product advertisements disguised as instructables

I have come across a number of  instructables by people or groups selling a product or pushing for support for a particular product under development. Fair game, if they try to help to do something, but instead they preface their "problem solution" with the need to buy such and such piece of equipment. I have no problem with this approach, but sure wish such instructables  would be identified as "promotional instructables."  or at least be identified  at the beginning of the instructable as showing how this specific product is the answer to an identified intractable problem.

Instructable disguised as a product advertisement? Answered

All the steps explain how to use the product after purchase... I may be wrong, but, why is that even allowed here? It was also featured in the last Instructables Email that I got.... I just don't get it. Here's the instructable Additional Note: It seems that almost (if not) all, the ibles by that author are showing how to use the same "product" in another way. Doesn't that just open the door to every marketing department out there to get free product advertising??? (Seriously, think about all the ible's with Fitz's giving yet another use for the smart chop...)

"Meow", the joke that never gets noticed!

Okay, the joke I am going to be showing you is called "Meow".  It was invented by my brother in 8th grade, and it is absolutely hilarious! Oh, and by the by, you need to be able to keep a straight face for this joke, or it will not work.     So, the joke is very simple. You just insert a subtle "meow" into your sentence when you are talking to someone.  Example:     "Hey, man! How are you doing?"  "Oh, pretty good, meow."  "That's great."  "So, meow, umm, have you heard of the concert coming to town? meow."  "Yeah, I've heard of it."  "Are you going? meow."  "No, I can't."  "meow. Well, that sucks. meow. Well, I'm going to the concert. meow."  "Well, see you later, I have a bus to catch."  "Okay, meow. See you later!"      It really helps to make the pitch of the "meow"s to be the same as the sentence before or after.  My brother had to do a speech in front of the class, and he said "meow" FIFTY-TWO times in the the speech, and nobody noticed!

How can I fix a blackened chip on the edge of a decorative mirror?

When Browsing Instructables...

Every so often, when I browse the Ibles Website, I get prompted in a message box to download some antivirus Software. It is obviously not antivitus software, a virus in disguise, so I get out of the message screen as fast as possible. Is this an actual virus on Instructables?

misusing instructables

My husband and I caught this - https://www.instructables.com/id/10000-Fast-Bad-Credit-Personal-Loans-Easy-To-Q/ posted as an instructable and it is obviously an attempt to sneak an ad in as an instructable.  One of the reasons we love this site is because you aren't flooded with ads and we both suspect you'd appreciate being notified.  I'm sure you will see it addressed promptly.  Thank you.

Hello everybody. I've been quiet for a bit, busily building a computer program that can understand curse words, a ski game that takes in your head location for its tilt, and an alternative sense pathway through the back. But I have bigger news: In a month I'll be in California helping the good people at instructables, and hopefully building a few things that you will find interesting. This is a great community and I'm sure you'll be hearing a good deal from me in the near future. Yours in awesome. The instructaturn -lamedust (BG) This is me in disguise:

How to get a finished look on bare electronics by coating? Answered

Hello and thank you for the help. See image, forgive crude rendering... I'm going to to connect two USB females in order to hold two USB males. I want to disguise the ugly metal part which is usually inside the PC port with some sort of material. The only electronics involved might be bridging the females, but not a must if it will disturb the coating process (e.g. if heat is required). I'd appreciate a pointer, and thanks again for your help. Y.

My other cars a Jet !

I just wanted to say SOMEONE HAS TO MAKE ONE OF THESE :DAt first glance, this looks like a very well-to-do neighbourhood. One in which Formula One racing cars, private jets, speedboats and the kind of equipment that any fledgling rock band would be proud of are left lying around in the garage. In fact, these utterly realistic images are printed on plastic sheets which are stuck on garage doors - the latest craze for home owners who want to not so much keep up with, as totally freak out, the Joneses. The weather and fire-resistant prints are designed to disguise that boring, flaky, greying metalwork. Held in place by industrial strength Velcro, they are easy to change and virtually indestructible.Source

Hallowe'en competition - free idea for somebody.

I just had an idea for hallowe'en that I have neither the time nor the resources to do, but somebody else might. This would work best if your front door is some distance from the street, maybe with a creaky wooden porch to cross.Rig a fake wooden front door with a long inch-wide slot, top-to-bottom.Fill the slot in with a strip of something fragile (styrofoam? balsa? papier mache?). Maybe disguise the strip with smeared bloody hand-prints (especially round the door handle)Render a chainsaw "safe" (having never used a chainsaw, I don't know if this is possible - take the teeth off? replace the chain with a rubber belt?)When somebody rings the bell, start the chainsaw behind the door, give it a couple of revs and then cut through the fragile strip, laughing like a happy psycho. If the visitors are still there, stick one crazed eye up at the door and yell trick or treeeaaaat?Afterwards, mop the urine and faeces off your front step, replace the fragile strip, and settle back to wait for the next victim.

