Flip flop?

Hi, I'm a little rusty in digital electronics, does the attached diagram represent a flip flop? I need a logical circuit that change state (output: from 0 to 1 and vise versa) when triggered (pulse). An I.C. number would be more helpful. Thanks!

Using Capacitors in a flip flop LED flasher circut?

Hello guys, I am very new to electronics, so please bear with me. I am trying to build using specs from various places a seemingly simple flip-flop led flasher using a 9V dc power source, a pair of NPN transistors, a pair of capacitors, a resistors. Now I have built the circut several times on my breadboard. I have yet to get the circut to work. I tried to troubleshoot the problem myself, and done a little research. It seems that capacitors wont work with a dc current, or so most of the web sites say. The problem is all of the circuts I have seen use capacitors, even the 555 circuits. The only thing I have done different from the diagrams is I am using a slightly larger (30 or so farads) cap. They are the the ceramic disc type. Am I using the wrong caps? Not sure what I am doing wrong?

D-Flip Flop and Clock Alarm

Hey there! I'm trying to hook up one Set Pin of a 74LS74 Double D-Flip Flop to the alarm of my clock. I've already desoldered the annoying buzzer thats been there before and am now measuring the voltage provided to the buzzer. Unfortunately the circuit only provides around 0.1-0.7V (crescendo alert) with each beep, which doesn't seem to be enough to raise the Set Pin to HIGH (0.8V min. I think). So I guess I'm supposed to use some kind of transistor now. Just to make sure I'm asking you guys. Also, if I want to run the clock from a 5V DC wall wart instead of the original 1.5V battery, I suppose the only thing I need to add are some resistors in series. Would that be correct or would there be anything else needed to ensure the clock takes no damage? Would be really nice if someone could help me out with this! Best regards, Philipp

Switching voltage inputs with a chip

I have a small project I'm working on that uses rechargeable batteries.  However I want the device to stop drawing from the batteries whenever an external power source is plugged in.  (The external power source would then power the internal battery charger and the main device.)  Is there a chip or circuit that could be used for this?  My only alternative is to modify the power supply port to include a micro spdt that will switch when plugged in.  But I'd rather like to avoid that.

I was wondering about flip flop circuits

I was wondering about flip flop circuits and how I would have say up to 10 led blink on one moment then the other 10 blink the second moment than back to the first 10 and so on. the flip flips I have seen are single led. is it possible to use the analog and just string the 10 leds together. p.s. working on an xoxo led sign for valentines. running off 110v would the flip flop option be the way to go or is there another less parts way to go about it. I want the x's to blink on when the 0's are off and the O's on when the x's are off. or the first xo then the 2nd xo. not sure yet. also want the "tempo" i.e. the resistor value to be changeable so i can make it faster/ slower thank you!

Flip flops - paint is rubbing off - type of sealant to use? Answered

I bought a pair of flip flops the other day and the paint is already rubbing off where I put the most weight on my feet. I was wondering- is there was any type of sealant I could use to help prevent the rest of the design from rubbing off? It's ok if I'd have to reapply it every once in a while. Thanks in advance. :)

Why do memory modules like flip-flops have a not q output and an r input?

Why do memory modules like flip-flops have a not q output and an r input? What is the necessity of having either? In a d latch the r input is connected to the s input with an inverter, why is it necessary at all? The same goes for not q, if you really needed an inverted q output then you could just add an inverter when necessary. The only thing i could think of is that somehow these are used to connect individual modules sequentially (a 16x4 memory would have 16 rows of 4 bit words; how are the modules connected to form 1 word?)

I have a question about using a 555 timer as a flip-flop? Answered

I have it set up so that I get an out put signal that goes High for about 1/2 second, and then goes low for about 1.33 seconds. The problem is that the output is to go through 2 LEDs, the one is supposed to light when the signal goes high, and the other when it is low, since I have the other leg of each LED tied to ground or source respectively. IF you are really familiar with how LED's work, you probably see the problem I have already. When the signal goes high for the first time, the LED tied to ground, lights....and stays lit. The source provides current whether there is a signal out or not. Is there ANY way around this, without me having to scrap this and redesign it for a 556 ? NOTE: I've replaced the stock pic with a partial schematic of my circuit

