St. Anthony's (The T Cross)

Hi, Does anyone know what kind of joint was used in making of a St. Anthony's  (The T Cross) that the Romans traditionally used for crucifixion. I've looked and looked and I just cant find it. I can guess but I don't want to guess. I want to make one that will be about a foot tall for a friend.  I hope you can help. Thank you

I have to use some form of 3D to construct(Example: Puffy pains, corn, beads, wood, yarn, toothpicks, cotton, felt, beans, etc.) I can not use action figures or dolls to construct the people on the station. I am not sure where to begin or how make it look real without the use of dolls of figures.

Plastiki, the boat made with 12,500 plastic bottles, has successfully sailed across the Pacific Ocean. The journey started in San Francisco and has ended in Sydney after 130 days and 8,000 miles on the water. The goal was to raise awareness about the problem of plastics in the oceans, such as the Pacific Garbage Patch. Congratulations to David de Rothschild and the rest of the crew. Cross-braces for wooden shelves

I want to make cross-braces for wooden shelves I built  using 1x4 stanchions, 1x12 shelves, threaded rod between the stanchions to hold the shelves up and the whole thing together, from an Instructables project. Ikea sells the perfect thing http://ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/87749600/  except it's too short and there's no Ikea in town; I mention it for the example it provides.  These http://www.storeroomshelves.com/storeroom_shelves_bracing/storeroom_shelves_bracing.htm look good too, and are cheap, but are 700 miles away. They don't need to be strong: I anchor the stanchions to the wall; I need them to hold the shelves up when I mantle and dismantle them.  They do need to be thin because the shelves are against the wall.

Cross Marketing Idea for Instructables

I was checking out the instructable for the coffee bag wallet and had a great idea. You know how grocery stores have recipe cards seeded around the store? I think  Instructables should hook up with Target stores and make recipe cards of  recycling crafts,  placed in front of the product areas. In the past I have seen Target run a recipe card campaign on their own, versus relying on product manufacturers to place the cards and i know they are a perfect fit for the demographic of both this website and their market. Imagine how many altoids tins, coffee bags they could move!!  Another idea - Ikea! - How many times are those lack tables used in projects? Tons! for Ikea, an instore "re-craft show" would be super cool! Did anyone ever see all the marketing that Gallo wines put into bottle reuse - or their booth at Makerfaire? Made me go out an buy a bottle... It's all win-win!

Van Helsing Crossbow

I just finished watching van helsing for the umpteenth time and the crossbow that carl gives him is one of the only cool things in the movie, apparantly its steam driven works like a machine gun and uses magazines of crossbow bolts. So my question is, is it possible to make something of the sort using technology from that time? Unfortuately I havent had any ideas on its useage or working as yet.

Huge working crossbow!

In art class in school the other day, I took a bunch of random things - this metal thing, some yard sticks, a ruler, fishing line, a plastic thing, and this wooden bit, and made a giant working cross bow. The trigger system consists of two chip clips. With a bad piece of fishing line, the rnage is 40 feet.

Track, Field, and Cross Country experiences

Hello everybody! This is knexsniper1 with a brand new forum for everyone to share their experiences! This time it's about athletics; cross country, track and field to be exact! In this forum, I would like everyone to share their experiences while competing, or just for fun; about the mentioned topics. you may share your fastest times in the 100 meter, farthest long jump, tallest high jump, but these are only some of the things that you can share. the choice is up to you! You can also use this forum for tips on competing, or you can share your ideas on how to compete better. Those of you who compete in these sports will have their name displayed here, and stats about them, such as their fastest times etc. Remember! I want this forum to be as "clean" and appropriate as possible, so don't be calling anyone a loser just because they can not run as fast as you, or jump as far as you, or anything! Just to start this forum off, I will be the first one to post my experiences on this! You may share anything you wish! some of my goals include competing national, and then moving on to international, beating the world record for high jump, and beating bolt at 100 meter! Have fun! knexsniper1: - 1 mile run: 5:27 - 100 meter: 10.62 Kiteman: -did an eight minute mile cross-country. That's a thirteen mile cross-country half marathon in less than an hour and three quarters. Smokedasphalt: -timings and distances: 100meters : 10.8s 200m : 22.1s Long jump : 7.08 meters. Triple jump : 13.76 meters. High jump : 1.80meters. Other achievements : Best athlete of the under-19 category of Pune city. Help making Hearing aid