I need help with a wheelchair costume. Answered

This is not for an instructable,or the Halloween contest. I posted here becouse I thought people would see it. I am cross posting in Answers. Our church does Trunk N Treat for Halloween and with my husband being the pastor, we have to participate. We had been planning all year to go as Discworld Igor and Igorina but the committee decided that they wanted church members to either have fun or bible related costumes. My first idea was my wheelchair and my upper body as a flower and my head and back as a butterfly with my husband as a butterfly catcher. He did not like that idea. He came up with wearing pajamas and carrying large teddy bears and over sized bottles. Do you have any ideas on how I can disguise my chair as a playpen or crib or something else? Most of ya'll seem to be so creative. I can bake and cook but I do not have much creativity. Thank you for at least listening to me. eetzel This is a picture of me in my chair.

Sugru Build Night at MakeICT in Kansas

MakeICT participated in their first Instructables Build Night in July by making stuff with Sugru!  It turned out to be a lot of fun.  A couple people showed up with ideas.  A couple more people showed up without ideas, but they were quickly inspired by suggestions.  One guy who was at our space for the first time had used Sugru before and was willing to share best practices.  Sugru seems like a useful tool to keep around the makerspace, so thanks to Instructables for introducing it to us! Here are some of the Sugru projects our members worked on: Eyeglass repair by forming new nose pads DIY multimeter tweezer probes A universal tripod mount that works with any phone or tablet A mustache - for those times when you need to quickly disguise yourself We also had a member repairing a table-top gaming piece by forming a new base out of Sugru.  Another member used Sugru and recycled pieces of corrugated plastic (yard signs) to prototype a homeless shelter. Thanks to the Instructables team for the help in organizing these build nights! We look forward to participating in more.

How do i make extreme firecracker that will do REALLY BIG BOOM?

I found a store in nearby that selling fertilizers and stuff for pyrotechniks, So i dont think there will be a problem of getting the ingridients i need. I want it very very loud and i will explain it to you why: In israel, we celebrate purim by wearing custums and disguise and of course using firecrackers, you need to understand somthing, there is a "law", somthing "between the lines" that the more boom your firecracker made, the more respect it is! meaning the more you enjoy and love purim, so in purim, childrens (13+) and adults are going to buy firecrackers and try to "show off" to their friands that they celebrating purim and using firecrackers. As you guys understand I dont want it to fly, or makes colors , sing or dance. My plane and wish is that it will go BOOM, and i mean it, and the bigger Boom it makes, it's the better!! I already have expirience about making firecrackers and explosives so no worry about the safety thing. P.S sorry if it was too long, i just wanted to give you the prespective and the feeling of the most happy holiday in the jewish religion and colture :D

Electric Gramophone?

I've just had an idea for making an mp3 player disguised as an old gramophone, to be used as a set piece/source of music for busking. Problem is, I can't figure out how to pull off some of the details of making it... Heres the idea as it stands: Have an old gramophone that appears to be playing music from a record, but is actually playing music from an Mp3 player. I figure you could interrupt the signal from the needle to the amplifier without to much trouble, as you'd still need the needle there to make it move along the record as it 'plays'. It also shouldn't be too hard to hide a speaker in the trumpet or even embed it into the side of the gramophone. In an ideal world, it would also be great to have some general controls on the back, to select play lists and the like, and that's probably achievable my attaching it to a standard mp3 player. The tricky bit is that I want to get it to play when the needle is placed on the record, and stop when the record finishes, ultimately with a digital replica of the scratch sound that you get at the end of an old record. Does anyone have any ideas on how to go about this part? because I'm absolutely stumped... is it possible that the answer lies somewhere in using the movement of the needle-arm to complete a circuit while in certain positions? Any thoughts, help, ideas or suggestions would be appreciated :) .

Earthquake gives US man his hearing back

The earthquake that struck America's east coast yesterday was a blessing in disguise for a deaf man who somehow regained his hearing through the vent.Robert Valderzak has been in a bathington DC hospital since June after he lost his hearing when he fell over. Doctors believe it was as a result of fluid or issues ofthe bones within the ear. Until yesterday, he was employinga diffehirespeakerphone with a lightand an speakers to speak with people. His four youngsters were visiting him in hospital when the 5.8 magnitude quake struck. when It passed, he felt anythingdiffehireinside his head and knew he mayhear and talk again. "I said, you perceivemy hearing is back," Mr Balderzak told Fox News. "i will be able to listen to eachthing, individuals within the hallway." Dr Ross Fletcher, Chief of Staff on the Virginia Medical Centre, said he was pleased his patient is feeling better, despite the stdiversitycircumstances. "a fewpeople appear to be slightly frightened by it but he's delighted that this earthquake came along because soon after the development, he mayhear everything within the room very clearly," Dr Fletcher said. Mr Valderzak believes his hearing was a present from God.

