Daft Punk Led

Ok so i've just thought about this, the new tron movie will feature the new daft punk helmet which actually seem easier. And that would be the newer thing that would be on mind in my opinion. So the Daft Punk helmet i wish to make is the one on the left. They help i am asking for is the required LED information. Guy-Manuel helmet with the 6x24 bright white LEDs. Thats all im looking for to do now , the Thomas one of the left im going to help my friend do, but i would like to be able to figure the Guy-Manuel one first .I just need to know where to look to figure out where to start on the LED electrical lightning part. So any assistance is need at this point. I would like to hear all opinions.

Daft Punk helmet from baseball helmet

Hi everyone! So I read and reread many threads and have a few questions about a building a Daft Punk helmet for hallowe'en. Now I know all of you are probably saying "pfffft not another one" But mine will be different and you will see once it is done. It is more of a Daft Punk Inspired helmet. Anyways, the helmet will be Thomas's helmet which will be started from a low profile rawlings baseball helmet. But will have a few changes to it from the original ones. My question is: After applying the bondo onto the helmet, to strengthen the inside, do I use bondo again? spray foam? or nothing since the baseball helmet is basically still there. Thanks! And I will post photos of progress. Antoine

How to Construct a GUY Daft Punk Helmet?

Hey guys, I was wondering how you would build a GUY Daft Punk helmet out of a motorcycle helmet. I have purchased a really nice motorcycle helmet for $30 and I started last night to make an outline of the golden frame that surrounds the helmet. I was planning on making this out of cardboard, and then after measuring it to make sure it fits the helmet precisely, covering it with Bondo. Once that was done, I was going to construct the plastic visor, which is where the trouble comes in. Does anyone have any suggestions on how that visor can be made? I have no idea how to do vacuum form, which is unfortunate. Any answers would be appreciated. Thank you.

DIY Daft Punk helmet is awesome

Harrison Krix has made the best DIY version of the Daft Punk helmets, this is the Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo helmet, that I've seen so far. He made it over the course of 17 months and while that's quite a long time the results are pretty stellar. Check out the video with several hundred photos of the build process and click the link below for more info and pics. Daft Punk: FINAL!

Daft Punk Table Replica driver board reverse reconstruction.

I'm in love with the daft punk table: https://www.instructables.com/id/How-to-build-a-Daft-Punk-Table-Replica/?ALLSTEPSI'm actually making a wall hanging rather than a table because theres no room in my studio for another table. The author of that instructable didn't include the microcontroller program or a circuit for the driver board. From the description (and looking at another site) we can tell that it uses a a couple I2C port expanders connected to a transistor array. I have both the PFC port expander and the ULN2803A in my parts box, but I think it can be made cheaper, faster, and expandable.I want to ditch the I2C bus. Why? 1. Its slow (100 or 400 khz), not that more is needed, but what about bigger boards?2. Its bit intensive: each chip update requires a)start signal, b) address byte, c)port setting byte, d)stop signal. That's more than 8 bytes of bits per table update.3. Its expensive: the i2c bus needs 2 pullup resistors, and you have to route Vcc to them on the PCB. I2C peripherals are a bit pricey ($1+ for the PFC i2c port expander). You need a UC with hardware I2C, or write a I2C software routine, etc. 4. Its not expandable beyond the assigned number of I2C addresses. The PFC chips have a limited number of address selections (determined by the state of 3 pins). If all addresses have been used then a second I2C bus would have to be added. These goals can all be accomplished with a handy chip I learned about in lady ada's bike POV instructable, the 74HC(T)595. The 595 is a serial to parallel port expander with 8 output bits. The interface is a simple 3 line affair with serial data/clock lines and a latch that puts the data on the pins. Now the cool part: several can be connected end-to-end so that you can create a chain with hundreds of extra outputs. Bits can be clocked in at up to 20Mhz, so large or multiplexed grids are possible. Why its good:1. Its fast, up to 20 Mhz2. Simple interface - clock in only the bits needed then set the latch. 26 bits, <4 bytes per refresh.3. Its cheap: 0.33 per chip, easy 3 wire interface can be operated with microcontroller, PC parallel port, or even buttons.4. Massively expansion potential, multiple chips can be chained for a disgusting number of outputs. The circuit is pretty basic. It only includes those things needed for the graphics card : I/O expanders, transistor array, connection headers. Power supply and control unit are separate components. The 595 has a 'blank' pin, it seems to reset all the chips to a known state when pulled low. I wanted to make it available for a 'more complete' design, but I also included a jumper so that it can be manually disabled for use in simpler implementations. The 3d is just for fun: the PCB is mostly unrouted.Any comments or suggestions? Has anyone used the 595 before? I've ordered a few to play with, but have not yet used them.

