I will be making a instructables how to make fake model guns that are durable out of cheap materials and I have done it before so I know how to do it and I want to make a model that I like(because i will probably be making videos with it) and that the instructables community likes so pick a firearm and well see, BTW it dosent have to be a rifle it can be a a pistol or SMG just tell me ones youll like

I just noticed there are very few instructables and forums relating to real firearms. I know a fair bit about firearms: safety, handling, collecting, investing, maintenance, mild modifications, repair, and use of force. I can produce Ibles related to these topics, and I have a few questions to put in Forums. However, I'm not certain this is the place for that sort of thing. I don't want to do anything to damage the Instructables community. I don't want to bring needless scrutiny upon innocent people. I need feedback as to whether or not these sort of things are appropriate for this site.

This tool came in a box of firearm items, however we have been unable to identify what it is or what it would be used for. The overall length is 2 7/8 inches, largest diameter is 3/4 inch, smaller diameter is 7/16 inch, has a 3/16 slot on one end and two 1/8 inch pins in the larger end, pins are 1/2 inch apart. There are two holes cross drilled in the smaller diameter, they are each 3/16 diameter and are 15/16 inch apart. The metal is blued same as a firearm would be. There are no identification markings on this tool.

Over the summer, I designed and built an extremely simple single-shot .22 pistol. Below is a video showing all of the parts and the first shots fired. I did this as a design exercise and to see how hard it would be to build a reliable firearm, going from idea to 3D model to working prototype in about three weeks. So far I've fired over 200 rounds with 0 malfunctions, however some parts still need to be heat treated and I need to apply a finish and maybe add some sights. When it's completely finished, I'll port my blog posts into an instructable.

I am working on a completely home made armor set for sword combat. Actually, it will be mixed with a few modern firearms such as .44 Magnum revolvers, 9mm handguns and .45 pistols. It is better that you DON'T know what I am doing. Trust me. So the question, Is a steel kitchen pot bulletproof?

Inside PvC pipe, doesn't it have to have holes in it? To allow the escaping gas too expand into the second chamber.
Regular firearms work on a simular principle and size matters. 9 holes 1 inch apart, 4 lines of them. or make the inner tube out of screen. Mom & dad will love that one.
I recently joined the homemade firearms community and realized that the group is focused on highly illegal NFA weapon construction and i want no part of it. I thought this would be a group of mature law abiding amateur gunsmiths building legal single shot, bolt guns or semi-auto rifles and handguns but based on the few posts I read, this is not the case.

I have LOTs of ideas, research, and projects. unfortunatly I don't have a lot of time, money, or help. My wife and I just had a baby, so my camerawoman is now performing mommy duties so I am looking for someone to help me in the mad scientist lab. I have some ideas for shooting some disaster scenario videos, how to, training (mostly firearms related), cooking (cheese, bread, fermention), beekeeping, and all sorts of urban homestead type stuff. I cannot pay at this time, but depending on the person, and what they bring to the table I am willing to negotiate for a more permenant arraigement. What I suggest is that if your interested take a look at my website, and if you think it is useful, and that you can enhance it shoot me an email or message me here. If your really good, I can offer you firearm classes in trade, up to and including instructor certifications for those that are qualified.

Hello and welcome to the 'Guns and Weaponry' instructables group, this group focuses on improvised weaponry.i must warn you that some things posted here may be potentially lethal, so do not join this group if you are going to bitch about it.However, most things on here will be relativly harmless, and will not injure anyone too badly.FAQ:Q:What can/cant i post in this group?A:Any TUTORIAL on how to build a firearm / improvised weapon. Not pointless things nothing to do with the group, such as 'how to post pictures on your instructables acount' they do not fit in here, perhaps another group.Q:What kind of guns do you mean?A: Firearms, airsoft guns, pellet guns, spud guns, cannons.a gun that propels something out of the barrel. Not tatoo guns ect.Q:What does 'improvised' weaponry mean?A: IMPROVISED weaponry is something edited or made to do the same job as a weapon. ECT. sharpened stones to a knife-like sahpe for cutting > Improvised knife.Ok, rant over. :) Kids, dont kill yourself doing any of this please.Enjoy people.

Apppearantly it was for a nailer. So I just just had a question, how do you use it, and can it be used in firearms (such as a zip gun) that accepts .22 caliber cartriges?

How can I connect a micro camera (a tiny spy one) to a small 4.5"-6.5" LCD screen to work as a sort of spy screen?
If you've played Modern Warfare 2, you know what the Heartbeat Sensor is. It's a small screen that is attached to the side of a firearm and is connected by visible wiring to some other unknown electronic parts. Really, though, I'm looking to recreate the screen concept as a camera + viewing screen that will work in low-light environments, specifically for paintball scenarios. I can make the outer shell and make sure it won't be ruined by a stray shot, but actually connecting the mini camera to the screen and having them work at all is an issue, and even more is having it work at night or in dark areas. I have basically no experience with electronics aside from plugging part A into slot A, part B into slot B, etc. I can work with computers easily, but physical wiring and such is a total blank card for me. I'd also like to know whether it'd require a specific screen to work. I'm completely open to suggestions, as long as the net weight of everything required doesn't exceed a few pounds, as the gun itself is already starting to lean towards the weight of actual firearms.
Question by Also The Game
This is kind of an odd one. I'm using a firearm for a movie firing blanks. Currently, it looks like this. http://www.valorcorp.com/images/products/1012048A.jpg I'd like it to look like this, mainly so that the camera can pick it up better, as a solid black finish won't register as well, and all the tiny inperfections will make it look more interesting. http://www.gunblast.com/images/SHOT2009/Day2/DSC05076.JPG It's the exact same gun, but some come "reliced" and others don't. I got a good deal on one that wasn't. I don't want to mess it up too bad, no big pitting or scratch spots, just rough the finish up a bit. Any ideas?