I want to focus mainly on unarmed combat, followed by stick, staff and sword techniques and weapon throwing. The rest is stealth, to sneak into places without being detected. That should make me a basic ninja. Finally, after I'll know these, I will study the less important skills - the italic skills.  What I ask for help is, to give me a good DVD or a book that will teach me either parkour or Taijutsu(unarmed combat). Notes on Specific Laws - the First Law

First Law On the Instructables website, the use of correct spelling and grammar shall be a constant criterion. Note: Edited Law There are several reasons for using correct English in all of our work on this site, but the most important ones are: It shows that you have taken time over your project, put some effort in and are proud of it. Like a smooth finish is the sign of a careful craftsman, a well-formed sentence is a sign of an Instructable that is worth trying. Clarity - the use of poor grammar or spelling can completely mangle or disguise the meaning of a piece of work, causing problems and wasting time as readers seek clarification. Inclusiveness - Whilst it may be cool to use the most current street slang or message-board abbreviations, there are those (myself included) who do not move in the internet circles where these terms originate. Excluding part of the membership by making the slang impenetrable also cuts you off from a deep well of information and advice. Time - slang dates, and changes rapidly. For instance, the word "gay" originally meant "carefree", then "happy", then "homosexual". Now, to the pupils at my school, it means "annoying" or "sad". Imagine what your latest slang could mean to future generations of readers. The web is a multi-lingual place. It would be conceited of us to assume that all readers speak English as their first, or even their second languages. There are a growing number of members and casual readers that rely on translation software to read this site. Translation software cannot deal with poor spelling or new abbreviations, and will render our words as gibberish.

Mini Weapons of Mass Destruction 2

Toy inventor John Austin released Mini Weapons of Mass Destruction 2 (Chicago Review Press) this past October. This awesome sequel to the Mini Weapons series includes over 30 new mini weapons with which to terrorize your office with. Here's an excerpt from the press release: "All the projects in Mini Weapons of Mass Destruction 2 are built from inexpensive, commonly kept items: binder clips, playing cards, rubber bands, markers, clothespins and discarded packaging materials. The projects - modeled after real-life gadgetry - range from "sidearms" and "weapons in disguise" to "villain mini weapons" and "surveillance and intel" and cost mere pennies to assemble. This easy-to-follow primer also features plans to construct periscopes, bionic ears, grappling hooks and code wheels. plus, each project includes a supply and tool list, italicized safety tips and step-by-step instructions supplemented by clearly marked, illustrative diagrams" I managed to get my hands on a copy and made the Grappling Hook Gun; the project was easy to follow and my project came together in under 30 minutes (including the time it took to snap a few pictures). My grappling hook went about 20 feet and I'm sure it could travel further with a few minor tweaks! So if you're reading this while sitting bored at your desk, take a look around you. If you're surrounded by un-used rubber bands, pen caps, and markers, perhaps it's time for you to assemble your own office supply arsenal! For Authors outside Canada, USA, UK and Australia The first 3 comments left here with a picture of your own version of an office supplies mini weapon of any type will receive a free copy of this book! All books have been claimed!

Movie Question / discussion: the new Sherlock Holmes (2009) (possible spoiler alert if you intend on seeing it)

Mostly I am wondering what  you all thought of the movie (those that have had the pleasure of seeing it, of course). Some things I found interesting/disturbing/unsettling/perplexing: The movie is either set in a time period where Holmes is much younger then is portrayed in the original series, or he has been "remade" into a younger character. I noticed that NO mention, nor even hint of Holmes'  "opium" use  (his greatest vice) was in the movie.  However,  there is a reference to cocaine (even if not "by name" early in the movie - i.e. "liquid that Holmes was "drinking", Watson refers to its use in eye surgery). As true to the books,  Holmes refers to his form of reasoning (incorrectly) as "deductive", and does so when speaking to Dr. Watson also.  The correct "label" for this type of reasoning is "inductive". My life partner and wife found it difficult to follow a story line that kept recursing on itself:  In several  scenes, Holmes describes how he was going to accomplish something (taking down an opponent, for instance) and they would show what he was describing;  then they would show it actually happening.   A few scenes recursed from different perspectives (one example:  when Irene leaves Holmes' residence for the first time after making her first "proposal" to Holmes, is shown getting into a carriage and a beggar stumbling into the scene;  moments later, the scene is shown again, this time from HOLMES' perspective, what happened (when He disguises himself as a beggar) . I do not remember reading in the books and short stories much about Watson's wife, although, brief mentions here and there are made (in the books and short stories) they are almost all contradictory in nature. I thought his "inability to always remain focused" and able to sort out the "information overload" quite intriguing .

How do I make Electroluminescent Fabric respond to sound?

Hey guys,  Been planning out a little project to do in my spare time that I'm hoping to have completed by Halloween this year (lot's of time for trial and error). I'm planning on making a set of Tron Legacy suits with some slight modifications. I've gone through all the tutorials regarding this particular project on Instructables and I'm mixing and matching methodologies and stuff. It's just this one thing that I'm trying to figure out that I really need help on. Everything is still in the planning phase so I'm pretty open to any suggestions on how to go about the whole design. Now, I've gotten that people use Electroluminescent wire/tape/strips for most of these projects. M friend and I are planning on importing some EL Fabric for our purposes.  What's going to be different about our projects is that I'm planning on making some of the EL patterns on the suit sound reactive. I had built a couple of speakers in the past that I want to incorporate into the design. Probably going to mount them on the back and disguise them as Disc holders. The idea is to have the speakers play some music which the entire suit is supposed to light up and pulsate to. My problem is that I'm importing some EL Fabrics that are not sound reactive and I'm not to sure as to how to modify them to be so. Furthermore, my friend who's making this with me, wants the lights to go off in sequence or according to some pattern. Basically, she wants us to be walking light shows, something which I am at a complete loss at how to accomplish. Can anyone point me in the right direction as to how to go about this exactly? The essential thing here is getting the lights from the EL fabrics to go off according to the sound playing in some organized aesthetic pattern.  Thanks in advance, guys.

