Directional SPeaker

I saw a youtube video of a guy who built his own directional speaker (actually I remember it as a directional megaphone as he would talk into it, and it would target a person). I was wondering how easy it would be to do this? Can we build one with household material? Thanks for being awesome guys!

directional speaker

My neighbours (25m) play music outside every night till 4-5am. The bass is the problem. I'm going insane. Police comes and goes. Need instructions on either option - killing, hijacking speakers or building directional speaker for payback.  Can't spend much and have no knowledge of sound system but have CB in my car, 1200W sound system with wireless rear, sub and amp removed from car. Any help would be great as Im already researching ninja road stars. The bass is so strong I can't cover it with mine.

Train Direction

I wanted to make / fabricate an instrument for my railroad project which will have an input of 220 VAC and out put will be varying between 0 to 16 VDC (Potentiometer) and will have an arrangement to change the direction of train (forward and backward). I will be very much thankful to you for guiding me in this regard by giving me a list of components and circuit diagram thereof. I am having a ready made (purchased from the market) equipment of the same but it has become very old and hence I want to develop myself.With warm regards.Sher Dil

would anyone be willing to build a Radio Direction Finding device, for transmitter hunting? Answered

I wanted to know if anyone would be ableto make an instructable on how  to build a device for tracking radio signals, or a amateur radio directional finder (ARDF). my electrical skills are mediocre at best and i do not have the ability to buy a device like the HANDI-Finder, so an instructable will help a lot. the two picture are of the handi-finder device from www.handi-finder.com i dont understand it at all. i hope someone will know what to do with it.

Why to use RF directional couplers in some measurements and control processes ?

I am an electronic engineer in the field of RF directional couplers, but I am puzzled about this question, why to use RF directional couplers in some measurements and control processes ? Today I come to this forum to turn to you to discuss my understandings are appropriate. Here are my personal understandings: RF radio frequency is referred to as RF current, it is a high frequency AC change electromagnetic wave short. Less than 1000 times per second changes in alternating current called low frequency current, more than 10000 times called high frequency current, and radio frequency is such a high frequency current. RF technology in the field of wireless communications with a wide range of irreplaceable role. In the electronics theory, the current flows through the conductor, the conductor will form a magnetic field around; alternating current through the conductor, the conductor will form an alternating electromagnetic field, known as electromagnetic waves. When the electromagnetic wave frequency is lower than 100khz, the electromagnetic wave will be absorbed by the surface, can not form an effective transmission, but the electromagnetic wave frequency is higher than 100khz, the electromagnetic wave can be spread in the air, and the outer edge of the ionospheric reflection, the formation of long-distance transmission capacity (Analog or digital) with high-frequency current modulation (amplitude modulation or FM), the formation of radio frequency signals, through the antenna to launch into the air, the radio frequency of the high-frequency electromagnetic waves.  Long-range radio frequency signal received after the anti-modulation, reduced to the electrical information source, this process is called wireless transmission. Wireless transmission developed for nearly two hundred years, forming a large number of users and product groups, but because of climate change and the impact of surface obstacles, can not transmit the perfect information. Modern human invention of the cheap high-frequency transmission cable (radio frequency line), in order to pursue the perfect quality of information transmission, taking into account the original wireless devices, wireless cable transmission began to pop. Resulting in the concept of radio frequency transmission. If your information source through the secondary modulation, with the cable to the opposite end, the opposite side with anti-modulation of the information source after the re-application, no matter how low frequency, but also radio frequency transmission, if there is no modulation anti-modulation process, The information source is transmitted directly to the opposite end of the cable, no matter how high the frequency, are the general cable transmission. SI --- Signal Integrity Signal Integrity PI --- Power Integrity Power Integrity emc --- electromagnetic compatibility Electromagnetic Compatibility rf - radio frequency RF emc = emi + ems EMI = Conduction + Radiation Emission SI: The Fourier transform shows that the higher the signal rises, the higher the amplitude of the higher harmonics. The MAXWELL equations see that these alternating harmonics produce alternating current at the adjacent line. And even through the space parasitic capacitance directly to another conductor, so these high harmonics is caused by radiation interference (emission) of the main factors; (that the simple point is that the signal rise faster, the more complete the signal, the better the signal quality, But for emi bad) . PI: PCB exists on the number \ \ analog area, high frequency \ 'low frequency region and other different areas and planes, if the partition is not easy to interfere with each other, that is, conduction conduction (conduction). Ps: Excuse me if I was wrong in words or expressions as I am a green hand in the field of RF directional couplers. I need continual learnings. What is your idea ? Do you agree with my ideas ? handheld direction finder

Hi - I'm looking for a project to build a handheld direction finder.  I would think you could do this using radio frequency.  Basically, I'd like two parts: the finder and the findee.  The finder would indicated the direction to the findee and that's it.  Not sure exactly what you'd call that... Thanks!

shaft direction indicator?

