Lead in eye!?

What I do!? When I was wrighting my Math homework and my stupid pencil lead broke, few up in my eye! And its stuck! I've tried watering it out, but no luck. Looked in the mirror and theres a faint black line under my eye (not on/in it, I mean in between). Will the pencil lead do something bad to my eye? Will I need special treatment to remove it? Is it possible my body "somehow" remove that lead in my eye?

Laser burn to the eyes

On Saturday morning my eyelids will be pulled back by retractors and held open, ethanol will be poured into my eyes, a flap of epithelial (outer layer of the eye) will be peeled back to reveal the cornea, then an Eximer laser will burn the surface of the cornea. Apparently, the burning smell can be quite unpleasant :-/ Has anyone else had laser eye surgery? Cheers, Pat. Pending

Designer eye trauma

Five hundred pounds will buy you a work of art only half an inch across. Horror-fan Kevin Carter, 36, spends up to two days hand-painting colourful dye on to each lens with a fine brush. The result turns customers into zombies, mutants, gives them an eye with teeth, or mirror-finish eyes.  For the connoisseur (or horror movie actor), there is the traumatised look... Metal eyeglass arms have lost their coating, what to use to re-coat them?

Hi and thanks for reading my question. I wear reading glasses and have had some pretty good luck with a pair that I purchased at CVS approximately four years ago. The only thing that has went wrong is that the clear-coating, that used to cover the inside of the glass's "arms" has worn off, from the rubbing of the inside of the arms against my head as I put the glasses on and take the glasses off. Does anybody please have any suggestions about what I should use to re-coat the arms of my reading glasses? Thanks again for reading my question and thanks also to anybody that can please offer me any suggestion(s)! Dan

What are the perfect circumstances to get laser eye surgery done for eye sight weakness?

What are the best circumstances  or best time to get the laser treatment for eye sight surgery? I know i should talk to an eye surgeon for this, but before going to him may be its a good idea to talk to people here who have a prior experience and have themselves undergone the procedure. Also it would be great if someone can suggest me some reasonable costs for laser eye treatment. thanks.

Eyeglasses online?

So, has anyone here ever ordered glasses online from places like zenni optical? I'm asking because I really need new glasses, it's been 4 years since my last eye exam, but stepping into a place like Lenscrafters or pearl mean I'm going to be out $200-300 dollars I really don't have right now. So experiences +- would be appreciated. I can get my eyes checked for cheap at Sam's Club, but damn, I'd like glasses that only cost $8 bucks, I wouldn't have to care if I lost them in the surf or canoeing.

Cheap Eyeglasses - No, it isn't SPAM

Ok, first off, this isn't SPAM - I'm not advertising, just trying to figure something out about this company.Zenni OpticalThey sell glasses starting from $8! Glasses from a local glasses retailer cost around $120, at least! How can they afford to go down that low, compared to other stores? Is it their method of production, like they use different, cheaper materials? I've order 2 pairs off of their site, one regular, one sunglasses. I'll be awaiting the results. Still, it's crazy how low they can go, or how overpriced local stores are.

I lost my glasses in the ocean; help me choose a new pair!

I lost my glasses kitesurfing in some enormous waves at Waddell Creek yesterday! I went through the complete spin-cycle: caught in a wave, spun so fast underwater I didn't know which way was up, almost run out of breath, lose glasses, etc... I forgot to write my email address on them, so if you find a pair of glasses somewhere along the Northern California coast let me know! I've worn my glasses in the ocean for more than 6 years without incident; in fact, I lost so many pairs of contacts to the ocean, that I started favoring my glasses. Below you can see me just coming back to shore wearing my glasses -- on this particular day, I was so tired after 6 hours of kitesurfing that I couldn't get the food into my mouth properly. I choose that pair by wandering into an optical store and demanding "1960's NASA engineer glasses." They were probably more "graphic designer" glasses, but cool nonetheless. Help me choose what I should get next! I'm partial to http://www.optical4less.com/ because they're super cheap and believe me when I tell them "my prescription really hasn't changed and I don't need another eye exam."

