timed detonator

Ok, I LOVE airsoft, as many do. I wanted to make a time bomb detonator for different missions, where we could set the time and your squad would have to get there and disarm it. All it would do if we didn't make it in time is set off a smoke bomb. That way everyone would know the game was over. but I do not know where to get a battery powered alarm clock. (the dollar store doesn't sell them) does anyone know where to get one?

Pulse detonation(numerical simulation)

Hello everyone iam a Msc student now, i have done many projects over pulsejet engines which you could see in my instructables list. Now i have decided to do a project over pulse detonation engines, before beginning with the real one i thought that making a fluent simulation will be better. I have several tries to create the detonation front and atlast i succeeded in creating one. Take a look at the attached pictures which shows the development of a detonation front inside a long tube of 100cm. Further works will be updated soon. Will a steel wool strain run between a 9 volt battery be able to ignite certain materials?

I am working on using a 9 volt batery if not larger run through wires to aligator clips with steel wool pinched in the clips. I am using it for fireworks. I would like to know if the quick glow of the steel wool would be enough to ignite 2 different materials before it burns out. These materials are 1. Gunpowder Fuse 2. Aerosol hair spray (rather safe then sorry on the potato cannon for test usage)... I am debating wether or not i need that with a primer to make a longer last heat. If so, any suggestions on what kind of primer and how to secure it to the steel wool grain? I have tested the 9 volt running to the steel wool and it does glow and burn itself out but it does not seem to last long or even enough to ignite a paper towel.

cheap time bomb (fireworks detonator)

Heres my idea: Take a cheap dollarstore or walmart watch with an alarm. wire a capacitor where the little speaker/beeper thing it would store up a small charge and then have it arc or a fuse to light it. so you set the alarm for the time you want it to go off, it goes off, builds a charge, arcs over the fuse and lights the roman candle, firecrackers, whatever you want. would this work? are there any ways of boosting the power of the arc or making the fuse light easier?

Warning to anyone who does explossives

As a former pyrotechnician, I fell like I must war people how dangerouse this shit is. Black powder is a high explosive and can be detonated with a slight impact of a feather. Flash powder is EXTREMELY DANGEROUSE, IT CAN BE DETONATED WITH OUT SPECIFIC REASONS. AMMOUNIUM NITRATE Is also another highly unstable high explosive, it can be set of even if you drop it. Gasoline is a high EXPLOSIVE, it just takes a spark to detonate. That why they are use in cars! DON"T LISTEN WHAT THESE OTHER PEOPLE SAY ABOUT GAS NOT BEING AN EXPLOSIVE, IT REALLY IS AN HIGH EXPLOSIVE, I know this because I'm an pyrotecnic. Molotov cocktails are often used in the army, they canblow up holw rooms, and if the fire on the rage hits the inside of the jar youre dead. Sparklers are another high explosive, thats why they are illigal, they can detonate and blow your whole arm off. M-80 can blow up for no specific reason, the gun powder(AKA BLACK POWDER) is extremely unstable. Match heads are also as unstable as gunpowder, it can even ignite under it's own weight. Nitrogen triiodide is also unstable. Thermite can detonate with a powerful heat and force but it can only be detonated with magnesium. Pottasium nitrate can even blow up if you just leave it there. SO, DO NOT BE DOING THESE FIREWORKS!

Ball counter or weight sensor with relay to sound alarm or trigger 9v confetti cannon

Anyone interested in a bit of work...I could also run it as a competition. Apologies in advance if what I am doing in not allowed on instructables, but I couldn't find a place to offer this work. Peoplehour does not specialise in tech gadgets! I am a one man band training business in the UK. I am trying to find someone to make this gadget to work with my Gravity Ball Game. Gravity Ball is a two hour team building activity. Gravity Ball requires teams to design and build a construction capable of transporting a ball from one zone to another; the ball must roll freely along the construction using gravity only. There will be a shared zone that will require team collaboration, cooperation and coordination. Everyone needs to contribute to the overall team objective whilst ensuring their own structure functions to a specific brief and works correctly. All teams will release their designated ball (tennis ball, golf ball, cricket ball, squash ball. Etc.) at the same time. Each team ball will roll freely along the team structure, into the shared area and the fall into a collection container. When all the balls are in the container (and a specific weight achieved) then the Weight sensitive relay switch will detonate a electronic confetti cannon. Alternatively, an infra red or sensor can count the number of balls that pass at a particular point and when the designated number is reached, the confetti cannon will detonate The detonation will give a wow factor to the team activity. Considerations: I need a gadget, Arduino, raspberry pi or beaglebone that can measure or count the number of ball and then detonate a confetti cannon or sound an alarm • Programmable weight or ball counter setting • Maximum weight 300g-400g or Maximum number of passing balls is 10 • Work with standard electronic confetti cannon from Confetti Masters, alarm or Siren (http://www.confettimaster.com/streamer.electric.confetti.cannons.html) or Showtec electric cannons (http://www.sblite.co.uk/598-80cm-multicolour-electric-confetti-cannon.html) Message me if you are interested! Kind regards Canute