Ever since I was a young lad (XD) I have wanted to learn whatever I could. How to clean a firearm, how to change the oil in a car, how to sight in a scope, how to string and fire a bow, the list goes on. An item included in that list is how to make a website. So, as many of you may know, I made a website (using Weebly), called The Red Book of Westmarch Insider. I decided to make this forum topic to let you guys know about some of the new stuff on the site. I have a couple of new polls, one Up to Date post, and a rather large Video Series page. I also have the ability to make a forums page, but I chose not to do that, as I was not sure as to: 1) how it would work, 2) whether or not you could post pictures, and 3) if anyone would be interested. I also made this forum topic so that I could let you guys know when I have something new on my site. You don't need to post any comments or anything, this forum topic is just to give you quick links to new posts and stuff on my site. -The Red Book of Westmarch

Reed switches are electro-mechanical devices that opens or closes a circuit when a megnetic field is present. They come in normally open and normally closed designs and range from the size of a grain of rice all the way up to several inches long. A relay, another electro-mechanical device, is comprised of a reed switch and an electromagnet trigger built into one housing. Common uses for reed switches (not counting relays which are used in virtually all electronic devices) include the 'pick ups' on bicycle computers and the sensors on window and door alarms. I just ordered a bunch of reed switches and I need your help in coming up with ideas for what to do with them. Post up your ideas for some things that could be made or modified to be triggered by a magnet coming in close proximity to a reed switch. Remember- the magnet does not have to touch the switch, just get close enough that the magnetic force trips the switch. The stranger and sillier your ideas are the better. Note: this is not a contest and there are no prizes. by posting an idea you are giving your consent for anyone who reads it to use your idea. Posts about integrating reed switches into knex firearms will be ignored (no offence, it's just not my cup of tea).

These guns can be fun to have they are also a big responsibility. If you want to get a license you need to take a course that lasts about 2 days(possibly) and then you will get a test, if you pass the test depending on where you are i think you will get a certificate. After all this you should be able to apply for a license... Now if you are a MINOR in Canada you need to be from the age of "12 to 17" you will need to do all the same things as you would do for the adult license, this license is only for a minor who gets a gun from a licensed adult. The gun can not be purchased by a minor it needs to be registerd under the name of a licensed adult. the price for a minors license rages from about $10 to $30, it depends on how long you will have it for. the minors license in Canada will allow a minor to do the following: - target practice - hunting - instruction in the use of firearms;and - taking part in organized shooting competitions NOTE: a minor does not need a license unless he is under super vision of a licensed adult(arms length away. :( This stuff is all so interesting to me if you have a license or a gun tell me what you think of it and what you do with it.(hunting...) Do you like these guns etc. etc. talk to me about them. PCE!

Alright, I'm sure you guys get the message, I don't build much lately. I think I might stash away the K'nex soon (I'll still stick around) but I feel bleh that I haven't actually posted anything in forever. I was going to get more images of the UMP-45 but I ended up mutating it into a non functioning modelish gun while I was bored and it'd take work to regut it so hopefully someone figures it out from the two pictures I posted. It's really not that hard. Anyways, to the point. I still have that idea floating in my head from over a year ago that no one has been able to help me with yet. Basically, it's a fully automatic gun that doesn't require a motor, and it'd get decent range. The concept is pretty much to modify an RBG type gun to work with a piston system like the ones in modern firearms. It should have a controllable RoF then. The problem is that I still need a good RBG mech! It's funny how tricky it turned out to be. I need a cog/gear and trigger system that takes little effort to operate. This means that you'll need to somehow minimize the friction between the trigger and whatever is holding the rubber bands. If it's sensitive enough, the rest should be simple. But grr people keep leaving and I need someone who can make such a mech to MAKE IT ALREADY! I've tried so many times myself and failed but I'll give it another shot. It's essential before I can move on to the rest of the design.

Alright so I'm having a "civilized discussion" with Mykhailo/whoever you call him now and he's arguing, just like plenty of others, that RBGs are not true semi auto because of the reasons soon to be listed. Comparing RBGs to real firearms (which I understand are not exactly alike in plenty of ways) I find that they're more like a true semi automatic than what you guys would call true semi autos. Just listen to my argument and see if you can at least understand what I'm saying. The majority of your arguments for why an RBG is not a true semi auto is that you have to prepare a band for every shot. Some of you compare this to cocking a weapon more than once for every shot. I find this a bad comparison. In real fire arms, the firing mechanism isn't what launches the bullet. It triggers the powder which then in turn shoots the bullet. An RBG is similar to this. Each rubber band acts as the "powder" for the bullets. The RBG firing mechanism simply sets them off. You also have to prepare real cartridges too. Does it matter if it's you or not who makes them? You still have to mix up and add the powder all the same as you must add RBs to your weapon. This brought up the argument that it's still not a true semi auto because the bullet isn't self-contained in an RBG. OK I have two things to say to this. First, now bullets decide the firing mode of a weapon? Secondly, what about ooda's RBG ammo. That's self contained, isn't it? The bullet is attached directly to the RBG. What do you guys think?

I'm somewhat new at this knex stuff, but I built several guns already. I first search what I want to build; for example, if I want to build a "semi-auto pistol" I type in that. Whatever looks cool as the main picture for the instructables is selected in a new tab. Thus, the comments and rating helps me proceed to 'filter' the good stuff and the bad stuff. I like knex, as well as this site. But what's bugging me is that I'm not too sure that people know what 'semi-auto' really is. I don't want to be offensive or anything, but it's really ticking me off. I'm trying to find a gun that's semi-auto, meaning: A type of firearm that fires a single bullet each time the trigger is pulled, automatically ejects the spent cartridge, chambers a fresh cartridge from its magazine, and is immediately ready to fire another shot. So, in knex terms: A gun that fires a single bullet, loads the bullet automatically, with the rod automatically pulled back. I'm sure plenty of people have done this before. Search for semi-automatic knex guns in the search bar. See the title 'REAL semi-auto knex gun!!!!1'. See a really nice gun, think it's awesome and stuff. Then when you finish building it, you use it and you have to pull back the rod manually. It seems that semi-auto on this site is really a gun with a magazine and a rubber band to push the bullets in the mag up or a mag pusher. But in reality, it's not. We need to make up a name or something to show to someone what's the difference between semi-auto and semi-manual. PS: If you know any guns that have a real semi-auto function to it, can you PM me or comment below? Thanks :) PSS: I added the '1' up there as exaggeration.. though some people actually do that, smh..

