Can anyone please tell me what type of alternator from a vehicle I need to make a wind generator, and what voltage it might kick out, and if I had it going into an iverter what could I power please.

Im am a novice at electics, i think that a coil of wire through a magnetic field will generate a charge, Yes/no? if so would a number of coils passing through one magnetic field be more or less efficient than 1 coil passing through many magnetic feilds?

I read somewhere (I dont remember where) that if electricity is put on indicator paper then it creates some kind of mark.Or is there any other kind of paper that gets maked on contact with electricity?Most importantly can I use this to wrte or draw?

This is more of a discussion then a question. Lately I have been wondering about the small amount of space that we have on Earth. In those thoughts, I began pondering about Thermodynamics (particularly, of course, the first law). Since energy can't be created nor destroyed - it only changes form - that most certainly means there is a limited amount. There's a capacity. Much like a battery, it can only hold so much energy. The Earth is essentially, then, one huge battery holding millions upon billions upon trillions upon trillions of energy units (it cannot be specified to electricity since it can change form). If that is correct, then my theory makes sense. If there is only so much energy, and electricity is energy, then one day we will reach that capacity, right? Let's create a hypothetical situation - we massively overbuild the world with the biggest skyscrapers that, with the newest technology, go thousands of feet in the air. Standard homes no longer exist, and the smallest of homes are at least four stories. These conditions cover every corner of the world. Power-plants are at a massive draw. Now everybody knows that you can't really "use" electricity for good, for it always returns to another form of energy - it can't be destroyed. So what if, with this extremely advanced society, electricity was used quicker then it was replaced? And this massive usage was continued until all of the energy that is "stored" in planet Earth is being used at one time. That brings me to the real question of debate - doesn't that therefore mean that all power-plants will one day, when this "Complete use of energy" comes, will no longer generate electricity? Is it impossible to believe that they will have no energy left to "grab" (electrical power plants don't create electricity, just generate and convert it"? Now, I may be entirely wrong. This theory could be 153(nice even number) percent wrong, but it's what I brainstormed. Any feedback or debate is appreciated ;)

Hello. I have an apartment with no ceiling lights. I want to reroute electricity from the outlets to the ceiling. Is there anyway I can do this without breaking the wall or using molding? I basically want to get my wires together, electric tape them in place, plaster and paint over them. I was told to do it with surface wires but i cant find any more info. Help!

Alright, so I'm working on a project, which I won't disclose at this time, and I need as many different ways to generate electricity as possible. Any and all ideas are welcome, nothing is too weird or unconventional. The on requirements are it needs too be portable and smallish, in theory it should be easily carried on say, a hiking trip or something. It also needs to be able, even with some circuitry, to charge a battery. Ideally 2 AA batteries in series, but higher than 3v is OK as well. So, I will compile all the ideas and, if they will work for my purposes, I will include it in my instructable I'm working on. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated and all ideas are welcome. Fire away!

Hi, I came up with a new way of doing lighting and would like to post it as an Instructable. There's only a slight modification of existing components and standard electrical hardware is used, but I'm concerned I may be called out for possible electrical code violations. Are these checked by the Instructables crew or every project is treated with a warning that anyone using each project needs to be aware of electrical code issues? Thanks.

I was going to fry some potatoes, but my electrical ring failed with arcing, smoke, noise & sparks... I'm not happy. I've got the ring to replace, a pan, and I've got sooty-oil to clean up. And no fried-food. And the place stinks of burned-oil. And I've lost / spoiled half a bottle of fresh oil. Oh, and I'll have to pay for the electricity that did this too. And I need some 30A fuse wire.

