I'm really interested in using fiberglass for the body of rc helicopter I'm designing but I've never used fiberglass before and I'm wary about the cost of this. Could anyone with experience in fiberglass help me figure out how much it may cost me?

We drive a Jetta Diesel. TDI. Fuel here in Canada is now over \$5.00 a gal. and although we get 50 + miles per gal. we are wondering what cooking oil we can directly pour into the fuel tank. We have heard that someone in England is doing it, as gas over there is \$12. + a gal. Has anyone had any experience. Many years ago the VW company said that if not able to get diesel, get some peanut oil. Any thoughts?

### Nuclear power costing

I am doing the cost of electricity for a nuclear power plant and was wonder if this costing equation seems right:  Take a plant at the cost of \$ 7 billion and produces 1100 MW of power 7000000000/1100/1000= \$ 6363.63 per kW Normally the life cycle is 40 years and a weighted average cost of capital is 14.50% So 6363.63 kWh * .1450 = 922.72 The typical capacity factor ranges from 75% to 85% so the average will be taken 80% This capacity factor is then multiplied by the number of hours in a year which is 8760 0.80 * 8760= 7008 kWh a year the plant is running So: 922.72/ 7008 = 0.132 which is 13.2 cents per kWh. Operation and maintenance costs with fuel is estimated at 1.5 cent per kWh Property taxes is at around \$0.02 cent/kWh Fuel cycle is at around \$0.03 cent/ kWh Waste cost and the decommissioning costs together are 0.02 cents/ kWh So the total cost stands at around 21.7 or 22 cents per kWh ive done another equation out for 3rd generation reactors that comes out at a lower cost. does this seem right? i am not sure how to work out the weighted average capital cost % (that was a figure i took from a site) i will be grateful for any reply

### Reduce Electricity Cost?

Does the electricity meter count power used if I only used the live wire and channeled it to an independent earth pit? In other words, I do not complete the cycle with the grid? Power comes in through the live, through meter then to earth?

Does anybody know if there is a small, personal CNC in the range of under \$1000? I do not feel I am ready to make my own, though I know there are plenty of 'ibles about them that I'm sure are good. I am looking to purchase a CNC, software, cabling, bits and all. Is there even such one as cheap as this? if so, where would I find one?

### Reduce Power Costs?

I need to cut the cost of power I consume in my house so I came up with a simple project which I "think" might help but need more assistance. I put together two motors joined with gears so that as one runs, it spins the other. The driving motor is powered by 3v and the other 9v. When I start the 3V motor, it spins and the 9v motor outputs 7v. What I intend to do is run the 3v from a battery, spin the 9v to produce 7v -9v, save that power to the same battery running the 3v and also use the same saved power to run something else. The above is on small scale. I need to do this on a larger scale later on where I can save 12v and use an inverter to produce 220v. Any advice on how to make the above feasible is welcome

### Adding a field to mention cost?

I think I have read many instructable pages and don't see that users mention the cost of the project. They do mention what materials and spares were used and where to procure them from, but I think that the uploading user should be requested to mention the  cost under the instructable, so that a new reader gets an idea of approximately how much money it is going to cost him apart from the time he has to put in. A new field at the end of the instructable whereby the users may enter cost of each item listed or the total cost of all the items in the project. This will greatly enhance the instructable pages. Thanks.

### Determining the cost of building a prototype?

Hi there, I am inexperienced in engineering and building things in general, but I am trying to start a tech company anyway. I am currently in the process of determining the budget cost of building a prototype for various designs of ideas. So I am wondering if you can tell me how much commonly used tools and materials of a DIY mechanical/electrical engineering project might cost. If you don't know because estimates can vary, then tell me from your personal experience how much your list of tools and materials costed you on various projects that you've done. Thank you!

