Your opinion on this DOWNGRADE of and airsoft gun ?!?

Hi ... as usual my another airsoft rifle is to powerful for the site rules. Because it's NEW, iw ould like to avoid open it and the gear box as well and change the spring. Or to clip the spring. What about to make a small hole in the valve that is pushing the BB in the barrel ??? With those small/fine drill bits (0.3 - 0.6 mm) ??? That should make the pressure smaller, you wouldn't have to fight with the spring and it would be cheaper to replace it ?!?! Do I see it to optimistic or do you think it could work ??? Thanks ...

gET RID OF wINDOWS 8?

Sorry for the damn caps-lock! My sister bought a laptop- after many years of my urgings and advise...(Compaq CQ58). Nice machine, but the damn thing is loaded with windows 8. (no, not -pro!) Normally, I would format the drive, en subsequently install pirated Windows 7! But in this environment, nothing works, and nothing is what it seems! How to format the W8 Drive? I want to get rid of the W8 installation, wipe the drive clean, and install W7! Windows 8 has, for me, in 2 occasions, proven to be a burden, incompatible with performing any real work,. Many pirated programs, always performing fine, suddenly present huge problems-like deadlines of 30 days appearing: after years of use!!! It has a mind of its own: screens popping up (unable to click it away!). I never needed 'apps' and still have no idea what they are and why I would need them! After this very negative experience, there is only 1 desire: Get rid of windows 8!!!  How???

Downgrading a Windows 8 Tablet to run Windows 7?

Hello Everyone, I am trying to downgrade a HP Elitepad 900 to run on Windows 7 instead of Windows 8. (*Note - There are some reasons outside my control that dictate using Windows 7) I know that this device "should" be ok to run windows 7 it's just the drivers I am having some troubles with. Has anyone had any success with this type of thing and if so where can I get the drivers for this? I haven't installed anything yet for I want to make sure I don't brick the device. I am downgrading my laptop, (Acer Extensa 4420), back to XP from Vista. Please help with detailed steps!

I am downgrading my laptop, (Acer Extensa 4420), from Vista to XP (Windows XP Essentials 2 Professional)I wanted to know what exactly I need to do. I have a back up of my drivers, both on CD and Flash drive just in case, and I have been reading this guide on how to do so.https://www.instructables.com/id/How-to-UPGRADE-from-Vista-to-Windows-XP-on-an-Acer/But before I do anything, I want to know if I have everything in order, because this is my personal/school laptop and only means for internet. The main part I am worried about is looking in my device manager for what AHCI Disc controller I have. I'm worried that I will not have reconfigured the BIOS right on the XP installation and that I might mess up my computer entirely. Please help me with some good instructions on just what I should do! Thanks!

How to fix Windows 7 laptop after downgrading from Windows 10?

I recently upgraded  to windows 10 to try out the new OS. However I found that I preferred my old windows 7 OS better. Thus, I decided to revert back to my old operation system. I went into settings and under recovery found where it said "Go back to Windows 7" and clicked on it. I let it go about its business and when I come back, my computer no longer starts up. It repeatedly gives me an error along the lines of "The computer encountered an unexpected error. Windows installation cannot proceed. To install Windows, click 'OK' to restart the computer , and then restart the installation." But when I click okay, the computer simply restarts and I get the same message again.  The problem is that I do not have an external backup of all of my files because I did not expect anything like this to happen. If there is any way I can solve this problem without losing the files that I have I am all ears. Please provide any help or suggestions you can as I need to get my laptop up and running again. The laptop is an Acer Aspire 7750G-9807 running Windows 7 Home Premium. Please help, anything in greatly appreciated!

