I make the rwilsford07 boost converter, but it doesnt work. The mosfet start heating and only gives 2v. I check the oscilator and is working perfectly, I try diferent things butit doesnt work. Before I make 120v, but I dont know how it stop working, I nad rebuild the circuit like three times but nothing happens. Can you help know why is this happen?

Recently I bought a Blender imported from US(to India) which runs on 120V 60Hz. I need a converter which Converts 240V 50Hz to 120V 60Hz. I got an idea of using a rectifier-inverter circuit such that by varying the gate signal can accomplish the aim. Is this idea a possible one?

Well, I've posted this in numerous places and no one seems to have a clue. Myself being electronically illiterate, still, with all the technology out there, you can't tell me this can't be done. I live off-grid. We all know how inefficient the inverter is. It's a huge drain on my battery bank, won't function when they get below a certain voltage, yet all my peripherals that operate directly from the battery bank, operate fine. That being said, I have been trying to come as close as possible to eliminating the inverters and I have two peripherals left: 1) cordless telephone and 2) modem The problem is that they run from that pesky wall charger/converter from 120VAC to 6.5 and 9VAC respectively. Now, notice these units run on LOW VOLTAGE AC, not DC. That is, they are powered by the AC. My guess is that inside each unit, there sits a rectifier converting it right back into DC. In fact, for the phone, I see no other way because it charges a NiCad battery. So.... does anyone have an inkling as to an efficient way to convert 12VDCD to low voltage AC. Preferably variable, but not absolutely necessary. There is nothing on the market that I have found. So if you're looking for something to have to break into the electronics market with, here ya go. I'll bet there are hundreds of thousands 'off-gridders' who would want this technology.

I have an old TV that I want to convert so that it's able to be used as a monitor for my camcorder. The TV however only has an antennae and screws on the back for a circular UHF antenna. It's an old RCA Model EJR 291S black and white tv. If anyone has any ideas let me know.

I've been looking around and it seems like most catalytic converters have palladium in them. I think palladium is mostly inert but palladium salts are highly toxic. I would like to open up a catalytic converter and use the substrate to make a thermoacoustic engine stack. So do you know if it would be poisonous to me to open a catalytic converter? Thanks!

Anyone have info on converting a bike to a trike? My disabled son has balance issues but wants to ride with the family, however we can't afford a new adult tricycle or one of the expensive conversion kits. He's much too large for training wheels to work. I'm hoping to find a way to convert an old bike with minimal expense and no welding.

Hi ppl, for electronics A level coursework i am hoping to build a DC to Dc converter to use to power high power leds. As far as i understand it will convert DC to AC, use PWM to alter the current out, and then convert this back to DC giving a constant current out. These are available in devices (known as buckpucks) but for my coursework i hope to build a similar thing on Breadboard. This is really a question for the engineers and if they could give me some advice on anything to do with this it would be great! Thanks ppl

I have a single phase 3.5 hp AC motor, I would like to convert to a 12 volt DC.I'm no electrical expert but I think it can be done.From watching youtube vids and asking Mr. GoogleI understand a DC motor runs slower say 1750 rpm,where my AC motor spins at 3,450 rpm.I also understand a DC motor has brushes.Besides the speed being different, and changing the cord out,is there any reason WHY this couldn't be done?Any potential drawbacks?Any help or knowledgeable advice would be much appreciated.Thanks guys,skip

Hello, It Is Now Summer where I live, and it is getting VERY hot. I Want to put in an Air Conditioner, but whenever I do, My electric bill goes through the roof! I have an old car part (Cannot remember what it is called, its the part that uses the turning engine to charge the battery or something like that... I Cant remember) and I would like to use that (made into a mini wind turbine) to charge my spare car battery, and use a DC to AC Power Converter to power the air conditioner... I Have an DC - AC converter, but its not powerful enough... I Need To Build One That Can Power The Air conditioner.... Soon... Its Starting To Get REALLY hot... Thanks...