If You Could Do Something Incredibly Stupid Without Consequences

If you could do something incredibly stupid without any consequences such as injury or death, what would you do? Useful tools

Cheap, cordless drills are amazing tools. Take one apart and attach a speed controller, you got a motor for a robot. Also, they have good high torque motors that can be used for all sorts of things. A $50 RC transmitter and a receiver make good remote uses, such as remote detonation. More useful tools are pneumatic cannons. I've used them from pressure testing to damage testing. WHat are your useful, unconventional tools?

Fireball Bomb that works like an A bomb

This is an improved version of lemonie's Instructable Big explosion, bang, fireball, so hoorah to him for it. But any way, my idea is that I wanted to control the exact moment it went off, so this brought me to my first idea, just put black powder and a fuse in the lid of a butane can. Well this didn't work, I just got a jet of flame, plenty cool, but no fireball or musroom cloud. I realized I lacked the essential ingrediants of compression and rapid combustion. So I made this. It's literally a firing mortar for the can, the idea is a non-explosive shell (a coffee can filled with cement with a large bean can set inside to make an orofice) filled with an explosive, with the can of butane in the middle, and a cement stepping stone on top. The idea is that the explosive, when detonated, implodes the can, thus pressurizing it, then ignites the butane, thus decompressing it, A.K.A BOOM. The stepping stone by this point would have come of, thus allowing the expanding hot gasses to disperse. For saftey, the entire contraption would be put in hole in the ground, with no green grass growing all around. The reason I haven't tested it is that I had a very close shave with the cops for the butane can incendierary grenade. Disclaimer, I am not liable for what you do with this information, nor am I responsable for any damage to person or property, in other words, it's your problem if you kill your self. If you haven't yet noticed why this works like an A bomb, what in tarnation are you doing on this site? But, for credebility, I'll say. The main method of detonating a fission weapon is the implosion method. Prior to detonation a nuclear weapon consists of one or more pieces of weapon-grade fissionable material which are subcritical in configuration. The implosion method is when one sphere of material is compressed (through an explosion) to make it supercritical, which leads to a chain reaction, which results in the destruction of the atom, leading too duh, a big explosion.

Benazir Bhutto 1953-2007

What are your thoughts about the Benazir Bhutto assassination on December 27? For those who have not yet heard, Benazir Bhutto, a former Prime Minister of Pakistan, and the chairman of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), was assassinated as she was leaving a campaign rally for her party. When she got into her vehicle, a man fired multiple shots at Benazir Bhutto. Moments after, possibly the same gunman, detonated explosives on himself, killing about 20 people. Her 19-year old son has taken over her position as chairman of the PPP, under the care of his father. What are your thoughts about this matter, and the turmoil and mourning currently going on in Pakistan.

Valve that shuts off once a set pressure is reached?

For something I am in the process of designing, I need a valve that can be connected to a high pressure source and will allow the gas from the high pressure side to to flow into a sealed container on the other side until a pre-set pressure is reached. It should then shut off. The system used to do this should also be able to handle a very high pressure spike (possibly even the type of compressed pressure wave generated during a super-sonic combustion / detonation) on the sealed container side. If you can provide a diagram or the name of a type of valve or even just a description of how this could be done it would be appreciated. No computer controlled stuff please. ##################### The answer I have discovered is to use a regular diaphragm-type pressure regulator. ######################

Exploding color pigments - need ideas to make

Hello everyone, I am working on a film project and I need to make small explosions of colored pigments and/or powder. Below is a link to a few sample photos of the affect that I am trying to achieve. http://photogrvphy.com/pedro-aguilar-bang/ I have tried many different techniques from impact to compressed air. But I am not getting the shapes that I am looking for. I am thinking  that the best technique might be some sort of controlled explosion. This could be something detonated within a pile of the powder or potentially (and more complicated) and fully concealed shell that includes the powder. I will primarily be shooting straight down above the powder so it really only needs to explode up and out. And again, these are relatively small blasts. I would estimate the powder blasts in the images from the link are only approximately 2' in width at the most. And help would be greatly appreciated!