12 or 20 ton bottle jack for home made cider press (please)? Answered

I'm making a homemade cider apple press with a pommace bucket of 30cm diameter and 30cm deep. I'm wondering if a 12ton or 20ton bottle jack would be best to squeeze all that lovely juice out? (Forget the frame construction as I can change that to suit ;-) The reason for the query is that the 12ton bottle jack is only 8kg but the 20ton jack is 14kg - a difference serious enough for me to consider downgrading. Do you have a bottle jack press or knowledge of them? Do you think 12 or 20 tons is better for the size bucket I've said (30cm dia x 30cm high)? Thank you very much for reading me.

Arduino pro micro RFID and servo

I've successfully implemented Door Unlock system described in this tutorial. At first I used Arduino Uno and RFID RC522 Reader and MG90S Micro servo. When I used Arduino Uno with Arduino Pro Micro for arduino ATmega32U4 5V/16MHz, the RFID reader stops wirking after pluging the servo. Since Arduino Pro Micro have only 5v output, I used resistors to downgrade 5v to 3v in order to poser the RFID reader. I used same output 'vcc' to select 5v for the servo and 3v converted to the reader. The problem is that each component woks perfectly independent each other, however, when I place them together they stop working.

GBA owns the DS!

Hello? What happened? The PSP and DSi are all well and good but in my mind GBA games own them all! Sure, most are 2D and they cannot compete graphically with it's bigger cousins, but I would own my Gameboy Micro over a DS anyday (and I can say this genuinley because I had enough money to buy either a DS lite or a Gameboy micro and I chose the micro). I say this because compare a Sonic advance game to a Sonic Rush game. From a neutral perspective I found Sonic advance much more enjoyable than the DS version: It is simple (only 1 screen to focus on!) and none of these faffy side missions. And I would rather play SMB advance 3 than play some downgraded NFS for PSP. And let's not forget the biggest advantage of the GBM: PORTABILITY! It is the only true pcket console.

Power Mac G4 Freezing

Again my Power Mac G4 is acting up again.  This time it freezes usually after about an hour and a half of use.  When monitoring activity monitor, the process called SustemUIServer turns red, and the computer freezes, also the CPU's shut down completely.  If I an watching a video the sound will repeat in a little clip over and over again like a broken record.  I have downgraded the computer from 2Gb of RAM to 1.5 as one of my sticks of RAM was bad, so obviously it is not a RAM problem. Yes I have ran various RAM testing programs such as MemTest86, and that had no issues.  Also with YouTube videos the video will freeze and the mouse wont move.  I will post specs of the mac soon so you know exactly what we are working with. And for anyone wondering, it's running Mac OS 10.5.8, Leopard

How do you cook a steak on a cast-iron grill pan? Answered

I bought a cast-iron pan with the little elevated parts to make it more like a grill since I would have to go use a community grill and usually I am just cooking for myself. I have tried different recipes and have either found it's way too done, or just not cooked right (and still cold and red in some spots). I think I am getting closer, by searing it at the highest temp my oven can get for a few minutes on each side, but for a decent cut (around an inch) it seems that isn't actually cooked, and then I put it in the oven for what I heard was a short amount of time (I like medium-rare to medium steaks) and it was very well done... Any one have any recipes that works well for them? Also how do I not fill my house with smoke when I try to sear the steak?

Finally, Javascript & DOM more powerfull than what I thought ...

.Hi ...I needed to quickly code a tiny tool-application, but I did not want to spend days and nights learning the API of a new GUI (under linux), neither I wanted to fight with usual C/C++ bugs, memory leaks and crashes, neither I wanted to learn a new scripting language like Python or Perl ...I wanted to do simple and fast, and if possible using my current knowledges : my webbrowser would do the GUI, and PHP would be my programming language. At first sight, I did not consider Javascript as a serious (or main) option, because I've kept very bad memories from Internet Explorer that I mistakenly considered as "the reference" ... But Mozila based browsers are more compatible with W3C than IE !So, finally, to my great surprise, I've made my app-tool 100% client side .......................... I don't even need PHP.However, when I run it on IE, it does not work as expected .....And my question is : for the sake of compatibility, what's the best strategy ?1) "downgrading" the scripts to make them compatible with every targeted web-browsers ?2) writing several version of the scripts, one for each web-browser ?Dilemma ... Dilemma ...