What does this chip actually do? Answered

Its labeled MACH210-15JC-18JI I've looked over the data sheet, and it says: 44 Pins 64 Macrocells Peripheral Component Interconnect (PCI) compliant 32 Outputs 64 Flip-flops; 2 clock choices 4 “PAL22V16” blocks with buried macrocells So, it holds data bits with flip flops? In the specs it says D or T type flip flop. Its programmable, but what does it mean by that, how would you "program it" it has 44 pins, and some I/O. What do you think the applications of it are? I have the pinout, but that doesn't really do any good if I can't figure out how to "program it"... It can run at 133MHz tops, but if this was memory there would need to be a section that says when to read/write on rising or falling edge of said clock. It doesn't say that. EDIT: So.. what does High-Density EE CMOS Programmable Logic mean? Sorry for the questions lately, just trying to figure stuff out

Filling Hollow Plastic

I need help with my cheap sword. It's hollow plastic so it tends to bend and flop. What should I fill it with so it's more heavy and stiff? I want the fill to not shift or melt/disolve the sword please.

Ideas on how to make a flimsy plastic sword stiffer?

I'm going to be a in a production in a few weeks and the swords for our guards just arrived yesterday. They are great, and we got them for a great price. Only problem, they are about 36 inches long and kind of flimsy. They flop a bit when swung. The plastic is solid and looks really good. Any ideas on how to stiffen them up a bit?

IR Switch. Will this work? Answered

Hi Guys & Girls Obviously, i am new to this and my electronics knowledge is very limited. Let me first explain what my desired outcome is and then proceed with the questions i have. In the schematic below i connected two circuits that i found. One is a infrared receiver and the other a flip flop. With that, the following needs to happen : when the user presses a button on a IR transmitter aimed at the receiver circuit in the schematic it is sent through pin 3 to the flip flop circuit which in turn puts the relay in a (permanent) ON state. When the user presses the same button again, the process is repeated and puts the relay in a (permanent) OFF state. So bottom line a 1 button/channel IR press on press off switch to switch my 12v circuit on/off. Here are my questions: 1. Is the receiver circuit correct as i have drawn it i.e. will it work? 2. Is the flip flop circuit correct as i have drawn it i.e. will it work? 3. Where i have the red circle : 1. Is the connection between the receiver and flip flop circuit there correct? 2. Do i need another resistor there? 4. Do i need a “floating resistor” as a R5 around the relay and how does the practical application of this look (on all the diagrams i look at it’s drawn around the relay going from an input to an output on the same wire......does that mean that on the pcb it will run parallel between the “pos+ and neg-“ going into the relay?) 5. Is my relay connection correct within the blue circle? 6. All and all, put together will my circuit work as expected? I know there are probably a whole bunch of ways to achieve the result i am looking for and being a noob, this might be the most impractical(i don’t know), but the reason i went this route is because i have these components available to me and if at all possible, i would not want to go and buy other components. Thanks in advance for any help provided. I find it much easier to learn by building the circuits and then seeing with a multi meter etc. what the effects of each component is than reading through all these books and trying to cram everything into this thick skull of mine  Schematic Component Values : R1 = 220k ; R2 = 100k ; R3 = 10k ; R4 = 10k ; R5 = ? C1 = 1uf ; C2 = 0.01uf ; C3 = 10u Rx1 = Any tsop/similar U1 & U2 = 555 timers

A problem with my gun

Ok. I've scrapped the Mamba 12-G because there wasn't anything new there. I am bringing back the AR-4 Commando, but there is a problem I loaded my mag with 4 shots, and it has very low range on 2 of the shots The first two are fine, but not as great. The next two fly 3 feet and flop. The range on the other two is lower than my Mamba and earlier versions of the commando. I am using Banana inventor's mag for the gun....

How do I create an ON-ON-OFF switch using a momentary push button switch??? Answered

I have a project where there are one set of LEDs and another set of LEDs. I am interested in using a momentary push button switch to act as a ON-ON-OFF switch so if you press it once the first set of LEDs turn on -- press again those turn off and the second set are on or if you press it again if turns both off -- etc. How do I do this???

how to make an automatic paper towel dispenser? Answered

I'm trying to build my own, but I'm not exactly sure how it works. I currently have a 12v power source, a PIR sensor, and a 12v motor. I've read online to try to figure some things out and a came across a set reset flip flop. i figured this will make the motor run then stop and reset the circuit. but when i try to connect everything nothing happens. in its simplest form i want it to dispense for probably about 3-5 seconds then turn off. is there an easier way to achieve this?

