloss paint?

I am about to start painting tyres for a school gardening project! I've researched Diy sites that tell me it's best to use Gloss paint as it lasts for two year before needing repainting. The problem I have is I have lots of white paint donated from parents but I don't what just white. I've been to a DIY store and they have informed me that Dulux now add acrylic to their gloss paint to colour it? Has anyone tried to colour Gloss paint themselves and what sort of acrylic paint did you use? Obviously I am trying to keep costs down as we have 56 small tyres to paint. Please if anyone has any experience in doing this please contact me or have other methods. I've considered Food colour? Thank you

I'm currently doing a project involving LEDs and want to be able to get the colour of them to match into my colour pallette, which is quite metallic and pastel, so I was wondering if there is any way of taking white LEDs and then changing the colour. Piezo triggered LED Strip with multiple static and flashing colour? Answered

Hi There are already a few threads and topics on this site explaining how to hook up a piezo triggered light strip, however I'm looking to build a custom drum kit with particular lighting system and i can't find the info I need to build it.  Inside the drums I want a constant, static colour of my choice on the led strip (e.g. blue) and then the piezo trigger triggers that LED strip to to different colour (e.g. red) for a quick flash and then back to blue. I would also like to have control over which colour combinations I use, so if i want yellow drums with green flashes, i would hopefully be able change that with a remote.  Is there a circuit or a mod of an existing circuit that will handle my needs?  Cheers,  Owen

So I'm trying to make a seven colored laser Spirograph, with lens' (that turn the beam into a crosshair for example) and I can't for the life of me work out how to make it work properly. I can design it so that I either have the lens or the Spirograph, but I cannot make it so that the Spirograph fits through the barrel of the lens thread. I think my best option might be to have two holes in the front of the device or use concave mirrors, what do you guys think?

Good TINY colour lcd/screen for RPI? +What LCD is this?

(My LCD in comments) In need of a  tiny screen for my raspberry pi, the best one I have seen is 1.44"  https://www.adafruit.com/products/2088 But I am actually looking for something smaller and as high quality as possible while keeping my budget under the £25 mark. Optimum size would be 15 by 25mm but obviously that is impossibly as this for the main display. To be used as a computer right next to your eye; (I am using focusing lenses) (Raspberry pi) Brilliant is around 15 by 25 Good is 20 by 35 Kinda bad is 3.5 by 3.5 Preferably detached from board (wires-  unlikely) and rectangular ratio. Must be Raspberry Pi Compatible. UK please! You guys here, are incredible that you can answer me and my persistent waffling and stupid questions for free, so thanks so much. Regards Rowan