Why do I need a switch for a solar battery/usb charger?

I just browsed online and skimmed through other peoples' projects and failed to notice everyone using a switch. I then thought about it and my 4 solar cells where scavenged from lawn lights that used a light sensitive switch (can't think of the word at the moment). However I had already put my idea to work (without a switch) and I drained the batteries to around 1v a cell by charging my phone over night, and then I happily placed my charger out in the sun without anything hooked up via usb and when watching voltage it was going up at an ok rate. Well hours later I go back to check on it and the voltage dropped back down, now my cells are under 1v a cell. The solar panel is hooked up positive to the battery pack positive, there is a diode between, then after that connection a usb female connector is put in after that, and they are all grounded to the same line. I am confused as to where the batteries could have drained to, and why everything can't be in parallel, although I admit I am pretty newbish, but the logic still doesn't make sense to me. Thank you for your time. (sorry the image looks like it was drawn b a 3 year old)

Removing original Gameboy buttons, mounting them into fabric - best way?

Hi all Well, after considering installing a working Gameboy into a bag, I have downgraded my plan due a sincere lack of soldering experience/ability (as in, I've never done it before). So, to keep my theme and still make an awesome hangbag, I've decided to mount just the buttons from an original Gameboy into a console-shaped fabric applique. However, the technical side stumps me. I've seen a how-to on getting to the PCBs, but I'm under the impression the 'click' of the buttons is because of a mechanism underneath them. Would there be a way to preserve this mechanism if mounted through fabric (maybe through an eyelet)? I'd also love to keep the switch and have it power on an LED 'power light', but I'm not sure of that yet as it involves electronics and I've not experimented for fear of ruining the only original Gameboy I have current access to. It was only £5 inc. shipping but I'd rather not wreck it needlessly. Additional: Slide 11 of 12 of this explains the buttons, but doesn't help me mount them: http://www.pcworld.com/article/162588/gadget_autopsy_the_nintendo_game_boy.html Presumably the 'springy' feel to the buttons is caused by the silicone pad underneath them, but I wouldn't know how to mount this between two layers of fabric. Thanks for any help, chaps and chapettes :)

The new interface just made this website much worse.

What is it these days, it's like a competition that big websites want to change their visual design just for the sake of change even though the previous design was extremely clear and functional, and recently more often than not, the new design is a downgrade. Why fix something that wasn't broken? Now everything is less intuitive, you can't find anything, you have to do a lot more scrolling, and having to look at that makes your eyes sore sooner, you just want to quit. I get it that you're all obsessed with trying to make everything look like mobile phone UIs but it's a terrible idea: we're not all that obsessed with phones, plenty of us still prefer a proper computer because its large display allows us to see more things at the same time so there's no need to scroll to and fro and you can make connections between a lot of things simultaneously.Having to scroll through a lot of material because you can only see very little at a time is extremely counterproductive when you're trying to grasp the holistic picture of something, work on something that requires working memory. Using a phone UI on proper computer displays is an absolute nightmare and makes you want to not use websites that waste your time with the hide and seek game and sense-irritating visuals. It helps a little bit if I downsize the font of the entire page by several notches but because everything gets smaller, the texts that were small to begin with, will get too small, and that still doesn't fix the unintuitive randomness of how the page is composed now.I'd really appreciate it if users could at least choose which "skin" or UI to use for the site so it would be accessible to everyone.

Wii - Play Backup Games without modchip -- System Menu V 4.0 ?

