Hugging device

We are in search for ideas and/or off-the-shelf solutions for a mobility and toileting issue in response to the following request: "I apologize for posting again so soon, but I forgot to describe my disability, and why I'm physically unable to hug someone. I was born with a rare form of Muscular Dystrophy called Nemaline Myopathy. My disability affects me in many ways, but in this case, I'm unable to independently raise my arms, wrap them around someone, and have them stay in place. A device I'm seeking would have the ability to suspend my arms in the air, and be able to bring them together. One suggestion was to somehow hook it up to a motor, and operate the device by a remote. Also, when I was a kid, I had a device that was like a sling for my arms. The two slings were attached to two separate metal rods on both sides of me that were able to attach and detach from the back of my wheelchair. Someone would slide my arms into the sleeves, and I was able to bring my arms together, or do various tasks, like typing, with my arms suspended in the sling. I do have the strength to squeeze my arms together, but without assistance, my arms eventually do slide down due to gravity. A device similar to the sling idea would probably be ideal, plus no motor or electronic devices would be needed. I realize that this project could be timely, and possibly expensive, but to me it's worth it. I'd love to be able to give someone that I care about a real hug, and experience another form of intimacy and closeness." Happy to hear your ideas! Vibrotactile Device

Hi, I am trying to build a portable device that takes vocal vibrations (from a piezo mic attached to the throat) and outputs them as tactile vibrations elsewhere (say at the sternum). I've found and built simple circuits for preamps that run off 9V like this one (https://www.instructables.com/id/Make-a-Simple-Audio-Amplifier/?ALLSTEPS) but I'm struggling to work out how I can connect and power a vibrating device (e.g. another piezo mic) for the output.  I guess I will need to include a low pass filter too to prevent the device creating audible output (I just want low frequency tactile vibration). I've seen a similar project here https://www.instructables.com/id/Representing-audio-through-vibration-with-Arduino/?ALLSTEPS but it's using an arduino and I feel like that's unnecessary for my purposes.  Any ideas really appreciated, Oli

IOT devices

Hello. Please suggest some thoughts on the below: i am new to the IOT programming. just started learning with Intel Galileo Gen 2 board and Grove starter plus kit. I have a question in mind.. How can we package all the pieces and make as a product.. mean.. lets say when i do the temperature control that uses temperature sensor and display value in RGB screen, how do i make it as a packaged product so that i can make it portable instead of having the chips, wires etc..  i have basic idea that we can use 9v battery and run on it, but my question is, are there any ways that we can wrap all the things into a component box or something? any simple ways..??

eletronic stimulation device

Hello fellow builders, I am having some trouble, for a rather important school project i need to perform some test and for one of the set of tests i need a device to deliver electric impulses on a person on regular basis. so i immediatly thought of medical devices like a TENS or EMS (if i remember correctly) unit. no the big problem is they are almost unobtainable in working conditions or they cost a fortune in shipping and stuff. is it possible to make a unit like this on my own ?

Basically, I'm thinking a laptop-sized screen with a keyboard (basic functionality) that could stay on at home to receive/send texts for those folks (especially older folks) who cannot or will not use a smartphone or regular laptop.  Some sort of audible signal that as text has been received would be good too.  Thanks in advance for any and all help. ~J

Help with neurofeedback device

Are you in the San Francisco bay area? Interested in neurofeedback? Experienced with building your own electronics projects? Willing to help someone with little experience? I'm on a very limited budget, but this is something I need. I have plans for an open source neurofeedback device that I wish to build. I don't have a lot of experience with electronics (mostly microcontroller projects using solderless breadboards). If I have to, I'll be doing this myself. Need tracking device...

I have a horrible problem with keeping cirtain objects of mine within my grasp. As such, I was wondering if there was anything I could put together or attain that may help me keep track of these things. I have no knowledge of these things, so forgive me if what ii'm asking for sounds far-fetched. I'm looking for something like a small thing little beacon that could be attached to something like a shoe or book that sends out a some form of radio waves on a constant frequency, that can be picked up by the receiver that essentially lets you know how close you are by the sound it makes, whether it be through beeps or noise level. I believe things like that are out there, but i'm wondering i';f I can do anything on a really really small level, like the size of a watch battery with a piece of adhiesive on the back. Any kind of help, even just to let me no that its not possible or whatever, would be great. Thanks in advance.

How do you make an Electro Magnetic Pulse Device? Answered

I would like to make and EMP device to blow an RFID. I understand that it is a capacitor and a coil.  And that you charge the capacitor up and then discharge it through the coil.  But what size and voltage should the capacitor be, and at what what voltage do you charge it and how thick does the wire need to be? Is it all about the voltage of the cap (12 volt or 400 volt)  or is it more about the size of the cap? Thanks

Looking for directions for a device made in electric shop class that would let the user shock himself.

I remember that it was mounted on a block of wood, and had a metal plate attached to one side with holes in it.  It used a D battery and a copper wire coil.  A rectangular piece of copper with a copper probe attached was held by the user.  You would try to pass the probe through the holes in the metal plate; if you touched the plate, you were shocked. Does anyone have directions for something like this?

How To Create Frequency Specific Microcurrent?

Curious if some of the electronic gurus might have the answer to this. I am looking to build a two channel (A/B) microcurrent (allowing from 20 - 600 microamps) with selectable frequencies ranging from 3 to 970 Hz). This is based on a medical device that I'm looking to replicate. I've figured out some of this but again, considering the wealth of knowledge here I'm sure some would know the best way to build this. Oh yeah, I figure using a rechargeable battery which could be whatever voltage is best recommended. So what do you think???

Is there a DIY Arduino or Raspberry Pi Coordinate Measuring Machine published in "Instructables"? Answered

I wish to build a coordinate machine using x-y-z movements controlled by a microprocessor that can measure a scale model by touch of a probe or by reflection of a microwave.  The base machine would handle an envelope of 8" x 8" x 8" and use one or a combination of the best of the CNC laser cutters, 3D printers, etc.  Whether the microwave non-contact, crash avoidance, technology is sensitive enough would be interesting.  A couple of contact probe articles have been published and are the basis of commercial "Coordinate Measuring Machines" (CMM) and would be interesting if they are sensitive enough as a DIY project.  The end result would be to write a file with the x-y-z coordinates of say a model car, and knowing the scale of the model, one could multiply the data by the scale factor and have "Full Scale" coordinates of the cars' surface for building a kit car body.  A 1939 version of this project is on display at the CORD/AUBURN  Museum in Auburn, Indiana.  A 1939 Cord in 1:10 scale is shown as a clay model with half of the car finished.  The coordinate machine's purpose was to measure the right hand side completed in clay and produce a finished 1:10 scale model by finishing the left hand side symmetrically from data obtained from the opposite side. While interesting, it is a manual machine.  I am seeking an electronic, programmable, DIY version.