Eye-fi Eye Films now a Thanksgiving contest prize

Instructables just received some beta Eye-fi Eye-Film cards. These amazing little devices are SD-memory-card-shaped packages that go in your camera and wirelessly upload images. Right now, the awesome people at Eye-fi have a few of the major photo-sharing and photo-storing sites integrated with their service.I took a picture of numberandom in the shop, and before I got back to my computer, the image had been uploaded here to my Flickr account, geo tagged, and placed on a map. Holy cow that's awesome! Now, I will admit that right now the integration with Instructables is quite lacking (I had to download the image in this post from Flickr and reupload it to Instructables!). However, I'm sure everyone can see the direction this wonderful piece of hardware moves us in -- one step closer to the Memex! "One can now picture a future investigator in his laboratory. His hands are free, and he is not anchored. As he moves about and observes, he photographs and comments." More here and here.In the near future, you'll be able to just take pictures and have them automatically appear on the web ready for use. Anyone remember developing film pictures (and maybe scanning them)? Hopefully, uploading will soon go the same way. We have three of these that we're giving away as Grand Prizes for the Thanksgiving contest. So, if you want to take your documenting and picture taking to the next level, you'll really need to take Thanksgiving to the next level.

Blinking/ moving LED eyes?

Maybe a couple of sets of them covered with ping-pong ball halves to make the "eyes" bigger.

Cheap eye glitter sealant?

I love wearing glitter on my eyes but hate it when it starts flaking off. Eyeshadows with shimmers and glitter particles are too subtle for the look I'm trying to achieve. Vaseline is too gloopy and so the glitter never stays in place and MAC's EZR is far too expensive for me. Topshop did a glitter sealant a few years ago but I've never seen it since. Anybody seen it in the shops lately? Does anybody have any other suggestions of how to keep eye glitter in place?

Cats eyes road markers? Answered

Over the years I have come up with a variety of ideas - some Impractical, some worked and many that never went beyond the thought or drawing stage. A long time ago I thought this was a good idea, with no budget or inclination to action it practically I put it up here for comment/critique In the UK and many other countries the centre and edge of the road is marked with reflective dots. In the UK we call these cats eyes as the inventor was supposedly inspired by the way a cats eyes shine in the dark. However good though they are they only reflect as far as your light beam reaches. On dipped beam this may not be that for ahead and with the sort of traffic we get in the UK you hardly every get to use the main beam. My suggestion is to cut a slot down the middle of the road and lay in it a fibre optic cable linking every cats eye in groups of say 50 or 100. The ides is as the diagram shows the Fibre optic carries your dipped head light far further then it would normally shine without the risk of dazzling other road users. I think that this would significantly improve road safety at little cost if done when road refurbishment was carried out anyway as at this time the cats eyes are often removed and replaced. The cats eyes could be simpler, lower profile and possibly cheaper to makeas they would only need to be a plastic holder for the fibre.

Halloween blinking eyes LED project

A pair of red LEDs which blink in an approximation of the glowing red eyes of some baleful critter lurking in the shadows behind me as I hand out candy to the kids. I figure to poke the LEDs through a piece of cardboard sprayed with flat black paint. Half a dozen sets of light would make for a pretty scary pack of, well, something. Just the thing for Halloween. I don't have the technical background to do this but it seems like it might be fun and cheap.

Are your eyes better than mine?

I've been watching and re-watching this video of a kite flying (I can't make Vimeo embed). It's based on the tetrahedral kite, a tried and tested design.  In my experience, kites like this have amazing stability and huge amounts of lift.  This thing should have needed a serious effort to restrain. But it only gets a few feet off the ground, and then only just. The huge banner will have something to do with it, but not a lot. I've squinted at the video of it in flight, and I may be imagining it, but are a lot of the triangular cells the wrong way round, contributing no lift at all, just a lot of drag? Can you have a look, and see if you can work it out?

What is this tool?

Anyone have any clue what this tool was used for or what it is called?  It was found in the dirt on a farm.  I will attempt to describe as best as I can hoping that this will help after you see the pictures.  It looks like the main piece is like a large needle with an eye at the one end and a point at the other.  Then there is a curved hook sideways to the main piece (see the shadow on my leg).  The hole/open portion in the middle appears to be some sort of clamp.  When you press on the tab piece that is closer to the eye, the hole opens up, releases the pressure on whatever may be inside the hole.

Why is my vision blurry after an insect flew into my eye?

About 24 hours ago a small bug like a gnat flew into my right eye. My eye burned for the rest of that day, but felt fine the next morning. Although my eye feels fine, my eyesight is very blurred through my right eye. I have always had perfect vision without glasses or similar objects until this encounter. Does anyone know what may be causing this? Will this go away on it's own, or should I do something about it?