Please note: I am beginner at this. Ok, here is what I have done: 1. I have upgraded my System Menu to version 4.0 using the update option from the Wii2. Following this instructable: https://www.instructables.com/id/S9RV0FWFN4H8OED/ I have installed cIOS36 Rev7. This means that I have also installed Homebrew Channel (using Bannerbomb exploit ). 3. Following the same instructable I have got to the point where I got the Error ret-2011 which a lot of other people (with System Menu 4.0) got: " tried to install the 04-BackupLauncher0.3g+_249-NeoRame.rar like instructed below.I get a installing ticket...ERROR! (ret = -2011)"4. After that everything went down the drain. I have tried to follow this instructable: https://www.instructables.com/id/SQHX9S3FUNOXOKE/ with both versions (offline and online), but I kept getting the -2011 error. 5. I have tried to follow other tutorials out there but I did not get any further because of different errors. Now I do not know what version of cIOS or other files I have installed on my Wii.I have tried to update again my System Menu 4.0 in case I have messed up anything but my Wii says that I already have the latest version installed. So my questions are: 1. How do I know what version of the Files I have and whether I have messed up my System Menu ? And how do I get back to the original System Menu 4.0 of the files? 2. Since the aim of this entire thing is to play backup games, how do I fix this and how do I get my Wii to play the backup games, from backup DVDs (I've seen that it might be possible to play them from USB devices, I am not interested in that right now). Also, I do not want to install any other homebrew applications (like DVD players or video players).3. If in the process I have to downgrade my System Menu, what are the exact steps to do that? Thank you very much for your help and I hope someone will be able to help me make things work !If you think you can help but you need more information, please comment on my question and I will provide as much information as I can

techy w00tness - a day of computer tech guy

Some1 brought the following quote to another forum i am inits sure been copy pasted alot of times before me. the original author is unknownI was working in a job running the campus email system some years ago when I got a call from the chairman of the statistics department. "We're having a problem sending email out of the department." "What's the problem?" I asked. "We can't send mail more than 500 miles," the chairman explained. I choked on my latte. "Come again?" "We can't send mail farther than 500 miles from here," he repeated. "A little bit more, actually. Call it 520 miles. But no farther." "Um... Email really doesn't work that way, generally," I said, trying to keep panic out of my voice. One doesn't display panic when speaking to a department chairman, even of a relatively impoverished department like statistics. "What makes you think you can't send mail more than 500 miles?" "It's not what I *think*," the chairman replied testily. "You see, when we first noticed this happening, a few days ago--" "You waited a few DAYS?" I interrupted, a tremor tinging my voice. "And you couldn't send email this whole time?" "We could send email. Just not more than--" "--500 miles, yes," I finished for him, "I got that. But why didn't you call earlier?" "Well, we hadn't collected enough data to be sure of what was going on until just now." Right. This is the chairman of *statistics*. "Anyway, I asked one of the geostatisticians to look into it--" "Geostatisticians..." "--yes, and she's produced a map showing the radius within which we can send email to be slightly more than 500 miles. There are a number of destinations within that radius that we can't reach, either, or reach sporadically, but we can never email farther than