I recently got a chaos duel disk off of eBay but it is missing the part on the bottom that keeps the sock and straps in so the duel disk doesn't flop around on you're arm. dose any one know what to do, I've searched every where online and I can't find the replacement part (like a place that sells it). Old Fashioned Key

I was thinking the other day about how I could make all of the gothy underclassmen even more jealous of me and my accessories, when I came up with the idea of having a giant, ornate key as my keyring. Kinda like in the secret garden, or some other old fantasy type movie/book. I couldn't find any starting points at the craft store, but I was thinking it could probably be made from wood, metal, or some type of sculpting medium. SInce it'll be a key ring and flopping around with keys in my purse, it will be rather vulnerable to dings and chips. Any ideas?

How to use Scalapack as a benchmark?

For a science fair project I am comparing the performance of MPI and PVM on GPU clusters. The biggest problem I have is finding benchmarking software for PVM. Linpack is the most used benchmarking software, and from there I have gone on to find Scalapack, a set of libraries which has the same type of functions as Linpack, but supports both PVM and MPI. From my understanding, Linpack, Specifically HPL , Is a set of functions along with a program which utilizes them for benchmarking. Scalapack, on the other hand, appears to be only the funtions, with no program. Does anyone know how to use Scalapack as a cluster benchmark that measures performance, in flops if possible?

Replacing the 2N3904 with an SCR

So i made a laser alarm system some time back, it worked good but had one fault, more like a limitation. it made the buzzer ''buzz'' only when the laser was interrupted and the buzzer turned off when the laser was allowed to hit the photo sensor again. i wanted it to stay on until turned off by a switch. someone suggested something called a monostable flip flop but i had no idea what it even meant, then i saw something called silicon controlled rectifier or a thyristor, but i also learned that they have to be made using a pnp and npn transistor, what i cant understand is what transistors should i use to replace the npn transistor on my circuit, the tansistor on my cicuit is 2n3904, input voltage is 5v

Logic gate set up with basic principal of "A is I: B is I for 1 click, then O//A is O: B is I for 1 click, then O"?

I've been looking about for awhile now for a solution to this little puzzle I've managed to get myself into. I know the question may have failed to be a proper logical statement, but basically, this is what I need: When input a is on, output b will toggle on for one second, then toggle off. When input a then goes off, output b will then toggle on for one second, then off. Basically, when the input state changes, the output will go on for a second, then off. I know the opposite can be done (that is, one second input toggles a on output, or visa vers) with flip-flops, but doing this is a bit outside my realm. Any help would be fantastic! Push button to toggle servo direction - monostable 555 circuit? Answered

I would like to build a circuit where I push a button once and a servo moves 180 degrees and stays there.  If I push the button again it should move back to the start position. A switch is good alternative, whichever would be easier. I've been looking at circuits to do with 555 timers and servos and have found these two which seem useful: http://www.555-timer-circuits.com/servo-controller.html http://www.dummies.com/how-to/content/electronics-components-555-timer-chip-in-monostabl.html Is that second circuit what I need?  How would I change the direction of the servo each time it runs? I looked into flip-flops such as the 4013 which came up as a suggestion instead of a 555 but quickly got out of my depth.  I'm happy tinkering around with electronics but unfortunately don't know too much of the theory...

quick release tripod plates

So for a few years now i've been using a small speaker setup strapped onto the tail of a longboard skateboard to provide music at skate meets and fun bike rides etc, and it's worked well enough, however at 13kg on the highest point of the board it has a tendancy to flop into corners and mess with the handling. Recently the amplifier broke so i want to use this opportunity to redesign the whole setup... for a start im hoping to reduce the weight by about 5kg i found this video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QAI5W6AgSYg) on youtube of a skateboard sidecar for a child which i intend to modify for the speakers but i don't want it permanently attached to my board, would 1 or 2 quick release tripod plates have the strength to keep the mechanism attached to the board until i wished to remove it? i know you can get plates to support some particularly heavy cameras so would there be one that would be up to my task?