Camoflauged Cage

Hey, I'm guessing this isn't a problem something that is only troublesome to me. You see, I am not allowed any pets, but you know, I am planning on adopting a couple of rats. (yea rats!) I need to make a cage which is hidden/camoflauged. It will already slightly be hidden and I'm sure I can arrange furniture in a way to conceal further. The cage needs to have air flow freely, made of plastic or coated metal, have a way to easily clean it, and it has to be escape proof! (no wire floors though, how ghastly) The rats I will aquire will be babies, about 4 weeks old. If they are males they'll get to be about 2 pounds and about three feet (including that wonderful tail xD) In a year. I live in an efficiency apartment, so I can't hide them in a closet (and if you ever seen a rat reaching out to grab the rapidly diaspearing light you wouldn't want to anyway) My best bet is "walling" off my room (which has the only bathroom) with a curtain, rearranging the furniture, and of course have a clever disguise! My first attempt (I was merely fostering these guys, their owner got evicted) was a storage drawer bin, I sawed off the back of the first drawer (and was planning on expanding throughout the set) and stapled in chicken wire to help with airflow. The fact that it was a mostly plastic drawer made it easy to remove and hose down quickly. I also sawed a little hole to hold up their water bottle which is an absolute MUST. They will knock over water bowls, sit in it, and most crazy of all, stuff bedding in it to absorb it. The main problem with this set up is that of course, you can see through it and see the little guys running amuk. I placed a blanket halfway covering the front and covering the sides, but Jackie decided that he was bored and pulled it all in, thusly exposing him and getting him caught `_` It lasted 2 months and I got them into a new home anyway. So! I'm sure I'm not the only one who has to hide a pet/pets dwelling! Does anyone have ideas??

Scholarship robot idea: sound explorer/collector

I'm a wildlife biologist currently between jobs, so my budget for new cool gear like the iRobot Create is pretty much nil. But I have an idea for using the Create as a prototype platform for a field-usable device. Previous work has established the utility of robotics in obtaining data concerning wildlife behavior (e.g., Patricelli, G. L., J. A. C. Uy, et al. (2006). "Interactive signaling during mate choice in the Satin Bowerbird: an experimental test using robotic females." Journal of Ornithology 147(5): 12-12.) My background has included electrical engineering, computer programming, and bioacoustics. What I would be interested in trying my hand at is using the iRobot Create to set up an autonomous robot to localize sound, orient toward it, approach, and obtain sound recordings. I believe that this an achievable project in the contest timeframe. I already have microphones and amplifiers suitable for the project. I can either use three or more in a planar array to use time-of-arrival for sound localization, or use material to make each sensor directional and calculate heading from amplitude differences. In any case, the sound sensors would be used to obtain heading information for the robot. Acoustics boils down to a simple dictum: get a good microphone close to your subject. In this case, a robotic platform stands a much better chance of approaching wildlife without causing the sort of disturbance the presence of a human observer usually makes. While the Create platform itself may not be suitable for field deployment, I think that it would make a good prototype for lab testing of the concept. In that light, I will probably use a voice recorder as a lightweight recording system that will only require two actuators to have the robot operate it. There are some additional considerations that I will need to explore, such as figuring out how to determine closeness of approach. This would eventually need to be based upon calculations of whether the robot is at the boundary of far and near-fields of an acoustic source at the highest frequency of interest. That would maximize the sound amplitude at the recorder without the interference that is the defining characteristic of the near-field regime. If the prototype works well, there are further ideas that could go into a field robot system. One would be to have the robot localize a source and conduct a survey, carrying a GPS mapping system while taking sound recordings with a calibrated sound recording system. This would be useful to characterize sound propagation properties of the animal's emitted sound. As in Patricelli's work, the field system could be disguised as a conspecific, or at least a species that is likely to be considered "harmless" by the subject.

"Re-inventing The Wheel"