This video is a clip from Daft Punk's movie Electroma with a different song by them called Make Love.I find this clip very saddening. To get this jist of the movie watch the second clip (the video doesn't really start till 33 seconds in) and it has pretty good music! Basically the robot with the silver helmet wants to become human and the robot in the gold helmet is his best friend. They try and become human in a robot world. any thoughts?

Pirate Station Robot Helmet

Hello everyone! Name's DJ_DAN. Just need some URGENT HELP! I just saw some videos of a Drum & Bass Festival called Pirate Station Network. It's robot head design really got me, and I like to make a fully wearable DJ helmet with animated LEDs for the eyes, and a black grid-ish metal mesh for the mouth. Something like this: http://www.featurepics.com/FI/Thumb300/20100216/Black-Metal-Grid-1460869.jpg And really basic animations for the eyes, like fading in & out, flashing, standing still, etc. The base could be made from fiberglass or mabye carbon fiber. The eye "lens" maybe could be made from plexiglas or something like that. And the "headphones" could be the part of the helmet, with built-in headphones. I just slighty edited the design of the original PSN robot helmet, which looks like something like this: http://www.4shared.com/photo/3miIkBII/robothelmetdesign.html PLEASE! I just want to know who could do one for me or at least how could I start to make the helmet! PLEASE HELP! (And sorry for my English...)

Questions about how to make the daft punk table

https://www.instructables.com/id/How-to-build-a-Daft-Punk-Table-Replica/ I am wondering how hard of a project this would be to take on. A little information I have not built a great deal of things in my life and don't have any electrical background. I really want to make this though and have nothing but time at the moment. Does anyone think this would be doable without any knowledge of how to build LED boards and just trying to do it by the instructions? I only ask because I don't to go out and buy all this and than find out its way over my head, or also if anyone wants to give me a starter LED project I could try that first I just don't know where to find simple projects. Thanks for your guys help and this truly is a amazing website. Help/Request?

Hi, guys. I just made my account (like 2 minutes ago), but I've looked at the site far longer than that. My question is that I've noticed a select few of posts about DIY Daft Punk helmets, preferably with programmable LED messages/animations. So, being that the cost of one on Etsy is 700 dollars and the shortest amount of time I saw someone build one like this was 17 months...I was wondering if someone could link me to an Instructable, or any site, where I can have instructions/material lists (maybe price?) on how to build something to the extent of a simple Daft Punk helmet. No, it doesn't have to look like one. Literally, all I want is a cool looking helmet/mask that I can program LED's with. Here's something I was thinking, I thought this was kind of cool: https://www.instructables.com/id/Harder-Brighter-Flashya-Strobyer-DaftPunk-LED-Helm/ I want something like this. Could I buy/make one? Again, doesn't really need to be as complicated as a Daft Punk helmet. Thanks.

Electric synthesized talk box? Answered

This is find of a run off of a previous question, where someone came up with the idea of making my voice sound like that in song Technoloigic by Daft Punk. Reason being, I'l be wearing one of their helmets. My question is: does anyone know of a way to make a talkbox that will work off of my plan voice with no outside noise? IE, I talk into a mic and the output is the sound from a talkbox. It would have to be small enough to fix into a coat pocket (so roughly the size of a pack of cards).

