So I had a problem choosing a pattern that I was going to decorate a notebook with. I looked up patterns and designs on Google images, but most were either all too complicated or just not appealing to me. So I decided to create my own design. I had a few guidelines for the design: 1. It had to reflect my personality somehow. 2. It can't be too complicated 3. I had to like it, of course. I looked around for inspiration on Google and Ikea, and found this design where it was a feather with stripes surrounded by lines, circles, and curves. And it hit me, a picture surrounded by different patterns. Since I'm Asian, I immediately thought of a cute panda. Then, I google searched a tutorial for a panda, drew it, and behold, a panda! After that, I thought that it needed more, so I started drawing random ovals behind it. The ovals looked too plain so I thought about adding more, with patterns! I drew a variety of patterns in the ovals/circles and the picture is my result. If you look close enough you can see my other attempted patterns on the back of the paper, including feathers and toast. I'm just random like that. Pip pip toodley doo!

Hi, I want to buy a Magna Doodle and hang it in my room, to write notes on. Now I always use little square papers, but I always have piles of those papers everywhere and with a Magna Doodle I don't use paper so it is greener. But does any of you know if there is a Magna Doodle or something similar from a different manufacturer that has a more adult design? If not I'll just try to adjust one.

Hello, I have recently been developing this game that I call "DüdleTak". I named it after how you will eventually attack. When you move, the character on the bottom screen will move along with the one on top. You use the stylus on the bottom screen to draw a red line on the top screen. I hope you like my game. Note: You have to have a copy of Petit Computer for 3DS/XL/DSi/XL/2DS to play this game. Game Version: 0.1.1

I want to go about making a giant Magna Doodle to use as a white board in my home office. It would help cut down on the number of pens I use as well as that awful ink smell. Overall, more better for the environment and hopefully for my budget. Any ideas on how you would go about doing this?

My mom got me an LL Bean rolling backpack for school, and I'm thinking of ways to make it cooler...if that's even possible for a rolling bag ;) I've already thought of doodling, putting on buttons, etc. but I want ideas that I'd only hear on instructables :) I'm also considering using the "boom bag" instructable, so tech suggestions are fine.

So after seeing all the drafting table instructables and multitouch displays I think Ive decided to make a hybrid with a desk that has an inlayed box holding the multitouch display that can rise up and out of table at an angle similar to the drafting tables found on here. I would then use a wall mounted monitor to free up space on desk for old school pencil drawing. Just wondering if anyone had any ideas or issues they could think of right off the bat to help me in the brainstorming process. Any help is appreciated. Thanks! Happy making!

What should I do...I want them to be able to play together. And grow together.

The increased visibility/accessibility of the "slideshow" option seems to have resulted in a large increase in the number of useless/non-instructive/incomplete/spam/whack-a-doodle postings. I'm tired of wading through heaps of crap just to find real, honest-to-goodness Instructables: step-by-step instructions for making/doing things. I have no beef with the slideshow format itself; it is quite appropriate for some projects, but the content has recently been predominantly junk. I regard it as littering up the site and polluting the "mission" of Instructables. I'm just grumbling here, as I have no real suggestion for a solution, except that perhaps the standard for approval of postings needs to be higher.

I've been thinking about this all day, and have even doodled a few ideas down. if you were to say cut the front of the wellys open, cover the boots in a canvas like material through which the laces would flow, made a tongue out of some sort of rubber stuff, maybe lined them with something nice an soft, i was thinking felt, and maybe even add a few extra straps, and finally some kind of water proofing layer over the canvas so as to keep the boots watertight...could it work?