Here's a project Trauts and I are working on. Trauts still has to fine tune my version. I was actually only going to build the back and firing mechanism and leave the front to trauts and have him mod whatever needed. I just added a front on for the heck of it. Here's what the PDR is http://www.magpul.com/pdfs/PDRtech_PR.pdf I had a video but it wasn't working so I'll just have to explain some of the features for now. This version wasn't made for looks but just to show off the trigger, magazine, and mag release. So understand that this is by far not the final version. Alright to explain some of the features now: - I made a quick adapter for rail accessories from airsoft and maybe real firearms. The adapter can then attach to my K'nex rail. I used this very low quality red dot scope for an example. I wish I had batteries for it so I could at least use it as something more than a viewfinder. -The trigger is complicated looking but it's pretty basic. I took my old bullpup trigger (could probably be used to all kinds of bullpup weapons) and modified it a little so that I wouldn't need such a long barrel. To do this I brought down what normally would be the part you'd pull and placed that early and then made a sliding trigger that pushes that part back. It's actually pretty reliable. -The magazine is a somewhat new design (that or hardly ever used) that is really close in size to real STANAG magazines. The real version doesn't used curved magazines but I decided to make a curved magazine anyways to demonstrate how to make a gently curving magazine for guns like the Magpul Masada. You can lock the mag pusher down if you're using a weak enough rubber band. -The mag release isn't what's used on the real one but it would be impossible to make one like that. This is pretty simple but very effective. It's just a little lever switch that you pull back and the magazine will pop out. You put the magazine in firmly and you should be able to hear it click. It's rock solid when locked into place. I'll show you pictures of it later.

A long time ago, I looked at Mepain's 8-Shot Deconstruction Round Revolver, and I really liked the idea, but as all concepts, it didn't shoot far. Within 20 minutes the other day I had made a small, real-triggered pistol (cock+revolve+shoot) with 8 shots, where the firing pin hits a white rod off of a snowflake connector. This was meant to be a simple revolver for people with few pieces, or who just want a fun gun. At a 45 degree angle, I won't lie, it probably gets around 10-20 feet, depending on the wear and tear of your pieces. It won't win any wars, it is a simple sidearm so you can build more piece consuming firearms. I will have pictures up shortly. Edit: I've improved range by some number, and it is now more complex and piece consuming but more reliable, and the clip design has been perfected. Advantages over guns with magazines: - Never Jams. Ever. - Slanted handle with no magazine inside. No broken pieces or clumsy mag pushers in your way. - Bullets are spread out in a circle. It is very compact, especially if you use green rods instead of whites. - Detachable wheels. This means quick reload if you have extra wheels pre-built. - Easy trigger pull. You don't need a super-powerful rubber band to make it shoot far, so the trigger pull is smooth and easy. - Super easy to build. You don't need to be an expert in k'nex to know how this works. Because it takes up less space and pieces than a magazine, and the clip design requires no rubber bands (unless you really want auto-revolver) this design could easily be perfected and expanded upon to a rifle, or high-powered weapon. It uses one black Y-connector, for the trigger, and I'm sure there's another way to do it, but this is probably the best. I can't find my camera; when I do, I will have pictures up. Probably not instructions because the thing is easy to build from pictures and a pain to take apart, but I'll be answering questions frequently when it's up and posting helpful pictures to anybody who requests it. EDIT: Pictures here> https://www.instructables.com/community/TO67PH4GQ225YK9/. Click the "i" at the top-left to get rid of those pesky annotations.

Hey Instructables, I have a question about the legality of a project that I'm designing, as I don't want to make something illegal. As those who follow me on this site know, I play a lot of airsoft. I've recently been trying to design a new kind of airsoft rifle, and I would like a bullpup design (the magazine well is located behind the trigger to make a shorter gun). I was looking around on the net and I found this http://www.mountsplus.com/AR-15_Accessories/AR-15_Scope_Rings/MZ-1022.html It's a bullpup conversion for your standard Ruger 10/.22 rifle. i checked the legality of this conversion for the state I live in, California, and found that it IS in fact legal, as long as you only use a 10.22 in it, don't use an automatic, your magazine contains 10 rounds or less, and the barrel over 18 inches, with an overall gun length of 25 inches. Normally bullpup guns are illegal in California, but since the 10/.22 is a rimfire instead of a centerfire, and the ban only applies to centerfire guns, this conversion falls into a neat loophole, and is legal for sale on a normal license. HOWEVER: I don't plan on putting a 10/.22 in this thing, I plan on tearing out all the internals of the conversion rendering it permanently effectively useless for a real-steel gun, and building a field-spec airsoft gun system inside it, making it basically a nonlethal toy for sports like any other airsoft gun. The final design would be built to the legal specs of a airsoft gun in the united states, with an orange barrel tip and a non-ballistic caliber. I can even make the final gun fit into the real steel size requirements if that would help the legality. Basically, I don't know if this is legal or not, and haven't been able to find it online. As far as I can figure, it would be legal because the conversion kit counts as a STOCK, rather than a receiver or firearm in and of itself, so that gives a lot more leeway I would think. I just want to be doubly sure before I begin this project, due to the heightened paranoia over guns and gun laws at this point, I don't want to be thrown in jail for making a toy.

So Dr. Richy posted his CAR which drew a little inspiration from this weapon that I posted on Red's wall in hopes he just might be able to turn it into a firing weapon. However, as I suspected, that's just not an easy task and I didn't expect it to happen. So I'm gonna just throw this out there and show anyone that didn't see it. It's made to be convincing, it could probably be turned into a real firearm. It's a bullpup designed to take 5.56 NATO rounds. I designed it to be somewhat ergonomic and compact. It has the front grip from...I don't even know how long that I used on my UMP. It's pretty simple, reasonably comfortable, and lets you quickly attach any front grip or bipod you can come up with. The muzzle was made from a new concept for a rounded barrel that could be used as a real K'nex barrel. This can also take a very cruddy and simple silencer attachment (which is actually just my Master Sword handle that I never wanted to disassemble). Then I added a basic rail on top that allows it to take airsoft or real rail accessories. It's not perfect, but you can get the accessories to grip into the grooves. I added a fake charging handle that is located in a decent, but not optimal position. This flows into a cheek rest of sorts that's rather close to the back of the gun so it can accommodate the charging handle pin. Your head is kinda cramped against your shoulder, but your face itself is comfortable aiming. And the front sight is detachable if you were to add a rail sight. I'm thinking I'll probably make a new one tonight for fun. It'll be shorter to be similar in size to a PDR. However, I might (not a definite) give it exchangeable fake barrels based on this one that allows it to lock in with a single pin. Secondly, I'm going to change the front to include an integrated folding forehandle that will also be comfortable to hold folded. Or so I hope. I'm also going to move the charging handle forward and make the roof one and the same with the rail to slim it down ever so slightly. This will also move the cheek rest forward to a more accurate position like on Dr. Richy's. Finally, I hope to add some nifty features but I'm not sure at all on these. One would be a bolt lock which probably wouldn't be too hard. It'd basically be like the charging handle is a firing pin and the bolt release would be a trigger, just mounted differently on the gun. And then the harder one would be to make a magazine release near the handle like on a PDR instead of the current one I use that makes you have to "strip" the magazine. On a real gun, this would be a great feature for making reloads a lot faster.