this radius." "I see," I said, and put my head in my hands. "When did this start? A few days ago, you said, but did anything change in your systems at that time?" "Well, the consultant came in and patched our server and rebooted it. But I called him, and he said he didn't touch the mail system." "Okay, let me take a look, and I'll call you back," I said, scarcely believing that I was playing along. It wasn't April Fool's Day. I tried to remember if someone owed me a practical joke. I logged into their department's server, and sent a few test mails. This was in the Research Triangle of North Carolina, and a test mail to my own account was delivered without a hitch. Ditto for one sent to Richmond, and Atlanta, and Washington. Another to Princeton (400 miles) worked. But then I tried to send an email to Memphis (600 miles). It failed. Boston, failed. Detroit, failed. I got out my address book and started trying to narrow this down. New York (420 miles) worked, but Providence (580 miles) failed. I was beginning to wonder if I had lost my sanity. I tried emailing a friend who lived in North Carolina, but whose ISP was in Seattle. Thankfully, it failed. If the problem had had to do with the geography of the human recipient and not his mail server, I think I would have broken down in tears. Having established that--unbelievably--the problem as reported was true, and repeatable, I took a look at the sendmail.cf file. It looked fairly normal. In fact, it looked familiar. I diffed it against the sendmail.cf in my home directory. It hadn't been altered--it was a sendmail.cf I had written. And I was fairly certain I hadn't enabled the "FAIL_MAIL_OVER_500_MILES" option. At a loss, I telnetted into the SMTP port. The server happily responded with a SunOS sendmail banner. Wait a minute... a SunOS sendmail banner? At the time, Sun was still shipping Sendmail 5 with its operating system, even though Sendmail 8 was fairly mature. Being a good system administrator, I had standardized on Sendmail 8. And also being a good system administrator, I had written a sendmail.cf that used the nice long self-documenting option and variable names available in Sendmail 8 rather than the cryptic punctuation-mark codes that had been used in Sendmail 5. The pieces fell into place, all at once, and I again choked on the dregs of my now-cold latte. When the consultant had "patched the server," he had apparently upgraded the version of SunOS, and in so doing *downgraded* Sendmail. The upgrade helpfully left the sendmail.cf alone, even though it was now the wrong version. It so happens that Sendmail 5--at least, the version that Sun shipped, which had some tweaks--could deal with the Sendmail 8 sendmail.cf, as most of the rules had at that point remained unaltered. But the new long configuration options--those it saw as junk, and skipped. And the sendmail binary had no defaults compiled in for most of these, so, finding no suitable settings in the sendmail.cf file, they were set to zero. One of the settings that was set to zero was the timeout to connect to the remote SMTP server. Some experimentation established that on this particular machine with its typical load, a zero timeout would abort a connect call in slightly over three milliseconds. An odd feature of our campus network at the time was that it was 100% switched. An outgoing packet wouldn't incur a router delay until hitting the POP and reaching a router on the far side. So time to connect to a lightly-loaded remote host on a nearby network would actually largely be governed by the speed of light distance to the destination rather than by incidental router delays. Feeling slightly giddy, I typed into my shell: $ units 1311 units, 63 prefixes You have: 3 millilightseconds You want: miles 558.84719 / 0.0017893979 "500 miles, or a little bit more."