How to Destroy 4700 Brand New Cars

As someone who feels that given enough time I can fix anything, this is one of those stories that really pains me. In 2006, a car freighter transporting 4,700 new cars from Japan to the US listed to its side as the crew was adjusting the ship's ballast. The ship leaned over to approximately 60 degrees, but was eventually righted in an operation that cost the life of one of the team members. Wired has the best coverage of how the ship was saved: High Tech Cowboys of the Deep Seas: The Race to Save the Cougar Ace. Having saved the cars, Mazda was now faced with the dilemma of what to do with them. Turning down options to donate, or in some cases even sell, the cars to fire extrication trainers, auto repair schools, or even Hollywood for stunts, Mazda has decided to carefully render each part inoperable -- cutting all four wheels in half, for example! -- shred the cars, and recycle the steal -- probably into new cars. They even created a purpose-built machine to detonate all six airbags at once. Be amazed and a little disgusted all at the same time by checking out the Wall Street Journal's coverage A Crushing Issue: How to Destroy Brand-New Cars and video:

what makes the best flash powder?potassium permanganate or nitrate?

Hello, currently performing operation "shoe candle" , for yowee. this operation is basically videoing the destruction of various fruit using flash powder or hmtd in a small 1-2ml glass vial. now, i have chosen my prefered explosive to be flash powder because after seeing the damage hmtd does when detonated in this way, i became frightful for my own safety, considering it lifted 1kg of dirt 30cm into the air and destabilizing it and making it fell as if it were dug up and loosly fille din again. ANYWAY i have come across a slight problem because i cant readily make aluminim powder enough to experiment with flash powder concuctions, and also i have about 4kg of finely powderd potassium nitrate lying around, wheras permanganate costs $10 for 25g at the pharmacy i would like to ask you instructables members, would flash powder made with potassium nitrate combust better than flash powder made with potassium permanganate the current mix i am using is 3 parts permanganate / 2 parts aluminium powder/ 1 part sulfur apparently this is the recipe for the old M-80's firecrackers i want to know if a equal or more powerful mix can be used by using potassium nitrate whoever answers will receive a best answer from me

Project ideas for a MacGyver game?

My cousin is joining the army this summer.  He's going to be a bomb defuser! We're going to give him a big send-off before he goes but we want to send him off with a little training. Another of my cousins is going to weld together a "bomb" shell and we are going to try to make it a puzzle that he has to solve / defuse using nothing but his MacGyver/ MacGruber  bomb disposal kit that we'll give him. He'll have things like matchsticks, tube socks, duct tape, etc.... and he'll have to use that stuff to defuse the "bomb" The most obvious thing I want to build into this thing is a countdown timer.  That's probably what he'll find when he gets all the way into the center. I want it to do two things:  Not activate until a pressure or momentary switch is RELEASED (he'll open a little door or something which will start the clock ticking) and I want the timer to stop when he cuts the correct wire.   Obviously it's just a toy, so it doesn't need to be particularly fancy or functional.  I'm not hunting for diagrams that could be used to build a  real detonation timer.  In fact the cheaper and cheesier the better, especially since my skills in this area are pretty limited. I know how to build an electronics project according to specifications, but I don't know much about designing circuits.  Does anyone know of an instructable out there that fits my description? Or at least gets close?   Have any other awesome ideas for stuff we should include in our MacGruber puzzle?  My cousin has an insidious idea for bolting it shut with a bolt that is threaded half clockwise and half counterclockwise.  you can get the nut halfway off but then it won't turn anymore unless you start turning it the opposite direction, which nobody ever figures out.

No patent on this one.

