Flash drive problems

EDIT: I found a flash drive, and it doesn't work. I plugged it into my computer, nothing. I plugged it into a laptop, and it said that there was a power surge in the usb device. Any ideas?

Concrete Flash Drives

These flash drives by Shu-Chun Hsiao are serious. The drives are encased in concrete and are embossed with the weight of each one, a number that correlates with the flash drive's capacity. I love the idea, but 256g sticking out the front of my desktop is just going to destroy itself. P.S. This would make a great entry for the upcoming USB Contest Concrete Memory, Get Totally Cemented via TechEBlog

Program a flash drive

Hi everyone, I have a friend who have helped me to attach some components on the chip of the flash drive to make it possible to select some LEDs to lid. So with this new components I'm going to make a software that changes 4 LEDs in the flash drive. This software that I'm going to develope is going to be on the flash-drive and not on the computer, and when I press a button "turn on green" or something similar the green light should led. Now to my question. What programming language should I use, and how do I make it possible to "talk" to the leds? Hope anyone can help me with this, Thanks in advance xddx

Ipod flash drive

Hey I was looking for a broken ipod mini the other day so I could get a new case for mine, and I noticed that many of them still have working hard drives. That's when it hit me. I was thinking, why let all that space go to waste, when you pay $80 at the store for just a 2 gig flash drive. Would it be possible to make a flash drive from the hard drive in the ipod? At first I was just going to wire the drive to a USB port, but I'm thinking that may not work. Does anybody out there know more about how flash drives work? I think I have a good idea, now I'm counting on your imput!

Flash Drive file copier?

I have an idea for a project but im not sure where to start. I want to make a device with two USB ports. You insert a flash drive into one and your android phone in the other and then you press a button and files from the flash drive are transfered to your phone. To start I want to know if there are any chips or micro controllers that anyone knows of that can be used for this. I know that there is a device called a syncbox (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/415491-REG/Macally_SYNCBOX.html) that copies files from one flash drive to another. But i dont think it works for phones. If anybody can help me with this project I would greatly appreciate it.

LED Flash Drive Cube

I am making an LED Cube with a flash drive built into it, one for my friend (birthday coming up) and one for myself. I was thinking about having 8 LEDs in it to sufficiently light the cube up. LED - http://www.ebay.com/itm/50-Round-5MM-Ultra-Bright-Red-Led-6-000-Mcd-USA-Seller-FAST-/281134922484?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash;=item4174f27af4 I wanted to rig it up so that the LEDs were powered by the USB, but then I thought that it may not supply to enough power to power the LEDs and the flash drive at once. Would the 5V current of the USB port be able to power both the flash drive and LEDs (if so how would I connect them?) or should I use a separate power supply (battery with a switch)?

flash drive music player

I have no idea how to make this, but i thought it would be cool if, instead of erasing music from your mp3 player to put more on you could just take a storage bit off and put a new one on. In essance there would be two parts to the player. A storage device (in this case a flash drive) and a audio player. Any ideas?

USB Flash Drive Tester

I am looking for a tester to use to test USB Flash Drives.  I found a cool USB port tester on instructables, but I need something that would test the hardware functionality of a USB Flash Drive not the USB port.  I am not sure if I am saying this correctly, but reading about the functionality of USB Flash Drives, it appears to be a fuse on the circuit board.  I don't know if all drives have one.  Many of the videos I watched on YouTube require taking apart the drive and jumping the fuse to see if this is the problem.  I thought if there was a way to test to see if the circuit (I am not sure if I am describing this correctly.)  was completing then it would not initially require someone to take it apart.   Looking into this a little further, I see there are four leads on a USB.  It looks like from what I read that lead 1 [+5 VDC] and lead 4 [ground]. Are these the two leads which should show a completed circuit via a tester?  You probably have already figured out by now that I have no knowledge of electronics. Thanks for your help.

SONY Flash Drive HELP!!!

Help!!! Today I had my flash drive with me and was working on some school projects. It worked fine in the morning. Though later I was messing with Batch and saved them to the drive root. Now when I plug it in windows waits for about a min. then says that new hardware was found. When it's done it says that the device is malfunctioned. I don't know what to do or if that batch file is even the problem. If it is I think that it changed the devices properties into making windows think it is bootable. I have plugged it into my Linux machine but still no dice. It won't even come up there. Oh, and I can't reformat it because it's in a way not there. I really need those files for school any way to get them back would be great. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

How do I clone a USB flash drive to another one?

The premise- The school gave us USB flash drives that have special software in them as a test drive. The software will automatically open when plugged into a computer. I want to transfer all the files in that drive to an Ativia flash drive for 2 reasons: 1- The Ativia drive has more memory2- I will have to give the flash drive back later onI have tried simply dragging and dropping all the files, but this does not work. One thing I have noticed is that the USB drive the school gave us was read as 2 separate drives: Drives J and K. That should help some. In case you are wondering, the flash drives the school gave us are the blue and green bracelets in that picture. Thanks for your help!

A 5 gig file won't fit onto an empty 16 gig flash drive?

I have a 16 gigabyte flash drive that's relatively empty (13.7GB free space), and I was trying to put a 5 gigabyte .ISO file onto it.  However, when I try to copy the file to the flash drive, I get an error saying there is not enough space to put the file on the flash drive.  I know this is not true because I have over 13 gigs of free space. Is there any reason for this weird error and is there any fix? This is kinda important.

USB Flash Drive keyring attachment

Everybody loves their flash drive, and most people keep them on their keys (or if you're really cool, on a lanyard around your neck with some kind of card identifying you as a professional geek). A few months ago I bought a little 4gb Lexar Firefly, and I love it. It's tiny and holds lots of information. As you can see in the picture, the hole where you attach a keyring is in the lid, not on the body of the drive. This cuts down on the drive's size, but means that the drive might fall out of the lid, or get forgotten and left behind. Naturally, this happened after not 3 months of ownership. After a while I lamented ever finding my trusty drive, and tossed the little clear plastic cap. However, lo and behold, I did find my little USB drive a long time later--Bbt now I have no way to attach it to my keys! Does anybody have some ideas for a key-attachment mod for my little firefly? I'd like to avoid adding any kind of bulky casing, but I will if it means not having to drop $25 on a new one.

Things to do with a broken flash drive

Hello there. I just broke my 16GB Strontium Pollex drive and I'm left with nothing but the circuit board (Pics below). It doesn't fit into the USB port (too small, push up=on, remove support=off) smugly, and well, this is my only 4GB+ flash drive (I have another broken 1GB one, but at least it doesn't wobble around in the port). What do I do with this to make it usable again?
