I got me a new laptop, and it looks pretty boring. So I drew flames on either side of the keypad on the empty spaces. However, it doesn't seem to be permanent. When I keep my palm or finger on it for a long time, the color fades away. Any help on how to get it to be permanent?

Joho! i am making something similar to the "fireslinger" made by tetranite. The big difference is that mine w ill use short jolts of gasoline, that come from a perfume tester, so there will be short big flames, but i need something to ignite the small cloud of gasoline. the problem is, that it cant be a flame, or a torch, because it will be mounted on the wrist. so i will need a reliable ignition source, like a electric shock, the only problem with electricity i use, is that the sparks are too small to ignite everything, so i need bigger sparks, made by anything that will easily spark!

Hey everyone, this is my first post and i was wondering how i would spell out a message on the ground in flames for a special occasion. I saw this sort of thing in the movie Daredevil, i think... where the police officer threw a lit cigarette on the ground and it ignited "DAREDEVIL" in flames on the ground... i noticed it burned for a while as i was watching the movie, and i talked with some other people about it and they suggested it could be some sort of gel... any ideas?

Gotta love this so-not-street-legal mod to a scooter that shoots 15-foot flames out the back. Just a push of the button and WHOOSH! The creator, Colin Furze, can even change the angle if he wanted to. Aside from being illegal to use the biggest downside is that the flames can come back at him if he isn't careful. Wheels on fire! Please read full post before making any comments. First of all yes, I know real flame throwers use napalm and compressed air to operate, but I don't want any crazy range and lethal power. I don't intend on using this thing in combat. I'm thinking something with a 4-5 foot flame, more if possible, (I don't think it would be with propane, but please, correct me if I'm wrong). I don't want a jet flame so I'm assuming I'll need to lower the pressure to get a more "violent" looking flame with the desired ranged. A "gas pump handle" for the flame control (sorry I don't know the proper term for that type of mechanism. it's not really a trigger. A lever valve?), or I might use a solenoid, not sure yet, Whatever would be more effective. Again, please give me any input your may have. The fuel source would be a large propane tank that I will have strapped to my back, I already have a design for that. If that seems too extreme I might do what this guy did and use a small tank with a reservoir, but with two tanks for more fuel. ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ypIGeNdJbJ4 ) I'm undecided on whether I want electric ignition if anyone could give advice on that as well it would be appreciated. Anyone who has made something like this or knows what they are talking about please give me your input. Yes, I know this is a dangerous project and I take full responsibility should anything go wrong. This is a video showing the flamethrower that in the above video being used. It displays the kind of performance I am looking for, except I don't want it strapped to my wrists. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D5_ogU4Jzt4

Say if I was to sell electronic objects invented by me or friends, that may or may to be functional or may or may not be artistic what are the laws/certification/inspections/flaming-hoops that I would have to clear first and what is that entire process like? Does anyone know? The FCC is one of them, and it pertains to whether your object will make planes fall out of the sky or turn off pacemakers dues to magnetic waves or unauthorized frequencies, correct? Who ensures that the objects won't catch on fire or melt into a caustic China Crisis goo? How you convince them of this? Who else do you want or need a rubber stamp from before you can sell your radio wave emitting blinky bug at the garage sale? Or your robo-fridge ("Is your fridge running? Better go catch it!") in your Etsy shop? What if it had a sim card? Any illumination on this would be invaluable!

I was going to make an instructable on mini roasting when something hit me. When you use the lighter to light maybe a marshmellow, is the fire or smoke or fumes from the fire toxic? I mean the gas/alcohol gets neutrilized when it burns up and turns into flame but If i cook with it, it may be a different question. If someone asks me to think about smokes, the I should say to you that smokes are already toxic and anyone smoking shouldn't care. ( I don't smoke, I want to live) If possible you can answer this question and have credit in my next instructable.

Via PhysorgThis robot uses the same way humans walk, but actually falling forward. "PhD student Daan Hobbelen has demonstrated for the first time that a robot can be both energy-efficient and highly stable. His breakthrough came in inventing a suitable method for measuring the stability of the way people walk for the first time. This is remarkable, as ‘falling forward’ is traditionally viewed as an unstable movement. To watch Flame in action click here (WMV, 5.25MB).Next he built a new robot with which he was able to demonstrate the improved performance: Flame. Flame contains seven motors, an organ of balance and various algorithms which ensure its high level of stability."Robots that can chase us flesh-bags down to power themselves are now one step (pardon the pun) closer. w00t!

I want to make a big torch that lasts a long time and is inexpensive. Does anybody have any ideas? I was thinking that I could use a coffee can for a container for the fuel and a big piece of cotton for the wick. I saw a pretty neat torch on this website but I don't think that it would last for hours.

Synopsis: I'm a novice here. I'm trying to make a small electric tea light candle work from a solar landscape light to put a "flame" into a crappy 12" metal dragon sculpture for some yard art. My quandary: The solar light only runs off of one AA battery (1.2 - 1.5v). It appears to be using a 0116 IC? (I know nothing about these) to act as the Joule Thief to power the white LED that I assume is running around 3v. The tea light uses 4.5v (3 x 1.5v) and has a 47 Ohm resistor, a capacitor, and a chip to control the "flicker" of the light. The Help: Can anyone offer up some suggestions how I can properly get the flickering tea light to run from the 1AA solar unit? Could I do something like: 1. Remove white LED from solar light and check voltage 2. Replace resistor on tea light to accommodate voltage coming from Solar battery 3. Solder new wire from where the old white LED was on the solar light to the power leads on the tea light. Thanks for any thoughts, support, or reference.