Hello! I need a bit of help for a project I am undertaking to make.My is to make such a device which detects the user whether a car or any other vehicle is approaching or not. The project is dedicated for the people who are deaf and cannot cross roads safely. What I think a solution could be is to make such a sensor which detects the horn of a car which further activates a vibrating motor in the pocket of the user. The vibratng motor is not at all an issue but the sensor being the problem. If anyone can please help either by giving your own solution or helping me in what I propose to do. Please help as this is not anything personal but a social cause. Hope to get an answer. Pranjal

When and how to install cross-braces on a shelving unit?

Hi! I purchased an "industrial" shelving system that I will soon install in my home. Each unit will be separate and measures 7 feet high, 4 feet wide and 2 feet deep. Each will have 5 shelves that can hold 600 pounds each. They can be bolted or clipped, but I prefer to use the clips (unless instructed otherwise by a guru). I'm not going to put anything much heavier than books on them. I was assured by the seller that the units did not need bracings, but everyone else tells me otherwise. So what's YOUR take, fellow instructables member? How can you tell if a shelving system needs braces? If so, where do you put them? At the back back or on the sides? Full length (7' x 4') or any size but in the middle of the posts? Thank you very much!!

How to convert a standard video monitor to a pulse-cross monitor?

For video diagnostics, a wave-form monitor and a pulse-cross monitor are highly useful tools. Is there a simple way to convert a standard video monitor into a pulse-cross (sometimes called a cross-pulse) monitor? I.e., feed the signal into a box and the box feeds into a standard video monitor and you can see the normally invisible image corners and invisible vertical interval of the video. I think this can be a simple electronics diagram. Thanks for any help!

Decimator Crossbow (v7)

Well I finally got some more pieces, more still coming; this enabled me to build something bigger =dThis crossbow(more like cannon, now) has the following specs:Ammo: 1 Standard arrow, which needs to be ductaped other wise torn to shreds.Weight: 4,5 kilo's (9,92 pounds)Range: Not tested outside, will beat the Reaper and the Blockhead for sure.Rubberbands: 32, 8 strings of 4 ( these may still be increased as it shows no bending yet.)Power: Just look at 2nd picture....should explain a lot.Trigger: Same as on the Blockhead, some big improvements on it though.(Surprised about how power much it can take...)Sturdiness: Seems close to unbreakable lol...Without realizing..I also made a very good scope on it o.oI had a purple+blue 3d connector as arrow tip and when I fired on my cardboard box, it made a huge tear...and my ears were ringing like from an explosion O.o'Well this monster has bad points:Need a long/strong left arm if you are right-handed, because this thing is heavy as hell.Cannot fire without trigger.Every arrow needs ductape otherwise connector gets torn off. Also I gonna try and say...:I think this may very well be the most powerful ranged k'nex weapon on this site at the moment.

How should i stain and finish a cross section of wood? Answered

Hey, So I've shaped and sanded a cross section of an ash tree. The wood has been sanded to a smooth finish but that's usually as far as i take my wood working. I want to use this to cover a base of an old desk lamp that lost its original base over time. I want to use a dark stain and a gloss finish but I'm unsure as to what type of products should be used and how the process of finishing should go. Any suggestions?

Where can I buy an "antenna pole cross bracket"? Answered

I am working on incorporating the bike trailer hitch from moaibob into a project of my own. Unfortunately, I have not been able to find one critical component, the "antenna pole cross bracket" (at left in the image below). I've searched Google, Google Images, Amazon, Radio Shack, my local Ace Hardware... Are there any hams out there who might know what this thing is called in the U.S., and where I might buy it? Alternatively, if you can suggest a different way to attach the caster to a bicycle seat post (see the full I'ble), that would be equally useful :-).

Can someone please help me identify this old relic?

I found this old relic while metal detecting near an old 1800's ghost town.  It is 8" in length.  You'll notice that one end has 2 parts that look like a "t" or a cross.  One of these "crosses" has the ability to swivel back and forth about 180 degrees.  The other "cross" is stationary and doesn't move or swivel at all.  If anyone knows what this could be, I'd appreciate the feedback. Thanks.