I have an idea. It could be a good one, and it could be a useful one. It could even be a money-spinning one, but I want to spread it instead of earn from it.What I'm thinking of was inspried by potato cannons:Imagine a combustion chamber of reasonable size, say a gallon volume. Cylindrical, it is domed at one end t withstand internal pressure, but the other end tapers to a narrow outlet. The idea is that an explosive mixture in the chamber (anything handy, but gasoline/air, ethanol/air and butane/air are the most likely) is ignited by a spark, just like a potato cannon. There is no ammunition, though. The tapered pipe (I hope) concentrates the blast to release a "bullet" of rapidly-moving gases. The whole cannon points down at the ground, the muzzle only a few inches from the ground. The detonation is triggered via a long cable (metres long). The "gas bullet" hits the ground with a large enough force to simulate the step of a human or animal, or the passing of a tyre. This triggers the landmine left months ago under the soil.My idea is, in effect, a low-tech device, capable of being built and repaired by semi-skilled locals, from scavanged materials, in war-torn areas. With a bit of training, a small team could use one to safely pound a mine-field hard enough to trigger the mines and make the area safe to live in. The cannon would be damaged by explosions, but not so badly that it would need repaired after every use, and it could be easily fixed with scrap from the nearest wrecked landrover.Would this work? Or would they need solid ammunition, say lumps of timber or rocks wrapped in rags to make a seal? That would need a staight (not tapered) barrel, but it's the same idea.I don't have the space or equipment to make one myself, and land-mine charities won't tell me how much force is required to trigger a mine, but most of you reading this are in the US, and it seems you have an easier time finding this kind of thing out.Run with the idea, chaps. Build one if you can, and ship it to somebody who needs it, or come up with better plans than my rough idea, and post them to those who need them.

3X Gasoline Engines Sniff Vapors and Burn Water

Sounds ridiculous doesn’t it? How can water possibly be turned into a useful fuel by just burning it? Sure we can use hydrolysis to separate water into its hydrogen and oxygen gases, and then burn the hydrogen gas as fuel, but that’s not what I’m talking about. Believe it or not, jet engines do it, they have used water to enhance engine thrust, so why not have IC-engines do the same thing? There’s a catch here, since only vapo-engines (  http://goo.gl/QQ42k ) are capable of performing this trick successfully, they must first be introduced into the design mix. Since IC-vapo-engines burn very effectively they run hot, and water would be used as a better alternative than injecting extra wasteful fuel to cool down the engine as is done in today’s engine to prevent knocking. Why don’t we just inject water in today’s engines you ask?  Because they run so poorly already, that the water would extinguish the IC-combustion process. In technical jargon this is known as the ability for an engine to burn lean with an air-to-fuel ratio greater than ~15. Today’s engines can’t sustain a leaner combustion than ~22  without extinguishing themselves. By adding water droplets we further increase this ratio to unsustainable conditions. Unfortunately, this wasteful, richer burning keeps the engine running better by keeping the fuel cooler. In contrast, our vapo-engine is capable of burning unbelievably lean ratios of ~30+. Lean combustion means almost no pollutants and virtually green combustion exhaust products of only CO2 and water. No catalytic converters necessary here, as opposed to running today’s rich engines with their unavoidable polluting exhaust emissions and heavy reliance on catalytic converters. So the irony here is that since IC-engines already run ratty, let’s waste a little more fuel and run richer just to cool down the engine. This prevents engine knocking (the dieseling of an engine due to unwanted, poorly timed, premature combustion) which occurs from the pitiful amount of fuel that does vaporize and burn correctly. Sadly, engineers have cleverly learned to waste fuel for the sole purpose of keeping our IC-engines cool, above and beyond the engine’s normal water cooling system. It gets even better, as the richer the engine runs the more we need to rely on expensive catalytic converters to keep exhaust emissions in check!  Vapo-engines also require cooling, even more than today’s engines, but their advantage is the capability to burn very lean. So instead of ridiculously injecting extra fuel to cool them, like today’s engines, we inject water droplets mixed in with the injected fuel vapor. The water droplets perform three functions; 1) they reduce excess fuel consumption, 2) they cool the engine walls to prevent pre-ignition and knocking which provides better combustion, and 3) they enhance the fuel-vapor detonation force created on the piston from the expanding superheated steam which further helps engine performance. So in a way we are burning the water to generate steam power like a locomotive.
