DNS problem Answered

Sometimes my browser intermittently says it can't find a site / sites. I believe my ISP is not resolving the IP address from the domain name quick enough / at all. Repeatedly hitting "reload" will get these in the end, but it's annoying (obviously) There is software that will cache IP addresses locally - any recommendations?Or have I got the wrong idea?L - frollard?

How to edit the DNS on amazon Fire TV? Answered

I am trying to do a tutorial where I require screenshots of the amazon fire TV steps. Here are a list of my steps that I require a screenshot for: 1. Navigate to 'Settings' 2.Select 'Systems' 3.Select 'WI-FI' 4.Select your WI-FI network and forget WI-FI network by pressing the button with 3 lines on it. 5.Press the select button. 6.Select your WI-FI network. 7.Enter your WI-FI password and Click on 'Advanced' 8.Now you must enter the IP address for this device: Start by entering the first three digit groups from the IP address of your router. For example, if your router IP address is "192.168.1.1", enter "192.168.1." For the last digit group, you can typically enter "200" so the final IP address for the device would be "192.168.1.200" In some cases you may need to use another number other than 200 if another device already uses that address 9.For the Default gateway, enter the IP of your router 10.Input '24' for the 'Network Prefix Length' and Click 'Next' 11.Enter the following public DNS addresses: DNS 1: 8.8.8.8 DNS 2: 8.8.4.4 12.Click 'Connect' and you're done.

How to host virtual domain on xampp without hosts file?

I've somewhat successfully created a virtual domain in xampp. But for that I had to edit the hosts file in my client pc. So is it possible to create a virtual domain without editing the hosts file? Maybe by adding the list of ips and domains in the xampp server and adding its ip in the client dns? I searched a lot finding nothing helpful, so I'm asking here.

FTP Hassels

I've been trying forever to get my FTP server up and running properly, to start, this is what I have:Filezilla running as a service, port 21 and also some randomly selected listening ports have been opened on modem/router, all the user accounts have been set up properly, and I can confirm that it works from LAN side of the network. I have a dynamic ip so I had to go the no-ip.com way, but it seems to work pretty good giving me a hostname.myftp.org address.I've had 4-5 people try it that I want to have access to it, and only one of them can actually get on, but he was using a different ftp client that I had never heard of, the other people were trying in mac os x or with filezilla's client software. Here is what I get:(000037) 11/7/2008 0:20:06 AM - (not logged in) (12.216.139.84)> Connected, sending welcome message...(000037) 11/7/2008 0:20:06 AM - (not logged in) (12.216.139.84)> 220-FileZilla Server version 0.9.27 beta(000037) 11/7/2008 0:20:06 AM - (not logged in) (12.216.139.84)> 220-Punkguyta's Drop Zone(000037) 11/7/2008 0:20:06 AM - (not logged in) (12.216.139.84)> 220 Please go easy, my upload isn't all that great, thx =P(000037) 11/7/2008 0:20:06 AM - (not logged in) (12.216.139.84)> USER downloads(000037) 11/7/2008 0:20:06 AM - (not logged in) (12.216.139.84)> 331 Password required for downloads(000037) 11/7/2008 0:20:06 AM - (not logged in) (12.216.139.84)> PASS *********(000037) 11/7/2008 0:20:06 AM - downloads (12.216.139.84)> 230 Logged on(000037) 11/7/2008 0:20:06 AM - downloads (12.216.139.84)> PWD(000037) 11/7/2008 0:20:06 AM - downloads (12.216.139.84)> 257 "/" is current directory.(000037) 11/7/2008 0:20:06 AM - downloads (12.216.139.84)> TYPE I(000037) 11/7/2008 0:20:06 AM - downloads (12.216.139.84)> 200 Type set to I(000037) 11/7/2008 0:20:06 AM - downloads (12.216.139.84)> PASV(000037) 11/7/2008 0:20:07 AM - downloads (12.216.139.84)> 227 Entering Passive Mode (209,240,120,189,19,146)(000037) 11/7/2008 0:20:07 AM - downloads (12.216.139.84)> LIST(000037) 11/7/2008 0:20:17 AM - downloads (12.216.139.84)> 425 Can't open data connection.(000037) 11/7/2008 0:20:40 AM - downloads (12.216.139.84)> disconnected. This is what I get with everyone, but my friend that could get on, it worked fine for him and the speed was great. I want to pull my hair out because I've googled over and over, and I'm following the directions, as retardedly easy as they are, and everything should just work correctly, I have filezilla setup to be a passive server and to retreive an external ip address from a url, and they have a default site that seems to also work okay. I'm just wondering if this is the problem, because I'm also running the no-ip dns software side by side? I don't think it matters though.Oh yeah, and I also have it setup for custom port ranges 5000-5100, so unless I plan on having even 80 or more users at a time, that should be a wide enough range. Also, don't use external ip for local network connections is checked. It seems so simplistic to me, and being able to access it locally fine, and seeing at least one other person get on it made me happy, but is there maybe something wrong in the configuration on their end(s)??Thank you guys if you can help me hit this dumb problem in the head.

