This idea came from cartoons so bear with me.i have seen some flash powder instructables but not any flash paper ones (or so i think)using tetranites flash powder (https://www.instructables.com/id/Flash-Powder/) and mix with the idea of making paper (http://www.pioneerthinking.com/makingpaper.html) if you substituted "recycled paper" with flash powder could you make a flash paper that would ignite with a poof when lit. my conclusion is that the sponge would absorb the water along with the powder, but adding flash powder after making the paper while its still "wet" in step 9 add a layer of powder and sandwich it. maybe have one end without powder to make a rough fuse.i dont know what do you people think?

I recently took apart a flashlight, which features flashing LED's. They only have 2 leads each. One flashes on and off, and the other blue and red. I can see a small black dot inside them, is this some type of transistor? I am also wondering if there is a way to get a bi-color (3 leads) LED to flash using a transistor. What kind would i nedd, and how would i nedd to hook it up? ( diagram appreciated)

We all get bored at some point, right? Or we just want to slack off from school or work. So we play games we call flash games. Some of them completely suck, while some could have been sold for a price and been insanely successful (might be exaggerating a bit there). My point is what are some of your favorites? Personally I liked The Last Stand, Unreal Tournament, Tanks, and I can't remember any more right now...

I remember a long whiles ago coming across some kind of script for firefox or safari to right click and disable certain flash banners on web sites, but not all of them. I was wondering if anyone can remember what the app was called as I can't. My issue are these retarded orbital sander ads on the front page, it keeps expanding across the page every time I visit the site here and laggs my safari for like 5 minutes until I can finally click at that close button (VERY frustrating).

I want to make some LED's flash together without using to many complicated parts and very few parts. I just want to build a simple circuit to do the job, nothing to complicated or expensive. If anyone could show me a simple way to do this it would be very much appreciated.

My father and I make model trains. In one of our buildings i want to make it like a club, with colour changing lights(hoping to use a 2 leg RGB. Im still new to designing circuits and wondering if there is some-one out there who could help me make a circuit that would allow me to control the speed in which the LED will change colours and also have a on/off switch. If there anyone out there who can help me feel free to e-mail me on here or at firstname.lastname@example.org. Cheers Daniel

I have undertaken a sign project for my work that involves LEDs flashing in sequence. We are a Fire and EMS education program and want something that is going to grab attention. At first the project was supposed to be just solid burning lights but has been changed. I'm guessing they want something like the old style movie poster chasing lights or alternating flash between 3 sets of LEDs. It's a little more advanced than I had planned and don't know where to start as far as components go. I've already got the switch they want me to use, it is very similar to a toggle switch but has a safety cap. My sign is a little larger than a standard letter size paper and I'm thinking 10 or 15 lights across the top should look pretty cool. Any suggestions on where to start or what I need? Thanks, Matt This is the switch: http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2062493 The photo I've included gives you an idea of what it is we do.

What is the easiest/simplest method of making a flashing light (preferably a small string of LED's or a piece of EL tape) connected to a momentary push switch? no timer or any other complication just lights that will flash on and off until the button is released. i want to make a flashing indicator light and switch small enough to mount on a ring that i can wear on my pointing finger so that the button hits the back of my hand as i straighten my finger to point and the light flashes only until i curl my finger to release the switch.

Well today as I stared at pocket cotton candy machine, I thought I should add a flash animation explaining the basics of how cotton candy machine work. Now that poses a problem. I could export my animation to a video, but when you do that in Adobe Flash it deteriorates quality and basically turns it into a slide show instead of an animation. So this post is to suggest the possible add-on of flash support for instrucatbles so that those of us who use flash don't have to ruin our animations. Plus flash loads faster.