Post what features, functions or changes you would like to see when using Instructables.com

The recent upgrades to this website caused some confusion as well frustration for those who though long requested features would be included. It seems that neither our code monkeys, nor those suggestiong changes and improvements are aware of the many requests and suggestions we made over the years. So let's help them out by posting what we think is bad, needs improvement or simply what we need to properly make use of this great website.Maybe within the next 3 to 10 years some might get implemented ;)I go first, shall I?1. DesignThe recent changes seemed to be solely target on people with little skills and using tablets / mobile phones. As common practise in standard forums all over the web the user should have the option to change a different layout based on the device he uses.Preferably with an automatic detection that can be overruled in the settings on the YOU pages.Someone on a small tablet will certainly welcome huge fonts and massive buttons.Maybe even the many "hidden" functions that only appear when scrolling or doing other weird things. But if you are like me and use a proper PC on a 4K screen this layout is not really usable at all.Nothing fits, nothing can be made to fit - all is fixed and pre-defined.If you really try to improve the user experience than don't block those out who started all this and still use a PC for most of their online needs!Adding different layouts is not really a hard thing unless you insist on custom made software to run all this here - than it takes efford to show you care about basic desing features!2. Forums and questionsUp until recently we had different sections for our forum topics.By far not enough but at least for most things there was a right place. Now it all one big mix of everything and still no proper sorting is possible.Topics/Questions that are a few days old wander down the list to be never seen again unless you love to scroll or follow only your Email notifications.Worst of all we now can't even see who made the last reply. The sorting inside is much better but still we lack custom sorting options or at least highlighting post/replies made after the last check of the topic. Not userfriendly at all, just much more complicated to find what you need - unless of course it was only done to get more topics and questions without caring what happens to them.3. EmbeddingAdding Links to other website is mostly fine but when it comes to pictures or videos I feel reverted back into the 90's.Everything must be done the way the developers here think is best. You want to explain something in detail with a lot of pics within your text to make it easy to follow and understand?Good luck as it will only work if you are fluent in basic HTML.A different font to really highlight something or even colored text? No way....Prefer to host your images offsite at a proper hoster?Again hope you know your HTML and that your hoster offers direct image links that are permanent...Time has moved on and user might not like to be treated as child and being constraint in the worst possible way.If someone want an image within the text then let him do so by drag and drop, better even to allow the text to flow around the image - really nice to explain an image with text on the side instead of at the top or bottom ;)The library is quite nice - if you like obscured filenames and no chance of sorting images by Instructables/topics/questions.Just the easiest way for the programming: by date with autogenerated filenames - back to the future ROFL4. EditingMade a spelling mistake in a reply or topic/question? Bad luck...Need to add some vital info to something you just posted? Why would you want to do that?Want to simply paste something you wrote up in Notepadd++ or some other editor? Great, if you like it all messed up...Even expecting to have editing options while writing is downgraded to less than what you Email client would allow for a funny bday greeting....Again: We are no longer in the 90's!You want users to be active and enjoy this website than give than what they started asking for many years ago!5. SortingAs mentioned before we need proper sorting options for replies, questions, topics...What is the point of having an active topic that runs down to page 4 or 5 of the list?Where is the most basic info in this list? Like who did last action, when did it happen? Why is it still impossible to quickly see the last replies/postings?With sometimes over 30 postings and even more replies it is next to impossible to find the stuff. If sorting options are above paygrade then at least iclude highlighting everything done after the last visit of this topic/question.And while at it, please give us back the forum sections and add some more ;)6. FeedbackAs said too many times: The developers/code monkeys need to find a way to communicated with each other and the users here! Can't even count how many times I heard things like: "We are working on it", "I will forward this to the developers", "We might include this in a future upgrade"....Seriously: What is the point of having (had) a bugs and feedback section if everyone now claims this all totally new and that nothing was ignored?Again to me it looks like "Let's do some majoy changes as my kid struggles to use this website on the tablet, while at it let's also hide some features and functions without announcing any changes we make!"It is confusing to say the least and I fail to understand why this website should be only optimised for people who can barely use a mobile device. Some of the users here might actually want to be able to have modern features that do beyong big buttons and oversized text.7. Featuring and contestsWhen I started here a featured Instructable was something that was standing out from the rest.Only in a few cases external links or certain providers of parts where present. Now even totally incomplete and impossible to follow Ibles find a way to get featured.Same for stuff that was done (better) at least 20 times before. Some spelling mistakes might be fine but if I struggle to understand what the user was writing I wonder how whoever featured it figured it all out.It often seems all that counts is a catchy header and some nice pics on the first two or three steps is enough :(But lately far too many "Instructables" are popping that not only get featured almost instantly but also only exist to advertise for a product or service - usually even indicated by the "username" behind it and the "homepage" linking to shop...Desperate much for money and not even honest enough to clearly indicate the advertisements or to push them into an advertising section?Similar story for contests :(Every now and then I get an invitaton to help judging a contest.Considering I only get to see the runners for the finals I often wonder how they got there. Some entries that (at least in my opinion) really stand out are not even in the list, instead I get some crappy ones with little efford for the workmanship or presentation - just a catching title and some nice pics. And when going for counters I see another problem:Some of the entries get featured and of course attract much more attention this way.I think it would be only fair to leave all contest entries untouched until a contest is over.It is hard enough to understand how the selection of winners made it into my ballot but copies, bad stuff and so on should not make it.And the fair go with featuring would mean the hits for an entry are not faked by being featured - feature it when the contest is over1 ;)And no, I don't try to insult or offend anyone here, just being honest and direct.Angry? Sure.Disappointed? Of course. Why? Because it could have been all soooo much better if someone would have cared to listen....