I'm getting more and more done on a set of helmets (Daft Punks, to be exact) and ran into a slight snag. While fitting them and what not, I found out people have a hard time hearing me, and I have a hard time hearing them. And this is in a perfectly quite room. So when I do finish these, and start wearing them...I'm going to be a deaf mute. I did some looking, and I know I can at least get my phone worked into it. However, I was wondering if there is either a pre-existing soultion to this, or if someone has any cleaver ideas for a system that will feed outside audio into me, and inside audio out. Thanks in advance!

Picaxe 28x2 BCD to Decimal conversion? Answered

Hi, Bit of a daft question really. I am trying to output my clock data from my Pic' 28X2 to a custom array of LED's. I have the code that reads my clock (RTC DS1307) and coverts the BCD input to decimal but no matter what I can't seem to find out how to output the decimal data or have the picaxe arrange it in such a way that it will be displayed on my LED array. My array is, put simply, an LED version of an analogue clock with 60 LEDs for the seconds, minutes etc. If I could have some pointers with regard to either decimal output or BCD output to a dedicated BCD to DEC chip, that would be much appreciated. Thanks

How can I convert .bin to .img for router (OpenWRT) reflash?

I am trying to get my head around installing OpenWRT on my Netgear dg834gt. I have found the hardware page, identified the correct image and downloaded it. Is there any method of converting between these presumably different formats? I could get a jtag/serial connection to the target but I'm waiting on a cable, so the Web interface would be preferable. Any help is appreciated, Thanks in advance, Drew p.s. I'm a Linux user. Also, I have no idea if this is a daft question or not.

Arduino LED matrix for text and a audio spectrum?

Still running off my daft punk helmets, I had the idea of installing the ability to give the 8x40 LED matrix that will be installed into one of them the ability to be a real-time audio spectrum. Doing that on its own is something I can stumble through and get working, but my issue came in with the fact I also want to be able to change it to be able to display text. I'm thinking I can "change modes" between using some sort of EQ shield/setup to run the matrix verses pulling info for text, but this is one of the dark areas for me that I need a little bit of help on. Basically: I need to know if I could set up a switch to swap between EQ and text. EDIT: I've already answered my question! However, this lead to a second question. If I use this code, how hard would it be to edit it to either duplicate or stretch it out over an 8x40 LED matrix verses the 8x8 its on? Thanks!

Can someone tell me what Physics (and probably Engineering )is?

I am about to start my last year at school (1 September), with made me think of what am I going to do in a year. Before, I was sure that I want to do Physics in university, but somehow I realised that (probably) REAL Physics should have little connection with what I enjoy. I love tinkering with stuff, reading books and learning things from them (I learned all the STR I know by myself), making something funny (Tesla coils, ellipse compasses... You know the sort), learning how it all works, understanding things by finding and solving problems (my current topic is wet hydrodynamics), thinking about paradoxes, and solving puzzles. It all seems like a game I love to play alone and with my friends, and which we occasionally teach to some younger kids. My friends, who have just finished undergraduate year 1 can't tell me anything constructive, so can someone tell me what science is? I know the topic is a bit daft, but it's quite important for me. I will certainly ask the same thing everywhere and not once, but still...

Deadmau5 head with plastic / wood / fiberglass ears? Do I need to mold them using body filler and glass fiber?

I'm going to use deadmau5's cheese head as it is visibly the best for an example. The ears are made of a hardened material with a gloss finish. The holes through them seem to clearly show that they are not foam underneath. I was curious as to how I could achieve the same effect and strength. I've seem some exquisite models of helmets here and in particular individuals who have created the daft punk helmets. They created molds. I've never used fiberglass / body filler / etc but I'm a rapid learner and I'm willing to suffer trial and error like anyone else. I was curious though, if it is possible to take the styrofoam ear and then coat the ear with bondo (or another body filler/putty) to create that hardened mold and then primer, paint and gloss it. Can someone with experience with these materials shed some light. I really want to achieve this look! Here is a video of the cheese head when it was unveiled: Thanks in advance guys. I can be contacted via email at "sip_deco_c@hotmail.com" if required. Help would be greatly appreciated! Peace, Deco

Circuits and clothing at conventions: anything to look out for?