### Low cost PCB service !

Just had a flyer through from these guys http://ragworm.eu/ VERY low cost PCB making - around 6 USD/sq inch for double sided plated holes -  and they have very liberal design rules, so they'll cut boards to weird shapes too Looks like free UK shipping, I don't see what they are saying about international orders.  Steve

### Is Pro Membership worth the cost?

I purchase one membership to a technical or DIY site each year. I like instructables and i have made several things I have seen on here. I would just like the input of others before I decide. Thanks Pat

### Provide cost estimate at the start of classes?

I love the new classes feature here at Instructables, and have the ambition to complete as many of them as possible. I do have some feedback for them, however, and that is that the introduction to the class should include a rough estimate of how much it's going to cost to buy the various bits needed to complete the class. I've just finished the Arduino class and loved the fact that a lot of the lessons leading up to the final project contributed to the final build, and as such helped keep the costs of buying the materials (relatively) low. The same can't be said for the Electronics class, however, which has different projects to build for each lesson and is working out rather expensive as a result. Now please understand, I'm not complaining about the fact you have to build a project for each lesson. If anything I'm rather enjoying it. But a little heads up of what roughly how much the class is going to end up costing would be a welcome addition. I can see this consisting of two different sums: - the cost of equipment which is needed, but once you have it, you have it for keeps. - and the cost of any materials which will be consumed by the project. I'm keen on moving onto another class just as soon as I complete the Electronics one, but would like to be able to work out which one I should go for, taking things like price into account, before I get started - rather than maybe having to abandon the class because I suddenly find I can 't afford some of the equipment or materials I'll need for it. Thank you

### LOW COST BATTERY for CELL phone

My old LG flip phone still has lots o' pics, contact info, etc. I don't wanna throw it out, but the battery no longer holds a charge. I'd like to recycle the old battery, but when plugged into a charger with no batt, the phone  will not turn on.   Why can't I power it up on the wal-wart transformer alone?  Do I really need to spend \$40 on a battery just to access old pics n stuff? Is there some proprietary circuit in there that "says" to the phone "I'm here"  other than just plain old voltage? Although the old battery seems to work just well enough to access data as long as it's plugged in, I'd like to get rid of said battery in case it eventually leaks.

### Minimum cost CNC/3D printer?

I am looking to make a 3D printer and I need a few questions answered.  A) How can I convert a sketchup or solidworks model to G-code B) how can I feed that to an arduino uno line-by-line C) how powerful does a laser have to be (when well focused) to burn wood or paper/thin plastic (black paper, of course)? Not cut the wood, just make a visable surface darkening, but cut the paper/plastic? D) what is the simplest method to make a miniature extruder? my printer will have very little torque and size, not enough for the glue gun one, not my arduino enough IO outputs for a stepper. ### College (sigh)

Alright, so I know that I'm just 14, but hey! I don't think it's too early to think about college.Based on what I enjoy doing, I figure that my best bet would be to go into mechanical engineering. I thought about electrical and chemical engineering, but I am more of a hands-on kind of guy.Thing is, I want to go to a college that is in the SEC (Southeastern Conference). One, because I'd rather stay down South, and two, I'd like to stay fairly close to my family (i.e., not up North/out West).UA (Alabama) is the only one that offers courses in mechanical engineering. I'm not sure about other colleges, but because I am out-of-state, my education costs nearly \$11,000 more than a resident of the state.Geez! I don't come from a rich family, so that seems a bit, extravagant. Now, I have and and have always had straight A's. I'm in the "advanced" classes, blah, blah, I participate in the Academic Bowl, blah, blah, ok. I'm fairly educated, so I'm sure a scholarship will come my way.In Georgia, we have the HOPE Scholarship, which will help fund students with high grades if they go to a Georgia college.I have yet to find a college in Georgia that offers courses in mechanical engineering. Now, Georgia Tech may have one, but I cannot go there, as they are a fierce rival of UGA.After writing all of this, I don't actually remember my purpose of posting this here, but will continue.Oh, that's right: Does anyone know of some scholarships that would fund out-of-state students?Any other advice, of any kind, would be appreciated.Didn't know picking a college would be this hard.P.S. What exactly is your job called, Eric? (or any of the iBles staff)

### Low Cost Low Tech Ozone Bubbler

Clean water is becoming scarce and chlorine is a dangerous substance to be hauling around in the Third World. The dirty secret in water processing is that ozone works just as well as chlorine. How about coming up with a small handheld device which could sanitize small amounts of water using the local atmoshere by turning o2 into o3.   I'm thinking aquarium pump to begin with.