How to disable this openDNS thing?

I'm using a Mac. So, every time I open a website like twitter and youtube and facebook, openDNS always blocks it. It redirects it to a website (block-websites.com) and I'm not sure why this is happening. Just a minute ago it was okay. I left it like for only 30 minutes (didn't shut it down) and then when I try restarting my Safari, I could not access these websites. Before I left it, I could open it. The only thing I did is to open some youtube videos and download "genio" (not sure what it is) and installed it and then uninstalled it. why is this happening? and how to fix this? Thanks (:

Laptop connect to home wireles network but there is no internet access and this is cause of DNS server isn't responding.

This is my situation, lately i have problem with my laptop. i can connect to my home wireless network but there is no internet access. when i try to troubleshoot my wireless network, the result is "DNS server isn't reponding". So i try to search at web regarding my problem and i found this/your website (www.instructables.com) and there is a question similar with my problem and the way to handle it. so what i do is i change my preferred and alternate DNS server to 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4. after that i try to reconnect to my home wireless network once again and it's totally working! I'm so happy! Thank you! :D So my question right now is, what is the main cause to my problem until i must change my DNS server to 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4?

My desktop is conected to my home network but cant access the internet?

Yesterday my desktop was working fine and could conect to the internet no problem, today it will connect to the network but has no internet access. My laptop and phone both connect and have internet just fine. I have reset my router and modem and that didnt help. I changed it so my Ip addess and DNS where not automatic and that did nothing. Currently it is set back to automatic and it is giving me no default gateway and the IPv4 Address is not what it should be. Like i said earlier, i have no idea what could have caused this as it just happened when i turned on my pc this morning.   Here is my Ipconfig /all from my desktop (the ipconfig /all for my laptop is below) Microsoft Windows [Version 6.1.7601] Copyright (c) 2009 Microsoft Corporation.  All rights reserved. How to configure clients with WSUS? Answered

Hi!  I am working in a tech shop, and one of the things we do quite often is download and install windows updates on client computers.  The problem is that we are in a isolated area and have painfully slow internet.  I built a server with the idea of using WSUS to speed up the update process by having the clients download the updates from a local server.  I had done this in an AD environment before at another job that I had, but when I was planning this project for this job, I forgot that I had to use GP to deploy it the last time I did it, and A.  I don't want to be configuring GP on consumer computers, and B.  Most computers that we work on are Windows Home Edition, not Professional, so they don't even have GP.  Is there a way to configure my server to "intercept" requests to update.microsoft.com and just respond within our local network?  I tried pointing a DNS A record for update.microsoft.com to our local server, but for some reason it doesn't seem to work (is WSUS a different port or protocol than update.microsoft.com maybe?).  In addition, whenever I want to sync updates on the server with that DNS entry, I would have to delete the DNS entry temporarily, since WSUS services will use the DNS server on my local server no matter what (I have tried telling the server NIC to use 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 as it's DNS server, and also adding an entry to the hosts file to point it to update.microsoft.com on the server, but it always overrides and uses the DNS entry from my local server). Frankly, I'm not even sure that what I'm trying to do is possible.  If it isn't, my next idea was to create a script that our technicians and I can run on client computers to quickly switch the WSUS server settings to our local server and then when we are done switch them back to Microsoft.  But would that even work on Home edition computers, or just Professional editions? Thanks for your help!