Hello guys of instructables! I'm writing on this forum, because I think you the only guys that can help me! My situation: I'm from Europe (Nordic part), and our voltage/hertz is 230v 50hz - I think. What I'm trying to do is using american clippers here in my country, but what I've experienced is that it really going to work because the magnetic motor in the hair clipper is going to make alot of noise and overheat, even tho if you used a stepdown converter (230v to 110v) My request: But yesterday i saw a guy on youtube which said that he had made a revolutionary stepdown converter, that would solve the problem and make american clippers anywhere in Europe - without overheating and noise. Hello, I want to connect a portable solar powered rechargeable to 2 DC fans of 12v to cool my car. 1. I have 2 options of portable solar powered: (A) 1500mAh, outputs: 5.5V / 800mA (B) 2000mAh, outputs: 5V 500mA which one is preffered to connect to those PC fans? 2. most of the PC fans are working at 12v. I don't quite sure if I'll build simple 5v to 12v regulator it will works and produce enough airflow. Thanks.

For what I read on the subject it's a kind of catalytic pyrolysis (whatever it means for such a non scientist as myself...). So what do those of us with old surround sound receivers with no HDMI inputs that we either don't want to part with because in every other way they are just awesome pieces of equipment or we simply can't afford to replace them do? It seems that no one sells an affordable, quality HDMI to RCA converter that can easily go between modern components like Blu-ray players and older receivers. So what can we pirate one from and what would be the best way to do it? Ideally it would split out all the surround channels or convert to a single digital RCA cable. I'm more concerned about sound, because TVs wear out and get replaced faster than receivers, so odds are we have an HDMI ready TV. I don't object to video as part of the project, it just isn't necessary (for me).

How does a Floppy Disk Converter work? Heres my problem. I have recently bought a laptop which has Windows Vista. I have an old desktop computer with Windows 98SE. I have no floppy disk drive on the laptop. I want to save the material on the floppy disks onto a USB memory stick. I bought a USB that works for Windows 98SE only to find that you need to download drivers for it from the Internet before it will work. So I plugged my Broadband connection (which is from Vodafone) into the desktop computer to get an Internet connection only to find that the Internet is too new a version for Windows 98SE to read so therefore I cant download the drivers. Also I thought I could save to CD and then put the CD into the laptop to save them to the hard disk but the desktop only has a CD-ROM whereas the laptop has CD-RW. So that wont work either. So I was wondering if a Floppy Disk Converter would be the answer to my problem. Like do you just insert a floppy and a USB into the Floppy Disk Converter and transfer the files. Do you need to connect it to a computer. Sorry for rambling on but I have so many questions about it and I really want to know before I go out and buy one only to find that it is also useless to me. Hi everybody ! I'm currently working on a speaker project, and I want it to be powered by 4x 18650 3400mAh 3.7V batteries in parallel, but when they are recharged (with a separated 18650 wall charger), I want to be able to power my speaker from a wall power supply. The idea is to get the 5v power supply voltage down to something between 3.7v and 4.2v, in order to mimic the battery voltage. I already chose this one which is a 10amp-capable power supply in order to be sure to always give the speaker enough current (speaker current consumption is between 0,55 at medium volume and 3 amps a maximum volume). I first thought that i would use this board to convert 5v to 3,7v but it's only able to output 1.25 amps max so I need to figure out a way to convert 5v to 3.7-4.2v without loosing a lot of current. I've heard of low dropout regulator (LDO) but I cannot find one capable of delivering 4amps or more... Any help is appreciated ! Mahot

Ok this is my first post on this site so forgive me if i sound stupid...i like to tinker with things so just to tell a little about things i have done...completely rebuilt a pc..wired up an adapter for an old xbox to work on pc...the easier things....fixing frayed speaker wire....rebuilt/and upgraded a zune 30gb to zune 60gb the usual stuff...my most proud is overclocking my amd 64x2 4000+ to 2.9Ghz.....everyone said it couldnt be done...........anyways on to my question.......i want to know what all i will need to convert Dc to Ac power for a set of old desktop speakers i found in my closet.......i have an idea of what i want to be able to do.......put them in a backpack and make it portable.....currently i have two old 7.2v 1200mah Rc car batteries that i would like to use to power it.....and i also have a charger for them...it can charge and discharge...its old but works....so now my next step is what else am i going to need to complete this project...i dont know a whole lot about electricity but know enough to follow directions...if someone has already done this or knows how to and could walk me through what i need to do i would greatly appreciate it....

