The top and bottom of the screen are completely jumbled up and unusable. I also can't view images. The thumbnails are there, but the larger photos wont show anymore.

I have a Gill ultrasonic wind gauge which transmits data intermittently (after each race) showing the actual windspeed -9.9 to +9.9 range It outputs the data at 9800/7/even/1 the data is in a series of bytes with the data in the middle of the series I dont know what the other bytes are for I want to display the data automatically in a LED (segment) display, the display changing each time the gauge transmits new data will an 'ordinary'LED controller allow me to do this? thanks david cooke

As a member of the Chelmsford & District MRC we are in the middle of building a new O gauge layout, as part of the we wish to make a digital LED display of four digits. This display is intended to display the DCC identification of the next train ready to leave the fiddling yard. We the members are well passed retirement age when schooling was before the days of electronics so we ask. Can any body help us with a design and component list of such device. All the components are readily available here in the UK. Basically we are looking to be able to input the number either by a simple key pad or four rotary switches please contact me should anybody need further information. Norman Young email@example.com

I am not good at designing electronics. Could someone point me in the direction of a suitable circuit to do this... I have a device with a backlight on an led display, the backlight is normally on but can be switched off sometimes the backlight flashes to alert the user. on for 1 sec, off for 1 sec approx. I want to add a circuit to it without changing the existing circuitry when the backlight comes on I want a buzzer to sound for 1/2 sec if the backlight is on then nothing happens, nor should it buzz when the light goes off. So: 1. switch on device, backlight comes on, Buzz 2. backlight is on for length of time but no buzzing 3. backlight starts flashing 4. goes off, No buzz 5. goes on, Buzz 6. repeat from 4 until the backlight stays on this circuit and buzzer is going to have to be very compact to fit in the device. I might substitute a phone vibrate for the buzzer. Any suggestions ?

In my recent forum posting in Events, "Perseids", you'll see a thumbnail (shamelessly copied from Wikipedia) of the constellation of Perseus. Its grey (although not 50 shades) In the post itself, the image, now displayed in full, is black, with a white line drawing in the centre. What causes that then ?

I've been finding that in some instructables some of the pictures won't accept a click and display. I'm starting to think that this is due to having the same picture more than once in a single step, like in this one (2nd and 17th picture in the intro). I think I had seen this problem with Firefox 2 and definitely see it with FF3. This doesn't affect only the doubled image either, other images are bothered by this bug.

So maybe I just watched too many movies as a kid, but I thought this would be a neat wall display to have. It's based on those old shoot-em-up movies where the main guy would go to the giant room of guns in the fancy displays, expect this wouldn't be for guns (though that would be cool). I remember one movie where some pistols were on a display on the wall, and when the guy pressed a button the display moved out to a 45 degree angle. That's basically what I want to do. Not sure if I could really explain it, so I tried my best to draw my idea so far. There would be a base that's connected to a wall that doesn't move and the display which would move. The top of the display would be attached to slots in the top of base and could move up and down. The bottom of the base would be attached to the middle of the display and would push the display out. Sorry if I'm not making sense, can't find a good way to explain it. I don't know enough about electric motors and controllers to make this or it would be my first instructable, so if someone else wants to make it, please let me know how it's done. This would be fun to see in action. Cheers!

Okay, this might be a little confusing, so bear with me. I want to make a looping video of, say, Matrix code display on a small LCD screen, but I just want the little screen. Is there any way I could hook up a thumb drive or something to it to display that video in a loop?