I've been working on a pair of working Daft Punk helmets for some time now. I am working on the electronics for it now, and I'm designing a systems to let me wear the helmets drivers and batteries without having to have a backpack that would cover up the hard work I did on a jacket (shameless plug is shameless). Anyway, I've settled on a custom vest with pockets to store all the needed bits and bobs. However, if I wear just the vest (from the plans I have so far) I get the feeling someone might think it's some sort of bomb. While I have no intention of removing my jacket (as to try and keep the inner working under wraps) I am concerned that if I do remove the jackets, someone might get startled at a convention. As I have never personally been to a convention, and I plan to start going on them much more, I was curious if anyone has dealings with stuff of this nature. And, if they do, if there is anything I can do to ensure nothing as bad as someone yelling "bomb" at me (maybe get it checked as a weapon?). Either way, this is something I need to consider before I actually start making the control vest, so if I need to modify the design, I can. Also: I do know that most conventions have certain guidelines to them. Again, I have yet to go to any, and plan to go to them more often. Due to this, I want to know what the most strict set of rules would be, and follow those. Although, the strictest I have seen is peace-bonding weapons, nothing regarding clothing. Thanks in advance!

Making a pseudo-luminescent stripe on clothing

I hope this is the right place to ask for advice, I'm new to the site and don't have the hang of everything yet. I'm in the planning stage of a Tron Legacy inspired hooded sweatshirt I intend to make. One of the outfits that really caught my eye in the movie were the coats with the luminescent stripes running up the inside and around the inside of the hood. I can't find any pictures of them on the web, but picture something like the glowing stripes on Daft Punk's outfits in this picture: http://moviesmedia.ign.com/movies/image/article/113/1131044/tron-legacy-20101028103012902.jpg I'd like to sort of recreate that on a less intense scale (unless somebody wants to share a way to add cgi special effects to real life! :P ) using a method to make the material look luminescent without actually glowing itself. The idea I have now that I was tossing around with a friend would be to run reflective tape around the inside edge of the hoodie, then stitch the tape on, and then run EL wire around the outer edge of the tape, so it would be hidden under the seam of the hoodie. I think that would work by reflecting the light from the EL wire into the tape and giving the illusion of it glowing. After some discussion my friend told me about this site and said I could ask here and maybe somebody would know another way of doing it that might look better. Anyway, thanks for reading all that, if my project turns out good I'll try to put together an Instructable guide on how to "Tron-ify" your own clothes! :)

Top LED Instructables

The number of awesome LED Instructables keeps increasing, and we want to show them off! We have an older list of top LED Instructables, but within the space of a year and a half, including the very successful Let it Glow! and Get the LED Out! Contests, we've gotten many more cool projects that light up with color due to LEDs. Here are, in no particular order, 10 more great LED Instructables for you to try (or just admire): LED Chess Set With some dedicated modifying, you can turn a cheap glass chess set into a beautiful, glowing version. It also inspired another Instructable, the Simpler LED Chess Set. Synchronizing Fireflies A favorite of randofo's , this series of LEDs shows a possible way that fireflies synchronize lighting up at the same time. Turn Signal Biking Jacket Hand signals, meet technology: a biking jacket with controllable glowing turn signals built in. 4x4x4 LED Cube Make light-based designs and patterns come to life with a large cube of LEDs. Animated Multilayered Engravings Transform a simple engraving into an animated piece of art with LEDs. LED Pasties The LED pasties became an instant classic--a very simple, very creative upgrade of burlesque pasties. Daft Punk Replica Table The squares on top of this table light up individually and can be programmed to make patterns and designs. LED Creatures These LED creatures can be programmed to recognize each other and can be a great project for kids and beginner LEDers. Hard Hat LED Display Geeks and construction workers are not often associated, but this hard hat bridges the gap with its LED Pong display. Fiber Optic and LED Garden Make a glowing garden that looks good both day and night and never needs to be watered. Choosing these 10 was very difficult--there are an enormous number of great LED projects on Instructables.Enjoy these projects, and let there be light-emitting diodes!

I2C to SPI BASIC code conversion?