When I load web pages, it's very slow. I think it's DNS related; how do I fix this?

I just fixed a complicated internet setup but then I just bumped into something else. When I load any page, it takes a while to actually show anything (_nothing_ is shown; it's not like a slow loading page). My internet speed is "blazing" fast - it's exactly what's it's suposed to be (according to my ISP) - thanks to speedtest.net.I think it's DNS related because...... when I go to a page using it's IP address, there's no lag. E.g.: when I type "http://74.125.127.100" withouth the quotes, it's blazing fast, near instant. By the way, that IP address head's to Google.com.I tried with the above address as well as "http://74.125.45.100/" which is another google ip address.--I have the same issue with a ping command: slow when using domain name, fast using ip address. But I have no idea how to fix this...Thanks for any help..

My laptop can't connect to my wifi but everything else in my house can. My laptop can connect to other wifis.

My laptop connects to my wireless router but when it connects it says "No Internet". Same thing happens when I connect the ethernet cable straight to my laptop. Every other device in my house can connect to the internet just fine. I don't have another computer in my house currently, the other computer broke. I tried everything such as restoring my laptop back to a point before this happened, changing my DNS to google's DNS (8.8.8.8), that didn't help either. I'm asking this question on my iPad. I'll be happy to provide further information, just ask. Edit: I forgot to mention that I have windows 10

Why doesn't my internet work properly on my laptop but it works fine on my PC?

Hey, can someone please help me? I have this problem and its really frustrating. My problem is..When I connect to the internet it usually says I have internet connection but Google Chrome says "The web page cant be loaded" and after a few minutes my internet connection goes down and says I have no internet access. So I reconnect to the internet and the same thing happens, I repeat the process and a few times it works but only for a few minutes and then it happens again. (The internet works perfectly fine on other laptops and phones but its just mine for some reason). I asked this on another site and someone told me to go to "My Computer" and then right click it, then go manage, then to click on "Device Manager" and then click on "Network Adapters" and to double click on each of the Intel (R) things there. Everything connects to wifi but my PC.?

I recently moved into a new apartment and after receiving the code to the wifi that is included I started connecting all my devices. My xbox 360 connected flawlessly as well as my Droid 3. But my PC simply will not connect, I am running Windows 7 64bit with a Linksys AE2500 wireless adapter. Quick note: I have checked that IPv4/IPv6 are set to automatically set to obtain IP Addressees and the DNS Server.

OPENDNS is blocking access to streamsend links in your mailings

The OPENDNS DNS lookup and anti-phishing service I've used for the last few years has suddenly  decided that the streamsend redirected links in the Instructables weekly newsletters are an attempt at phishing.  I am able to access the instructables web site directly, but I can't follow links from your emails any more. I receive the weekly newsletter through Yahoo email. My older Instructables newsletters that I was previously able to read are having their streamsend links blocked too. This is a problem between streamsend and OPENDNS.  However, Instructables is affected by this if they're a customer of streamsend.

How can I age new fabric which is glued to an old land yachting sail? Answered

My study association builds land yacht for own use. One of them, which was broken and outdated, recently is renovated such that it can be displayed next to the room of the board of the study association.  The sail we use for it is an original DN ice-yacht sail about 40 years old. For the looks we, and our faculty mechanical engineering, decided we should add logo's of our association and the TU/e on the sail. This is done, but now rises the problem. The new logo's/letters don't look right, way to young. How can we age the new fabric to the correct looks?

