Could you avoid being fired? (TV opportunity for UK teens)

Refrigerator fire

So my Refrigerator caught on fire... it was weird. I was getting ice out of the freezer when I noticed the light was flickering, then I remembered the light burned out months ago, that was my biggest clue. And it explained the crackling sound I was hearing. I unplugged it before it got out of control or anything, and nothing was damaged.... Has anyone else had their fridge catch on fire?

Fire Kit

Here's an idea for a fire kit, not necessarily for survival or emergency. Someone want to make an ible out of it ? The idea here is that a coke can, once  completely dry, could provide both lightweight waterproof storage for tinder and lighting , and  also be an item to help structure the fire layout to provide proper draft and heat containment, . After the can is  dry you could stuff in some matches and cotton lint or vaseline balls, maybe a magneium stick. Maybe an obviously small candle.  Some items may need wrapping.  Then duct tape the hole When it came time to use, open with a knife. How exactly I would use the can to structure the fire is an open question.

Fire alarm!

This afternoon a couple of guys from the Mexican restaurant next door came up our stairs and asked how to get to the roof. They said something about a fire and smoke and it being urgent. We pointed them to our fire escape which has a ladder to the roof and then, for some reason, they lost interest and left. We were wondering if, you know, this was actually important or something when the fire engines started racing towards our building. So we looked out and two fire engines with ladders showed up along with 6 other vehicles and a total of about 25 firemen. It was on! The two ladders extended up to the top of the building where some smoke was coming out and a fireman climbed up to take a look. Fortunately, it didn't look too bad as none of the other firemen went up. Within about 15 minutes they started packing up and left. Just another day in downtown San Francisco.

fire sleeve?

Fire sleeve is a common term for a Silicone coated fiberglass sleeve, generally used in industrial or aerospace applications. Fiberglass acts as an insulator or barrier for constant temperatures up to 540ºC. Silicone is generally able to withstand temperatures up to about 260C degrees continuous. Silicone, however, has the added benefit of being able to withstand and repel much higher temperatures for short durations, including liquid molten metals. Fire sleeve is used as a protective sleeve on industrial hoses, hydraulic hoses, cables, wires, etc. Fire sleeve generally refers to two variations: An aerospace version is made with a braided fiberglass substrate and is commonly used in the aerospace industry. Its construction enables qualified hose assemblies to meet the SAE standards which have been established relative to the protection which this product provides. An industrial version, constructed of a knitted fiberglass substrate is also available. Because it is less expensive it is more commonly used in hot industrial applications where this type of protection is needed. The industrial version will not meet the SAE standards. Fiberglass sleeve—without the Silicone rubber coating—has a higher continuous temperature rating, up to 1000ºF or 540ºC and is available as a knitted or braided sleeve for protection of hoses and cables where molten splash protection or weld splatter protection is not required. Fire sleeve is used for industry, aerospace, automotive, mining.

I am looking to build a device to launch indoor ball of flame, 2 to 4 ft in diameter without taking the house down.  Was considering propane as fuel.  I am working in an area with 14 foot ceiling.  Had thought of using paintball gun valving but I am not out to re invent the wheel.  If anyone has any ideas or plans I would thankfull.

Fire Safety!

I became interested in hobby electronics after seeing this instructable: Light BarWith projects like this, the more components I buy, the cheaper each component is (ex: buying LEDs in bulk) so I will likely end up with more parts than I would want for myself. If I make a lot of these things (or similar projects) and give some to friends, how can I make sure that they are completely safe?

Fire Pole!

My house has undergone some small renovations over the past two weeks, the best of which was just installed this morning: a fireman's pole for sliding down!My boyfriend has also got the ability to climb back up... I have not yet attempted that. Here are some pix and videos. The construction is not quite complete yet so it's still all sawdusty and unpainted - looks like a workshop more than a home, but you know it's at least half workshop anyway.Down the pole: Up the pole:

Fire Balls?

Hey, I'm back. Well, I never left, I just never came on Instructables. I'm on the forums on BYMC all the time, though. If you go looking for me, I am known as Alt Ctrller on there, and AIM. Well, i was surfing youtube, and I came on this video, and I was dumbstruck. How are they not burning they're fingers? What the hell? So I scanned Google for the burning point of Ronsonol Lighter fluid, known as Naptha and white gas, campstove gas, and coleman fuel. No results. It looks like he made a round "wick", and thats it. But how is he not burning himself? My ideas:-Burns really low(relatively)-heat rises, no burns-no contact long enough-he's high and he can't feel the burns-he's just stupid-a combination of any one of the above fiveWhat's your take? I know I'm going to try it, I like risks....But what about denatured alcohol? also known as meths and methelated spirits....?would they burn too hot?

how do you build a grenade launcer?