Does anyone know an easy way to get/make a simple device to determine the direction of a spinning shaft?  It must give some logic (5V) signal, NOT encoded in any way.  Just +5 if CW or 0 if CCW (or backwards, or 3.3V, or whatever else, it doesn't really matter).  However, it must not A) require any digital controller (no arduino, ATtiny, PIC, computer, raspi, etc.) B) have an "encoded" output, or gray code C) have a large "dead band" where it still indicates CW but it's actually spun a tiny bit CW (or vis-versa).  Must be under 3-4 degrees D) require  the shaft to spin quickly E) be expensive.  This is a prototype for an ANALOG mill D.R.O., so I don't want to have to spend ten bucks on one part that I have to buy several of, plus the other parts.  Its a 1/4" threaded rod, but can easily be adapted to whatever else it needs to be.  The device needn't be small, and I will have a 3D printer avaliable (or at least a mill).

Distance and direction detector?

What I want to do is build a device that I can hold in my hand that will notify me (probably with an LED) if I am facing the object I want to find, and preferably how far away I am. I can't use IR because if something is between me and the object I still want to know if I'm facing it I'm not sure what method I would use but I want to build a device that consists of a transmitter and a handheld receiver, I would probably use radio, and the transmitter would have to be very small, (Keychain sized or smaller preferably).

