Drawer Project

Does anyone have a Drawer Project? I have a space under the kitchen sink. The dimension is 15cm x 51cm x 52 cm. This space should be used for a dishwasher. I have seen some drawer projects using wood glue, but I would like to use screws instead of glue. This drawer will be used for cutlery, so it is good to have some divisions for fork, spoon, big knifes etc. As the whole kithcne furniture is white, the drawer shall be white for sure. I would like some tips such as track instalation, handle installation, bottom installation, finishing etc I intend to use my new Dremel to make it. Thank you!

Getting Power Into A Drawer???

Here's a strange question that I hope someone can answer. I've got a project which has a drawer that has line voltage going into it. My goal is to be able to remove the drawer by unplugging the line voltage. My initial thoughts were using a ribbon power cable but I can't seem to find those. Other two options are coil cord or a retractable cord. In other words, the power needs to stay with the drawer as it opens and closes. Any ideas, thoughts or experiences on how to get line voltage easily from where it plugs in in the back of the main housing and keep it connected within a drawer compartment so I can power a few outlets and other things??? Thanks in advance to the geniuses and experts out there.

Self opening-closing drawer

I'm hoping someone can help. I have a handicap that makes opening drawers and cupboards impossible via touch. Aside from foot. I've been trying to come up with a solution for this for a while now.  I need something that takes up little, if any drawer space. Is relatively cheap (since it needs to be replicated across multiple locations). Can be opened/stopped/closed via a single foot pedal. And that will stop if it encounters some sort of obstruction. Actuators that are able to open drawers to the size needed are very expensive, and I'm unsure if they have the stop function in case of blockage. Anyone have any suggestions/

Funky cabinet drawer pulls

Hi, I am in the process of re-doing my kitchen and I have need for about 40 cabinet pulls/knobs. I want something interesting and am leaning towards an existing flat-top pull/knob and affixing 1/2" glass squares to it.  The pull/knob I'm considering is 1/2" wide and 4 3/4" length. Questions: Would Expoxy be the best adhesive? What could I do that would make the pull/knob smooth so that the cracks between the pieces of glass don't cut any fingers?  Is resin a possibility? You Instructable-ites are so smart and creative, I can't imagine getting a more creative answer from anywhere else Help!!

I am super new at woodworking, but I am trying to build a set of drawers similar to this: http://drp.ly/EpZ0 Two questions I was hoping to get help on... 1) When making the actual drawers, how much space do I want to leave on the sides so it is able to catch the track? Is half an inch the correct amount?  2) I know it is really hard to tell from the picture, but does the inside drawer track connect to a side wall? Or most likely a bottom board that uses ball bearings?

What's The Best Way to Organize Nuts / Bolts / Washers / Fastners? Answered

As a fairly capable "do-it-your-selfer" I still struggle with organizing my substantial collection of fastners of all types and sizes. I have a dedicated 14 drawer tool box with 41" W X 20"D X 2"H drawers in which I now just throw all of the fasterners of a given type, size or material in a zip lock bag.  When I need something I have always have to open all the drawers to "maybe" find what I'm sure I already have.  I know drawer dividers and lables are part of the solution but I'm not sure how best to make them nor how to "lay out" the various sizes, materials etc... Maybe you have had this problem and solved it.  All suggestions are welcome & thanks in advance.

Spring Loaded Arm Blade without Drawer Slide

Can anyone help me with instructions on how to do a spring loaded hidden arm blade without using a drawer slide? Looking for something a bit more refined. Also, I am looking not for it to use as is, but to spring out the blade and then be able to grasp it with hand and remove it to use. So I guess, more of a spring loaded holder for a knife, because really, trying to use an arm blade like this to do any real damage in an actual fight, would be difficult. Thanks

Id Like help using a Linear Actuator and a locking mechanism with only one or two momentary switches, not toggle. Ideas?

Hello, I am healthcare professional and a DIY enthusiast, but not mechanically or electrically inclined.  Keep that in mind with your answers.   I am redoing my closet in the next few weeks and do not have the space or money for a large gun safe.  My idea is that when building this closet I will build a stand up drawer using several slide mechanisms for the motion.  To keep this hidden and secure and darn right cool I envision using a linear actuator to open and close this hidden drawer.  I will also be using one to two electric strike modules to keep this secure.  My goal is to have one secret hidden BUTTON (not switch) that will trigger the locking mechanism and shortly after if not simultaneously activate the linear actuator.  The key here is I want to push a momentary button, not hold it, not use switches ect, just hold it until the drawer is completely open.   Second motion will be either the same button or a different MOMENTARY BUTTON is depressed activating a reversal on the actuator until fully closed in which the locking mechanism should activate (always closed).   That is my goal, I'm open to servos and such if anyone can SHOW me how it is done.  If you can show me wiring that would be best as words just don't work as much as pictures or videos for me.  I greatly appreciate all your help in advance and please remember NO TOGGLE Switches or factory wired remote controls.  I'm open to all ideas except those.  Thanks again guys.  Love your work and ideas.   T

Clever, inexpensive shelves and storage built under attic sloping roofs?