Hello all. Pretty daft and most likely simple sollution to those who know what they are doing I'm sure. I am building a 132 LED clock (60 for seconds, 60 for minutes and 12 for hours). I'm using a Picaxe 28X2 and will most likely be using 3 MAX7221's to display the LED's, 1 each for the hours, minutes and seconds. I'm currentlty using a DS1307 RTC module to keep time. Exposition over! My question is, I am using open source code from a guy who made a clock using Pic 28X1, MAX7221 and DS1305 displaying on four 7-segment displays. now the differences between the Pic's with regard to coding I can handle, although I do have a 28X1. The fact that the DS1305 and 1307 use SPI and I2C respectively means that the differences between comms protocols are confusing the hell out of me. Now please forgive the length of this question. Basically, I need some pointers as to whether it would be better to try and convert the code to use I2C for the RTC and stick with SPI for the MAX or should I just buy a DS1305 at almost £6 per chip and make my life a bit easier? I have already tried using the code with my 1307 but the 7-seg display I have just stays on the No2. As for the differences in display type...well I'll come to that once I get the timing working. If I've left anything out or you need more information then please let me know. Here is the link to the clock schematic: http://tech-tut.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/08/real_time_clock_advanced_schematic.pdf And the code is far too long to be pasted here I'm affraid and the file I originally got it from had converted it into word which pushed all the lines together. That was a fun few hours sorting that out! Thanks in advance

volpin spine sculpt method+another one like it?/3d modeling help?

This is a 2 fold question: http://volpinprops.blogspot.com/2011...as-part-1.html http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TNZK8-z0ndk&feature;=plcp http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dTg5kpzXkJg&feature;=plcp http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LsiGgR9HVJQ&feature;=fvsr http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yDq_uHKZeIM I’m trying to use volpin’s method of make 3d objects using photos of views of an object, making a skeleton (he uses MDF; I want to use cardboard), and then placing foam or something sandable in the skeleton and shaping it using the spines. I also found this video where a guy uses a similar method and I was wondering if I could get some help on how I could combine these 2 methods. I want to use the method off the youtube video, but I don’t know how to do it with the side, top, bottom, back, and front view method volpin uses. Also, I tried volpin’s method on google skethup and just using the spines doesn’t quite give the results I thought it would. Does this mean you have to sand the rest of the way and make sure everything is even? If so, IMO, I would want to do the youtube method more (no offense volpin, im just not as good a sculpter and artist as you lol; I need lots of help). My second question(which ties in with the first) is about 3d modeling. I’m trying to make complex shapes using volpin’s method and the methods on 2 anim8or tutorials on the 2 youtube videos (the side views off photos) to make pepakura files, still using google sketchup. Is there a book or something I can use to learn how to make stuff like in the anim8or tutorials? Usually I could watch and teach myself, but for some reason my mind can’t wrap around the concept. Also, is sketchup bad for the job, and if so why? What should I be using (something free since this is a one time deal for me)? An additional note, I am currently using google skethcup and corelDRAW X5. Where can I learn how to make the reference photos like volpin makes (look for skyrim helmet on his blog and the daft punk helmet in the link) so I can send them to the 3d model program? What I’m trying to do is take pictures off of a playarts kai halo master chief and make armor files. Any help would really really be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I feel...