An idea for highly directional and loud loudspeakers

I am currently playing around with vibration experiments.Mainly in the ultrasonic range though.But when messing around with some vibration speakers I found a not so well documented misuse for themEveryone wants a big TV these days but once you have it the sound often turns out to come from a tin can.Those with a good entertainment or at least stereo system won't mind hooking the to it.The rest usually opts for a sound bar or how I like to call them shredderbox.Sooner or later they just fail to produce the sound you had on the first day - or they cost a small fortune.What is the secret to a powerful speaker?Firstly efficiency.Secondly the design.You need the right material to produce a more or less even reaction at all intendet frequencies.The design makes sure those frequencies that need extra attention get more volume output, like by using a little pipe for the low frequencies.Some even include a dedicate speaker for these low volumes.What if you could just build you own soundbar on a budget?If you have a failing soundbar with the actual speakers as the problem you could salvage the electronics.In case you can make do with headphone input or RCA connections than any cheap amplifier will do.Leaves the speakers...Vibration speakers are still underestimated for their uses...I tried the the usual approach of using a glue on vibro speaker:Place it on surface tha gives a re more or less decent sound.The thing is though that there is no ideal surface for them.A table can sound like the highs are missing, a hardwood desk might not produce any low frequencies while a window or plaster board wall bring the problem of wiring and vibrations.To check the reactions of sound on different media I, one day, mounted one speaker under a big tin can.Right in the center.The fun hit me when my tests with water were over and tried to play a song with the empty can.Of course there was some degree of tin can sound but the directional qualities together with the wide frequency spectrum made me experiment.The key is to find the right material and shape!You want something that is hard enough to vibrate properly but soft enough to allow for lower frequencies.I tried pipes, boxes, old plastic containers....But nothing seemed to provide a broad and even sound spectrum without distortions.If you vibrate a surface then only at certain, resonant frequencies destinct patterns will form if some dust or similar is place on the surface.In all other cases there is only chaos.Preventing the harmonics to form prevents harmonic vibrations to build up to distortion levels.Like it or not but waste seems to work just fine as a speaker ;)I made a plug to fit reall tight into a 2 liter juice bottle neck.The original plastic cap is just too soft.A vibro speaker glued onto the plug and the bottom of the bottle cut out and the soun was quite impressive.Proper use is however limited as the speaker would need to be mounted upright.Next thought was to utilise the bottom of the bottle too.By cutting a round hole in the side of the bottle I got an even more directional speaker with a better response to low frequencies.Placement of said hole of course affect how certain frequencies travel and where nodes can form.The size might also matter as the hoe itself, or better the material around it can get resonant at certain frequencies.You can cheat at bit though by using sticky tape, duct tape and so on as dampening meterial in badly affected areas.Especially with a wall mount for the speaker and the bottle hanging down behind the TV the effect is good compared to a standard shredderbox. The above design is certainly not for everyone although I think it has a wow factor to it if you show a decent sound coming out of a juice bottle ;)My next step was trying to find out how more fancy designs could work.So just stop reading here unless you like the idea of creating speakers that should not even work.Back in the old days we had more than just the speakers with magnets and cones.Anything that can vibrate can produce sound.It all depends on how much of it we can actually hear.My first exotic idea to really misuse a vibro speaker is a vibrating harp.Does not need to be in the classic shape though.A string in a resonance box, like a harp, guitar, violine and so on will start to vibrate at the set note.This is true even if the force for the vibration is external.You might remember the old school experiment with the two pitch forks on their boxes?Hit one and the other starts to swing too.If you make a resonance box for a vibro speaker with internal or external wire strings at different tensions or lengths you can amplify the sound for the notes that correspond to the strings.Make a relatively large box with some sturdy wires for the frequencies between 60 and 100Hz and you have a really powerful subwoofer from just 20W of input power...I think you get the idea on how to use amplifying strings now ;)My second and total misuse is the xmas tree.If you are a sparky by old trades then you might remember the mechanical frequency meters for generators or other things that required a stable supply.Well, if not than you should know the little wind up toys that play a melody with a drum and tiny forks.Imagine you would replace the glue plate with a rod.Depending on material and length harmonic nodes will form at various places and frequencies.Between those nodes the swing is maximised while the node itself appear to be stationary and without and vibrations at all.For example a steel rod of 1.2m would have a single standing wave at about 1kHz while a copper rod of the same lenght will be much lower in the frequency for a single standing wave.The xmas tree assumes that the rod is of such material that no single standing wave can form below 200Hz and that it won't swing too much at other resonant frequencies.Since aluminium is easy to work with and available in flat and thin bars already it would be my first choice for the branches of the tree.The required length is calculate based on the speed of sound in aluminium - you find online calculators for that.You want the lenght so that you end up with an even fraction of the wavelength you want to "play" with that strip.This allows for the rod to be placed right in the center of the strip where the standing wave movement is zero in the node.Make a lot of thin strips to get a broad frequency response.Placement on the rod can now be crucial.The best option I found so far is using a threaded rod and tapping the holes in the strips.The strips swing quite violently if long and at certain frequencies.And those not in resonance will still transfer their momentum to other strips.This can cause unwanted harmonics.Most evident when a single strips swigns violently at a certain frequencies.Adjusting the angle by turning it is often enough to get out of the overlapping harmonics.With enough strips it then really looks like a tree with flat branches.The sound might not be as loud and impressive as a plastic bottle as the virations are going up and down.But if placed in the right spot it not just looks nice but also makes people wonder where the sound is coming from.Last but not least my yet to be tested hidden speaker system - due to renting restrictions :(If you own a house of the standard frame design then you have plasterboard walls and ceilings.With a large enough surface of the right material, one or two vibro speakers can cover a really wide frequency range at good volume levels.So far I could only do tests in an old wooden window frame but the priciple works the same way between the wooden frames of a wall or ceiling.In my experiments a standard plasterboard sheet needs to be 100 x 100cm to get a more or less decent response for the lower frequencies.Before you rip your walls down use a stud finder and place your vibro speaker on the plasterboard between two studs or beams.I found that two speakers for the lower frequencies and three or four for the higher ones make a good sound.That is per channel and if you have the right size plasterboard sheet in the right place.No point if your left side is further away from the TV than your right.Ideally you replace the entire sheet with the speaker in the right spot on the new sheet but on the back.For obvious reasons this is far from being a perfect solution.But if you plan a full renovation anyway...A way out for older houses is the wooden floorboards.They make excellent resonators for low frequencies.The directional speakers could then still be hidden in picture frames of the right thickness and design.Anyways, I hope I gave you some ideas here ;)

Reversing Direction of Power Tool

It would be nice to be able to reverse direction of angle grinder, mototool, and similar tools. Sparks may be flying toward ones face in certain positions. The tool also may also tend to kick due to wheel direction. These tools arent made to reverse. How can one change this?  How can one keep the wheel from unscrewing and flying loose once the motor is reversed?

