Can't decide... EDIT: Choice made!

I'm buying a new multi-tool. I have been using a Leatherman Juice for almost seven years, and it's starting to show its miles.  I know I could replace it under Leatherman's guarantee, but it's one I won from Instructables, and it's engraved. So, I'm trying to choose a replacement, which will be part of my EDC. At the moment, I'm havering between the Gerber Crucial and the Leatherman Sidekick. I like the Crucial. My youngest has one for scouting, and I've used it a few times. It's quite comfortable in the hand, and feels strong. However, it lacks tools I have used quite a bit in the past. It's proving a hard choice, online reviews vary between useless and contradictory, so I thought I'd see what you folks think. What are you carrying as DIY EDC, what do you wish you were carrying? CHOICE MADE! I have a Leatherman Wave on it's way in the post!

deciding between 2 crybaby wah mods?

I hav a an old gcb-95 crybaby that i have already modded with a variable Q control, but the Q control doesnt make much of a noticable difference. im trying to decide between putting in a 6 way rotary switch to select between different sweep caps(like in the 535q) or to put in a 5k pot in series with the ground lead of the wah pot to adjust the range of the wah(just like jerry cantrell wah) whats the difference in sound between the 2 mods? is changing the sweep cap changing only the range, only the Q, or both? basically, do these both change the sound in the same way, or dfferent? if theyre different, im just gonna put both in.

YOU decide the mod for my new speakers!

Hey I just got the speakers I am going to use for college next year and I was wondering what I should do to them... This is where you come in (if anyone responds or even looks at this). I am interested in modifying my new Logitech X-140 speakers, but I don't quite know what to do with them just yet. I have thought about either spray painting them crimson and cream, or hiding them in some books, like I did with my speaker book (portable), except I would keep the speakers intact so I could remove them if I felt like it. If you have any ideas on what I should do with them, post the ideas here, and if I like your idea (or I think I am capable of completing your idea) I will try to complete it. Your idea doesn't have to be well thought out, just a general idea will inspire me. This will also become an instructable (whichever path I choose). In the instructable, I will also include my source of inspiration.

Crazy fun, or a slow cruel death - I can't decide...

This is just crazy - two Ocean Engineering students created a "hamster-powered submarine" from "materials derived from common household objects" that connected a hamster wheel in a sealed, air-supplied vessel to a propeller, allowing hamsters to take themselves on aquatic jaunts.  (via BoingBoing Twitter feed) Seriously, it's a submarine powered by a hamster in its wheel.  I can't decide if the hamster is having loads of fun, or is being driven mad with terror. It doesn't seem very fast, though... They documented the build on their own website, but if you would like to see an instructable on it, go to the video and leave a comment to say so...

is what i have decided for my computer build everything compatible? Answered

I decided to buy the core parts my custom cheap computer, that i plan to upgrade with better parts. but if i want to save money in the long run and not have to buy totally new parts for a building a decent computer. will these parts i choose will work together? the top parts are the bare essentials for my build, excluding the parts i already have in my old tower computer (case, 300W PSU, monitor, and keyboard, mouse, WiFi adapter {maybe read bellow}) MOBO:---ASRockZ77 Extreme4 LGA 1155 Intel Z77 ATX Intel Mobo----------------------$140 CPU: -----Pentium G620 (lga-1155)-------------------------------------------------------------------$64 RAM:-----G.SKILL Ripjaws X-Series 8GB DDR3 RAM Model F3-12800CL9D-4GBXL---$40 i plan to get these parts after i get the initial build working. if i am unhappy with the above specs i will upgrade. my parents want me to build a cheap $250 computer first to see if i am up to the challenge.  so i want everything i listed to work well together. so far i have worked out everything except the power supply cables (if it will power everything listed and crossfire/SLI for future improvement.) PSU:------OCZ ModXStream Pro 600W Modular High Performance Power Supply---$50 after rebates CPU:------Intel i5 3570K-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------$220 GPU:------either a gtx 660, or a Radeon 7870.-----------------------------------------------------$230.00 ish CASE:----Cooler Master Computer RC 430 KWN1/dp/B003O8J11E---------------------------$46 HDD:------unsure. whetever i get my hands on in the future. it will be 7200 RPM or better, maybe a cheap ssd as for the GPU any recommendations? i want something within $250 and will play games on high settings with no problem, and dual monitor setup. i think this GTX 660 it seems to be slightly better than the radeon 7870, and cheaper. i might go with this. is it a good idea to get a CPU that has the 'K' at the end, i know this means it is overclockable bacause it is unlocked. but it it worth it to pay the extra 20 for a faster stock clock speed, and HD 4000 graphics? compared to the i5 3550? p.s. i will delete parts of my question(s) that have successfully been answered by you and the community.  thank you everyone who helped me out with this. i have to give credit to:  mpilchfamily, Willard2.0,  and bwrussell have been very helpful. i cant wait until i start building!

