If you have already published an instructable and want to edit it, do you have to re-publish it to make the changes appear in the published instructable?

I just suffered a minor coronary looking at the cost of text for the next semester, and was wondering if anyone here had experience using international editions for engineering courses, It would be nice to trim my cost from $600 to $300 but I don't want books I can't use.

From time to time people ask if it's OK to edit their Instructables after the contest has closed for entries? The concern being that it could be seen as cheating. The answer is YES, oh absolutely YES, you can edit as much as you want whenever you want. If you can clean up your Instructable, add more useful detail or information, or add a video, then go for it. There are a couple of reasons for this. The big reason is that the project itself, whatever was built or done for the entry, is not going to be changed by these edits. Any change will be to the presentation of that project. Of course, we also don't recommend publishing and entering an Instructable that is in disarray and making it whole over the next couple of days. It's always helpful for you to make a good first impression. The other reason that we're fine with edits is that we want authors to see each Instructable as a living document. If you realize that some information is incorrect or could be clarified, then you should be free to go in and make a change whenever you want. Many of these changes are brought about by comments from others right after publication and we don't want to hold you back from that. So I hope that clears things up for authors and if you have any more questions about it, feel free to ask away in the comments.

If you make a comment/reply and submit it, is it possible to re-enter that same comment/reply and add to or edit it. I often find I am writing what may be considered extr'a on the same comment but having to put it in a new "comment or "reply" space. This is probably annoying to others when my comments crop up too often after each other.

Hello! When I published my most recent instructable, which was last night, I realized that the first step had somehow become the intro paragraph, and so the materials picture was the cover instead of the picture I wanted. When I realized this I went into my phone and edited the entire thing so that it would be the first step instead of the intro and so that the picture I want would be the cover. However, it did not update. I was confused, so went into my computer and redid all my edits and work. It seemed to be good after that, but now it is back to being wrong. I don't know if I should redo it again because it seems my edits would be lost. Any help? Thank you so much!!!! :) Here it is https://www.instructables.com/id/Fried-Egg-Jewelry-Set

Hey, I got a suggestion for Instructables: allow comment editing. It just sucks that, if you comment, you notice you made a typo, and thus want to edit it, but the only way by doing so is deleting your old comment, leaving a (removed by author or cumminty request) behind.

Hi everybody Is there a way to edit posted comments on instructables? (yeah, I know I should use the preview button) but once the comment has been posted how could I edit it? I hate to find an error once it's posted and the only way to edit it is by deleting and re-post the comment. Sure I could copy & paste but then my links are gone and I don't want to search through websites again to reconstruct what could be a simple edit.

So, it would be super sweet to have a little "edit" link next to each step, to jump right to editing that step and save a couple of page loads, rather than just that one giant edit button. Or an all-step editor, which would be super bandwidth hoggy but also cool. -Star, from the UK, through a super-tiny intertube.

Hi, I made a collection (https://www.instructables.com/id/useful-stuff/ ) that can not be edited or unpublished. I addition, the graphical feedback after trying to add something was quite misleading by showing a green checkmark along with the error statement (see image below) Sorry for crossposting the topic to the FAQ section (in https://www.instructables.com/community/How-to-edit-my-Collections/ ) - I now realize that it must be a bug. I also tried to reproduce the error by making a new collection with the same content. However, this new collection can edited and unpublished without any problems. Any ideas? Best wishes, Lars

Is there a way to edit an already published ible so that it doesn't keep getting autosaved as changes are being made. I can just imagine somebody loading one while I've got a paragraph all in pieces figuring out a better way to word something. I know you can unpublish something, but would that cause it to lose all its comments and views?

So, I started making it But I encountered a problem.Against each component(as seen in below) I gave a link. While editing when I clicked on preview everything was aligned properly, but when I saw the full preview it looked like such a mess! Well, long story short, I can't edit my collections at all. I get this 'error, something happened' screen and it doesn't matter what device or browser I use. I know this issue has been brought up before but it hasn't been worked on since. Hopefully a few more drops in the bucket will convince the techs to look into it or at least respond with 'we're working on it'.

I have a Windows Vista Computer, and am using the Firefox browser. For some reason I'm not able to edit the Survival themed collection I have published. When I click on the edit button on its page, I get the error screen. I also can't add instructables to it directly from the page of the instructable I want to add. It keeps giving me errors, and I've tried several different instructables with the same results. The funny thing is, All my other published collections are still working fine. Can you please help me with this?