As is becoming traditional for new folk in The Office, it's time for me lay down some thoughts on my first week as Artist in Residence. I feel old. As I staggered up the stairs last Monday, luggage on my back, I looked and round at a room full of young people. I haven't been so crass as to directly ask, but I immediately sure that there is a full generation between the people that I was looking at and myself. Many of them are far closer in age to my sons than to me. I feel welcome. Everybody smiled at me, even if my arrival interrupted whatever they were doing, and quite a few folk that first few minutes weren't sure who who I was, but were still welcoming. Everybody is very helpful, nowhere is out of bounds. Stumpchunkman Matt went out of his way to make sure I had a base to work at, Noahw sorted out the legals in moments, Jessyratfink gave me a tour (the place I had previously referred to as "HQ" is actually in three different places, a brisk stroll apart). I feel valued. Almost immediately, my opinion was being asked, used and acted upon. I've helped choose contest winners, and been part of the development process for the future of the site (interesting!). I have been included in everything. I have not been punched by a member of the dev team. I feel trusted. I have a key to the office hanging on my belt, and I know where the coffee is. I feel ignorant. These people, these young people, know so much more than I do about the high end of Making. But, they're also keen to teach - I have had lots of offers for help to learn. As a teacher, that feels weird, weirdly good... I feel happy. The walk from my apartment to the main office takes about 50 minutes, and goes through a somewhat dodgy area of the city, but every day I smile the full way, even singing and whistling. The bus-ride back (it's up-hill - I may be happy, but I'm not daft) is crowded and sweaty, but I am still smiling, and still ready to sing (but quietly). I've never been like that on a commute. I feel productive. I've only published two small projects this week, but I have two larger projects in development that will involve staff, and a bunch of other things to make as well. It's really useful that conversations with staff go along the lines of "Can I have a...? Yes" ------------------------------ Basically, all this adds up to this being a really good experience. It is by no means a free ride (thank goodness for credit cards!) - if you're young and single you could do this for a lot less than I have, but I could not get away with spending a month in California without bringing the family along. If you ever, ever get the chance to do this, or something similar, then grab it with both hands!

Eee, when I were young...

In no particular order...We had a single telephone in the house, landline, rotary dial, and several neighbours didn't have that. One TV in the house. CRT, 15 inch screen.Only three TV channels. They weren't on all night. They weren't even on all day.Black and white, all the way - TV, camera filmOnly two transistor radios in the house, running off 9V batteries the size of my fist. Most stations were on AM & LW bands. Commercial stations broadcast from "abroad".One record player in the house, which still have a position on the speed selector for playing 78rpm discs.Headphones the size of scotch eggs were the norm, not a fashion statement. No mobile phones at all.No game systems. No hand-held units. No home computers (the ZX81 came out when I was 14).The internet wasn't even a pipedream. The largest libraries had microfiche.Foreign holidays were a luxury - the only £10 trip was a one-way ticket to Australia.I did not see a black man in the flesh until I was 13. Oriental later the same year.Seat belts were not only optional, they were often not fitted.Ladders were toys, not a risk to life and limb.No speed cameras. Speed traps involved measured distances and policemen with stop-watches.No central heating. No double glazing. No catalytic converters.Petrol had lead in it, but only cost pennies a gallon. If you spent an hour in London, your snot turned black. If you spent a day there, it stayed black for a week."CCTV" was just a random collection of consonants.Old factories were called "derelict", not "industrial heritage", and kids called them "playgrounds".The bombsites were still blamed on Hitler.Russia was still Soviet, and old folk thought of them as allies.Hospitals smelled of carbolic soap, and the only infections came in with the patients. Nurses had starched collars and pink-scrubbed hands.I was the only child with asthma in a school of 400.Nobody was allergic to anything, except powdered eggs.Terrorists all had Irish accents, and telephoned the police to tell them where the bombs were.Nuclear power was going to give us free electricity in only five years - just in time to power the robot maid.Nuclear war was a genuine fear. The Falklands War was news, not history. You could hitch-hike and expect to arrive at your destination alive.Alcoholism was a hobby, not a disease.Lager was for poofters, cider was for girls.Nobody knew how to play basketball, baseball or ice hockey, and football was only ever played with a round ball. The nearest thing to "protective clothing" in sport was a goalie's gloves.Rollerskates had wheels on the corners, and strapped to your shoe.Banks were as trusted as the police. The police were trusted.Policemen were tall.Emergency vehicles went nee nah nee nah! (except for the ones with bells).Flared trousers were original.Science fiction had ray guns and robots, and spacemen were spacemen. You could travel ten miles and find people who spoke a different dialect (not just a different accent).Kids who misbehaved in school got sent to the head for a caning, instead of to the doctor for a tablet.Health and safety meant "don't do anything daft", and if you fell off a roof and broke your leg it was your own damned fault, not the fault of the roof-owner for not warning you about the drop, and nobody sued anybody.Gay meant "happy", and camp meant "in tents".Teachers that hit you were firm professionals, not dangerous perverts. The phrase "two car family" hadn't been coined....and I didn't feel quite so old.