These flash drives by Shu-Chun Hsiao are serious. The drives are encased in concrete and are embossed with the weight of each one, a number that correlates with the flash drive's capacity. I love the idea, but 256g sticking out the front of my desktop is just going to destroy itself. P.S. This would make a great entry for the upcoming USB Contest Concrete Memory, Get Totally Cemented via TechEBlog

Hi everyone, I have a friend who have helped me to attach some components on the chip of the flash drive to make it possible to select some LEDs to lid. So with this new components I'm going to make a software that changes 4 LEDs in the flash drive. This software that I'm going to develope is going to be on the flash-drive and not on the computer, and when I press a button "turn on green" or something similar the green light should led. Now to my question. What programming language should I use, and how do I make it possible to "talk" to the leds? Hope anyone can help me with this, Thanks in advance xddx

Hello Instructables community! I just purchased 10 Atmel AT49F040 flash chips off eBay (I couldn't buy just one..) and now I'm wondering how in the world I'm going to program them. I'm hoping to desolder the ROM chip from a Gameboy cart (yes, I'm using a tutorial) and replace it with this flash chip. It seems easy enough, but I'm not sure I want to spend $45 on a Willem Programmer.. Anyone have ideas for how to program on the cheap? Thanks, Derp

I know instructables needs advertisements to stay afloat, and I'm fine with that. But that popup flash-ad for san luca, from rovion.com is horrible. I mean god awful. It's the type of thing that drives people away from websites, and causes them to install flash-blockers and ad-blockers. When we do that, instructables doesn't get ad revenue, and that's bad. So please, for the love of God, Bob, Steve, or whoever your deity is, get rid of them, so we can support your site by seeing the normal adds, and even clicking on them occasionally.

I know that it's pretty easy to cannibalize a camera flash to do some pretty simple things...but i find it difficult (probably by design) to solder things to these prebuilt boards (especially the "charge button"...that things not built for soldering)...i was wondering if someone could work up a circuit schematic with part numbers (or at least part identification) for a flash circuit like those in a disposable camera...so that someone could build it from scratch in whatever form factor they choose.

Hey I was looking for a broken ipod mini the other day so I could get a new case for mine, and I noticed that many of them still have working hard drives. That's when it hit me. I was thinking, why let all that space go to waste, when you pay $80 at the store for just a 2 gig flash drive. Would it be possible to make a flash drive from the hard drive in the ipod? At first I was just going to wire the drive to a USB port, but I'm thinking that may not work. Does anybody out there know more about how flash drives work? I think I have a good idea, now I'm counting on your imput!

First off I'll tell you to NOT TOUCH A CHARGED CAMERA CAPACITOR, IT HURTS. I had a disposible film camera that I took apart. How do I discharge it? If I cut one of the leads off the compacitor would it discharge or explode, damage the circuit board? How long would it take to self discharge?

I'm not really sure where to start with this, but in the end I's like an LED strobe where I can control how fast is flashes precisely (for example 5khz). My Ideas so far is you have an LED hooked up to my laptop via usb with a simple program to control the speed and how many times it flashes. Right now I've got LED's and usb's and 100ohm resisters if i need them. From what I've read I don't think I can control the usb port's power so I'm assuming I need a driver board or something? I'd love some help with this but I assume I've been too vague, mostly because I'm not sure what i'm talking about. Any help I can get would be amazing. Thanks

Ive been studying the intertubes for a bit now and I cant seem to find an explanation on how a disposable camera flash works in detail. I mean I understand that it runs with two transformers, one at 300v output to charge the cap and the other to help discharge the payload through the xenon bulb run at 2000v output. but a transformer doesn't work with out a pulse or rapid continuous change in voltage. so how is it inverting to ac or am I missing something stupid

I am trying to make an LED flash grenade that I can use for airsoft/paintball. Basically I want it to countdown (from around 6-9 seconds just long enough to push the button and toss it into a room) and when it reaches 0 it would turn on multiple LED's (in a 360 degree pattern) but only for a brief period. (just long enough to temporarily blind someone.) I am pretty new to electronic circuits. I think I would use a 555 timer but not sure. What would be the easiest way to do this? Thanks in advance for the help.