In a scenario where you have a waterwheel on a river that was turning a wheel, would adding a system of gears increase the wheel speed or decrease the wheel speed due to friction. I have included a doodle to help visualize what I mean. The left side, side x, doesn't have any gears while the right side, side y, does have gears. The gears are made up of pieces that have a small side and a large side. I am pretty sure that the output would be much faster if friction wasn't involved, but I have a feeling that the friction would actually make it slower if gears were added. So, could anyone explain if x side would be faster or y side and explain why? Thank you

Good afternoon, Im making an exhibition piece that will have children working a set of bellows that are connected to a (pretend) blacksmiths forge. What I need to represent is the more the bellows are pumped the more the "embers" will glow. Im thinking a turbine tachometer that leads to an LED driver set to display as Bar so the faster the turbine spins the more LEDS are lit, or they trigger a series of LEDs to light (this thing has to get pretty bright not sure one LED per step will do it. Trouble is im good with the theory and pretty good with the practical its just the technical that is letting me down. If anyone could see there way to giving this some thought and maybe doodling a circuit diagram / shopping list that would be awesome. They tend to be small, 2" square or circle and were all black and white originally but lately they became coloured and often up to 10 on an A4 page. Geometric shapes, convoluted lines and even simple patterns are prominant. I have decided to show them to our Instructables community somehow. Perhaps as an Instructable, something like. [How to fill hours of your time and enjoy every minute] I actually draw in meetings, watching tv, on the phone etc. What do you draw? Okay so I'm trying to build something that will allow the li I placed on a vial to open and close according to the time protocol I assign it on Audrino. The lid is a flip, spring action lid made from hard plastic. The programming shouldn't be a problem, but I wanted to see if there is another easier way to go about this keeping the whole thing under 100grams. At first I was thinking adding Velcro to the top on the lid and on the side of the vial that the lid retracts to. The lid moved by a micro piston of some sort all powered by a watch battery a chip programmed by Audrino. But I was thinking if there is some sort of mini lever arms or somehow rig a magnetic reed switch with a magnet an use the polarities to push pull the lid? I'm just having trouble with the design, getting very frustrating. I attached a picture of a very very quick doodle of what I mean. The top design is with the Velcro idea. Thank you so much, really hope I learn something from you guys and others too!! Picture of ideas: http://i.imgur.com/pREJ9O3.jpg Thanks again! :D sorry for long message!

Hello, Instructibles gang…. I posted several questions related to “secret boxes” over the weekend. I got some feedback suggesting that the inquiries should have been combined, and that they didn’t include enough information to lead to worthwhile answers. The topics came to mind sort of haphazardly, so I do apologize for the scattershot nature of the original posts. As to the latter issue, “secrecy” was never the intention… rather, it was that this is all still in the “doodle” stage of planning, and I didn’t have a lot of details to give in the first place. Nonetheless, I’ll try to get a little more concrete - and combine the three questions in the process. I’m a letterboxer. Letterboxing stuff comes up now and then on Instructibles, but for those who are unfamiliar, it’s similar to geocaching (which seems to be more well-known), but with an added, artistic component. Whenever I see “secret boxes” in my regular Instructibles emails I think about whether the designs could be adapted for letterboxing purposes – either “on the trail” or at limited-time events and get-togethers. Naturally, I’ve been looking through my bookmarks and doing Instructibles searches, google searches, etc., but I’d appreciate if anybody might be willing to point me toward some of their favorite designs. I’m increasingly interested in creating boxes that are “hidden in plain sight” – not concealed, but rather “hidden” by virtue of the fact that they look like something else – such as a birdhouse or mailbox – and might in fact actually BE that something else, in addition to being a hiding place. I would welcome any suggestions that the community thinks might fit the bill. Here are some of the preliminary ideas I’ve been thinking about: 1) Folks hunting the box are told to take a 9v battery, with the snap-on wire leads, with them. When they get to the box they have to put the leads into two holes, where they and the battery complete a circuit. The current trips some sort of latch, allowing a door to be opened. Of course, the door would have to re-latch when closed again. 2) Something similar to #1 but a little more electronic. Hunters might be given a schematic of a simple Thing that they have to build and take with them. This would, essentially, be a key. I’ve already received an interesting suggestion involving RFID chips. I also got to thinking that a USB connection could be very discreet and easily hidden, and THAT got me thinking that the “key” could perhaps be something on a smartphone… data rather than hardware. I’ve got basically no background in electronics, but I’m fairly good at following directions…. 3) Pretty much any other contraption where some sort of hidden compartment would be created, which can be accessed through some sort of process that likely wouldn’t happen randomly or accidentally. (I know… could I be any more vague?) The boxes would likely be mounted to something solid - a tree, wall, post, etc. - but I imagine it could be that you take it down, do what you’ve gotta do, and then put it back. And they would most likely be exposed to the elements and would have to stand up to being out of doors. The size of the compartment is entirely flexible…no minimum or maximum dimensions. And, as stated, I’m a beginner when it comes to electronics – but I am more than willing to learn! I know what I’m trying to describe, but please let me know if I’m not doing well in communicating it to others. Like I said, I’m not trying to be secretive. It’s just that it’s still a very open-ended scheme – not many specifics – and I’m interested in hearing how different folks might approach it. Please shout if you have any thoughts or want more info.