Controlling servo direction with arduino Answered

So, I'm trying to control two servo motors for a robotic arm. I can't seem to figure out how to make two servos go opposite directions at the same time. This is needed as I have two servos facing opposite directions driving the same beam (If they're told to go the same direction, because they are facing opposite directions, they'll rotate opposite directions). Currently I'm using this code to rotate them both: for(pos = 0; pos < 180; pos += 1)    {                                    myservo.write(pos);                  delay(15);                        } and then using the same code, only replacing the top part with   for(pos = 180; pos>=1; pos-=1) to return to the original position. How do I make both servos go opposite directions though, so they can both be used to lift a beam at the same time?

Bi-Directional Led Sensing

Hello, I have been working on Bi-Directional Led sensing for a school project. I have managed to build a prototype with just 1LED and a processing sketch to visualize the input which works perfect. Also I built a version with 2 LEDs which is not as good as the previous one. I can get response from the both Leds but they are interfering with each other most of the time. I am using the built-in pulseIn function of the arduino to measure the time of the Leds go from LOW to HIGH. With just one led it is perfect, but when I add more then 1 LED, two or three LEDs , lets say, they go into a weird condition. If anyone have some experience with Bi-Directional Led sensing with more then 1 LED, I will be glad if you share. Thank You

Check out the optical illusion below. Since the figure is totally black, there's no depth- you can see her spinning either clockwise or counter-clockwise. Which way do you see it first? Try reversing the spin direction- moving your finger in a circular motion at the rate of rotation can help you reset. How easy is do you find it to swap perspective? Does it make your brain hurt?

Diffuse or direct bulb light for an area.

CFL AND DIRECT BOX QUESTION(s)?

This is a multi part question. 1. What normally fails on a CFL bulb? 2. If I scrap a good used transformer from a CFL will it work to build a direct box? I know it is pretty easy to buy a Jensen Trans or other brand new trans for a DI box but how many dead CFL bulbs do you see waiting to be reused or recycled? I would really like to reuse the tranny if possible. My understanding is that heat is causing a great number of the premature deaths in CFL bulbs. see images. Thanks AFF

Removing potentiometer and making a direct connection?

Want to remove those potentiometer ir order to attach a RsbryPie 3 heatsink to make the IC cool. IT'S a PAM8406,and on it's max load it's getting really hot. So have to apply a heatsink. So is there any​ way to remove those potentiometer and connect those line directly, i mean I'm newbie in this thing. So need some help, thanks in advance.

Basic single direction led chaser

Hello everybody. I am a newbies in this world and I am a bit lost. I want to make a project witch is a single direction led chaser. ( 6 led blinking one after another from one to six then start from the beginning over and over). I found plenty of larson scanner nightrider style but those are all bi-directional. Since I don't know much about it, I would need someone to tell me what hardware that I need and maybe a plan of the circuit. I will use 6  orange ultra-bright  5 mm led  VF: 2.1V- 2.5V    VR: 5V.  I would like to know what resistor that I have to use with this setup. I've read about a 4017 ship but I don't know if it is the one that I need for my project. I know I will need a lot of hardware that I don't know the name and that is why I need  help. It will be on a car so it need to be on 12V. I will have to make my schema on a PCB board 1 inch X 10 inches. It would be good if i can adjust the speed too. Since it will be a car blicker/flasher, I don't know if I need to use blinking led or if regular bright led will do. Sorry about my lack of knowledge(and my bad English), I am sure that I forget to mention a lot of detail so feel free to put me on the right track. Working SRv3 and Directional Mine Prototype

I haven't had the time to work on the SRv3 in a while so here is what I am thinking of doing. Let me know what you think. I want to release an ible on what I have built up to this point. Which by the way is a working shooting gun that shoots exactly how I want it to I just need the body, front, grip, stock, and bi pod to be designed and built. If you build what I present your SRv3 will shoot 500ft. What do you think? I want to make this gun a collaboration of design ideas so we can all build the gun as a community. Let me know if this sounds fun to you all. If so I'll post pics this weekend! 08/11/2013 Pics of both my working SRv3 and Directional Mine Prototype coming soon! Just a few fun stats of the two. The SRv3 has been recorded to shoot over 500ft and is extremely accurate. The Directional Mine launches 25+ K'nex green rods over 50ft in a nice spread pattern that can be activated by both trip wire and pull cord. Both are shooting great and are extremely fun to use! Xbee direct input - without arduino

