Flagging fault

I tried to flag some flag some spam forum topics.  The first couple of times the response was very slow. The third topic I flagged, I did not get the message confirming the flag, I got this instead: 500 -- error: org.hibernate.exception.GenericJDBCException: Could not execute JDBC batch update (Possibly temporary fault - five minutes later, all is back to speed, no more error messages)

Flagging not working

I tried to flag a comment here but totally failed as nothing at all happens when clicking on the flag. Running on Win7 64 using both Chrome and Firefox to no avail. Also notice when starting a new topic the upload area is messed up. Tip: Select multiple files using CTR Is this uploader not working for you These two lines of text are printed on top of each other.

Flagging Spammers

How do I flag a spammer with the new and improved interface?

Topic by seandogue    |  last reply

Flagging suggestion

We've all seen 'em--spam postings. And they turn up en masse, 5, 6 or more together. While this may sound lazy, can we reduce the number of clicks it takes to flag an offender? It current takes four mouse clicks per post. --click Flag --click Spam --click OK in dialog box --one last click to dismiss the note informing me I have just flagged someone (I was already aware of that). Maybe flagging shouldn't be too easy, but the process is tedious for multiple spam posts...

Flag request: "other"

I'm sure this has been suggested elsewhere, but nothing came of it, either way, and it has come up again in a conversation with another member by PM. Currently, Instructables can be flagged for three reasons - "inappropriate", "incomplete" or "spam". Whilst they cover most eventualities, I would like to propose a fourth flag option: "other". Of course, "other" is rather vague, so its use would require details - clicking it would open a comment or message box to allow a brief description of the reason for the flag, whether it is the original source of a project that has been ripped off from elsewhere, or a concern regarding the safety or legality of a posting. I don't know coding, so I don't know if such a system is possible with this site. If it isn't, then can I suggest that a fourth flag option be added called "Legal issues", or some other catch-all phrase that covers issues of intellectual ownership and site liability.

Flag for duplicate comments?

Can a flag be added for handling duplicate comments? I bet this is happening because of the delay you get when submitting comments from certain browsers and people get click happy. https://www.instructables.com/id/DIY-Electronic-Cigarette/?comments=all#C6OFK55I9JRAXMA Thanks in advance MRB

New flag suggestion

We have the option to flag comments as "not nice", "inappropriate", and "spam". Can we add another flag that reads, "the site is called 'instructables', not 'gobuyables.'" for all the comments where people say, "This is dumb. I could buy that at the dollar store."

Flagging is not working in Answers

This morning, I tried to flag a SPAM Question (https://www.instructables.com/answers/who-dare-to-click-this/), but clicking on the FLAG link in the box did not do anything: no pop-up menu, just the URL changed to have "#" at the end. I checked with a couple of other posted Questions, and they all behave the same way, so it's something is the way the page is being generated. This is on FF on MacOSX. I did clear cache, cookies, etc. (without having the individual Question page loaded), and saw the same effect afterward. Was there an unannounced update overnight?

Heath and Safety Flag

I think it would be a good idea to add a new flag category: Health and Safety, to cover instructables whose use could cause bodily harm or have unintended consequences. Many ideas pass through here, some are not as well thought out as others, and some are just dangerous and unsafe.

No Featured Flag On Instructable

On my last instructable,https://www.instructables.com/id/How-To-Make-A-Better-Cardboard-Cutter/ , I received a notice saying this instructable had been featured....yet when I look at the instructable, no feature flag appears. Appears to be a bug, to me.  Also no avatar picture is in place when going through my instructables. I noticed on others the same thing happens, while on some, it does not. To be more clear, it is the picture box below the byline showing author...what shows is what looks like a "placeholder" : pdf, adobe....

