Anyone know of some professional DSP Software for mac os x?

Does anyone know of really good dsp software for mac os x? I tried iwow plugin for itunes but it added a nasty crackly sound in the music, almost like it was lower bit rate (Resampleing it?). I've got a nice stereo, a decent mac, and good cables, so I wanna be able to tweak my sound. Any ideas? -Punk

What's the most cheapest way to flash programs onto a DSP chip?

I'm thinking of using the C5000 series, or possibly some other low power chip. Would taking something like the eZDSP USB tool, removing the soldered chip and putting a socket in it's place be a good idea? Thanks!

Another idea for a piece-tracking chess board

RFID-based chess boards have their merits of course, but would be pretty expensive and could potentially suffer from antenna cross-talk. Furthermore, the relatively immense amount of information carried compared to what's required makes RFID sort of overkill. Reed switches have the opposite problem, only carrying a single bit of information per square (piece present y/n). It seems that what you want is something in-between (six kinds of pieces, two colors, so you only need four bits of entropy per square/piece).My idea is the following:Each square is a circuit containing a signal generator connected to four bandpass filters at frequencies f1,f2,f3,f4 (multiplexed of course, so that we only need a few signal generators/filters)Each piece has a RLC circuit in the foot (with fairly large inductance)The circuit in each piece is tuned to resonate at frequency f1, f2, f3 or f4, or any combination of the fourTo poll a square for information, we mux to the square's circuit and generate sin(f1) + sin(f2) + sin(f3) + sin(f4). Now we should be able to discern which piece is on the square based on the frequency response observed at the output of the bandpass filtersIf I'm not completely missing something, the resulting PCB should be comparatively cheap to construct. But I'd love to hear if this is a less elegant solution than I think. Are there any problems with this idea?

How do you use this relay module?

Ways to accept bluetooth, USB, Airplay audio inputs to an Amplifier

Hi Please don't shoot me for asking this. I am getting confused. I am building an amp using TA2020, with guidance from datasheet. The input pins accept analog sources. I would like to know how to add Bluetooth, USB, Airplay input support to the amp, since their output is digital (if i am correct). Simply by adding different modules, would it suffice? Now also, where does I2S, DSP fit in. Thanks

DIY DVR (PVR ?)

No, not the mythTV variety, but the real deal. I've been messing with uCLinux on various chip, which led to a vague daydream that I sketched out on the train today. These are my notes on a personal DVR. I say personal because its design for MY needs, and not the typical user. It also happens that no commercial DVR will meet these specs without being mired in lawsuits (see replayTV). Why an embedded solution and not MythTV? I've had mythtv boxes, they can be a lot of fun, and a lot of frustration. Mostly, I don't have room for a second computer, I don't want to use a ton of energy to record a few programs, and no matter where it ends up in my apartment, I will be able to hear it at night. MyDVR: I already watch all my TV on the computer. Either by TV tuner or Xvid. I don't need a Tivo style DVR that will play back content on a TV with a nice menu display. I need a mass storage device that records TV shows. I want Xvid. MPEG2 is huge. Its also kinda ugly. I really really like the look of the XVID codec. It takes a reasonable amount of space for a decent encode (~178 meg per ~20 minutes HDTV). I want multiple tuners...I mean, what if there are two (or five) programs to record simultaneously? Basic design: A motherboard with 32 bit CPU running uClinux (probably a chip from Freescale). These usually have USB and an ethernet MAC (but no PHY). USB 2.0 mass storage device emulation on the USB port. This way the unit can be hooked up to a PC for easy video extraction. This might also have some configuration abilities, but that would require a custom mass storage controller driver - YUCK! Ethernet with HTTP server for show scheduling. IDE interface to a big hard drive. The tuners and encoders would be on add-in cards. The add-in cards would have: 1. A tv tuner. 2. A DSP with xvid encoding. 3. Probably a small uC to control the DSP and tuner. Whats already in my knowledge domain (stuff that I already know about -or- could I really do it?): 1. I've been messing with uClinux for a while. What fun. 2. USB mass storage controller implementations are numerous. check. 3. Embedded HTTP server - check. But I have not routed a PCB using an external PHY. This looks messy. Perhaps a ENC28J60 instead? 4. I've been reading up on some XVID DSP implementations. There are also some commercial MP4 chips, but I bet they're pricey! 5. I picked up a bare PAL tuner at the surplus shop. Time to play. There are a few things that make this project easier than a Tivo clone. There is no video output. No need to do fancy display overlays synced to the incoming/decoding video stream. This is encode only - no need to load, decode, and display the XVID. I'm kinda testing the waters on this project. I'm going to get some DSPs and try to do real-time XVID compression. Also, I need to figure out the tuner card. Any suggestions within the scope of this project would be awesome! Especially if you've worked with uClinux and have a processor recommendation.

Voltage quality recorder? Answered

Hello, i am an electronics hobbyist, and want to develop an system which is an voltage quality recorder, i mean it measures the various voltage disturbances like transients, swells, sags, THD, etc, I was comfortable in analyzing the concept and with the software too. but for the hardware implementation i am confused of which kind of TI microcontroller or microprocessor is suitable for my project. i will work on the real time calculations and will use FFT in analyzing the voltage.I am planning on dsp processors of C2000 series of TI. But not able to wisely choose them. On what major parameters should i look upon while choosing them. I would be helped if anyone can suggest me which one would precisely be used for this cause. Any more suggestions on how to proceed with it are welcomed. Thank you.

Hi I'm working on TMS320F2812, a 32-bit DSP. I need to interface an a 8X1 LED with my Processor through the GPIO's of the processor. The GPIO's are connected to the LED's through a 74HC273 D-Latch. Can anyone give me pointers on how I must go about the same ?? I have a couple of doubts : 1. My GPIO pins are wired to the D0 to D7 pins of the D-latch. The Outputs Q0 to Q7 are wired to the 8X1 LED Board. My confusion is : how do i ensure connectivity of the GPIO's with pins (D0 - D7) of the latch through Software ( C- routine ) ??? i.e, Do i need to define a structure with the address of D0 - D7 so that I actually realise the connection between them through software ?? Will appreciate if anyone can give me any pointers on how to go about the same. Any sample codes will be of immense help tooo. thanks skn

I want to get more out of my sound

I've been getting kinda bored with how my music sounds, and I have LOTS of it on my computer. Some is really pushing the line as far as the quality (128kbps bleh), but most of my music is fairly good quality, some of it flac rips of my cds. I can listen to a good cd on a good cd player on my stereo and it has clean basslines and no distortion in the treble, and no crackle unless it was recorded right into the track. But on my mac, mostly only the high bit rate stuff sounds okay on my stereo. Stuff at 192kb/s or vbr sounds crackely and I can't stand it. I often found a lot of the times it was the EQ in iTunes, if I turned it off, sometimes the crackle would go away, has anyone found this with their mac? I have the volume down 4 notches from full, so I know it's not clipping or it would show on my stereo. I've tried surfing the inter webs for DSP software or something of that sort for my mac, but apparently all there is, is like professional mixer board software and just stuff I didn't want to get into. Why can't there be a program made for even a PC that gives you any amount of access to sliders to adjust the EQ of the sound, that doesn't sound like crap? Im not talking itunes what? 10 sliders? I want to be able to adjust like 30-60 sliders per channel, does anyone make eq software like that????
