a 567 page document................made in 5 seconds.

Ok, this is a document i made in ms word today. It is 567 pages long, and made in 5 seconds. Yes, 5 seconds, not 5 months, no joke. No copy and paste either, or a download (those take about a minute each for a document 567 pages long)if you want to know how to do it yourself, first of all, dont bother with this unless you have word 2007, as it does not work in past versions of office. However, i have saved this document in compatibility mode, so you can see it has 567 pages yourself.the upload for this document is taking a while............about 2 mins

Linux on 1994 laptop?

I recently acquired a (free!) IBM thinkpad from 1994. I do not have a charger but got it to run by hooking a power supple to where the battery hooks up. The hard drive (a nice roomy 520 megs) does not work, but it does have a working floppy drive. Here is the Question: Is their any type of linux that can can boot from a floppy disk and run on a system like this: 50 mhz processor 20 MB of RAM, previously 4 MB. I found an unused 16 MB card under the floppy drive (?!) If there isn't one you know of, is their any version of MS-DOS that I can boot from a floppy and download for free? Thanks! Update: I found a 2.1 GB HD ($20) online, which could help. I won't order it yet, though.

But the last time I unsuccessfully edited the report directly on the flash drive, and this led to a terrible problem for me and my work. Now the interface shows me only about the error when opening. There is nothing more to do with the document. It is important for me to solve the problem earlier than technical support will do. I need lost information to continue working without loss of business reputation.

Wondering what I can do with this hollow cathode tube...

I've got this hollow cathode tube from a spectra aa machine (used for metals analysis). It was supposedly still working - my old boss at the lab I worked at found it and considered tossing it out as they no longer had that AA machine (they had upgraded to an ICP/MS), but knows I collect interesting looking things. Am I right to assume that cathode tubes are quite dissimilar to the variety of tubes used in vintage amps and of no use in that regard? Does anyone know what sort of power I'd be looking for to even get this thing to light up? On the plug at the end of its cable, they posts are labeled A through F, then H, J, and K.

MS Win XP puter freezing upon boot up. How can I fix? :(

I have a home made PC that is about 4 years old that runs Microsoft XP, usually anyway.  I purchased it from the guy that built it.  All was wonderful until last week when it froze upon boot up right at the welcome screen.  All I can do now is a safe boot or shut her off.  I have no idea how to fix this problem.  I have seen lots of stuff online about how common this used to be.   I am happy to be directed to a site with instructions but do not know how to fix it when it won't run.  It seems most of the info out there in the cloud speaks of preventing the problem.  I have my original discs if needed to repair.  Thanks in advance for your help.

NiChrome Power Source? Answered

So, I'm doing a project that needs to boil maybe 8-10 drops of water very quickly. I was thinking of using NiChrome wire to do this as in the included diagram (sorry low quality, MS Paint). However, I can't seem to find an appropriate power source. So, I need some easy to obtain powersource that is also relatively small. Something like batteries, a capacitor bank, or anything similar. Remember, it has to be able to boil of those 8 drops pretty fast, lest they condense in another part of the pipe before the desired pressure is reached.

I'd like to build a table of sorts out of glass with a projector built into the frame under it to project upwards onto the glass, then eventually perhaps adding an IR sensor and work towards building a touchscreen/MS-Surface-like table. Multiplexing more than 100 7segment LED displays with a microcontroller

What are the multiplexing techniques to interface about 100 7segment displays to a 8-bit microcontroller (say 8051). If I hook up a row of decoders to the control pins of the display array on a common bus, I guess I might acheive it. But I doubt if there would be any flicker while doing so. Say for example, If I have 64 pairs of 7seg digits to be controlled, I may do a round-robin multiplex to the tune that each pair is ON for about 1ms in every 64 ms. Will that be possible, given that the duty cycle and frequency are of that order? Thanks for your invaluable response. Regards, Ather

webcam with cad software?