Dangerous or Incorrect instructables

"Flag As" only supports Wrong Category, Inappropriate, Incompleted, and Spam. How does one report something as "Dangerously Wrong"?   Such as this one that was actually part of the "Featured" email that goes out from instructables: https://www.instructables.com/id/Power-Bank-1/

new idea for flagging comments

The current method of flagging will still happen, but i just wanted to add to it. i think the author should be able to remove comments from their ibles and topics if somebody else flags the comment first. if the author flags the comment, then its up to the staff

Option for Flagging copied content instructable

I opened up the site and saw this great looking lamp instructable on the homepage (https://www.instructables.com/id/DIY-Recycled-TetraBox-Lamp/) I really liked it and thought of putting up a comment when I saw that in a previous comment, another user mentioned seeing the exact same images and content before in another place. It's nothing new that people are blatantly copying content(which might be copyrighted too) for winning prizes, but these appearing on the main homepage is a little disappointing. Another example of such project getting featured on homepage was a 9V-battery top spy bug instructable some time back. I understand the instructable staff can't keep knowledge of every project ever posted, and to feature only the original ones. But can we have an option to flag as "Blindly Copied" with link to original work, so the instructable staff can check and remove it? None of the current flag categories match the requirement,

I think I accidentally flagged someone that I didn't want to......

It was in the forum:  https://www.instructables.com/community/What-Do-You-Like-To-Draw-1/ This post:  craftyv says:                                                                                     Dec 25, 2010. 2:02 PM   I have been drawing (doodling) for years and have kept most of my pics. They tend to be small, 2" square or circle and were all black and white originally but lately they became coloured and often up to 10 on an A4 page. Geometric shapes, convoluted lines and even simple patterns are prominant. I have decided to show them to our Instructables community somehow. Perhaps as an Instructable, something like. [How to fill hours of your time and enjoy every minute] I actually draw in meetings, watching tv, on the phone etc. What do you draw? When I REALLY wanted to flad the group of links in the post above.....My apologies for the mistake.

I tried flagging this user's comment as spam https://www.instructables.com/member/sohbetsiteleri/ Such as the one found here: https://www.instructables.com/id/Lasercut-Boxing-Kangaroo-Toys/ But I get a javascript error: "Uncaught ReferenceError: feedBack is not defined" in https://www.instructables.com/static/js/CommentControl.js Using Chrome browser on Windows 7. That's obviously a comment-spam-only account, so look at both of the comments.  The LED Throwie thread has got several spam comments.

Moving Forum post to Answers- Flagging

Noticed that Forum posts can only be flagged {Inappropriate, Incomplete , Spam} but not "Wrong Category". Would be nice to have the "Wrong Category" option also.  There are forum posts that should be in the Answers section, not bumping discussions down in the Forums. Could this be possible as a future site update?

Showing featured flag on photos and videos

When a "Step by step" Instructable become featured , you see a flag in right part of the steps that means this instructable is featured . But when a "Video" or "Photos" instructable become featured , you can't find out this is featured or not . I know you can see featured star in "editors' picks" page or author profile , but when you open that instructable do you see any thing that say this instructable is featured ? The "Videos" and "Photos" instructables need a change to show they are featured or they aren't . For example instructables can show featured flag in a corner of picture or video .

Spam-only users

I don't know if this is the right area, feel free to move this message if it isn't (if you can do that). Is there some way we can notify users as spam, the way we can with Insturctables and comments? There has been a rash of new users, mostly allegedly 25 years old, posting spam instructables about a couple of DVD ripping/converting programs (Cucusoft and Daniusoft, IIRC). The instructables are written like genuine ones, so at a glance aren't obviously spam, but there have sometimes been duplicate postings of identical 'tibles by the same persontheir comments are pretty much more of the samethe screenshots of the products appear to have been made for other purposes, they haven't used the 'ibles image hint box thingsKarel Jansens has commented on many of them and has also flagged them, but it seems like a bit of a chore commenting all their Instructables and comments when the users are transparently only there for the purpose of spamming.Just from a quick search for "DVD converter": danke, chickchest, seinfelder, Adam Smith, D Eric, floxir and skyocean appear to all be spamming a couple of video format converters.tl;dr- can we report users for the banhammer? Does it count as spam if they post a well-written set of instructions for how to use software that happens to not be free? EDITIt's getting worse, it appears- the spam users are commenting on each other's Instructables to make them look legitimate. Observe this fine specimen:More blah about DVD convertersAll three people who have commented on it (at time of writing) are spam-only members who appear to only exist to talk about this software. The names Daniusoft and afterdawn predictably come up again. Blueberry, tracyjump and CrayDeng can be added to the list above.I'm officially petitioning the site admins to ban all of these users (and preferably their IPs) and remove their Instructables.