Hello! I recently purchased two XBee Series 2 modules for a personal project. I did everything I wanted with the arduino connected directly to the sensor but I want to try remote signal processing. I want to connect an analog sensor (or digital) to one of the XBee's pins and with the other Xbee connected to an Arduino , where I want to process data from the sensor. All the examples found on the net are made with XBee Series 1 but I hope someone still managed and XBee Series 2. I would be interested configuration made ​​with x-ctu or terminal. Thank you!

16x16 LED panel direct control

Hi all, I got 10 LED panels of 16x16 LEDs each. Now I want to create a big modular display system with these and I'm also planning to post this on the instrucatbles website once I succeed. But I have some problems getting started. I spent alot of time reading all LED matrix related topics on the website here but none of the designs matches the fixed design I have on those panels. Instead of using some sort of multiplexing, 32 shift registers are used for 256 LEDs which means every LED has it's own shift register output. Put then again, I also find 3 buffer ICs on the panels and I have no idea where they are used for... Below the info I have now: 1 PANEL: - 16x16 yellow LEDs - 32x M74HC4094B1 8-bit shift registers - 3x 74HC125N Quad buffer/line register, 3 state Pictures: http://www.myalbum.com/Album=64MKOUJR First I want to work with only 1 panel and be able to control this by putting images on it. But for this I have to understand completely how the hardware is built up so I first want to create the schematic of 1 panel. Can somebody help me with this and get me started on the project? First goal: just control 1 panel with an AVR to put some text on it and let is scroll. Final goal: be able to connect multiple panels and configure the software accordingly to the panels used. Then use a PC to put images on the screen and maybe even create a live feed (webcam capture). For this maybe an FPGA should be used to have more processing power/memory. Can I reverse servo direction in Arduino?

On my robot, both servos move clockwise. Is there any way in the  Arduino Environment to reverse the direction of one, to make it move counter-clockwise?

Anyone know of the easiest way to make a permanent phone to phone direct line. As in a phone from the back shed to the house. I want to be able to pick up the phone in the house or shed and have it ring on the opposite phone. any idea's?

Google Jump/Re-direct &quot;Virus&quot; Help!!

Has anyone else had issues the last few days, with an Adware/Trojan which re-directs links and addresses? I have delt with them before yet this one seems particularly nasty. Not only does it re-direct every link in all search engines to random sites it also blocks many if not all sites associated with adware removal tools/tech support etc. Example: HJ this is not attainable to send techs logs. I can't get to my email because hotmail.com wont open. It begun as just a simple re-direct script but it seems the sites which I have been re-directed to are flooding my comp with ad-ware/fake virus removal tools/security warnings. One of the spawning virus's has managed to remove my "task bar" and "My computer" from the desktop. My comp is just spawning trojans and adware at the moment, every time I do a full scan there is atleast 40 more spawned by the time it is finished (15min). At the moment the only thing I have is Super Anti Spyware, which the guys there are obvious on this as their 15min updates seem to be catching the new creations... But I'm fighting a loosing battle here... I know it is probably beyond most here to help me, yet I was more interested to see if any one else has been affected, as the site that I can get to for tech assistant is flooded out with... "Another Google re-direct Virus Help!" in their forums... Google has to be PO'd about this one.

Electric Standing Desk Controller for Direct Control?

Does anyone know what the controller is for most of the electric standing desks? I have a Jarvis and it seems that it uses the same controller as the GeekDesk. The box appears to have an RJ11 serial connection that is not used in the desk operation, I am wondering if that is whats used to program the controller board, and if so perhaps I can enable direct serial control for setting desk heights from my pc. Has anyone tinkered with this by chance?