Bunion separators made to suit an individual

Hi there, Does anyone have ideas on how to make/get hold of a silicon type material to make moulds of so called toe separators.   Something which could be made to an individual's needs, i.e. I would make it for myself and if it works, to share it publicly, as I am sure those who suffer from having bunions would benefit extremely.  Unfortunately the products available on the market most of the time don't work (and is waste of money and resources), as all of us have different toes, feet, alignments etc. Any ideas on how to make such material at home and cheaply are very welcome. THANK you in advance! To peace and comfy feet for all! P.S. I have attached a few photos of these products to give you an idea of what I mean.  The silicone which is used is soft but sturdy enough, which doesn't hurt the joints of the toes.  It would be great to be able to mould these around flip flops (and other shoes) permanently - so that they don't move about.

Ok, thank you to all who helped me "search myself".....

I FOUND IT ! After MUCH soul searching, I finally found my trigger and it is NO WONDER I was having a difficult time "coming to this conclusion" it is because the trigger itself was preventing me from admitting the trigger to myself LOL I think I shall go and Irony some shirts now ;-) FEAR ! The great negative motivator. I had failed at a few projects, and feared starting ANYTHING, for fear of another disappointment. Now, it really is simple; I came to this when I realized I was starting to come out of my depression, but not all the way, and was preparing and preparing, and gathering "intelligence" and info, but still delaying the start of the project......I always needed more INFO but only because I feared having the whole thing FLOP. It came to me this morning and I felt relief that NOW I can move past that, and get to work on changing it, because I have never feared failure in this way before. But then, I am getting old and doddering ;-)

I've got aggressive monster blue black wasps that won't die with wasp killer spray!!!! Help me please? Answered

I live in Massachusetts. I have an inground pool and the nest is under the edging of the pool. They're HUGE like 2 inches long and they're black with a blueish hue and frequently carry grasshoppers into the nest. I'm not sure but from researching they might be digger wasps That's what wikipedia says but when I google image search them it's not the same looking wasp. I've tried killing them with wasp/hornet spray but the dam things are invincible and the spray doesn't even phase them! Last year I killed a handful of them by stalking and smacking with my flip flop which isn't easy because they're fast and very aggressive. You can't get within 10 feet of the nest and they after you. I have dogs, curious dogs. And kids. Kids with friends that like to come swim but everyone's afraid to go out there because of these things. What's the right chemical to kill them with I've tried this wasp killer

Homemade SAPI Plates anyone? Answered

So i just bought a bunch of new tac gear, but mainly a new plate carrier and a bunch of pouches. and while i was out there runin around out there feelin legit, i noticed that with all my gear, the vest kinda flops around without any plates. so im too lazy and cheap to buy a $30 useless hunk of square plastic that no one is ever going to notice, and i wondered, why not homebrew it? so if ANYONE has an instructable or knows how to make fake SAPI "ballistic plates" PLEASE reply...PLEASE          UPDATE- some people seemed to get the impression that im using this for real steel purposes. i can see why they would think that, since i was a bit vague on that part of the question. HELL NO. i will be using this for AIRSOFT. those are 6mm plastic bbs flying at speeds of 350 feet per second maximum. so just about anything works. and im wearing eye protection. so no one is shooting their eyes out either.

Simple AM transmitter

I wish to make an extremely small (size and part count) AM transmitter using only a few transistors and passive components. I wish to transmit an audible tone on a set frequency.I am thinking along the lines of a transistor flip-flop circuit oscillator, perhaps routed through another. It really needs to have less that five/six small components. DIP components are too big. Small electrolytic and other capacitors, transistors, and resistors are acceptable. Transmission distance needs to be at least 1/4 of a meter, but further is better. It needs to run on between 1.5 and 6 volts, low to middle'in milli-ampage im thinking watch batteries for a few hours at least. schmitt trigger for solar panel

Hi, I'm building a solar panel project that may use the charge battery and so on. As solar output is not consistent, I have a capacitor array to store charge before deliver it to the end devices. However if the solar output power is lower than the end devices(example charging phone) power load, it will probably on and off since the solar output is not enough. I would like to use by capacitor array to reduce the on and off rate by design a Schmitt trigger or perhaps it a flip flop circuit. For example if my Solar panel max voltage is 12v and my  device using 5v thru a voltage regulator that need min of 6v. So I would like to design a circuit to do this 1) When capacitor array discharge to 6v, terminate the circuit to regulator. 2) Wait for the solar panel to charge the capacitor up to 12V 3) Upon reach 12 V, allow the current to pass thru regulator again. Repeat step 1 I tried so search Schmitt trigger circuit but I cannot find the suitable one as most Schmitt trigger  is with a Vref and signal input. Since my voltage input(capacitor charging and solar panel) is variable, I do not have Vref. I still believe it can be achieved, perhaps my mind stuck at one concept only

Got contest ideas? Want to help HQ staff?