Hi I want to make a timer - a very small one - for using in school, for cookling and so on... It needs to have a display with at least four digits, five buttons(reset, on/off, start/stop, minutes and hours). I'm planning on powering it by a CR2032, or another button-sized battery. Does anyone have schematics or circuits I could have a look at? In advance, thank you:)

Hello, for the last couple of days images are not displaying when I'm on the instructable site. When I navagate down to the individual instructables the images are fine but no images display on the summary pages. I've tried Firefox and Safari on my Mac but both act the same way. I'm going to try from a PC and see if that works. This is annoying to say the least. \

Can anyone please help? I am looking for a way to display several softballs for my daughter. I was hoping to find a way to mount a length of flexible clear plastic tubic, approximately 10" dia. on an arc and have an opening in the top to insert the balls and have them then roll to either side. The balls have stats written on them, so I would want to be able to manipulate them afterwords so the writing would be visible. My first problem is find 10" dia. flexible clear plastic tubing. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

I am finding that I no longer see image annotations on Instructables. This happens regardless of browser, and is reproducible on two computers (both running Win 7). It does not seem to matter if I am logged in. The annotations are still present if I view my own Instructables in "Edit" mode, but I cannot see them when normally viewing my (or any other) Instructables. Is this a known issue?

I'm not getting images in my Instructables newsletter emails. Almost all of them are broken except for the We're Hiring graphic. The links in the image placeholders work. But without the images I'm not inspired, so I don't bother to click and follow the link. I have no problem with any other emails from other websites. I'm using Outlook 2007 on Windows Vista. (Please don't suggest using a different email program.) I've added Instructables to my "Safe Sender" list and "Safe Domain" list. What's going on?

Why is it when someone makes a comment in russian that is shows up on the IBLE as a random string of characters, but when I go to their profile it shows the correct letters? I am able to copy the russian text from the profile comments and run it through a translation program to find out what is said, so that is not a problem ... I am just wondering why it comes up as gobbldy-gookk on the IBLE. example in a recent IBLE one of the comments I received was "tasty, thank you" written in russian in the comment section of the IBLE it shows up as :CA=> A?0A81>!

Okay, I've never actually come across this before or needed to do this but now i come to it, i realise I am really lost to it. What i need to do is display a 3 digit (hundreds eg. 342) number on three 7 segment displays. So pretty much I just need a 3 digit voltage read-out to be incorporated into a portable design. I've been looking around and have come across the Analog to Digital converters, and understand how they work, but I'm not sure how to incorporate them or to put it to any use. So if anyone knows or has a schematic or any information I could work off, please help. :)ThanksPyroten

Here's what I need, and haven't been able to figure out how to do it: I designed a motor speed controller that runs a 12V fan. Speed control is via PWM through a 50K linear Potentiometer. I need to be able to read the percentage of run voltage ie: 0V=0%, 6V=50%, 12V=100%. I want to display this on 3 7-segment LED displays. Anyone with insight would be greatly appreciated. Brian

I was wondering if it is possible to have an icon or marker show on a screen where you are pointing, as a screen displaying a camera feed and an icon to show where it is pointing. My initial idea is to use a laser pointer and an icon to show on the screen where it points by using the colour of the pointer. I simply wish to see if its possible in one way or another and what methods there are. (not sure I am phrasing it right so apologies if I need to clarify it further) thank you for any information you can you can give me

I wish to upgrade my Laptop Display from Non Touch to Touch. I did a bit of research on the internet, but am unable to find a proper answer. Is it possible? I would love to migrate from half HD non touch display to full HD touch display (even IPS). But here in India, I'm unable to find it in this config for 15.6" size (atleast, not cheaply). I have found one display which has a few things common with my old display. Both have TFT with LED Backlight, same size, aspect ratio, resolution and no of pins. Old Display: 15.6 inch TFT with LED Backlight (Non touch) (16:9). Resolution: 1366 x 768. 40 Pins. Part Number: B156XW04V5 Datasheet: https://www.olimex.com/Products/OLinuXino/A20/A20-LCD15.6/resources/B156XW04V5.pdf Cost: ₹5000 ($75 approx) Proposed New Display: 15.6 inch TFT with LED Backlight (Touch) (16:9). Resolution: 1366 x 768. 40 Pins. Part Number: B156XTT01 Datasheet: http://www.datasheetspdf.com/datasheet/download.php?id=923648 Cost: ₹12500 ($180 approx) Would I need to change LVDS cable as well? Existing LVDS Cable: Part Number: P5LJ0 Datasheet: http://www.s-manuals.com/pdf/motherboard/compal/compal_la-7221p_r1.0_schematics.pdf Here are the answers to some questions you might have: 1. Laptop is Acer Aspire TimelineX 5830TG. 2. My Laptop did not have any variant with 1080p display or touch display. 3. The old display is slightly cracked. Hence I need to change it anyway. 4. The top flap, display mounting brackets and bezel are damaged too. And the laptop is 5 years old and am unable to get the replacement parts. Hence I am planning on building a new housing for the new display, in any case. (Suggestions in this regard are also welcome) So a bit of variation in physical dimensions is not a problem. 5. Motherboard is Intel i5 2410M with Intel 3000 graphics processor. Graphics Card is Nvidia 540M. (I couldn't find supported resolutions on official websites, but according to 3rd Party websites, both should support 1080p) 6. I have some experience with Electronic Disassembly and Assembly. 7. I can do soldering, but I'm not very good at it. Hence, would like to avoid it, if possible.