Ok, so I have to do some engineering drawings of our robot arm for science olympaid. For now I can just make stuff really easily in paint in like 10min. But part of our score is in the quality of paperwork if there is a tie for operation. We are building a new arm that will be much more complicated. I happen to have a webcam above a white panel for creating things for a video game development thing my little bro got. (software is nothing impressive, probably not even as good as ms paint). I do have auto cad software, but havent used it much (my grandpa gave the pc to me and he had it on here). Is there any sort of program or feature in cad that allows you to kind of scan things in? I think that our bimba pnumatic cylinders are worthy of being accurately rendered in cad. But I dont have the knowledge of how to do it "free hand"

Free Software Sources

. I'll kick this off with my all time favorite, SourceForge. "The world's largest Open Source software development web site.". No matter what you want to do, you can probably find a free program that will do it at SourceForge.. Quality of the programs varies widely, but if you pay attention to last revision dates (be wary if it hasn't been updated in a few years or hasn't been updated since it was posted) and the number of downloads (more is usually better), you can skip over the lesser stuff.. Not sure how they handle malware prevention, but I've never been infected by any of the plethora of stuff I've downloaded.. . 2008-04-26. Here's the sources others have contributed, in a handy list with links. Help me find stuff on book binding?

Ok, i took a look around the instructables a few times and found a few good things on book binding but not what im really after.. i think i have the basic idea down for how to bind pages or " folios " together to make a basic coptic book. But what i cant find is how to attach a leather cover to the spine of the book. It seems that when someone learns this skill there sworn to secrecy or they make a tutorial you have to pay $50 to see.. im looking for a good free resource with clean and easy to understand instructions, not horrible drawn in MS paint diagrams and patchy descriptions of what it should look like.. If you know of anything or if you know how to do this please post an instructable or link me? ill make a few instructabls when i learn the steps. - Thanks! ps. here is an image of something simpler to what i want to make.

IR trip wire with discreet components

I am in need of help and I am going insane with this. Question is about a simple circuit with IR sensor/tripwire part and 555 timer which would keep the alarm buzzer on for thee seconds. No fancy stuff like arduino or relay or anything like that just LEDs, resistors, transistors, 555 timer and a buzzer. I got the IR sensor part to work and the timer part to work, but when I try to combine them everything goes haywire and nothing works. I have IR photo transistor TOPS-030 as the IR sensor. I am really starting to lose my mind with this and it has been three years since I started doing this project. I got diagnosed with undefined neurological disease (probably MS-disease) which has slowed my down even more. I worked on the circuit every now and then not every night during the past three years =) I know this circuit is simple and it can be put together in a brief moment the thing that is driving me crazy is the fact that when I got something working then everything goes haywire. Doing very basic beginner instructable describing this circuit would be very helpful even to others not just me. It would also keep the knowledge of using discreet logic up in these micro controller days.

Anyone know of a cheap Digital Video-Camera that has (or can be hacked to support) External / Asynchronous triggering?

Basically, I'm wanting to record something from several vantage-points (tennis-strokes mostly, but it would be relevant for things such as baseball or golf swings as well) using two or more cameras. The problem of recording with multiple-cameras is, if they're not triggered simultaneously, they could be capturing their respective frames at as much as 1/(fps*2) of a second (i.e.;16.7 ms for 30 fps) off from one another; which for many, if not most things wouldn't be a concern. However, since they wouldn't capturing the event at the exact-same moment, the usability of the video information for motion-analysis purposes is greatly reduced. For everything else other than lacking support of external/async. triggering, something like my relatively-cheap $120 ApiTek 60-FPS 1080p Camera (Std-Def would suffice) I picked-up on a whim at Walgreen's would fit the bill quite nicely. While professional cameras do have this feature (also referred to as a Master/Slave Camera Array), this is simply for my personal-use, and I'd have a hard time selling my wife on the idea that I need to spend multiple thousands of dollars on it.

Attempting my first custom figure - Ferra/Torr

Hello, I've decided to finally try my hand at doing a custom figure. I want to try and make Ferra/Torr from Mortal Kombat X. Little guys riding on big guys is one of my favorite things for some reason. I figure it's probably best to start with Torr (the big guy). Right now I'm looking for ideas on what to use for the base body. I'm leaning towards a Marvel Select Ultimate Hulk as my base figure. I like his facial expression and his hand situation - one closed fist and one open hand with big grody fingernails. I have some concerns though, I've heard his articulation isn't as good as some other MS hulks. Does anyone have some insight into this? Would I be able to get him into a sort of hunched over pose? The little picture on the left shows the size relations between Ferra/Torr and a regular person. I was kind of thinking of going with a bigger scale and using real materials for the cloth and armor and whatnot. I work in a metal shop, so I could probably make the metal bits and bobs. Again, I have no idea if that would be a nightmare or not. Thanks, Me
