Is this fair? Answered

I had bought a pair of trainers the other day, not realising that  they were two different trainers. When I went back to the shop only wearing the trainers for a day, they said that I couldn't get a full refund because they were 'worn out'. Is this really fair, the store was sports direct and the trainers were £20. The member of staff even said that it was alright to wear two different trainers! That was just to be cheap.... Is this really fair? I have lodged a complaint so hopefully I should get some satisfactory conclusion.

Our stuff is already heading out on a big ol' truck, but Canida and I will be heading out later this week to see what Austin, Texas has to offer and bask in the Texas atmosphere. 2009 Maker Faire

Our presentation booth details for this year's Bay Area Maker Faire has just arrived and all of us here at Instructables are revved up and rearing to go. We are especially excited that Radioactive_Legos has decided to show off his 48V Electric Bike at our booth; it was a runner-up in the Craftsman Workshop of the Future Contest. If you have an awesome project that you have posted to Instructables and would like the chance to show it off without getting your own booth (having your own booth is awesome, but a hefty time commitment - sometimes it's nice to be able to see the Maker Faire!), contact noahw and let him know! We'll probably have room for your project at the Instructables booth, and we'd love to showcase as many cool user projects as we can. Also! Even though this year's Maker Faire is only now two months away, you still another 10 days to sign up for your very own presentation booth. Sign up at the official Maker Faire website.Whether you're coming to present your work or gawk, we look forward to seeing you!... and for those of you on the east coast or in the UK, we have you in our hearts ;-)

Instructables at the Maker Faire!

Here you go! We spent two days talking to hundreds, maybe thousands of people about the site. We were amazed at how many people had heard of us, and used it regularly, but never quite got round to joining. We were proud of the number of other Makers who were members of Instructables. We were pleasantly surprised by people presenting crafts they had learned from instructables, and were telling others about the site. We met the very nice people from Sugru.  We met the slightly manic folk from various Hackerspaces.  We met the dedicated folk from SciCast.  There were people knitting neurons, soldering badges, hacking the Kinect, battling robots, playing tennis on bicycles, controlling fire with sound, playing music with Tesla coils, building an electric Mini, chasing small children with wheelie bins, performing the thermite reaction in their bare hands, building a temporary home from "Sold" signs. Hannah wrote an Instructable. There were automata, robots, ancient computers, amazing materials, musicians, artists, crafters, and hackers. There was a giant cardboard spider, a self-balancing skateboard from this site, a water-cooled armchair, a fire-breathing dragon, 3d printers printing 3d printers, and hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of people all interested in Making Cool Stuff. Have a look at the photos - the image-notes are still buggy, so if there's one you don't understand, just ask. Oh, and the members we know we met were... Spartacus. Insomniac. XenonJohn (and his self-balancing skateboard!) Aidy22475. Sweavo. Oopstudios (I don't think I spelled that correctly) Spikeuk. Podling. JamJarcollective (I could have watched their ball-coasters all day...) Greensteam. We probably met more than that - if I missed you off the list, please let me know! The first of the videos...

What can I expect? i.e. what/who will be there, how big is it, ect. 2.) If you have been there, what are your favorite things to see? 3.) Anything else fun to do in Detroit, or good restaurants? 4.) Are any of you fellow instructablers going?

Maker Faire unboxed - ZDNET

The Maker Faire, which took place over the weekend in San Mateo, Calif., celebrated the do-it-yourself ethos. This manifested in both the "makers" who brought their personal projects and the attendees, including the ones who chose to interact with the projects. The festival was the third in San Mateo, in addition to one held last fall in Austin, Texas. It is put on by the people behind Make magazine. In 2006, 20,000 people attended the Bay Area event. In 2007, that number swelled to 40,000. It is not clear how many people attended over the weekend. But if the hefty crowds were any indication, the figure surely increasedArticle and photo Gallery

Make Faire 2008! Who is planning on Attending?

Make Faire 2008!Hi,I was wondering who is planning on attending the Make Faire on May 3 and 4th at the San Mateo Fairgrounds? I convinced my parents to come out (all the way from Wisconsin!!) because it is also my uncles 60th birthday. I will be there on Saturday the 3rd but not the 4th. This is my first time going and I am really looking forward to it. In case you don't know what the make faire is here is a quick note from the site."Maker Faire is a two-day, family-friendly event that celebrates the Do-It-Yourself (DIY) mindset. It's for creative, resourceful people of all ages and backgrounds who like to tinker and love to make things."Also will instructables have some type of booth up? That would be cool. Tickets are on sale right now.Hope to see you all their! Thanks JoeBTW this "Faire" spelled with an "e" at the end intentionally. I think it is the old English spelling i don't know though.

Maker Faire -- I gotta write this down before I forget

Okay, I realized this awhile ago, and its soooo cool, and I keep forgetting to tell people.I don't know if this was intentional, or not, but anyway. If you know French, you'll appreciate "Maker Faire", because faire can* mean "to make".Maker to make! I like the ring ;-)*Normally, its translated "to do", but it can also be translated this way... even though its barely used like this...

Important Info regarding Maker Faire UK, for all those whom might wish to go.

Hi all, Well since the original topic regarding the maker faire i have been trying to work a few things out. Ive been in contact with Graham from o'reilly. He seemed very happy that some of us wanted to get involved. And also commented on the instructables table at the maker faire austin. Now, me and hannah are seriously thinking about attending, and im asking you guys if you wish to do so also. Graham asked me to fill out a form (added as a picture here). So, these are the questions you need to answer. 1. Are you seriously thinking about attending the Faire? 2. Would you be prepared to bring some of your items/ projects to show off? 3. Would you like to be involved with the running of a 'instructables table' 4. If there are only a small amount of us (say 4-10) we could actually find a hotel for us all to stay in? Would people wish that, or just want to make there own arrangements? Obviously, the sooner we sort things out, the better, some of us will have to book holidays off work etc. So you need to make a commitment... even if the eventual answer is no, i need to know how many people are serious when they say they want to go. That is all... Jake

Thanks for the hospitality!

Hi everyone! It's been a week since Maker Faire, sorry it's taken so long to post this--I came down with some sort of awful bug the day after I got back to Eugene.  I've spent the last several days (including today, my birthday!) just lying around and feeling sorry for myself. Anyway, I'm starting to feel a bit better this evening, so I just thought I'd say thanks!  I had a blast at Maker Faire, helping out at the instructables booth and meeting folks from HQ, fellow authors, and just plain fans of the site.  It was really, really great meeting you all and seeing the enthusiasm instructables brings out in people. In particular, hello and thanks to Mikeasaurus, Laura, Quincy, Gregg, Randy, Sarah, and anyone whose name I forgot in the madness that was last weekend, for making me feel welcome.  Special thanks to Christy and Eric for really making me feel at home in a new city!  The week before MF which I spent working in central California, and the couple of weeks leading up to it that I spent preparing for the trip, were incredibly busy and hectic for me.  It was fantastic to cap that all off by seeing the weird and wonderful sights at Maker Faire, and meeting for the first time in real life people who I had only known previously on the internet.  It really made me feel like a part of the instructables community. Thanks so much, and hopefully I'll get to see more of SF on my next visit!  I didn't even get a chance to see instructables HQ! Ian