You may have noticed that we run a lot of contests here on Instructables. Big ones, little ones, sponsored ones, weird ones, helpful ones, and the occasional flop. We like contests, because they reward what many of you would already be doing: making creative things and sharing them with the world. We run contests for two main reasons: to reward authors with the kinds of prizes that help them to make more cool projects, and to give sponsors an opportunity to foment authentic customer experiences. The best contests combine the two with an awesome theme and even awesomer prizes. Since we started running contests, we’ve given away hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of prizes. Prizes ship out much faster than they used to (it helps that interns aren’t running the shipping room), and we’re pushing our limits to see how many engaging and awesome contests we can run at once. This year alone, we’ve run about 20 contests with prizes totaling ~$25,000. We’ve got more in the works, too. This is where we need your help! If you’ve got contest theme ideas, I’d love to hear them. If you have prize ideas, leave ‘em in the comments. And, if you or your business want to sponsor a contest of your very own, send me a PM.

Awesome Things to do in Halo

Hi there, fellow halunatics. In this forum, you can post awesome things that you have done/seen done in any of the Halo games. Other games are not welcome. Anyway, here I'm going to list some things that are just downright awesome to do. Keep in mind that over the course of time I will continue to add to this forum. - Facial grenades. When you go up to an enemy and stick a plasma grenade on their face. This practice is funniest with a Grunt as the victim. - Headshots. Especially badmirable when they're moving and/or you hit your foe in the face, as this is just awesome, and it usually makes flop around in a comical manner. - Keeping the energy sword after you run out of charge so that you can punch people. Hilarious with Grunts, as their faces are just at the right level for your fist to pound on them. What a happy coincidence >:D - Bullfighting/toying with Hunters. Safest in Halo 1;  Hunters can't swing behind them. - Playing on Legendary without dying a lot. If you can do this, then congratulations, you are good at Halo. - Killing a Grunt/Elite just as he's about to throw a grenade so that it lands next to him and blows up his friends. A real Master Chief moment. - Not dying. Life is regarded by most people as a healthy practice.  - Ninja Mode. Sneaking around an area (possibly with the help of active camouflage), killing your foes without firing a single shot. Extremely awesome if an entire area can be successfully cleared in this manner. - Energy sword/gravity hammer kills. 'Cause they're just awesome. - Splatter kills. Shows that a) you know how to handle a vehicle well, and b) you are confident enough to get that close to your enemy to kill them instead of shooting them from a distance. - Boarding. Can't do it in Halo 1, but its still awesome.

57-Storey Death ray

Concave, polished, and 57 stories tall - the Vdara Hotel in Las Vagas could be the world's largest death ray... Reports are cropping up around the web that the smooth curved surface of the hotel focuses the Sun's rays into a patch around 10 feet across in the pool area, soon after noon. Fortunately, the glass disperses around 70% of the solar energy falling on it, otherwise lawyer Bill Pintas might not be here to tell the tale; After a brief dip in the hotel pool, Pintas was sunning on a recliner. He was on his stomach, relaxed, eyes closed. But suddenly, the lawyer became so uncomfortably hot that he leaped up to move. He tried to put on his flip-flop sandals but, inexplicably, they were too hot to touch. So he ran barefoot to the shade. "I was effectively being cooked," Pintas said. "I started running as fast as I could without looking like a lunatic." Then he smelled an odor, and realized it was coming from his head, where a bit of hair had been scorched. It was about 12:20 p.m., as best Pintas can recall. The hot-spot, which sweeps the entire pool area during the day, spikes at least 20 degrees above ambient temperatures, and has been seen to melt plastic bags and cups (made of plastics which melt at around 70°C (160F). Other guests, including newspaper reviewers, have also observed the burning beam. The hotel management doesn't call it a "death ray", they prefer the more friendly distinction "solar convergence phenomenon". Gordon Absher, a spokesman for MGM Mirage says the hotel is addressing the problem, and comments, "Because of the curved, concave shape of that hotel, they sometimes get isolated pockets of high temperatures." ---------------------------------- Never mind dispersing the light - get those windows polished up, and let's see how many lawyers a fifty seven storey burning glass can really deal with!