Whistling blade on wind direction weather vane

I have a propeller with four blades that acts as a wind direction weather vane. What I would like is for the propeller to make a whistling noise when it is rotated by the wind. Someone told me if I put a small hole or a slit in each of the blades it will make a whistling noisy which should change with wind speed. Can anyone tell me what size hole/slit I would need? Also at what angle would the slit have to be? Or can you tell me any other way to get a whistle from the blades when the wind is blowing? The blades are metal and about 200mm long (400mm overall diameter). Thanks for any help. Lou

A mechanism that moves in the opposite direction of the applied force?

I am building a camera rig, and I would like to be able to accomplish very fluid movements with it. I have seen all kinds of existing camera rigs, but they all seem relatively static in one way or another. Simple bi-directional movement is alright, but something capable of vertical, horizontal and rotational movement would be preferable. If you push downwards, the camera moves upwards - that kind of thing. Even a material that is semi-flexible would work, as a rod to attach the camera to that would provide some sort of resistance, and a position to snap back to. I'm not looking for the whole design, just a starting point if anyone has any ideas about something that already exists that sounds like what I'm saying.

run car radio direct from battery

Hi ppl, I'm new here,been looking and d.i.y.ing since i found it. I have a question for any1 that has done this b4. I have a car radio, I have a battery, I have speakers, I have a shed to put em in, but how do I connect a car radio direct to a 12v battery? I have wired old ghetto blasters up to it, blown em all up like, so this 1 HAS to work lol. Any help appreciated, but would love diagram lol. Thnx ppl.... P.S. I might also need to know how to wire up the speakers.....

Best Type and Source for Omni Directional Wheels?

I am currently in the process of compiling a shopping list for an omni directional robot a team and myself are planning to put together. For this, wheels that go both forward/backward and left/right are needed. From what I have found, there are two variations: Omni and Mecanum wheels. Due to our design, we will be needing Omni style wheels.  However, doing some research, I haven't been able to find much of a selection! So far, robotshop is the only website that actively stocks them, and they sell two brands/types, one being VEX.  Is there a generic name for these types of wheels? Where would I be able to find more/a different source for them? Why are they so expensive? If you've used an omni wheel, what type/brand was it, and what was your opinion on it? The big problem is, is that we need to mount the wheels onto 5mm stepper motor axles. Half of the wheels I found on robotshop had square bores, and the other half used an interchangeable hub, none supporting a 5mm axle. Any ideas as of what to do here? We would like to get four wheels, preferably for less than 50$.

Rotary switch w/ direction based contacts??

I'm looking for a specific type of switch... I believe that it must exist, but I have never seen it... I need a rotary switch, where each clockwise "click" (partial turn) makes one circuit momentarily, and each counter-clockwise turn makes a different momentary conection... example with two light bulbs ( L1 and L2 ) connected to each direction of travel, respectively: If you rotate the knob one "click" (say 15 degrees) clockwise, L1 flashes for a moment, as the knob is in motion. if you continue clockwise, L1 will flash at each "click". If you rotate the knob one "click" counter-clockwise, L2 flashes for a moment. if you continue counter-clockwise, L2 will flash at each "click". There is no center-point, so any clockwise travel corresponds to L1, and any counter-clockwise travel corresponds to L2. does anyone know where I could get a couple of these??

A new direction for "Total Views Count" group.

So the original purpose of this group has been made obsolete by the rather cool new update HQ have released. A user's total views are now displayed around their avatar meaning we can see up to date information by visiting our profiles. Now that there's no need to run a twice monthly script I was thinking that perhaps people would be interested in having their total views collected daily, then twice monthly I could release graphs for people tracking their daily increase. Similar to the /you/stats/ feature that HQ trialled briefly. I'd also be happy to continue giving patches for people reaching the views milestones we had for the group. Anyone interested in that? Or does anyone have any bright ideas that the data now available on profile pages could be used for? It's pretty trivial to scrape the data with Perl, and at 1 page load per group member it's much quicker and easier than the current script (which loads thousands of pages).

I am 16 and have been really feeling the calling to start a church, right now I am looking for a place to hold it whether or not I have to pay rent, though a free place would be nice if we were only meeting once a week. New LED lightbulbs shine light in all directions

GE is going to be releasing a new LED lightbulb early next year that shines light in all directions, like a normal bulb, instead of one direction like they do now. The bulb will use 9 watts and shine as much light as a 40-watt incandescent. It will also last for 17 years. The drawback is the cost, which will be $40-$50, but it does provide an efficient lighting option for those who don't like the light from CFLs. No word about the blades on the side, however.