It looks like a short sholder mounted rocket launcher only it takes the big co2 canisters, fires those nerf footballs that have tails, and loads from the top by cocking the front barrel forward and loading the round into the barrel before snapping it back. It was in a video on youtube.

Duct tape or fire?

Recently at school there was an assignment in which we had to do a survey of 20 people.  The teacher came up with 10 Questions and we had to come up with 5.  Seeing that many people liked fire or duct tape, i asked which is better, fire or duct tape?  The typical answer was "that's an impossible question" or "flaming duct tape".  So which is better fire or duct tape? ***UPDATE MAY 5, 2011***  ok so the score so far is duct tape 9, fire 4, and flaming duct tape 1.  and ratings 2 c'mon people lets get some ratings.

HEAT: A Fire Cabaret

If you haven't heard yet, The Crucible's annual summer homage to fire is moving indoors this year, transforming their industrial arts studios into a searing jazz-age underground speakeasy where fantasy and fire converge with sultry music and machinery.  Some of the best talent in the Bay Area will perform amidst artisans plying their fiery trades, and guests will be invited to explore an industrial speakeasy alight with furnaces, forges and flames.  Time to get started on getting all dolled up for the 1920's -- think flapper dresses, finger waves, tommy guns and bootlegged fire.  More info and tix at: www.thecrucible.org

New Firing Mech?

So I was messing around with my knex when i realized i had made a new (I think) firing mech. It works similar to a hammer on a revolver. To cock the firing pin you just have to pull down on the hammer. Its very easy to do with one hand so you can  dual wield. Range is only about 20 feet though. I'm planning on working on it some more so i will update soon.

The Crucible's Fire Cabaret

If you're going to this wild and wicked event, and you want to dress to kill, check out some ideas (and get tickets) here:  The Crucible's Fire Cabaret There are some other good ideas here on Instructables, too, for flapper dresses, tommy guns, how to do a finger wave, or headress.  This is gonna be one hot event -- you'll see some hot jazz and blues, and also jaw-dropping demonstrations in blacksmithing, welding, flameworking, and more -- accompanied by burlesque dancers, aerialists, contortionists, and other amazing talent.  Bring a camera too and strike a pose against a backdrop of fire sculptures, bootlegger cars, and a blazing industrialist environment.

Fun Fire Toy

This is a fun toy I made in the Boy Scouts to scare the younger kids. First take three pages of newspaper, roll them up, and tie it tight with a long thin rope. Then take a candle, light it, and pour the wax over everything but a small edge of the rolled up paper. Light the one end, and if done correctly, the 'toy' should last a few minutes. The long rope gives you the ability to swing it around in the air, and scare people with it. I am not resposible for any burns, forrest fires, or any other type of injury or fire. Use at your own risk, and keep water handy, just in case.

frets on fire help

So I found this really cool guitar hero like game for the computer called Frets On Fire. Just google search it and it should be the first one. Its a great game and all where you use your keyboard up side down, using f1-f5 as fret buttons and your enter key as the pick. The coolest part about it is the uploading songs. You can take original guitar hero I and II and up load those songs. Also, you can upload custom made songs by other users. Heres my problem. I can't upload those songs. I've tried songs off thepiratesbay.org and keyboards on fire, but for some reason I just can't get them to run on the frets on fire program. I keep adding the, to the fretsongfire/data/songs folder, in torrent and other formats, but I just can't get them to work for some reason. If any one could help, that would be great!

Well, I got fired

Well, yesterday i got some bad news from my boss. after missing a shift because of a long Harry Potter movie, I called to tell her what happened and that is when it happened, " Well this is the last time this will happen because I'm afraid that Steve (owner of the store) has told me to let you go". She then hung up quickly. So I ran down the the store and called Steve, He said that he had NOT SPOKEN TO MY BOSS FOR A WEEK! Displeased with her lie i asked him to talk to her. She managed to make me sound like a useless pay-robbing dick, so he fired me for real this time. although he said that i could use him as a reference, i still had to leave what I actually loved doing. Now, i sit here Unemployed because of a really bad, little kids Harry potter movie. Does anyone know how to handle this?