Ok i want to build an electric hybrid system my first question is ac or dc power. i want to build a paralleled drive system. that uses the stock motor to drive on the highway with maybe a little help from the electric motors. here are my thoughts start with a f250 powerstroke diesel crew cab truck, install a divorced t case and new drive shaft, hook the electric motor to the t case front axle output. the goal is to use the space by the tool boxes to fit the batteries and later update the alternator. the goal here is a hybrid that can still haul what a normal truck can but run purely on electricity when in town

I am working on a motor bike that i had originally decided to go gas with but the motor dosent work anymore so i changed my mind and went electric. i was wondering if i would still need a jackshaft with an electric motor. it is a 24 volt motor out of a powerchair. i don't know specifics on tourque and hp, but it's pretty powerfull, and turns quite a few rpms. any help would be appreciated. thanks.

I was wondering if theirs a type of simple cheep switch that would do this: electricity is turned on, a switch completes a second circuit but when original electricity is turned off the second circuit stays on. The first circuit gets power from an outlet but the second circuit runs on a battery But in diagram (I used paint it's the best I can do) I have both running on batteries. Dose any one know of an electrical component that would do this? Or is their any way I could build one for cheep? Thank you.

Hello, I have an electric bass .. I broke the two wires that is connected to the battery connector a couple of months ago.. I had it professionally soldered. All of a sudden, today, it started to static every time I played a string. I switched amps to make sure isn't wasn't any of amps. But it started to static on every one.. Could it be that the battery is going dead??? Please help!!!!! I have a gig this weekend!!

I am considering motorizing my bike for my work commute. However I don't have enough knowledge about motor output as in torque / rpms to be able to determine what kind of characteristic I should be looking for. For many of the electric motors I am finding online, it doesn't really say the torque output. Is there a spec such as watts that I can judge a motor by? What specs should I be looking for in a motor that can assist in moving my weight. Or an links to good knowledge sites would be great too. Thanks.

So a few years back, my teacher had this toy chick, that had two contacts on the bottom. When you touched both, it chirped. Whn you touched one, and you touched a friend who touched the other, it chirped. So if electricity can run through you like that, why cant the same thing work with a battery and something that takes that battery? (leave the +side in, touching the - side, and then touching the contact for the - side)

Is there any components that set the minimum energy to pass through? When the energy is lower than the fix amount , no energy will be passing through. I'm trying to make a project. I'll put a dynamo on my bicycle, and it will be connected to 3 LEDs. When I cycle in low speed, only one LED will light up. When I increase my speed to certain level, 2 LEDs will light up and if it passes a certain speed all LED will light up. Any idea?

I've got a couple of love birds in a big cage in my porch.But the things is that,this ugly black cat keeps constantly appearing out of nowhere and frightens these poor birds.The cat also makes attempts to grab them.I am asking for aid here cuz I know something a bit buzzing can keep the pussy off,anyone any bright ideas?(probably a helpful instructable).A security system which detects the villain and alerts me can also be effective.Any help would be greatly appreciated

I want to convert my old gas mower to an electric mower. 12v batteries are easy enough, and there is plenty of info re solar charging systems. I'm stuck on sourcing the motor. I was wondering if a car starter motor would be sufficient for running a lawnmower? It's a 12v motor, has enough oomph to turn over up to 12 cylinders of american steel, and there are plenty of 'em out there in junkyards waiting to be recycled. Sounds good on paper. Anyone have any insight into why this is or ain't a good idea? Thx- Rev. Bucky

Bored with traditional digeridoos, Kyle Evans made this electronically modified, Bluetooth PVC didgeridoo. The Bluetooth allows him to not be tethered to a computer and the controls on the sides allow him to modify the sounds in the middle of a performance. It takes a lot of breath to power the 4.5 foot didgeridoo, but with a feedback feature he can keep the sound going and catch a breath, which is a little easier than the typical circular breathing. So I have made two different versions of this spark generator, one used a Marx generator design and the other with a voltage multiple design. Both are working well, but when I expose a lighter fluid soaked wick to either one neither can start the fire. So the only thing I can think of is that while I am generating the spark it isn't hot enough or I am generating the spark before the vapors can achieve the correct oxygen/fuel mixture. Any ideas? Both use a modified Flyswatter circuit.