Say hello to Mr.T.  He is old, simple, and there is really nothing special about him.  However, Mr.T is a sneaky little feller.  He likes putting on clever disguises like iron sights and stocks and even removable magazines to make people think that he is special.  But he isn't.  He's been around for years now, and for some reason, can't accept that his time is done.  As a community, we are going to get rid of Mr.T. I hope you found that funny, but more importantly, I hope that you took it seriously.  No, I am not talking about the guy who played Clubber Lang in the third rocky.  I am talking about the K'nex gun that has been built and posted thousands of times, and makes the rest of the Instructables community hate K'nex gun builders.  At this point, pretty much any search done on this site will result in at least one K'nex gun.  What is worse?  They are all the same.  The "T" format is the most simple, most redundant approach to building a K'nex aside from the now heavily discriminated block trigger guns.  They involve three things: 1.  A vertical magazine 2.  A firing ram 3.  A trigger Any gun that requires only these three components to operate is, in my opinion, pointless.  Despite cosmetic features such as stocks and iron sights, all "T" format guns are exactly the same.  Yes, they do work, and some of them even work very well, but at this point, improvement will only occur with change, not with repetition.    Compared to a few years ago, this K'nex community is dwindling on the edge of a cliff.  Many people have lost interest because nothing new was being made, so they just quit.  I do not support this decision, but I cannot blame them either.  Like many of the other "veterans" on this site, I have been on and off, but have never officially quit.  Sometimes one just needs to think.   Hopefully by now, I have made it clear: not another Mr.T should be posted ever again.  They are great guns for those learning the ropes.  That is about it.  There are so many other options out there.  Horizontal magazines, pump systems, lever systems, bolt systems, and so many more.  Make up your own system!  Combine different systems!  There are millions, maybe billions of different ways to put a thousand K'nex together, so why limit yourself.  You are all builders, which means that you see things in your head before you make it.  But sometimes these ideas come to us in inopportune times, so what do you do?  Write it down.  Even if your drawing skills are as pathetic as mine, just scribble it out so you can make sense of it, and then refine it later with a ruler.  Then get to work on it. So, here are the steps you can take to advance this community: 1.  Stop posting Mr.T!!!  He can be a good teacher, but that is about all. 2.  Be different!  My goal when I entered this community was to make guns that nobody has ever made.  No two of my guns are similar, nor are my guns like any others out there.  You have millions of options.  Make use of them! 3.  If you have an idea, write it down!  Even if it seems absurd, I guarantee that it, even if it only be small parts of it, will improve your building skill. I really hope this has made you want to make something different. Not much more I can say.  Just go do it. Oblivitus and TheDunkis have started building a database of different gun elements and different ways of approaching them.  Check it out and feel free to contribute!   http://knexbuilding.wikispaces.com/

Recently I noticed that one my Emails accounts got some unwanted attention. Both in the standard folder as well as in the provided spam folder I started to collect Emails. And I don't always mean from senders I knew or webistes I am registered with.My usual approach is to just delete what comes from unkown senders or has a suspicious feeling to it.So no winner got it all crap, no offers, no invitations...A few however seemd to originate from some well known "things on the web" - and some of them I am registered with and get ads, offers and such.Sadly that resulted in some Emails being looked at and then discarded anyways.I kept deleting those unwanted mails without opening them for a few days. They they magically changed ;)Websites I used and especially those that require login details appeared as senders.Nothing with any vital info in the preview but also no real activity from my end on those websites. Then I made some impulsive buys on Ebay :(On top of the usual Emails I also got some "reminders" and "seller offers" added.Never happened before and certainly not activated in my Ebay account as feature. And unlike real Emails from Ebay there was my account name missing.Instead a conviently placed and highlighted shortcut button to "You account login" was provided.Ok, fake, forwared to Ebays spam team and quickly confirmed as spam.Moved and only hours later I got more Emails with similar tempting offers as buttons to confirm something that requires me to login. And now from websites or services I actually logged in to this day.The wise donkey said: You have something on your computer that shouldn't be there!Reboot from a CD to have the hard drives checked for malware - negative captain :(Ok then must be something within Windows, time to use a system restor point for a few weeks ago.Again nope...So I used a different browser and quite few websites and services that require my login details. No new Emails... with those websites.Kept using this brwoser