Hey everyone....I recently acquired a digital video camera and am looking for software to capture and edit. I don't need something like FinalCut - it just needs to be able to grab stuff off my camera and have basic editing capabilities. Any recommendations on something sub $50.Normally, I'd just use windows movie maker :P Unfortunately, its acting up (can't view any previews) and reformatting is not an option at the moment :P

I published a new collection. During the time it took to publish it, I got "an error has occurred". Now when I go into the collection and hit edit or try to add an additional page to the collection, I get "Something unexpected happened! If the error keeps occurring, file a bug report!"

I made this collection some time ago. At first, when I tried to edit it, it would open up, but it would get stuck in the loading screen, with the dots moving across. I tried again, the same thing happened. The next day, the same thing happened. Then, a short time later, when I open the editor, the site shows the "404: We're sorry, things break sometimes" error. So now I can't even delete the collection.

Hi all, I just wanted to share this event from the outernet project (outernet.is), which is building a free satellite library for all of humanity. In partnership with creative commons, they are looking for free or open licensed content in every language, or people to translate existing resources. These resources, continuously curated, will be down-streamed via satellite to the whole world. Also, do you think this idea is more/less/differently practical than internet.org's mission? http://editathon.outernet.is/

Because I had some time on my hands last Saturday, I decided to revisit my Slinghammer (A.K.A. the R1), but instead of just rebuilding the old gun, I decided to make it "bullpup operated." This version, the Slinghammer BE (Bullpup Edition) is more powerful, arguably more accurate, gets better range, and is less piece consuming that the first and second version. But, all of these advantages come at a cost. The Slinghammer BE does not have a adjustable stock, it is not as cool looking as the second Slinghammer version, and it is not as easy to load as the first version. Features: - Looks O.K. (IMO) - Accurate up to 80 - 90 ft. - Great ranges: 100 - 120 ft. - Modeled after the SRv3 - Very comfortable handle - Really comfortable stock There you have it. I thought that I would just let you guys know what I am working, what I'm keeping busy with, etc. Also, BE SURE TO CHECK OUT THE NEW POLLS ON MY SITE. Find them here. -The Red Book of Wesmartch

So I got an xbox 360 elite for Christmas. I set up my xbox live account and already have 75 gamerscore lol. My xbox 360 gamertag is "InvariantMedal". I'm not a serious player, but I am decent at games when I master their controls. I'll post pictures of my xbox setup in my den later on. Maybe tomorrow. What's your setup look like? *EDIT- 3/18/10* Don't expect to see me on live for a while. Some asshole broke into my house and stole my 360 and other game consoles. I did manage to get 2615 gamerscore before my 360 got stolen.

I'm working on a Robin cosplay, and I need some kind of wrist-computer set up for my iPod touch. Hopefully something fairly simple, since I really don't have much experience with nor access to major equipment. Any ideas? EDIT: Also, I still need some of the Boy Wonder's various gadgets and such. They'd mostly be just for show, but having at least some kind of decorative functionality (i.e. lights, sounds, lenses, etc.) would be nice. All opinions and ideas are very much appreciated!

Apologies if this is in the wrong section, first post although I have been lurking for years!

It might be useful to populate some sort of "what's related" display while someone is first creating their instructable (perhaps only on demand?) If this means you need to collect categories and keywords earlier, that shouldn't be TOO difficult to do. This would allow the authors to see if they are duplicating an existing instructable, and/or to gather additional details that they might find useful, and/or allow them to explicitly reference other particularly-related instructables... (huh. Is there a general purpose "find me web pages related to the following document" search algorithm? Something better than Google uses to pick ads, I'd hope? Sounds like an interesting research topic...)

I need to do some Editing with MP-4 Videos. I've been using Cyber link power director (Came free with my laptop) and I've been having some quality / Storage space issues. Seems like every time I edit a video it will take an extra %30 more space and turn out a bit blurry :( I'm fairly sure it's because I am using a format it wasn't designed for. Seems it's doubling the Bit rate and halving the Screen Resolution. ( I have No Control of either) Eventually I want a HD version for me and streaming version for YouTube, to host the Vid for my I'ble So I'm looking for a (Preferably Free) Alternative. I'm not looking for Editing Options so much as Functional Quality. I'm using a Galaxy S3. Starts are in the Pic I included