I wanted to start again with an old hobby of mine and buy some rocket motors and one or two easy rocket models. Just for the fun of seeing things to fly high and come down slow you know? Depending on which country you can call your residency now you might luagh about what happened to me: I went to first model building shop I could find nearby in my Yellow pages. Of course that had no clue about rockets, not even remote controlled cars as they only build build models for multiplayer board games. Next shop was selected a bit better with a focus on all things remote controlled. Here I was told that only a few shops actually sell any rocket related stuff due to the tough legal requirements of storage, handling and selling - WTF?? (excuse the language!) But at least I got an address for a shop that would be abe to help me figuring it all out. Last but not least I finally entered a shop filled with all sorts of model rockets, from simple to realist replicas of Saturn 5 engines. "Can I see your permit please?" "Do you have a club memebrship card stating you can buy engines?" "Can you provide the required details on your storage facilities and fire control system?" That were just a few of the questions thrown at me when I went to the checkout with 3 little rockets asking on where to find the engines and ingintion kits..... Turns out here in AU it is far easier to obtain a firearm and license than to get what you need to shoot a plastic rocket 100 or 200m high in the air.... Without being a member of a recognised model rocket club you won't have access to a legal launch area. Without your club permit you can't obtain a license required to buy a model rocket engine - yes we are taking about these paper tubes every kid uses.... Without the license, club membership and the required club permits you will never (legally) buy a rocket motor... To make things worse the 4 clubs I contacted only supply motors they buy to their members, at about 20% above market price of course and you won't get a card to buy your own until you are a member for at least three years... I already know in Germany and the US things are quite different but I would still like to know how exactly it works in your contry or if your face similar problems outside US and EU territory.

Alright, I'm not new to knex guns, I've been making them for a good 2 years. However, I AM new to making instructables for my own guns. Now, I have a list of 4 guns I have made, let me describe them so the community can choose which one I should make: 1. SSAP : A Standard Semi Automatic Pistol that I designed to look like a real pistol. While it doesnt look similar to any one real firearm, i does look like a real pistol. It is TRUELY semi automatic, I have designed it to be easy to use, and easy going on the fingers. Many semi automatic guns can be a pain to constantly push around the trigger, but not this one. It has a hidden magazine that holds 3 green rods. Now, since it is a semi automatic pistol it doesnt shoot as far as other single action guns. 2. SBAR : A Standard Bolt Action Rifle that holds 6 blue rods. It is an extremely sturdy and reliable, the magazine almost never jams. WITH the detachable barell it shoots about 30 feert, however you can easily get rid of the barrel and have it shoot even further, however I keep the barrel for cosmetics. It is my personal favorite of my creations and I am yet to take it apart for any other gun I see on instructables. 3. Desert Eagle Semi Automatic Pistol This is my most recent gun, I never actually meant for it to look like a desert eagle, however in the middle of construction I realised the resemblance and decided to make it a replica of the desert eagle. It is like my first semi auto pistol, however it holds 5 shots, is MUCH bigger and shoots white rods instead of green rods, which I suspect increases the distance. However if you have small hands (like me) it may feel slightly uncomfortable so I advise building the smaller SSAP above. It has the most resemblance to a desert eagle than all the other pistols I've seen on instructables (Believe me, I searched "Knex Desert Eagle) Remember, this also has a hidden magasine and is semi auto so it doesnt shoot that far compared to other guns. So guys, please respond and ask me to post an instructable for one. I look forward to being a part of the knex weapon community :).