I have a US plug AC/DC power adapter and need to get a European version. The specks on the adapter are input: 120VAC 60Hz 24 W and the output: 10 VDC 1400mA. I really don't have a clue as to what all these numbers mean but understand at a bare minimum I need something with a 10 VDC output. I've looked around at some shops and can find adapters that say 9v 1000mA and others that are 12v 1500mA. Do I need to get the exact voltage (I presume the v stands for volts)? What about the amperes ( I believe that mA is some increment of amperage)? Can I fudge the numbers a bit to save money and time instead of trying to get the exact configuration of the original adapter? Thanks for any help in clarifying this for me.

Good day!I have a special problem and I am not even sure this is the right place where to ask for help... I have carpet in my office and by walking around I get charged like a battery (electrostatic)...Often I touch someone and I get a shock! (Also the other person, at least I am not the only one...) This is pretty strong some times and annoying most of the times so I thought maybe I can make (or maybe it exists already) a bracelet or a ring or anything with a LED or with any kind of resistance that I could wear and it could "decharge" me. I think I can figure out how to make something fancy but I am not that, lets say, skilled in electronic and I don't know what would actually do the job. Am I the only one with such problem? Does anyone have any idea?

I'm playing around with the idea of wireless power. It should be easily do-able over a short distance- my plan is to be able to charge something like my cellphone through induction, by placing it on a powered surface.. But- I don't know a whole lot about induction, so I was hoping someone could help me out a bit. Here is my setup: I'm using coils from old 5 1/2" floppy drives. I used them once before in a BEAM bot pendulum.. I set one coil on top of another. So far, by pulsing 9v DC through the coil, It sparks a little (because its shorting I assume) and the multimeter in the adjacent coil gives me a small spike of voltage, but quickly returns to zero. Zapping repeatedly gives me at best 2.5v, which is totally acceptable, if only it was sustainable. I've tried using AC 9v.. but I didn't seem to work either. I also tried some different on/off cycles with a BS2.. no luck. Any info would be quite appreciated..

I've just had an idea for making an mp3 player disguised as an old gramophone, to be used as a set piece/source of music for busking. Problem is, I can't figure out how to pull off some of the details of making it... Heres the idea as it stands: Have an old gramophone that appears to be playing music from a record, but is actually playing music from an Mp3 player. I figure you could interrupt the signal from the needle to the amplifier without to much trouble, as you'd still need the needle there to make it move along the record as it 'plays'. It also shouldn't be too hard to hide a speaker in the trumpet or even embed it into the side of the gramophone. In an ideal world, it would also be great to have some general controls on the back, to select play lists and the like, and that's probably achievable my attaching it to a standard mp3 player. The tricky bit is that I want to get it to play when the needle is placed on the record, and stop when the record finishes, ultimately with a digital replica of the scratch sound that you get at the end of an old record. Does anyone have any ideas on how to go about this part? because I'm absolutely stumped... is it possible that the answer lies somewhere in using the movement of the needle-arm to complete a circuit while in certain positions? Any thoughts, help, ideas or suggestions would be appreciated :) .

We camp every year for two weeks beside a stream. There is no electricity available on our campsite, but we do have a number of things that we'd like to recharge over the two week period. There is a small (2 ft.) dammed waterfall/ rapids in the stream close to where we camp. Does anyone know how I could make a water wheel electricity generator? Information on all aspects (how to build a water wheel; what type and where to get a generator; storage or regulator advice) would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

OK. this is gonna sound very crazy. i remember learning this thing about photosynthesis. there are electron acceptors and donors. during photosynthesis, the electrons are passed on and on. it's like redox reaction. or perhaps it is redox reaction. anyway i came up with a crazy idea of generating electricity from plants. there just might not be enough electrons to do the "work" (to get at least 5V? impossible.). batteries have the + and - terminal. plants have electron acceptors and donors. crazy, eh? what do y'all think?