My bike is a standard mountain bike and I wanted to give it a more custom look than my paint job. I thought the best way to do this is to add a flamethrower to match my custom paint job which will be a red pinstripe around the flame, when the flame itself is grey. The flames will have skulls airbrushed in it. The rest of the body will be black with a little red pinstriping action. Maybe even some lettering reading : "Beast". probally with the same skull and red paint scheme. I want the flamethrower to fit in with everything else well, but I don't want to change the frame much, or paint the flamethrower.

Hi !This morning, I was wondering what was the maximum temperature of the flame of a simple candle. So, this evening, despite the answer is on the internet, I made some quick and various experimentations of my own, mainly because there was nothing interesting at TV ...I put a wire of tin with a diameter of 1 millimetre over the flame and it liquefied immediately. So I immediately deduced the temperature of the flame was over 505oK ...Then, I tried with a wire of iron with a diameter of 1 millimetre, and it did not liquefied. So, I deduced the maximum temperature of the candle's flame was below 1811oK.Then, I tried with a very thin wire of enameled copper (thiner than a hair), the enamel vaporized in a flash and the copper wire quickly liquefied. I deduced the max temp of the flame was over 1357oK.This gave me a maximal temperature somewhere between 1357oK and 1811oK.Then, I tried with a thin wire of copper (0.2 millimitres), and it liquefied. But I also noticed that, sometimes, there was a green flame adding to the candle's flame. On the internet, they say that coppers flame are green. This would mean that my candle's flame is hot enough to vaporize my copper wire ? and, thus, that the maximal temperature of the candle flame is over 2835oK ?????If so, why can't it liquefy my 1 millimeters iron wire ?=o/

Hi everyone! :-) I want to go to a fancy dress party as a Fire Goddess, but I'm a little stuck on finding the best way to make a fairly realistic flame effect for my dress. I was thinking of starting with a black sheer mini-dress, then sewing various shades of two-tone organza on in small strips to look like dancing flames, to create a kind of 'flame vortex' effect. I know that's a really bad description, but hopefully this little picture I found might give you a better idea of what I mean: http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_INmNOB9JiHw/SgMoA0oxU8I/AAAAAAAAAOY/PSNiC473-WQ/s1600-h/flame-dress-sketch-lo.jpg I have no idea whether there is a better way to do this, so any suggestions or ideas would be very welcome. :-) Thanks!

Hi Im working on a flamethrower which is turning out pretty well, the only issue is, since im using alcohol as the fuel, the flames are pretty much invisible, i was wondering what i could add to increase the carbon content. Normally ide experiment with adding a little gasoline, or diesel to it, but i have to be careful with my pump, its made from either ABS or PLA, and for some reason everyone on ebay who sells them are very sketchy, ive bought 4 in the past and only the last one ever arrived. Anyway, what can i add to my fuel to make its flame more visible? Fortunately my flamethrower does not leak at all so its safe to move up from alcohol to something with a higher burning temp. What can i add that will not dissolve the plastic, increase flame brightness, and not increase the burn temp too much. Before hydrocarbons, are there any salts or chemicals i can dissolve into the alcohol to do this? i beleive i can dilute the alcohol a bit with water so it will take sodium, but will that have any significant effect? The sun is pretty bright here so alcohol flames are invisible, gasoline flames however are very visible in contrast. Thanks

I built a pressurized jet alcohol stove and when I light it with no pot stand or windscreen, the jet flames are 2" tall. I add a windscreen and pot and soon I have a 2 foot tall blaze. I tried taking off the wind screen and I still get tall flames. I am using red HEET, but I am not sure that the fuel makes a big difference. I hypothesize that the reflective heat from the windscreen and pot are making the stove heat up and vaporize the alcohol faster. I tried putting holes in the wind screen and I still get big flames! I want a safe backpacking stove and I'm sure others have had this problem-- any thoughts on why it is so dangerous?

Hello everyone! I have a problem that I've been working on for a while. I need to instal a mobile unit in the sprinklered mall. The Fire Marshall told us that the mobile unit has to be installed with sprinklers or with a ceiling that dissolves in the water AND flame retardant in the same time. Installing sprinklers is not an option. Also, the ceiling has to be about 8x20. I need to know if it's possible and if yes, what materials would work? I would really appreciate any help! And If it's possible even only in theory, please let me know.

Let us consider a typical home electric fan, and we put some obstacle to prevent the fan propeller from turning, then we switch on the fan on the fastest speed; will the fan and when eventually break into flame because the propeller cannot rotate? Have there been experiments to see what will happen? Marius de Jess
Question by Marius de Jess | last reply
I'm still working on this solar thing and it's coming along pretty well, am starting in on the final piecing of things together. One old problem that has resurfaced tho is the sealing of the boiler. I was using a metal epoxy similar to Quicksteel, which handled the ethanol ok but is going soft and cracking off, I think due to the regular heating > 80C. So I'm once again looking around for other options. What I'm trying now is wood glue, which I assume is just PVA, run over a flame so that it becomes hard. It seals the ends of the flattened copper pipe well, and doesn't immediately fail on contact with ethanol. Is it likely to hold up, do you think? I'm kind of assuming it won't, but it'd be great if it did. cheers Daniel.

Well, hello there, I'm trying to figure out how to use some small flexible gas tubing of some kind and a sparker to make a project that will make it look like a flame is shooting out of each finger and thumb. I'm also trying to figure out a way to control the sparker and the highth of each flame without using my hands as they'll have flames shooting from my fingertips. So any thoughts? Thanks, Daemon Ulf