for a few days and only stuff I already had cam again a few times but overall far less spam mails.Used the standard browser for a few hours with some login requirements and within a day I had corresponding Emails for a few of them.Found several bad tracking cookies in my browser.Bad in terms of redirecting all visited IP addresses to some addresses I can't even find.Deleted all cookies as well as the browser history.Reboot...A closer look at those suspicious Emails revealed that some include a thing similar to the old single pixel tracker. If you open them and not otherwise prevented it will result in some webservice knowing you actually opened the Email.Together of course with your Email address. The headers were good fakes too so the real sender is properly disguised. Those bottons and links mostly went to websites my browser protection already knows and prevents. Some however did not.In a sandboxed browser I was able to get onto some more or less convincing copies or the originals websites login page. The addressbar always started with originals name but then had a lot of cryptic stuff added to it.Sandbox blocked all what would otherwise make it throughcame through but the browser was rendered useless in the sandbox after I "logged in".Did another check and confirmed that all links buttons and such on that "infected" website also cause the same browser crash.Only difference was that only WITH something typed into the login field the browser tried to establish a new outgoing connection before getting dusted. Conclusions:The malicious Email provides the IP address used. Most if not all links within such an Email end on malicious websites. Some, especially at the beginning don't!!Instead the links go to websites that use cookies and other stuff normal protection mechanisms overlook.Somewhere between opening the link and closing it or the browser a change is made.Either you get a popup windows looking like some advertisement or when you start your browser the next time you see some website added that was not there before. The spammer now know you actually bothered enough to follow at least of the faked links provided in the Emails. The added bonus tracker provides ongoing supplies of websites you visit.A lot still use things in the address bar that identify them as a login page, even if it just starting with HTTPS.Popular websites and services get faked copies on servers in the dark web or at least outside normal DNS services. Now the spammer adds more and more Emails faking things you login to when using a browser for it.Until now nothing too bad or irriversible happend. But get fooled and actually click on a link in one of the new spam mails and it might be over.In the "best outcome" you would be locked out of your browser and have to delete it in safe mode or attempt a manual removal of the hijacker.A bit worse is if your protection started to fail and instead of the hijacke you end up with something manipulating your system.Really bad would be if you end on faked login website, and safety fails until you are locked out from your own system.Don't know what Email you might get after that and what demands to fix your system...However it gets worse: Like the one before but when enter your credentials and hit the login button the website jumps to some random Youtube clip or Goole search page.In case you wonder: You just gave the spammer your personal login details for said webiste or service....Most "deadly" would be if you end on more than just one like that.Every single one give the spammer a new login that you might pay for or that includes even more senstive data.Having to format and re-install all sudden is a thing of far too late then.I do not know if there was an Email I clicked on first, an infected advertisement or even some leaked Email addresses including my own on the internet for sale. All I know for sure is that those tracking options in the malicious Emails correspond to tracking stuff in the browser. No virus, no real malware until you click on the wrong stuff.Anything to prevent this from happening?Whatever you do: Do not use anything that requires the internet! - Just kidding!! Relax...1: Never click on anything inside mails from sources you don't fully trust! If in doubt copy and paste the link into an editor and check if it identical to the real address! Usually you would find some random stuff after the dot of the address name where you would other wise see .COM or .COM.AU.2. In case you ended on some spam or fake looking website anyways you should delete the cookies and browser history. The history might not be required though.3. Best would of course be to only allow known and trusted cookies or to not use any that survive a restart of the browser.4. Very important! If you start to get those Email very shortly after using it to create an account for something on the web then please provide the website you registered at with that Email address !!!5. If you get faked Emails for things you are actually registered with then please consider to imform the admins or support of this website about it. You might not have clicked on it but some user there might if nobody places a warning ;)What if all went to a total failure?I assume why you made that backup of all vital data and kept it updated? Also how install your operating system, in my case Windows, again.A hijack is easy, a fully infected or even encrypted system not.