INTROThere don't seem to be any good instructables on how to draw (or create art), so I decided to make one. Here are some tips I've learned in art class. You may be disappointed with the lack of pictures, but remember; this is about YOUR art, not mine. So, happy art-ing!*This was supposed to be an Instructable, but the evil robot jerk thingy deleted it. So here it is, forum-format.*STEP ONE: DRAWING1. Stay LOOSE. Use your whole arm. A good way to warm up is to do gesture drawings; they're fun and they look cool. (Gesture drawings are drawings done with one line. The idea is to capture the movement of the object, and the inside, not just the edges; it's hard to explain.)2. Draw lots. Doodle. Write with funky letters. Honestly, practicing will improve your art tenfold.3. For still lives (drawing things that you can see), draw the object you see, not the object you think you see. For example, if you're drawing a teapot, don't draw what a teapot looks like (or what you think a teapot looks like), draw the teapot in front of you. Draw the bumps and the shadows, the drips down the spout, the angle, etc.4. DON'T SMUDGE. Don't. You can get the same affect with shading, and it looks WAY better. Trust me.5. Draw real things. Don't just draw things from your imagination, draw the things in front of you.STEP TWO: PHOTOGRAPHYLots of people make the mistake of thinking that if their drawing is (to them) craptastic, then their art is. It's no true. You don't have to draw to make art; go grab a camera and take some photos. You'll be amazed at the number of cool designs you can find in your house -- the way the blanket on your bed ripples, the pattern your computer cables make, etc. Take photos of everything: the sky, your room, your walls, your face, your friends, your plants, your cat, everything. And finally, take lots and lots of photos. This is where a digital camera comes in handy. I guarantee that if you take 150 photos (it's not hard -- 150 should take you an hour) at least 25 will be decent. 10 will be good. And at least one or two will be spectacular. So get out there and take some photos! MATERIALSDrawing:Pencils:- Use a good, sharp HB or 4B pencil. Analogue, not mechanical.- Get a good eraser; the best are the rectangular white ones- For pencil crayons, I suggest a well-known brand; Crayola or Laurentien are my two main choicesPaper:- Get good, thick paper. The worst thing you can do is draw something spectacular on a piece of lined paper, so I suggest you carry some blank pages with you, in a binder or sketchbook.Pens:- I suggest Crayola Sketch pens (the ones with the thick tips), or SharpiesPainting:- NO PUCK-PAINTS. Don't use anything that comes dry. If it isn't in a tube, tub, or bottle, don't use it. Liquids have better colour -- they don't look as faint.Brushes:- Shell out for the good ones. Get ones with wooden handles, and tips that look like real hair. No plastic, synthetic-tipped garbage.- Take care of them: wash all the paint off of them when you're finished, and dry them off. Place them brush-ends up, so that the bristles don't get squashed and look like Calvin's head. And finally, mess around with crayons a bit (go Crayola) most people think they're for toddlers, but they're fun, and you can do some really cool stuff with them.
