Hi, I want to release droplets of water one-by-one on command, and have been doing some research on how to do that, but I'm wondering if anyone has some other ideas or has heard of a ready-made solution. So far I have come across: ======== -peristaltic pumps with really low flow rates, like the one here http://aptinstruments.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store;_Code=AI∏_Code=SP100VO&Category;_Code= It goes down to 0.09 ml/minute, which should be small enough. I can selectively turn the pump on and off, feeding water to a small tube or dropper end, producing the water drops. These are pretty expensive, the cheapest one I've seen is around $60. ======== -DIY systems like the one pictured here with a solenoid opening and closing a safety pin on a tube. http://www.maggiecarsonromano.com/index.php?/projects/what-made-the-wound-wound-the-thread/ Maybe I could tune the distance of the solenoid so it just opens the pin a tiny amount, and a drop or so is allowed through. ======== -or I could use a more typical water pump, attach it to something with a really small aperture. I have a hard time picturing drop-by-drop control with this, I might be able to release very small amounts, and maybe some 2nd reservoir between the motor and dropper could be designed to aid this. ======== Is there a ready-made solution to what I'm trying to do? I have a setup in my mind, consisting of a plastic bottle(filled with water) with a male threaded neck. This bottle is sitting upside-down so the threaded neck is on the bottom. I want to transfer this water to a cup(by freefalling water) through an electrically controlled solenoid valve. The problem is, the plastic bottle I have picked out has a neck outer diameter of 1-1/2 inches, and assuming I want to directly connect the solenoid valve to the neck, I need to get a 1-1/2" diameter valve, which is above $100. Is there any way to connect this container and a valve(still not picked out) without that high a cost? Maybe a reducer of some sort(i looked but cant find any with 1-1/2" diameter on one side)? Well our van must have a leak or something, because the fur on one of my cat's backs is all spiky, and my dad says it smells like transmission fluid. He must have walked under where it was leaking. My dad says it's not dangerous as long as it doesn't touch his skin, but we're going so have to get it of somehow. Should we cut some of the hair off his back? Try to wash it off?

Any idea's for a 12V-15V DC circuit to drive some transducers e.g. AU 12550 ? On board Water/Fuel mix, try in an ultrasonic cleaner! 35%H2O + 65%H CO is stable and burns just mighty fine thanks. Make it free to the world and free the world ,hip, hip ,hooray!

I am building a camera rig, and I would like to be able to accomplish very fluid movements with it. I have seen all kinds of existing camera rigs, but they all seem relatively static in one way or another. Simple bi-directional movement is alright, but something capable of vertical, horizontal and rotational movement would be preferable. If you push downwards, the camera moves upwards - that kind of thing. Even a material that is semi-flexible would work, as a rod to attach the camera to that would provide some sort of resistance, and a position to snap back to. I'm not looking for the whole design, just a starting point if anyone has any ideas about something that already exists that sounds like what I'm saying.

The last time I bought wiper fluid, it was $4/gallon. I don't want to spend $4, and I don't want the leftover 3/4 gallon of wiper fluid kicking around my apartment until I run out of wiper fluid three more times. My owner's manual, and every other published reference I've seen, warn of the dire and dreadful consequences of using anything but commerically formulated wiper fluid; but they don't say what might happen. So, if I fill my wiper fluid resevoir with water mixed with a bit of denatured ethanol and a hint of household cleaner, what might happen? Will the wipers cease to work? Will my car explode? Will the earth go spinning off its axis and wind up having to hang out with Pluto and the other Trans-Neptunian Objects?

As in, "a 16 osi blower delivers 400 cfm of air through a piping system..." I know that cfm is a way of writing cubic feet per minute. PSI is pounds per square inch. Building systems to move gases and liquids around safely has really had me stumped till now, especially when dealing with HVAC. I'm not familiar with some of these units.

I'm having a bit of a headache trying to chose and procure a working fluid to use in my solar device. It needs to be low boiling, but as my device so far is involving copper, aluminium and maybe some plastics and rubbers, it would also need to be as non corrosive as poss. Cheap and plentiful are also important, not so much for the prototype, but when these things are ultimately used, they need to be easy to assemble. The four options I'm aware of so far are: Methanol boils at 64.7 Â°C, I thought it would be easy to get but is turning out quite difficult and maybe expensive, also apparently eats through every material I plan to use. Ethanol Boiling Point: 78.4 Â°C, easier to get but still corrosive. Hexane Boiling Point: 69 Â°C, not corrosive (?) but not at all easy to get or cheap. Water Boiling Point: 100 Â°C, which may be a bit too high. The fluids will be boiling in a non-pressurised but sealed environment, so no atmospheric water will be able to get in or out. Help?