Free Energy - Am I insane or is it time to wake up?

Some might have noticed that I started a few, lets say, unconventional topics here.I added one just as a response to some very nasty feedback I got in other places. If you wonder what I am talking about check my topics about all things related to magnetism, "free energy" and such nonsense. The feedback I got was directed personal enough and verbal enough that I decided to increase my speed of seeding bread crumbs that might allow other people to "see" things slightly differently.Being called insane and mental case is the only things I use here as most of the rest would qualify as insults of the worst kind. The goal that was claimed I totally missed is to make people open up.Science or knowledge is as fluent as life itself. It eveloves with us, around us and through us.But we learned to use technology mostly to replace humans and to make our life easier. With that laziness also a reduced "desire" for knowledge and understand evolved. It is now far easier to "Google it" and forget it right after than to acutally learn and really understand something.A prime example is the disappearing artform of creating Japanese swords. No industrial process can produce a steel as pure and with such properties as used to be "offered" to the master swordsmith. Both are highly specialsed and rely on each other to create the perfect sword that outlasts generations.Once tradition gives way to modern life even this art will become a lost artform. We lost so much already, be it species, health, enviroment or just a "clean planet".Instead of accepting nature back into our scientific thinking and understanding we will continue to fail and get even more reluctant to learn new things. The blockbusters of science are no longer finding new laws of phsics or trying to understand things. We try to go further and further and use more and more dangerous ways to "create" the energy we continue to use more and more with no regrets.Well, other than complaining about the bills for it, which we wouldn't have otherwise...Why do we need more forms of colliding atoms to create energy? No because we need so much, only because we want more and more and at "centralised" locations.Distribution, control, money...Allowing us to use solar panels to reduce our electricity bill is nice, but try to overdo it and make good money by creating you own solar panel park and you get into trouble already. You can't see it anywhere other then back to your provider. And you only get whatever he thinks is a fair price for it, usually far less than what you pay to get it.Once you reach zero some even won't pay you money at all.And since there is always winter and night times it is only good that there will be always a need for electricity from the grid.Just try to get rid of your elecricity, water and gas connection in a township or city in case you found other sources you get for free.....Even if you build new most won't even allow you to without these "required" connections. If you need waste waster you also need tap water you pay for.And since a waste water treatment is no longer hyginic enough (despite proving the opposite) you can't get out.Gas you might be able to avoid but if there is electricity in the stree than it is already a building requirement to provie to the builder...What if all this nonsense and fakery actually has a true background somewhere?Humans are not meant to fly but we developed planes anyways. What once was a dream for a select few is now the prefered travel mode ofr most going on a far away holiday. But it is only so popular because there is a big demand. And where is demand profit can be made.Like a farmer:If you have ton of corn like twenty farmers around you then your local price will be low.Sell them a bit further away and you might get a lot more.In return our demand is closly related to the demands of those that provide the source of your demands. We all need energy and we evolve into a society that will need more of with every new generation.I try to give you hint in the form of a comparison:If you have a nice man cave and love to tinker than you might have a framed hand drill on the wall to remind you of how it all started for your grandfather.Or in most case you just liked it and got it for 2 bucks from a garage sale LOLEither, imagine all electricity would be gone and lost forever.Suddenly this crappy drill becomes a status symbol because only you can do things other people really struggle with - you drill holes with ease...Imagine the rpice you could ask to sell it..."Free energy" is the same but sadly in reverse. If a company sees a profit than it will be utilised some way.And if it happens that energy is your main income and keeps you rich and in control than you don't mind paying two or three fortunes to someone so he can forget and is happy give you his machine.Or would you really say no to life of no limits and with nothing to worry for your future generations of kids and grandkids?A few tried anyway to make a furtune themself by keeping a circle of trusted persons and finding enough willing investors to get their project going.Even if you can find some flaws there are still doubts about what someone would go through the lenght of providing online updates, sales numbers, testimonials and so on for years.Funny enough actually finding someone who is sceptic and make him check and report about it does not work either. No big university orders one or asks to really check it and provide a real world testimonial. No government or legal agency steps in to stop the "fraud" either. What is real, what is fake, what is disguise - you can figure it out if you want to.Ok, I could, but why bother if litereally everyone one already did and showed nothing works when it comes to the great unknown?Exactly for that reason alone it is worth it!People might make money now from ads or through clickbait but the topic is older than the internet already. And the proof even older than electricity...So many people would not try unless someone convinced them to try it ;)Might be just a bad joke but gets the point:If you ask 20 people if you can swim through the river to get to the other side then you might get confusing answers.1. No problem it is safe.Fully true but the guy might be from far up the river where it has no crocodiles in it...2. You could try it but a boat is safer as there might be corcodiles here.Still leaves you the option to swim as you can't be sure about the reptiles...You could go on and create a near endless list with bridges up ahead and so on.What it comes to is that depending on HOW you ask and WHO you ask the answers can be as different as day and night. In terms of science and making someone understand it take the most basic approach possible.Remember that time in school when your math teacher confronted you the existence of negative numbers? The confusion with the zero and how to add, subtract or multiply...Your teacher might have been great or you a quick learner but imagine the worst possible way to teach you an understanding of negative numbers! You know that 5 - 8 equals -3.You learned that this is true and why it is so.Imagine your teacher would have explained this extra simple like back with the apples when learning to add numbers."If there are 5 people in a room and 8 people leave the room, then 3 people must go back in so that room is empty!"Makes total sense if you expand the number game from above to 5 - 8 + 3 = 0 !!No sense at all however if you do it with people ;)People are not numbers, pressures or volumes, they are "real" to us.We associate certain things automatically, other we learn to associate and interpret through learning.Learning however is no longer actually doing all that would be involved in less technological world. We like magic tricks because we fail to understand how it is done or sometimes even how it is possible.Today it is for entertainment only.A true magician would never use his skills to scam people. But spend enough and research and you can do the same trick you saw on stage. Some not as good or not all though - thats life...Ask a good magician how how long it took him to get his new trick ready for the stage and quite often you get to hear it was years in the making.Think about that fact when you judge what is possible by dedication ;)

"Knex War?" (The Math Bit)