For ZSDW: I've been in the zombie hype for awhile, (about a year ago,) and after finishing a couple of Zplans, I decide it would be fun to kill some zombies with dice and statistics. Alas, this is quite the beta, and it generally uses d6's, as well as some skewed grammar and stats. First things first. You are not a specified character. You have no character sheet, you have no special abilites. The following few paragraph will explain a few confusing things, and give hints on how your location will affect your game. Then, there will basic weapon stats. Later, there will be about how zombies affect you, and what kinds of zombies there are, and their health. You will also learn how you can scrounge for stuff from bodies. Subdivide means to roll for what section it is applicable for. Say your about to go into a room, you would roll for SURVIVOR and ZACH Room check. Say you get a four(4). That means there is something in the room. You would then decide if it was locked. (Unnecessary, but for extra gameplay, most are going to be locked. Hit the lock with something, and roll for it's regular attack. If the attack is successful, you broke the lock. If not, well, you may have to literally blow up the door, or say that you cannot go into the room.) Let's say no lock for times sake. Now, you know something/someone is in there. Subdivide by rolling what it is. Second line of Survivor and Zach Room Check shows this. Luckily, you roll a one(1). That means a Military person is in the room. They can have Assault Rifles, Submachine Guns, Rifles with Scoped subclass, And Scatterguns with the Breacher Barrel subclass. You can only find them in Military bases, Start Variable Location:Warzone, or ALERTNESS Yellow or higher. When moving through a house, roll for room encounters. You may roll for how many rooms you must go through,( If I roll 5, I need to go through 5 rooms before getting out, or to destination around/in house) so you must roll for encounters/room searches while in those rooms.(You would roll 5 times in this case for People and Zach Room check rolls.) In a house, you may roll for RUN, so 1-2 success, and go to the next room. 4-6, unsuccessful, roll for Scratch. (1-3 Scratched, 4-6 safe.) ALERTNESS is just a guide for what zombies are available to kill. The ALERTNESS bar is unnecessary; however it adds another angle to the game. It is at the back of this guide. Ideas, Tips and Otherwise: Tanks, APCs, Pickups, convenience stores, Molotov Cocktail, Improvised weapons, have some fun, and add to this game! Make up some weapons, apply variable splash damage, and just make sure you kill some Zach! Your start variables should be placed on a separate sheet, for reference. Say for location you picked rainforest/jungle, (your geography, weather, and season fits that description.) you will need/want to roll for Scratches more. (For realism, generally, there will be more crawlers, same with Aristriked Urban.) Same for Urban, and Airstriked-Urban, (Broken buildings, rubble, etc.) or Warzone. (More military personnel. Tanks? Have some fun! :) START VARIABLES (At the top of the game sheet.) Location: Geography: Weather: Season: # Zach's: Zach's Location: Population Density: Specialized Setting: Attack Rolls: Locks (Y/N): Scratch (Y/N): Alertness Level (Y/N): Supplies (Y/N): Leg Break (Y/N): Travel Days (Y/N): Supplies is a form of food, ammunition, and other necessary items for a single day. Each survivor in your current group takes 1 supply per day. Supplies can be found by subdividing if your preceding ROOM SEARCH roll is 1-2. If Travel Days is active/applicable, your group takes only 4 supplies per day, individual people in your group do not take any supplies, and you cannot be attacked by Z's. Travel Days are good if you have more than 4 people in your group, and have low health, or need to get somewhere. BITES are fatal, you take 3 supplies when bitten, then the following day you become a Z. Your group can take your weapons. SCRATCH'S are non-fatal; you take 2 supplies for 3 days. (7supplies, because of the one you took the day you were bitten, then the 6 you will take for the following days.) For all melee attacks, roll for bone breaks. 1-2 break, 3-5 Scratched, 6 safe. Scratch disables RANGED and FIREARMS attacks. For disabled, or failed melee attacks, 1-2 = arms, or arm, 3-4 =legs, or leg, 5-6 = chest or neck break. A Neck Break Disable turns Zach melee attacks to 2 bitten, 1 and 3 scratched, 4-6 safe. Arms/Legs breaks decreases that zombies fighting ability to 2 bitten, 1 and 3 scratched, 4-5 safe, 6 breaks leg of human. When a human has a leg broken, he/she takes two supplies per day, and halves the amount of current PTD. (Play Time per Day) To determine the time a day takes to complete, roll for the PTD, or Play Time per Day. This is found by rolling a 6 sided dice, then multiplying the number on the dice by 3. This is approximately how long a "day" is in the ZRPG, in minutes. You will need a watch or timer to play this game, if you want to apply PTD. FIREARMS Scattergun(Shotgun) = 1-3 hit, 4-6 miss, Melee 1-4 hit, 5-6 disabled. RANGE:3 This affects a maximum of 3 Zs. Roll for 1-2 1 Zach affected, 3-4 2 Zach affected, 5-6 3 Zach affected. Sub-Class: Breacher Barrel, 1-2 hit, instant death upon Z's, breaches locked doors/drywall (Apartments, this happens if you like to shoot stuff, or the lock you just suck at opening wont unlock,). Pistol = 1-4 hit, 5-6 miss. RANGE: 4 Melee 1-3 hit, 4-6 failed, if failed, roll for scratches, Z is disabled if successful hit. Subdivide for disable type. RANGE: 1 Sub-Class: Laser, 1-5 hit, 6 miss. RANGE: 5 Rifle = 1-4 hit, 5-6 miss. RANGE: 10 Melee 1-2 hit, instant kill, 3-5 disabled, 6 scratched. RANGE: 2 Sub-Class: Sighting-Laser, 1-4 hit, 5 miss, 6 disable. RANGE: 12. Sub-Machine gun: 1-4 hit, 5-6 miss. Has a three round burst, you can hit a Z 3 times, or 3 Z’s 1 time each, or any combination thereof. Sub-Class: BLUNTS Crowbar = 1-4 hit, 5-6 miss. Sub-Class: N/A 2x4 = 1-4 hit, 5-6 miss. Sub-Class: Additional Spike/Nail 1-4 hit, 5-6 miss, roll for instant kill, or instant disable. Sheet Metal Tipped, instant disable 1-4, 5-6 miss. Bat = 2-5 hit, 1 and 6 miss. Sub-Class:Aluminum Bat, 1-3 and 6 hit, 4 bat bends (You cannot use the bat anymore) 5 miss, instant disable if hit is successful. Steel Bat 2-5 hit, 1 and 6 miss, instant kill if hit is true. Sledgehammer = 1-3 hit, 4-6 miss, roll for Scratch if hit is false, insant disable/kill, subdivide for odd/even. You cannot attack next round, but you can use a secondary. Sub-Class: Industrial size, 1-5 hit, 6 miss, instant kill, Scratch if miss. You can only use this once per battle, however at the cost of a Scratch, you may use it again. SHARPS Axe = 1-2 hit, 3-6 miss, instant kill. You can only use this once per battle, however at the cost of a Scratch, you may use it again. Sub-Class:Double Sided axe, 1-3 hit, kills 2 Z's. You may use this twice on your turn, You can only use this once per battle, however at the cost of a Scratch, you may use it again. Hatchet = Melee, 1-4 hit, 5-6 miss, Thrown, 1-2 hit, 3-6 miss, if hit, roll = 1-3, disabled, 4-6 instant kill Sword = 1-3 hit, 4-6 miss. Thrown 1-4 hit, instant disable. 5-6 miss. When you successfully instant kill or disable a zombie, you lose your knife. Sub-Class: Improvised weapon w/ rifle. 1-4 instant kill, 5-6 disable. RANGED Bow and Arrow =1-3 hit, 5-4 disabled, 6 miss. Sub-Class: Bomb Arrows,1-4 instant death. Fire Arrows 1-4 hit, roll again, 1-3 immolates Z's, 4-6 damages torso. See Molotov Cocktail effects. Molotov Cocktail = 1-5 hit, 6 immolated, dies 3 days. Buildings burn 3 days. Sub-Class:Alcohol Bomb, 1-6 hit, no misses. 2 Alcohol Bombs kill a Z, 2 days. Starts building fire. Room Search Rolls: WEAPON SEARCH: 1 = FIREARMS, Subdivide for type, pistols and scatters only 2-4 = SHARP, 5 = BLUNT, 6 = RANGED, no Crossbows/Archers Bow. ITEM SEARCH: 1-2 = Supplies, when applicable. This is probably CVS's Walgreens, SURVIVOR and ZACH ROOM CHECK: For a room check, use a d20. 1-4 Z-Encounter, 6-9 survivor, 10-15 nothing, 16-20 supplies. If you roll 16-20, roll a d6. Howdy. It's that guy who posts like once every 5 months and says he'll make something but never does. I try, I really do, but then I lose interest in whatever I'm working on, forget about it, and get back into class work. Just to reiterate, I'm on my last semester of college and I just had a job interview, so crossing my fingers that I'll get the job. It's for an associate software engineer position if anyone cares. Programming and crud. Woo. But it'll pay quite handsomely, enough so I may invest in more K'nex in the future. Anyway, once I finish college and get the job (I'm like 85% sure I have it already) I'll pretty much be free to my hobbies after work. I'll have moved out and be living with my friend's parents (awkward) until he moves out and gets a house, in which then I'll live with him until I'm ready to get my own. The point of mentioning this is that other than playing games with him, I won't really have much to do so I'll probably get back into K'nex and do a lot more than I have been since starting college. Hope the community hasn't died off yet. I'm working on a capstone project to graduate, a website that hosts an IRL game of sorts that I came up with. I don't want to link to it yet, but just be on the lookout for when I do. I plan on getting a demo of the game up within the next two weeks or so. So, here's the last thing I was working on before I went on another hiatus. I basically wanted to make a just for fun, but still decent gun that'd perform better than the UMP. I call it the Ninjato, going along with the SMRI theme. The ninjato is often portrayed in Hollywood as a small, katana-like sword wielded by ninjas. So I considered this gun in a similar relation to the SMRI, something based more on compactness and stealth rather than a signature weapon. The idea is that if it were a real firearm, it'd be a compact, internally silenced SMG. There are some obvious resemblances to the SMRI (I'm really liking the rail system and sights I developed) and the UMP. It was haphazardly thrown together in many ways, such as a really cruddy trigger guard I meant to be temporary and no trigger system yet. I was also meaning to get a stock on it and get it firing before I showed any pictures, but of course I never did and I've left it to sit unnoticed for too long. The magazine was meant to have an internal pusher and of course attach UMP style, though it had broken pieces so I was iffy on it. I thought about using it to make a horizontal-mag weapon, though. Overall, the gun looks weird I admit, especially without a stock, but I figured I'd show it anyway. I don't plan on finishing it. Anyway, my next project I'm thinking is to go even simpler than the Ninjato. I thought that I'd more easily complete a smaller weapon and apparently and SMG-esque weapon still wasn't small enough to keep my attention. Well, my natural calling is pistols so I figured with the revival of essentially the sidearm fad, I'll have a go at making a version 2 of my TDSS, again mostly just for fun. And also considering that Instructables somehow lost my old TDSS instructable, it seems fitting. I'm very busy, so I really hope I can dish this one out ASAP.