To Linuxism. Please, hold your applause. ;-) A handful of you may know that I've been fumbling with Linux since early in this year, tried every distro known to man (and then some) and didn't get heads or tails of it. Well, it finally clicked. I don't know how and I don't know why, but it did. I'm running Ubuntu 8.04 Hardy Heron and I plan on updating to 8.10 when it comes out on the 30th. Out of all the distros I've found, Ubuntu's the easiest, and Hardy Heron is better than any earlier version I've tried. I customized it to look how I want, and installed some of my favorite programs. It runs off of my 2gb flash drive at lightning speed, but when I upgrade to 8.10 I think I'll install it on a 4gb SDHC card. Of course, this doesn't mean that I'm a Linux leet h@x0r or anything. Linux is a journey of knowledge, and I think I've finally got off on a good start.

Hello all, I'm new to the forum but I love the site and have been inspired by it for a while now. So, I'm working on a project to do GMRS radio communications between my wife and I between our motorcycles. The radio and headset part are pretty well taken care of but the radios don't natively accept vehicle power - only batteries. This is a bit of a bummer if you're on the road for a couple of days or more so I want to tie them into the existing 12 volt power on the bike. The radios have no plug for this but I'm assuming if I can knock the bike power down to the 6 volts normally delivered by the 4-AA batteries, I should be able to tie that in to the terminals in the radio that normally take the battery power. So, what is my best option? Hack a cellphone charger? Build from scratch? Size is a factor as it will be stored in the tiny glovebox in the tail of the bike. Any thoughts or links to appropriate stuff would be helpful! Thanks very much. -Ryan

Hi! I'm having a few TEG-elements (TEP-1264-1.5) that I want to put best use of and plug them in to a circuit in one end and get a 5V USB in the other end! They are acting somewhat similar to solar panel and a matched load (in this case 2.0 - 2.8 Ω for each) is needed for optimal performance. They will provide during matched load 2.5-4V and 0.5-1.5A and I'm planning on putting two of them in series. I have been looking at a MPPT design, but those seem to be based on the fact that they are charging a 12V battery that can accept a wide range of input voltages and therefore it's possible to have a DC/DC converter that just adjusts the conversion. In my case I wan't exactly 5V but I can accept various currents 300mA - 1000mA, so if I know my Ohms law right I should be able to get a load resistance of ~1 - 16 Ω which is quite far out of range. Is there any way to design a circuit that has a matched load of 2.0-2.8Ω (or will it be twice if they are in series?) while still being able to give a constant output of 5V?

I tried this circuit using a 3.7v supply and instead of a 12v Zener I used a 5v Zener. I also used a 22uH inductor. I get 5v no load but when I add a load the voltage drops a bit and the current is 50ma max. Why is this not working and what could I change to make it work? My motorhome has a115v ac to 12v dc with a split transformer, the 2 outer leads went to press in diodes and the middle lead went to neg or pos.(cant remember witch) it is 40amp converter. one of the diodes was bad and i was only getting 6 volts out so i replaced them both with 40 amp 600 volt ZENER diodes. Are the zener diodes the wrong type to use, all seemed good except my neg and pos polarity were reversed coming out of the power converter, I reversed the terminals at the hook up so polarity would be correct. Could this discharge my battery when its not connected to 115v. Thank you, Duncan

Am trying to put a boat radio on my patio, plugging into house current. The radio uses a 10amp fuse. All $5 converters I find on the net are for cell phone chargers and the like. I don't think they have the power I need. Have seen something about using an old PC power supply, but I'm not sure it will stand up to the weather, even though it will be in a box, and I don't know how to determine which outputs would be 12 volts. Anything I have found is WAY over budget...I'm trying to find something for less than $25. Am I on fools errand? Are there options I don't know I have? Any help is most welcome! ***REVISION*** I should qualify....the radio is actually an AM/FM CD radio, not VHF or Ham. Sorry for the confusion.

I intend to make a devise where it would have an impute of 120v ac at 60Hz and have a output of 120v ac at a frequency between 10 and 60 Hz and could be changed with a variable resister in fine increments. this also needs to be able to handle 10 amps. any ideas, I would appreciate all help

Does anyone know how to convert 9vdc power to 12v dc power? ive looked all over the internet and nobody seems to have any schematics for anything like it. It needs to be about one or two square inches.