Posting go into the digital nirvana - AGAIN

I just finnished a lenghy reply, hit the "Make Comment" button and after a short wait my posting was gone, just totally gone! Going back in the browser did not bring it back either. To make things worse I could not write this complaint in Firefox as it is impossible to select the categories, so instead I had to fire up Chrome to make this posting. This exact behaviour of posting going lost during the sending period happend before and was supposed to be fixed. Yes, I did the usual troubleshooting of browser cache, history, dns and so on - but that is of no use anyway one you lost a posting. I don't know about others but I am starting to get sick and tired of bugs making the proper use of this website impossible. Am also sick and tired of being forced to create my postings and Ibles in an external editor just because Instructables collects more bugs than users at some stages. Said it before and say it again: If you can't fix the damn Autodesk software properly just just a forum software that is proven to work properly! Getting far too frustrating here :(

Help hosting a website using a WL-500gP Asus router + a 2GB flash drive

Hello everyone, As the title suggests I am trying to host my own website by using the device combo mentioned in the title. So far I managed to create a DNS hostname free from www.dyndns.com mostly because of my Dynamic IP address. I also managed to get the router to update the IP in dynds' database. The problem is that whenever I type in the hostname in the addressbar the router's login page shows up instead of the website (and I do understand why this is). The website itself is stored on the flash drive connected to the router via USB. I think that by typing ftp://my-hostname.dyndns.org/path-to-the-html-file-on-the-flashdrive  I can view the website but this is not very easy to remember so I doubt any person wanting to visit my site is going to remember the path. Is there a way to make my website show up when typing the hostname instead of the router's login page? And if not can I atleast, in some way, redirect people to the html file?

PC Windows7 will connect to network but no internet?

Hello all, I am having recent issues with my home PC running windows 7. I have working internet with a modem that has a built in router (It's Rogers brand new Hitron modem, the white skyscraper looking one).  Here is my current issue. When i plug in my PC through a cat5 cable it seems to screw with all internet connections. It gives me internet for roughly 30 seconds (very slow loads) and then eventually says I am connected to my network but no internet.  In turn, this also creates all devices to not have internet acees as well, PS4 hard wired, XBox One hard wired and also my mobile devices connected through the WiFi. If I unplug my PC LAN cable from the modem, both my wired consoles work and can access internet and same for any mobile device connected to the WiFi. I have done a bunch of possibly theories to help renew my ip. All my DNS settings within my network adapter are set to obtain address automatically, i have tried net flushes and release/renew with command prompt.. At one point I reset my modem and created a new network, this seemed to fix the problem for about a day or two, but now again it is back to only allowing me to access internet when i do not have my main PC plugged in. So very strange. Is there something else I can do? Does my computer have a virus that is hijacking the internet? any info would be much appreciated. I am a big gamer and as much as I enjoy the console, I am really missing getting on the PC Has anyone every experience anything like this?

Wind powered desktop PC, is it remotely possible?

So I was thinking up an idea this afternoon about how I could be more of a PC enthusiast, I came up with this idea: What if I could power a desktop grade PC on just the power supplied by a wind turbine (preferably that I had made myself), and batteries? My plan was to set up a (either or) BOINC Computer specifically for research, or something like a DNS/VPN server or failing that something like a NAS. Anyway, heres what I have been able to find so far in terms of wind turbines and power... http://www.mdpub.com/Wind_Turbine/ https://www.instructables.com/answers/how-to-battery-power-a-desktop-pc/ It seems way over my head, especially the second link to the other question. Computer Specs that I had in mind: Intel i5 K series chip of sorts 8-16 GB of (presumably DDR3 memory) A motherboard, again, not sure exactly what but this can be chosen nearer the time, if it helps, something with around 2-4 PCI-e lanes for numerous GPUs. (This is NOT meant to be a gaming rig). A couple of GTX 760's I was having in mind, something older will do too. (This would be using the CUDA technology for accelerated processing) A Power supply that would fit the bill... 1000 watts? May be needed depending on the number of GPUs I have. I am so ignorantly unaware of how this would work.  Other things that I would need: - A wind turbine that was able to charge batteries during the day (for example) - Batteries - Some sort of converter (I think) to change whatever AC power there may be into DC. I think that is what I need,  Thanks in advance! slippers.