One day, you might find yourself lost in the woods while camping! One day, the stock market will crash and are YOU ready to survive? Traps and Snares are one of the most important things while surviving. Blake Alma, the founder of The Art of the Outdoorsman once said, "A trap is as someone else hunting for you when you can't, it is truly your best hunting buddy!" This is so true. Unlike fishing poles and firearms, traps and snares work when you are sleeping! Hence, learning how to make a simple snare indeed helpful and lifesaving for it is an art of an outdoorsman! Let's get started on this foothold snare. You need: A shovel, 550 lb. test paracord, and bait. Note: There are laws regarding trapping. Step 1: Digging your Hole Picture of Digging your Hole I hope you got a good shovel and back! You will need to dig a hole 2 to 3 feet deep. Yes, I know it is a true pain, but it can save your life or get you free food! Diameter of your Hole: - Raccoon/Opossum/Mink/Groundhog/Large Rabbit (6 inches) - Coyote/Fox/Bobcat (8 inches) - Animals under 550 pounds/Deer/Small Elk/Very Small Bear/ect. (12 to 18 inches) Step 2: Camouflaging After digging your hole, add leaves, thin sticks, tree bark, or grass over the hole. Do not put to much "camouflage" over the hole or else you may prevent the animal from falling down in the hole. Step 3: The Snare Wrap the paracord around a stick or you finger making a small loop. Tie the small loop, and pull your finger out. Make sure the knot is very strong. Put the other end of the paracord through the small loop. You should then have a giant loop, known as the snare itself. Make the loop's (snare) diameter slightly smaller than your hole's diameter. Tie the snare extra line around a tree, sapling, or log near by. Make sure it holds. Place the snare itself over the hole, on top of the "camouflage". Step 4: The Path of the Least Resistance Sense the animal has plenty of ground to step on, it might be hard to get him in your hole. Hence you need to create a the path of the least resistance. You need to make him limited to where the animal will step. Make a path to your foothold snare using leaves, sticks, logs, and grass. Make it easy for the animal to walk through. Like us we want to walk on a nice smooth sidewalk, not on a beaten trail. They want to walk on a path with the least resistance, they don't want step on pointy sticks. They want to step were the feel most comfortable. That is way you need to make a path to your snare, so it will step into your snare! Step 5: Baiting your FootHold Snare Picture of Baiting your FootHold Snare Place your bait two to three feet ahead of your foothold snare. Raccoon and mink like fish. Opossum like processed meat like hot dogs. Groundhogs like sweet apples. Coyote and fox like meat. Deer like deer feed (duh!). How it works: The animal will smell the bait and take your path of the least resistance. While walking up to your bait on the path, he will step his foot in the hole. It will pull his foot out of the hole and continue walking. (When we pulls his foot out the snare comes out with him.) Then the snare tightens around his foot, making him trapped. This past weekend, Christy and I went a on wild boar hunt near Red Bluff, CA. We used a local guide called Catch 'Em Outfitters, and had one of the best weekend-vacations in a long time. In the end, we came home with over 100 lbs of wild pig meat. Christy had a blast gutting and field dressing all the animals -- surprising the guides -- and we've spent the past few days processing the meat ourselves making hams, chops, and sausage. There will definitely be a few new wild boar recipes, but probably no how to hunt or how to field dress a pig Instructables, unfortunately. Since most of our friends have read Michael Pollan's The Omnivore's Dilemma and paid special attention to his description of a boar hunt, they have already started begging for meat. So far, I've made wild boar maple sausage, which, despite my feeling that it was a little too one-note with just maple syrup, still received a review of "I was not ready for how good that was going taste."There are more pictures of the hunt on my flickr collection of the weekend, but be aware that they show the full process of converting an animal to meat on the table. What follows below is my Yelp review of the hunting guide, and the experience in general:Catch 'Em Outfitters is a hunting guide service, and because of the extraordinary work of its owner, Jasen Mead, I brought home over 100 pounds of wild pig meat.I chose Catch 'Em because of Jasen's excitement to take a novice hunter out, and his willingness to let me use his rifles. I've hunted birds before, but for my first wild boar hunt, it was important for me to go with someone who was interested in teaching. Additionally, he encouraged my wife to come along as a non-hunter, and she ended up gutting the animals. He offered my choice of spot and stalk hunting -- where one tries to locate hogs with binoculars and local knowledge of where they might be feeding and bedding down -- or fair chase -- using well-trained dogs to find, flush out, and potentially hold down pigs. During my hunt, I had opportunities to fire at large boars using both methods.Catch 'Em offered as many as two morning hunts and one evening hunt for me to get a pig. As a novice, it took me all three times, but Jasen and his assistant, Ron Stone (who is also a fishing guide) never lost enthusiasm, and I'm pretty sure they stayed out longer and worked harder because they were so determined for me to have a successful first hunt. However, they were very clear in their understanding of the law, and had a firm set of ethics around hunting and conservation in general, so I felt comfortable that we were always doing the right thing from a variety of different perspectives. Bear hunting is Jasen's primary guiding business, and apparently his favorite type of hunt, but you'd never know it by the way he threw himself into my pig hunt. It's clear he just loves hunting, and teaching new people.Obviously, much of the preparation for a hunt like this falls on you: taking the hunters safety class, learning to handle firearms safely and accurately, getting all your documents in order (I bought two pig tags, and was glad I did because I used them both), and being prepared to run full-speed through ankle-deep mud in head-high tule marshes. Finding a good hunting guide is definitely chief among those set of preparations, and Catch 'Em totally delivered for me.