Alesis Nanoverb: Effects Unit or new Project Box? You decide

Hi Everyone,Well I posted this as an Instructable, but someone pointed me to the forum, so here I am. My Alesis Nanoverb hasn't worked in a while. Initially it just made wall warts stop working. But at some point, it stopped powering on. Since I have minimum skills with electronics and have only recently started to solder together my own altoids tin light w/LEDs, I thought I should ask for help from the sages in the forum.I posted the instructable at: advice you could give would be helpful. For example, where do I test it with the voltsmeter to see if it's got continuity? Which selection on the voltsmeter do I use for continuity? Etc.I've provided pictures of the guts and a picture of me testing the Nanoverb.THANKS

But I am having trouble determining what transistors to use. This schematic has the details on what values of resistors to use but not what transistors they are: Which ones should I use? same thing with this one: This one seems pretty promising since it does list what transistors to use: and I don't know this one is hard for me to understand: Which one do you think is best or what transistors could I use in either of the first 2? Is the last one actually a 555 timer or is it something else?

Putting RGB LEDs in paper lanterns for live music performance visuals, need help deciding what route to take?

So I have some paper lanterns, 8" in diameter, and I ordered some RGB LEDs to put in them, gonna wire it to an arduino and then to a computer so I can control them from offstage. I'm realizing that I probably need more light power (lumens?) than 3-5 RGB LEDs in each lantern.. :( So should I get a strip of LEDs or something? What's gonna give me some fire power for not too much dough? Also any other suggestions are more than welcome.

Help deciding what is better for a project I am doing with a 1900 LEDs. 1 big circuit or lots of smaller ones?

Hi folks, Long time reader and first time poster. I have 1900 LEDs and 1900 CR2032 3 V batteries left after some recent throwie / stickie / fun but I am now thinking about doing something a little more with them. Thinking of doing some art installations with LEDs as a feature. Anyone know of the best way to wire up a simple circuit for these 1900 LEDS. Wanting them to last about 3 - 4 days. I know a throwie will last about 4 days, sometimes more with these batteries and LEDs. Is it a simple case of having to solder 1900 circuits? or go for something like 190 circuits with 10 LEDs and a battery pack of 10 3v batteries. From my understanding that will blow the LEDs if the V differential is greater than about 8Vs. This should be ok when setting the LEDs in series though? 10 X 3v batteries giving 30Vs 30v - 28.3v = 1.7v (where the 28.3 is made up of Yellow X 2, Green X3, White X 2, Blue X 3)0.2 amps needed, should be supplied by the 10 batteries easily and should last over 4 days.Baring this in mind is it worth my while picking up some resistors for the circuits? Last did serious electronics and physics about 11 years ago but I guess im bright enough and have the basics.?I have 200 Red needing about 1.7 volts500 Yellow needing about 2.1 volts500 Green needing about 2.2 volts500 White needing about 3.5 volts ??200 Blue needing about 3.5 voltsI would like all the LEDs to turn off and on together preferably when it gets darker to maximise the effect of the lighting. Going to use something like a LDR for that so I would prefer 1 larger circuit but I guess multiple circuits is also possible. Any help, comments, corrections and belittling gladly welcomed. Thanks very much, Dr Lego