how can I wire a DS1809 digital pot to a AN7510 stereo amp ? Answered

How can I wire a DS1809 digital pot to a AN7510 stereo amp ?  I am trying to boost a left and a right audio signal to produce fairly significant sound through 2x 8ohm speakers.  i currently have it running off of 2x LM386's and a wheel potentiometer with 5 pins.  as you know, LM386's dont have the best sound. and who likes wheel pots and trimmers when you can use tact switches. so heres where I am.(Datasheets can be accessed by clicking on the IC's) FACTS: o This is to run sound directly from an N64 game console being converted to a portable, to a pair of 8 ohm speakers approx 1". o I want to be able to have a P.B. volume up and down, and mute if possible. o Power is 14.8 VDC, or 5VDC o Was going to follow this schematic and use a TDA7053A Stereo Amp(By Phillips), with a DS1669 Digital Pot (By Dallas), but the IC's are hard     to get and pricey. o Want use a AN7510 Stereo Amp w/ Volume control (By Panasonic) and a DS1809 Digital Pot w/ Storage(By Dallas) PROBLEMS THUS FAR: o Whilst designing the circuit i couldn't figure out where to connect PIN 6 on the Dallastat to on the amp. it claims it has volume control.??? o I also dont know how to use the MUTE PIN feature or the STANDBY PIN feature. Are the Tact Switches??? I am still just a begginner at low voltage electronics. I have done a lot of reading and tinkering.  I do understand the basic principles of electricity, ohms law, working with resistors, LEDS, and the basic functionality of capacitors, transistors, and the like.  I am a quick study so if anyone can help me to make this work and understand why it will work, that would be great.  I have attached some pictures to help my cause and will supply whatever other information may be needed to accomplish this.  The first picture is the schematic that gave me the idea, the second is a perfboard layout i was working on for this idea.  Thankyou all in advance for your time and help  UPDATED  So Im going to go with a AN7510 from panasonic and a MAX5456 from maxim. and i have added a new diagrahm. can anyone tell me if it will or if it wont work.  If it wont, can you advise me on what to fix. o Not worried about the mute button, or the standbye, Balance or shutdown features the cluster at the top of the circuit would be a 12-pin header for a connection containing the audio left and right in, +5v, grd, speaker left +/- and right +/-, and tact switches leads for vol up +/-, and vol dn +/-

Beware of the new Email scam!