I have my office in an attic, with long sloping ceilings. The space under the slope is wasted, and ends up being a catch-all for junk. I'd like a clever and inexpensive way to built custom shelves that make the best use of the triangular space (drawers on the bottom that use the full length to the edge, for tripods, boompoles, etc.) I'd love something that includes a concealed pegboard for cables. It could be a mixture of cupboards, and drawers and recessed spaces. Does anyone have a good solution or IKEA hack idea? Thank you!

I think I will attempt an hidden blade

I've seen the builds on the internet using a drawer slider mechanism or one from a toolbox. They are cool, but I want to try one with a really powerful locking motion. So as I sat thinking on how to do this, I discovered that the answer was right in my hands. A clicky pen. It shoots out quickly, locks in place sturdy, and then shoots back in. I think that combining this "clicky pen" mechanism with the drawer slider mechanism, I could really do it. Any ideas/tips/criticism/comments on what to do here?

I am thinking of making a precision stylus for my LG marquee phone and my Acer Iconia tablet.

My fingers are too big to easily type on the virtual keyboard. I like the fingertip style, but I want something that is functional, not kitchee like a pen wrapped in tin foil. will the copper foil used in art glass projects work? Is there a conductive paint? How small can the tip be? I do not have a drawer full of arcane electronic parts.  I will have to buy new materials in mass-market stores. (I recently moved, no drawer of nubbies or left overs.)

Stairs that double as dressers

Here are some plans for modifying your stairs so that each step can also hold a drawer for extra storage of all your stuff. The things you put inside would have to be of the occasional-to-rare use since these look like a pain to have to deal with on a regular basis. Other concerns are just how well the heat will be kept above or below and if they can be spring loaded so you don't step into an open drawer on the way down the stairs and brain yourself on the landing. Oh yeah, the risers that get removed are often providing structural support for the step above so be aware of that as well. But if you can pull it off safely, it's a neat trick. link

computer desk

Anybody interested in an instructable on building this desk that I'm going to build in the near future, it takes 1 and 1/2 sheats of 3/4th inch plywood to build. It's wide enough to hold up to 3  21 inch monitors. It can hold just about any mid tower computer  nicely, and under it i will be putting in a drawer but these aren't the final plans so I don't want to design a drawer just yet, next to the keyboard pullout would probably be a place to store documents, or in my case drawings. and on the right you'd have your multi purpose shelving may end-up making the spaces non permanent. Dunno we'll see how things go, I may not even use these plans.

Avoiding corrosion when bolting galvanized steel drawer slides to aluminum for camper van bed

Hey guys,Going to build this bed:or something very similar. She says she has 6 sliders at 100lbs each, but I imagine she has 6 slides at 100lbs per pair. Either way, I've already purchased 3 pairs of 500lb drawer slides. The problem is, they're galvanized steel. How do I attach them to aluminum L beams? I can use some thick mil rubber tape between the two materials, but what about the fasteners? Some sort of plastic washer and polyurethane sealant around the head and threads touching the galvanized rail side? What should I use to isolate one from the other?FWIW, I'll probably use 6061 for the frame, which I believe has an anodic index of .9-.95, and the zinc rails are, I believe, 1.25. They're within or close to the .25 threshold so am I worrying about nothing?Cheers

How to make a bar spectrum analyzer (or graphic equalizer) from a dresser? Answered

I have an Ikea dresser with smoked glass panels recessed in the front of each drawer, and there are six identical drawers stacked on top of each other (www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/40129591). I was looking at it the other day, and thought, "Hey, why not try to make it into an EQ?" I'd like to have it driven either by a line level signal (in which case, I'd still want to be able to pull the signal out the other side, unchanged) or by a microphone/pickup of some kind.  So my questions are:  What would be the simplest way to make the controller to drive the EQ bar lights? Is it feasible to use incandescent light bulbs to light the glass, or would it be difficult/impossible to sync them precisely to music?

Hey I've designed a body/ frame for a 3d printer/ CNC I'm thinking about building. I'm using this design because I already have the materials ( and most of the electronics like motors and drivers too). Note: I've designed it so that the drawer slides (on X and Y axis, NOT Z axis) are pointing the opposite way, so that the axis is never just "hovering" when the drawer slide is at it's outer postion (look at the pictures, hope it makes sence) please come with some comments / inputs thanks :) btw. sorry for the amateur like design/ drawing I just needed a quick draft so I made it in Google SketchUp, I didn't want to use the time on designing it Autodesk Inventor