Hello, I have an imac. This appeared a few days ago and sits over any youtube or embedded video clip. I have run a full system scan using Sophos but it gave the all clear. I cleared all my cookies. I've clicked Deny but it stayed there. I've looked up imrworldwide.com but it all seems to relate to PC'c. Has anyone with a Mac had this problem and, if so, what did you do. Thank you

I don't have a lot of money to spend on stuff at the moment. What I do have is flash guns. Four of them in fact, three of which can be fired with triggers. Now I could invest in 16 rechargeable batteries. Or should that be 32 in case I run out? And a crap load of chargers. And extensions cos we have no spare sockets in our house. But that just doesn't seem right to me. Heres what I propose : 1) make some dummy batteries from wood with wire running through the middle. Three of these go in each flash to carry the connections 2) a fourth dummy battery carries wires out of a small notch in the battery flap door 3) said wires are connected in parallel to a large rechargeable battery - I reckon a 6v from an old British motorcycle (fast draining) or from a granny wagon (deep cycle) should do the trick. 4) when I'm done shooting I charge this single battery from the mains charger I have (does 6/12v) I figure 4xAA batteries at 1.5v = a 6v battery, bu extra size should last longer, be more convenient than carrying around dozens of AAs and changing them and if I want to use AAs when our and about I still can Any reasons tho wouldn't work or I shouldn't do it?

Hi everyone. I mess around with HO scale slot cars and have had decent success lighting them with LEDs using track voltage and simple resistors to power them. I have ventured into the use of full wave rectifiers to smooth out the power and a small capacitor to eliminate the flicker. The problem I am having is when trying to use multiple blinking LEDs. Single blinking LEDs haven't caused any problems and I've had good results with them. The problem starts when I use more than one. I can get a pair of them to work on the bench with out any problem at all, but when they are soldered to the slot car chassis they might work for 3-5 minutes and then they stop blinking, and usually get hung up on one LED staying lit. What is even stranger is if I take a piece of brass rod and touch the anode of the dead LED, it will light up momentarily (and the other will go out). I only have so much room to work with so flashing circuits, large capacitors and voltage regulators are out of the question. Keep in mind, these cars are the size of a hot wheels or matchbox car, and the chassis uses up most of the internal space. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

I have a bank of 30 x 6 volt lamps in an old computer console and I am trying to find a circuit to flash them in a random pattern. Ideally the lamps will be driven from a chip rather than individual transistors. I'm perfectly capable of building the circuit, but not designing it. Can anyone point me in the right direction please? Thank you.

Here's what im looking to do: i want to set up my plow truck with tow-truck lights, like i've seen on "Operation Repo". Each of the 4 marker lights would have about 10 LED's housed inside the lens, and they would alternate flashes. opposite corners would flash at the same time, and the 2 pairs would alternate in a AA-BB-AA-BB-AA-BB-AA-BB fashion. its a vehicle, so i would obviously want it to run off of 12vDC. the circuit needs to be controlled with a simple "On-Off" toggle switch. the circuit also needs to be simple, and fairly inexpensive. i can BUILD any circuit you want, but i really have no idea what im doing when it comes to designing. Long story short, here's what i need: -12vDC feed -toggle switch -40 LEDs, split into 2 alternating groups -simple -budget build i KNOW someone out there can do this crap in their sleep, and help would be greatly appreciated. ive looked all over, and cant seem to find a schematic or anything close enough to be adapted. just to be clear... im looking for a strobe effect, moreso than a slow blink. the truck has blinkers... im looking for attention-getting strobes

The joule thief from this website was the first working one I built, mainly because I'd favoured one without a tapped inductor. Anyway, I pulled it out a couple of days ago, and started poking around with it. I noticed that if I put a 10uf (or maybe it was 1uf or 100uf, sorry, I don't remember) capacitor in parallel with the 0.001uf capacitor, the LED would start to flash. this would not happen with any other value however. Why does this happen? P.S: I've heard that this joule thief is poorly designed. Is this true?http://talkingelectronics.com/projects/LEDTorchCircuits/LEDTorchCircuits-P1.html