Hey guy! Sharir1701 here and I just want to start off by saying that I'm not back into Knex warfare, but I have something to show you. About a year and a half ago, I posted this forum topic. There I explained why, in my opinion, just adding more rubber bands to a gun will not actually produce an overall better gun (past a certain, low point). I'm not getting back into that discussion, but I simply wanted to share something regarding that. Don't ask me how or why (I don't know, myself), but a few days ago I suddenly remembered that old assumption I made. Being a perfectionist, I hate leaving things unfinished or unexplained (particularly math and physics related inquiries). Back when I posted that topic, I had little to no formal Physics knowledge, and the beginnings of an understanding in mathematics. Now, I have a much broader understanding, much more knowledge, and an ability to explain and evaluate what I once couldn't. Anyway, what I'm trying to say is, back then, I didn't have the tools to prove my claims. I firmly believed in them, but I couldn't confirm them. It's nothing complicated, but, like I said, just something I'd like to share. I also want to point out that, although I personally don't enjoy spending days upon days perfecting a little plastic mechanism for firing (mostly) non-aerodynamic plastic projectiles, anymore, there still is a warm spot in my heart for the craft I once loved. More to the point - this is a small article just showing something I did in a few minutes the other day, that helps me to better understand how a Knex gun works. I hope that in writing this, more people that are still building guns, will think about more accurately calculating certain things about their guns to help improve their performance and hopefully produce more efficient guns. The final note I have is that I'm about to show you equations, all of which can be plugged with real, measurable numbers, to calculate to a high degree of accuracy, the forces at play. This means you can actually calculate the most efficient layout for a gun, and also that in designing your next, you will be able to use these equations, and many others, to find optimal solutions to your problems. So, what's all this fuss about? Well, basically, I just proved with a few, painfully easy equations that my conjecture about the forces in a gun, working on the pin, is true. I'll just get to it: First, Hooke's Law states that the force necessary to change the length of a spring or a (tense) rubber band is F=K*dX, where F is the force, dX is the distance you want to change, and K is a constant number, that each rubber band (or spring) has. You can quite easily measure both of these. For rubber bands connected parallel to each other (assuming they are the same type of rubber band, which ever is your chosen standard), this equation becomes F=K*dX*N, where N is the number of rubber bands used. dX and K are both constant in the regards of the pull of a pin on a standard Knex pin gun. Therefor, the amount of force required to cock a pin (pull it back to it's full length) is linearly correlated to the number of bands you put on your gun. Next, if we examine Newton's equation of work and energy, W=dE=F*dX, where W is the work, dE is the change in energy in your system (input from an external force, i.e. your hand), F is the force applied along a length of movement, and dX is that length. Let us define the base position of the pin (not cocked, minimum tension on the rubber bands, fully in the barrel, etc.) as having 0 energy. This then means that the work applied to the pin by cocking it is equal to all the potential energy it has. From this, plugging in the force, we get Ep=K*(dX)^2*N. Let us assume a perfect world, where we neglect the effects of friction and air resistance, and assume all the momentum of the pin is transferred into the bullet as it fires (I will briefly mention in the end, why everything we're neglecting here just strengthens my claim in reality, but let's continue for now). After being released (in other words, shot), the maximum velocity the pin reaches right before the end of it's journey can be found using the equation for kinetic energy Ek=1/2*M*(Vmax)^2, using the fact that (again, neglecting energy wasted as heat due to friction) the energy is conserved, as no external force is working on the system, which then means that Ep,start=Ek,end => K*(dX)^2*N=1/2*M*(Vmax)^2 => Vmax = sqrt(2*K*(dX)^2/M) * sqrt(N). The first sqrt term in the final equation is all one big constant (again, K is the ratio associated with the rubber band, dX is the distance the pin travels, and M is the mass of the pin), meaning we can conclude that (C for constant) Vmax=C*sqrt(N). Finally, force applied by a moving, massive object can be calculated using Newton's second law, F=dP/dT (P is the pin's momentum, T is the time it takes for the pin to go from velocity Vmax to 0, transferring all it's energy into the gun and the bullet, but as I said, let us assume all of it goes into the bullet), or F=M*dV/dT (M, mass of the pin, dV is the difference in velocity, Vmax-0, which is simply Vmax. This is because P=M*V, which means dP=M*dV, ignoring relativity). So, F=M*C/dT*sqrt(N). The time varies slightly, but insignificantly, so let us assume it is a constant. So that's it. The force exerted by the pin on the bullet is some constant (calculatable, as mentioned and as shown), times the sqrt of N, the number of rubber bands on the gun. So there you go. Just a little something I did out of the blue the other day and thought I would share a proof of my conjecture from what feels like eons ago. I hope you enjoyed. Finally, I would like to tell you guys, perhaps as a little tease, since I'm not sure if I will ever upload it, but I have made 1 more gun after I stopped posting. I have already slightly teased about it in my user info. I guess I'll tell you guys what it is if I'm already posting something here again :) Possibly my most enjoyable, most well received, and quite innovative gun of all time? The REMPAR-2. I built the REMPAR-3 (I was also going to call it S5 when I thought about posting it). In a brief summary, it's a pump action, chambering (or bolt action as I and many others falsely used to call it), magazine fed rifle, that's only 5 layers thick all over, except one tiny area where it's 8 layers thick (1.5 extra on either side), as a reinforcement, not necessary if you use less rubber bands. Oh, actually, there's another small necessary area where it's 7 layers thick, but it's tiny and doesn't make the gun look bulky at all, and who cares. Plus, the one is around the pump, which looks quite natural, and the other is "disguised" as a detachable sight (not really detachable) that also looks fine. It also looked fairly good for a gun that I made, it used (if I remember correctly) a grand total of 0 broken pieces, which is a big accomplishment for me (the mag has some broken white rods, but fuck off), and it worked flawlessly, reaching ranges over 80ft and being able to go at 2-4 rounds per second, depending on your skill level with it. In other words, I could shoot 4rps; My girlfriend, with no experience or practice, could do 2rps, which says something about the gun's comfortability and ease of use in my opinion. It shot blue rods up to an accuracy of about 5x5cm (2x2in) over 30ft, which is amazing for a Knex gun, and it was truly super comfortable. It wasn't even long at all, which is saying a lot, looking at some other people's attempts at 5-wide pump actions (I may also be guilty of an attempt several years ago). Being quite short and only 5 wide, it is also quite light. I'm sorry, I just really liked this gun, I think it was truly my best creation ever (of course, the S3 is by far the most innovative gun I've made, but it's mostly a concept gun, not meant for real effectiveness). I may post it in the future, but I'll make no promises. I suppose I won't leave you guys completely hanging and take a picture of it. Oh yes, there's also a neat, fun little thing I did, originally because I saw no other option, but then I actually really loved it. I'm talking about the mag-lock. It locks automatically (there's a band on it, but it ripped a long time ago, so...) and the mag cannot fall out. Then you pull on it with your middle finger, similar to a trigger, and the mag just drops right out. Love it :)