Everyone who has played war simulation games probably has a story to tell, I know I have a few. I would like to hear about your past experiences. This being the internet, anybody can claim to have done anything. Please try to be honest in your stories. Paintball:I was pinned down behind a tree that was barely the width of my body. Three enemies were bunkered up behind a felled tree in front of me, all of them shooting. I could hear their bullets whizzing inches from my head, and I was getting covered in splatter from the paintballs breaking across the tree. If I moved even an inch, I would be exposed. I was completely helpless. One of my buddies ran up to help, taking cover on my right. He was gunned down in less than a minute. I was trapped behind that tree for what seemed like an eternity. Luckily, one of my teammates (we call him Rambo) flanked the bunker, ran up from behind, and shot all of them in the back. When I looked at the cover I was behind, the tree and surrounding area was completely painted. I was on a speedball course behind cover, exchanging fire with (of all people) my brother. I look up, and he is charging up the field directly at me. Panicked, I take some shots at him and nailed him in a very sensitive area. He immediately went down and stayed down for several minutes, rolling around in pain. I captured it on my Gun-cam, you can see the paintball hit it's mark.(I've got plenty of good paintball stories, but I want to keep this short.)Airsoft:We were playing Ambush: VIP, and I was the VIP (No gun. I die, we loose). The course consisted of trails in the woods which lead to an open field. I had to go through the woods and across the field to a designated endpoint. The first leg was uneventful, we saw no action through the trails. When we reached the tree line, we decided it was best to book it across the field. We ran to the tree line, my bodyguard about ten feet ahead of me. He was the first to break the tree line. As soon as he did, he was shot up the leg and chest from near point blank range by a full auto MP5 and toppled over. As soon as I saw this I tried to do three things at once (thinking Oh Spit!): come to a sudden stop from a full on sprint, change direction, and book it in the opposite direction. Let's just say I face-planted and got shot up on the ground. I was stalking a guy who was facing me, staying just inside his peripherals (at least ten feet away). I shot him and, knowing the noise would attract others, immediately went prone in my ghillie suit. I was right, his teammate showed up to investigate. I took him out easily. This attracted a third teammate. I waited a good five minutes and, thinking he had gone, stood up to flank him. Turns out I stood up right in front of him and was subsequently lit up like a Christmas tree. (All these stories may make it sound like I suck at paintball/airsoft, but the most memorable events are often your worst.)Edit.I actually ended up writing an English paper on one of these stories. The Clearing A ski mask pulled over his face, Robert steadied his AK-47. The surrounding shadows merged with his dark sweatshirt and jeans. Shifting his weight, he anxiously scanned the path ahead. Both of us were sitting ducks here, he knew it. We had come to a fork in the road, providing us with two options. We could continue down the well-worn dirt path, or divert to a small, overgrown trail. "Come on." Robert whispered, eying the smaller trail, "Let's go."The objective was simple; navigate a maze of trails through the woods, cross an open field, and reach an endpoint on the other side. There was just one small problem; I must make it to the endpoint alive. I was the designated V.I.P., forbidden to carry a firearm and it was game over if I died. It was Robert's duty to escort me to the endpoint in one piece. Robert disappeared into the overgrown trail. Waiting ten seconds, I continued after him. Pushing aside ferns and thorn bushes, Robert and I slowly advanced. We knew it would be safe, they wouldn't expect us to follow this trail. Nonetheless, we kept a wary eye on the trees and bushes ahead. It was unusually hot, and I was beginning to sweat under my stuffy ghillie suit. The surrounding woods were eerily silent, a calm before the storm. As if on cue, there was a rustle off to our right. Immediately, Robert raised and lowered his palm, swinging his rifle in the direction of the sound. Catching his signal, I crouched low to the ground, adrenaline seeping through my veins. Tense, we waited for the seemingly inevitable. More rustling, this time accompanied by flapping. Robert's finger tightened against the trigger. A form shot out of the bushes, rapidly ascending to the branches above. It is just a bird. Sighing with relief, we rose and continued down the trail. We arrived at the edge of the woods, beyond which lay a small clearing. A mere one hundred feet separated us from the awaiting endpoint on the other side. One hundred feet of open field, it might as well have been a thousand. Robert and I came to the decision that we run across as fast as possible. We would be completely exposed, our fate placed at the mercy of the clearing. Drawing a deep breath, Robert sprinted toward the tree line. I followed, maintaining a distance of ten feet. Approaching a full sprint, Robert burst into the clearing. He managed to complete five strides before a sharp rat-tat-tat shattered the silence. Time slowed, Robert cried out in pain and toppled into the tall grass. He had taken several hits up the chest and legs at point blank range. A dark figure rose from the bushes directly ahead, looming above the surrounding flora. I was sprinting, full speed, to my doom. My mind went blank, overridden by three instincts: stop, turn around, and run. I attempted to complete all of these tasks simultaneously: come to a dead stop from a full sprint, turn one hundred and eighty degrees, and run. Momentum sternly disagreed, sending me in an awkward flying flop to the ground. Stunned, I lay on the forest floor at the edge of the woods. Regaining my senses, I felt several bee stings crawl up my back. I was hit, game over.