Are Flag Reports on Comments getting to Instructables Staff?

I just flagged a comment for spam on my instructable but I didn't get any indication that it worked. (i.e. no message). So then I went to see if a comment I flagged for spam a month ago was removed, but its still there. In both cases, the comment is just a link to another website, and has nothing to do with the topic (i.e. spam). I know I've flagged a few others, but I can't remember where they are. Are flag reports getting to staff? or is this a bug and its stopped working? The spam comment I just flagged on my instructable can be found here. The spam comment I flagged a month ago can be found here. Screenshots of the comments are shown below.

Tall PVC Flagpole

I know there are already instructables that show how to build a PVC flagpole, however what I need to build is different.  I want to build a flagpole that is 15-20 feet tall and can withstand relatively strong winds.  In addition, it needs to be portable and be able to be disassembled, so the sections of PVC can be no longer than 5-6'. I am worried that just using standard PVC connectors to connect the different sections will not be strong enough to withstand the wind.  This flag will be placed in the sand on a beach facing the ocean, so a 15-20' tall flagpole will need considerable strength. I figured I would use a 5 gallon bucket filled halfway with cement as the base, and then bury the base in the sand so it is sturdy on the bottom.  From there, I am having trouble coming up with alternative ways to attach the sections of PVC (besides connectors) that will withstand high winds and not snap.  Do you think the connectors will in fact be strong enough? If not, are there any good alternatives? Lastly, would drilling holes into the PVC (to attach eye hooks) compromise the strength of the PVC too much?

Spam flagging not working or reporting to mods

Feature NON-request: flagging users not postings

With the recent spate of spam postings, it occurred to me that, "wouldn't it be great to be able to flag the spammers directly, rather than the individual postings"? Less than a minute's thought revealed the obvious abusive disaster that would entail (especially among those of a knexish age and gender). Sigh...

New Spammer Account Is Posting Ads On My And Others' Instructables

I'm getting spam from a new account called "PhysicsSupplier". Given the username and given that all of the comments posted using the account so far have been advertising an eBay account, I think it's a pretty fair to assume that it's an account created to post spam, and not to be a constructive member of a DIY community. So far, it's posted the following message twice on my latest instructable: "Instead of using a wine bottle, may I suggest that you consider using SoCal's " Experimenter's Tube " This is a heavy glass product that can be used for pressure and high vacuum experiments and the cost is low for what you are getting. It comes with a 20 page manual for various experiments and with some slight modifications it can be used for this experiment as well as others. You can obtain the tube by going to ebay and click to listing #'s 380137978058 or 230664743887. Thier website is socalusa10@gmail.com Best of luck." I flagged the comments as spam, but I didn't get any sort of confirmation, and the robot has been giving me some trouble lately, so I decided to post here to get an admin's attention. Thanks! Bug related to text editor rollout? Flag interface VERY SLOW to load

I just went to flag an obvious SPAM posting.  The flagging interface hung up, and took more than ten seconds to appear.  It had the same kind of problematic delay as the new text editor box.I wonder if these long delays are actually related, somehow, to the pretentiously fancy "fade in" technique that's being used.  A simple, and fast, pop-up would be much friendlier to the users, if not as sexy to the developer community.

Plagiarism fix - add another option to the flagging feature

An instructable was recently featured wherein many of the viewers of this instructable recognized the images from a different Author, and no credit to the name of the original author. I tried to flag it for admin, but there are only "Wrong Category", "Inappropriate", "Incomplete", or "Spam" as options to flag with. Although I don't want to add more work to your plate, I think if the community can flag a directly plagiarized ibble, that would be best. Here are the posts:  Original by KaptainSkarlet:  https://www.instructables.com/id/Make-a-gorgeous-Dragons-Egg/ Copycat:  https://www.instructables.com/id/Really-Cool-Dragon-Eggs-for-Easter/ I think keeping the Instructables community free to copy is fine, but not direct ripping of the same images another author used. And not without crediting the author. Thanks!