Why is the kerning (inter-character) spacing of the text in Instructables' PDFs so goofy? Not any of the heads, but all the text. I'm using Mac OS X 10.5 and the text font used is identified as Helvetica Condensed Bold Italic. Heads are Helvetica Bold (not Condensed) and they do display correctly. I do not have any problem on my system with Helvetica Condensed Bold Italic used in any other document and no problem with numerous PDFs from other sources. And, why not a simple Arial or Helvetica Regular or Plain for the text anyhow?

I just published an instructable (here), and the tip text displays when I edit, and sometimes when I view it, but usually it does not display. For example in the intro, the first pic (of the cake) has 5 tip boxes, and the second (of the supplies) has 7. The pictures are there, but usually (although not always) no boxes or tips are visible. Thoughts?

I am in works of putting together a glass dome with a wood base and a model inside. I am looking for ideas of ways to have the glass dome lock itself onto the base and having the option to unlock. So I do not want to permanently bond it I'm trying to think of some clever way of being able to have it lock whether you twist or some other way but I'm stuck . The photo below is similar to the shape of the dome I have acquired as far as shape I will just be using a knob instead of a rope on top and then below that is the bottom base I have which is more like a plate and not as deep as that first image

Hi, Okay, here is my problem: I found in my garage a small video camera (not with tape, recording or anything, it just plugs directly into the tv to watch the area) which I had got some years ago, now I would like to start using it again, however I don't think the only tv in the house is a good monitor (it doesn't provide any recording and it already has all rca inputs in use). What I would like to do is connect it to my pc and view the video (and listen to audio) on my computer, then like this I can also record video to the HDD if necessary. The camera has a composite video output and a mono audio output. Thanks, All help is appreciated. P.S. The problem with TV tuner cards is that I already have one, but it is not with me so I can not use it, on the other hand since I do already HAVE one I am not going to buy another one. Damn it when I thought that tuner card was not going to be useful and decided not to take it with me.

My current speedometer uses the same type of display that you may find on a solar-activated calculator or cheap alarm clock (the ones that display black letters on a grey background). problem is, I cant see it in bright sunlight! Is there is a way to make a speedometer with my own set of 7-segments displays that use LEDs, or if I could convert my current one to using them?

My name is Simon Njoroge. I have successfully made a 9(rows) x 24(columns) LED display panel that displays a scrolling message that uses the attached code. The panel consists of course of LEDs, 3 shift registers, a 4017 decade counter together with transistors and resistors. However, I would like the panel to display a static message of a maximum of 7 characters for my project need. Kindly can someone edit the code for me? I followed the instructions from the following site:https://www.instructables.com/id/Make-a-24X6-LED-matrix/

The last few email newsletters I received are not showing images. Prior to maybe a month or so ago this was never an issue. I'm on Windows XP service pack 3, using Outlook 2003, my internet browser is Firefox 47.0.1 but the problem is email related. In the latest newsletter, one image actually does display. And 3 link buttons at the bottom displayed - everything else has the dreaded red X instead of the images. Screen captures below.