Recently I noticed that one my Emails accounts got some unwanted attention. Both in the standard folder as well as in the provided spam folder I started to collect Emails. And I don't always mean from senders I knew or webistes I am registered with.My usual approach is to just delete what comes from unkown senders or has a suspicious feeling to it.So no winner got it all crap, no offers, no invitations...A few however seemd to originate from some well known "things on the web" - and some of them I am registered with and get ads, offers and such.Sadly that resulted in some Emails being looked at and then discarded anyways.I kept deleting those unwanted mails without opening them for a few days. They they magically changed ;)Websites I used and especially those that require login details appeared as senders.Nothing with any vital info in the preview but also no real activity from my end on those websites. Then I made some impulsive buys on Ebay :(On top of the usual Emails I also got some "reminders" and "seller offers" added.Never happened before and certainly not activated in my Ebay account as feature. And unlike real Emails from Ebay there was my account name missing.Instead a conviently placed and highlighted shortcut button to "You account login" was provided.Ok, fake, forwared to Ebays spam team and quickly confirmed as spam.Moved and only hours later I got more Emails with similar tempting offers as buttons to confirm something that requires me to login. And now from websites or services I actually logged in to this day.The wise donkey said: You have something on your computer that shouldn't be there!Reboot from a CD to have the hard drives checked for malware - negative captain :(Ok then must be something within Windows, time to use a system restor point for a few weeks ago.Again nope...So I used a different browser and quite few websites and services that require my login details. No new Emails... with those websites.Kept using this brwoser for a few days and only stuff I already had cam again a few times but overall far less spam mails.Used the standard browser for a few hours with some login requirements and within a day I had corresponding Emails for a few of them.Found several bad tracking cookies in my browser.Bad in terms of redirecting all visited IP addresses to some addresses I can't even find.Deleted all cookies as well as the browser history.Reboot...A closer look at those suspicious Emails revealed that some include a thing similar to the old single pixel tracker. If you open them and not otherwise prevented it will result in some webservice knowing you actually opened the Email.Together of course with your Email address. The headers were good fakes too so the real sender is properly disguised. Those bottons and links mostly went to websites my browser protection already knows and prevents. Some however did not.In a sandboxed browser I was able to get onto some more or less convincing copies or the originals websites login page. The addressbar always started with originals name but then had a lot of cryptic stuff added to it.Sandbox blocked all what would otherwise make it throughcame through but the browser was rendered useless in the sandbox after I "logged in".Did another check and confirmed that all links buttons and such on that "infected" website also cause the same browser crash.Only difference was that only WITH something typed into the login field the browser tried to establish a new outgoing connection before getting dusted. Conclusions:The malicious Email provides the IP address used. Most if not all links within such an Email end on malicious websites. Some, especially at the beginning don't!!Instead the links go to websites that use cookies and other stuff normal protection mechanisms overlook.Somewhere between opening the link and closing it or the browser a change is made.Either you get a popup windows looking like some advertisement or when you start your browser the next time you see some website added that was not there before. The spammer now know you actually bothered enough to follow at least of the faked links provided in the Emails. The added bonus tracker provides ongoing supplies of websites you visit.A lot still use things in the address bar that identify them as a login page, even if it just starting with HTTPS.Popular websites and services get faked copies on servers in the dark web or at least outside normal DNS services. Now the spammer adds more and more Emails faking things you login to when using a browser for it.Until now nothing too bad or irriversible happend. But get fooled and actually click on a link in one of the new spam mails and it might be over.In the "best outcome" you would be locked out of your browser and have to delete it in safe mode or attempt a manual removal of the hijacker.A bit worse is if your protection started to fail and instead of the hijacke you end up with something manipulating your system.Really bad would be if you end on faked login website, and safety fails until you are locked out from your own system.Don't know what Email you might get after that and what demands to fix your system...However it gets worse: Like the one before but when enter your credentials and hit the login button the website jumps to some random Youtube clip or Goole search page.In case you wonder: You just gave the spammer your personal login details for said webiste or service....Most "deadly" would be if you end on more than just one like that.Every single one give the spammer a new login that you might pay for or that includes even more senstive data.Having to format and re-install all sudden is a thing of far too late then.I do not know if there was an Email I clicked on first, an infected advertisement or even some leaked Email addresses including my own on the internet for sale. All I know for sure is that those tracking options in the malicious Emails correspond to tracking stuff in the browser. No virus, no real malware until you click on the wrong stuff.Anything to prevent this from happening?Whatever you do: Do not use anything that requires the internet! - Just kidding!! Relax...1: Never click on anything inside mails from sources you don't fully trust! If in doubt copy and paste the link into an editor and check if it identical to the real address! Usually you would find some random stuff after the dot of the address name where you would other wise see .COM or .COM.AU.2. In case you ended on some spam or fake looking website anyways you should delete the cookies and browser history. The history might not be required though.3. Best would of course be to only allow known and trusted cookies or to not use any that survive a restart of the browser.4. Very important! If you start to get those Email very shortly after using it to create an account for something on the web then please provide the website you registered at with that Email address !!!5. If you get faked Emails for things you are actually registered with then please consider to imform the admins or support of this website about it. You might not have clicked on it but some user there might if nobody places a warning ;)What if all went to a total failure?I assume why you made that backup of all vital data and kept it updated? Also how install your operating system, in my case Windows, again.A hijack is easy, a fully infected or even encrypted system not.