Ok, how about this; Submerge a waterwheel type structure with cups facing downwards on one side. Under the cups you have some kind of heating element. The fluid is methanol or some other low boiling fluid. A very small amount of heat from the element will produce bubbles, which rise and are caught in the cups, the wheel turns and can generate electricity or whatever. I'm using this principle in another application, but thought it could be quite an efficient means of generating electricity from heat. If the meths is sitting at forty something degrees and boils around 50, it shouldn't take hardly any energy to tip it over. And since you're effectively generating force from gravity (the weight of the fluid on the other side of the wheel) you're kind of getting ten times your force back. ie producing one litre of bubbles will give you 9.8 Newtons of force (for water, 8ish for meths). So (excuse my dodgy maths) 125 litres of bubbles in an hour would give you 1 kiloWatt hour? One cola bottle per minute, doesn't sound very much and that much energy could easily be produced through concentrated solar. Slight risk of explosion... How efficient do you think it would be, overall?

Well me and my friend added KNO3 and sugar to a tin coffee mix container to see the reaction. So it all went well (smoke shot all around and stuff the can turned red hot. ) but when I got to the can after I noticed it was still smoking a little I noticed that there was a tan-ish colored fluid at the bottom of the can that seemed to be the source of the smoke. Out of curiosity I dropped the dead match And I was surprised to see that it had lit on fire and completely disintegrated in less than 5 seconds. Anything I put in it (Paper cup plastic bottle) was burned and dissolved. It wasn't until I poured cold water in(after which boiled instantly) was i able to dump the liquid into the ground. So my question is what was that stuff?

Alright need some help. im wanting to fill a bunch of test tubes with the fluid from glow sticks for my halloween costume this year. but for some reason after removing the fluid from the glow sticks and putting it in the tubes it does not stay lit for very long at all. im talking anywhere from 3-4 mins to 60 seconds. i have tried breaking the inner container before and after putting it into the test tube, and for some reason mixing the two after seems to have a longer life. moving and shaking the test tubes does cause the mix to glow for less time and im going to be wearing them so i cant have this. does any one have any kind of knowledge if this area? i could really use your help. any ideas on how to fix the life span?

For a high school physics project, I am doing an investigation on how does the density of the transmission fluid affect the efficiency of a fluid coupling. I am planning to use honey based transmission fluid with varying amounts of water to dilute it, and alter and manipulate its density. For the turbines (blades of the fluid coupling) I need to construct a low voltage electric motor with variable speeds using materials easily available in a school laboratory (though I can use some other source for my materials as well). I need to measure its efficiency. and by that I mean to actually compare the input and output energies (perhaps their voltages) using a low inertia dynamo as my output generator.

So i was disassembling a toshiba rear projection for the fresnel lense, and figured i'd pull the rest of it apart and see what parts i could salvage, i got to the gun assembly (i think its called that) and was pulling one of the guns to bits to salvage the lens mount and discovered there was some sort of liquid between the gun and the lenses, it smelt strongly like alcohol and burnt when i held a flame to it long enough, i got some on my hands and my hands started getting a burning sensation so i washed it off and stored it in an icecream container can anyone tell me what the liquid is? why is it inside the tv/projection guns?

Still putting my solar device together and I'm still having some trouble getting the working fluid (ethanol) to boil. Almost there. I was wondering tho if there's not an easier way. Is it possible to by adding heat, make a gas dissolved in a fluid bubble out. Like if you heat up something like pepsi, get all the CO2 to gasify. And, how would you get the gas back in?

This cannot be obtained with cryogenic fluids like liquid nitrogen, as it becomes highly explosive and dangerous. I have a theory: You have your supply of compressed air. You connect that by hose to one branch of a y-connector. The other branch is connected to a hose that goes into some sort of fluid that you want to move from one vessel to another. The trunk of the y is your exhaust (in theory). So now I give, say, 15 psi out of my air supply and that shoud drag my fluid out of its vessel through the y connector to the destination of my choosing. Would that work?

I recently have my power steering fluid emptied unnoticed. I got stuck in the middle of the road, when I re-started the engine, the speedometer didn't work anymore. I got the power steering fluid filled with new ones but it didn't fix the problem (speedometer). Now I only feel I'm the most hazardous driver on the road, driving without knowing what speed I'm going to. I don't know anything about cars, how do I do about it? Please help, I would highly appreciate any advise. thanks

Well i have been searching the web for real tech like the movies. and i've always been a spidey fan unfortunately the web shooters don't exist. because no one knows about the fluid or the shooter i got some idea's for the fluid i think most people believe that there is glue in the mix but i think maybe liquid rubber would work as long as it's still liquid until it squirts out or like some kind of string to shoot out with it to stick to it to make it a solid web .and for a very important part of the shooter a small narrow nozzle i'm not a science wiz so please give me some ideas or comments.

I've got some leftover battery fluid I used to try (unsuccessfully) to resurrect an old motorcycle battery. I was just going to neutralize it with water and baking soda and pour it down the drain, but I thought I'd ask for suggestions. What say you?