I thought I'd take the time, this wonderful Saturday evening, to talk to you guys a little bit about the polls that you will find on my website. In specific, I want to analyze with you what exactly these polls tell us. To do that we are going to start with the first poll I posted and work our way to the more recent ones (which, if you are looking at my website, would be going from the bottom of the page to the top). Poll #1: How Many Bands (On Average) Do You Put on Your K'NEX Gun? 40.91% (which is 18 votes) said that they usually put two bands on their K'NEX gun. 22.73% (which is 10 votes) said that they usually put 3 bands on their K'NEX gun, and the rest of the numbers go down semi-proportionally. Now, what does this tell us? Well, one of the things that we could take away from this is that if your K'NEX gun does not operate well with only two bands (whether they be #32s or #64s) , you probably should try again. In other words, your gun should be accurate, powerful, and smooth running with at most / at least 2 bands. And, to be honest, this should apply to the majority of K'NEX guns, which is part of the reason why I am not a huge fan of the NAR... Poll #2: Rod Ammo, Connector Ammo, Mix? Now, to be honest, I knew that this was going to be rather a contentious issue. I mean, after all, doesn't the K'NEX community go around and around about which ammo type is best? I pretty much expected that the results would be rather even, so let us see if I was correct. 51.85% (14 votes) said that they prefer rod ammo, 33.33% (9 votes) said that they prefer a mix of rod ammo and connecter ammo, and 14.81% (4 votes) said that they prefer connecter ammo. Again, what does this tell us? Well, if you are a people pleaser, then you might want to have your K'NEX guns shoot rod ammo. If you do your own thing (like most of us do) then... well... do your own thing. I personally prefer either a mix of rod and connecter, or connecter. I hate rods. They spin much more than mixed ammo, and have to many ridges for my liking, but all the same, do your own thing. Poll #3: Do You Think That a Full-Auto K'NEX Gun is Possible There is not much to say about this poll, so here are the statistics: 66.67% (18 votes) say "yes," they think it is possible. 22.22% (6 votes) say that they think it is not possible, and 11.11% (3 votes) say that they think it is possibly possible... XD Poll #4: At what time of the day / week do you usually mess around with your K'NEX? Again, there is not much to say about this poll, except that most K'NEXers are, as it were, weekend warriors. 37.93% (11 votes) say that they "play" K'NEX on the weekends, 31.03% (9 votes) say that they use their K'NEX in the afternoon, 24.14% (7 votes) said at night, 3.45% (1 votes) said that they build during the weekdays, and 3% (1 votes) said other. Other, what other? Also, 0% said that they use their K'NEX in the morning. +1 Poll #4: On average, how many guns do you build per year? I posted this poll 'cause I really was interested to see who did what. 34.78% (8 votes) said that they built between 10 and 15 guns a year, 26.09% (6 votes) said somewhere between 1and 10, 17.39% (4 votes) said that they built somewhere between 30 and 50 guns a year (I would be among this crowd), 13.04% (3 votes) said other, and 9% (2 votes) said that they build between 15 and 30 guns a year. Interesting. Poll #5: Do you think that a black firing pin will actually get better ranges than any other firing pin of the same size? I was truly interested to see what people would say on this issue, 'cause some K'NEXers would hold this view to their last breath. The poll shows that 52.38% (11 votes) say “yes,” 28.57% (6 votes) say “no,” 14.29% (3 votes) say “It depends on the gun,” and 5% (1 votes) say other… Other? What do you mean other? Poll #6: Internal Magazine Pusher or External Magazine Pusher? Which do you prefer? This is another thing that us K’NEXers argue about, I am personally in favor of EMPs, but others disagree. 65.22% (15 votes) say that they like IMPs, 17.39% (4 votes) say EMPs, and 17.39% (4 votes) say that they don’t like either (I would also be a part of this group, which may sound weird, but is nevertheless true). Poll #7: Do you think it is weird / arrogant / silly that people favorite their own instructables? Now here is something that we can all relate to. The poll shows that: 55% (11 votes) say that they do think it is weird / arrogant / silly that people favorite their own instructables, 35% (7 votes) say that they don’t think it is weird, and 10% (2 votes) say “other”/they are not sure. I personally think that it is weird / arrogant / silly that people favorite their own instructables. Poll #8: Do your parents / relatives like your hobby of "K'NEX-gunning?" 40% (8 votes) say “Yes,” 35% (7 votes) say “Sorta-kinda,” 15% (3 votes) say “I don’t know,” one person said “No,” and one other person said “Other.” All I can say is that we are not to respected/liked in the Instructables community. Poll #9: Do you like replica K'NEX guns (K'NEX guns that are made to look like a real firearm and shoot)? I posted this poll because I have heard lots of comments that amount to “I am tired of seeing ‘here is what I build from CoD’” but apparently, people aren’t THAT tired of replicas: 82.35% (14 votes) say “yes,” and a mere 17.65% (3 votes) said “no.” Ignore those comments where ever you find them, they are just mumbo-jumbo. Poll #10: Which do you like more? 40% (8 votes) said Replica guns, 40% (8 votes) said Performance guns, 10% (2 votes) said Model guns, and only 10% (2 votes) said that they like concept guns the most. Yet, this is hard to believe, as concept guns probably get the most views… Hmmmmmmmmmmm. So there you have it, let me know your thoughts. Note: This might have typos and bad grammer as I did not take a whole lot of time to look it over. Bring that stuff to my attention and I'll fix it. -The Red Book of Westmarch
