What is with the new E-mail form i get when I want to send something to someone? I can't get it to work with the computer at the library. Why change? It was so easy to use. I'm not happy with what is happening to this site. All the new and improved things take longer and navigating is harder too.

hey guys ive been reading a lot lately about vacuum forming and homemade vacuum forming machines (kudos to everyone who has made one by the way, theyre awesome), because i want to start early on my halloween costume this year and after some research i found vacuum forming would be the best way to make my costume. so my question for you guys: what do i make the molds out of? unfortunately, everywhere ive looked, there hasnt been a real detailed description of how to make the molds for the parts, its usually more along the lines of "now put your molds on the platen and place the heated plastic. . ." without describing how aforementioned molds came into existence. thanks a ton in advance!

Hello Friends, I am looking for someone who is willing to vacuum form (2) antique headlight buckets for a lighting project. I have the bezel I need "copied" and would like it done in 1/4" material. The headlight bezel is approximately 12" tall and 8" wide and is kinda egg shaped. I cannot seem to locate a local business willing to do this, so I am reaching out to the community to do this. I am in Durham, NC. Thank anyone offering their service, Steve Rogers

Hi! I am planning to build a vacuum forming machine that does not use a seperate oven to heat the plastic. For my 3D printing hobby I have come across many heated beds, also some on 230v. Could something like this (https://www.ebay.com/itm/30X30CM-750W-220V-Silicone-Heater-3D-Printer-Heated-Bed-Pad-30cm-Thermistor/401257671771?hash=item5d6cd22c5b:g:iVEAAOSwx6pYrp70) with a heat sink be used for such an application? Thanks!

Exactly what is says in the title. I have twice recently left a comment with a link attached to text, only for the link not to work*. The text goes orange, but nothing happens when you click on it. The comments I left were here and here. So i looked at the Luchador Mask, made from re-cycled shoes and caught myself considering the issue of a steel helmet. It'd be tricky for me to pull it off, of course, but i reckon i could.Same with the lost-wax casting i promised ages ago, and didn't get round to.I DO plan to do both of them some day, and the skittles gun, too....But anyway, who else has mooted instructables to publish, only to skip out at the last moment? Who's got what planned?I appreciate the need of some people to keep things secret, if they've got new and revolutionary projects, by the way, but i'm still asking.

I like to keep track of my data re: all the instructables that I have done, and have all the data viewable in one place....would be interesting to see others, as well, but that may not be a viable function. Privacy issues, etc....Ideally, by clicking on "you", profile, etc., there could be a "statistics form", written in Excel, or such, with all this data and more...Barring this, and it would be a lot of programming work, is there a way you could simply but the total number of views, for all instructables, to date, under "stats" on the "info" sheet that appears next to an instructable that you are viewing? I have included pictures of a form that I put in use to do this very thing. Something similar, perhaps? Thanks. Cman

Instructables is very pleased to announce that we've formed a partnership with IKEA Hacker. Jules, who runs IKEA Hacker, is a new member of the site, and I expect we'll see great things of her and the IKEA Hacker community. This is a great chance for Instructables users to gain even more exposure, and for IKEA Hackers everywhere to show the world how they do things. (IKEA-esque stick figure drawing encouraged, but by no means required.) Every Instructable added to the IKEA Hacks group will be syndicated to IKEA Hacker. Please extend the IKEA Hacker folks a warm welcome to the site.

I'm trying to do a project benefitting a local library in reading children's books and having them recorded onto CD's as audiobooks. Is it legal to record an audiobook yourself? Do I need to obtain the permission of the writers to do this? If you could cite your sources (just a link) that would be great because I have to submit this to the County Board for approval.

I`m making a dac+amp with usb input and headphone out. I`m powering it from USB. The USB controller and the DAC uses 5v and 3.3V, but the opamp(LM4562) uses +-5v. How could I get this differential voltage form the 5V of the USB, even if i get less current. If you can give me a good IC, it would be great, but if you can give me even a schematic (+IC) would be awesome.

I know it has been discussed a few times but I still have problems answering questions in the forum. Right now the post button did not do anything for about about 3 minutes. Of course I pressed it again a few times only to be greated later with a list of back end errors. I do understand that server works, updates and so on can cause delays or other problems to the user but the current state is far from being any good to a user outside the US. There is no way of knowing when server works are happening and a simple "backend error" does not cover it. Either block posting during server works completely and show a corresponding message like done in most other forums or at least give the user a meaningful error message in a good time so he knows what is going on. It is not nice to constantly delete double postings or see backend errors for no good reason. Same for posting a new topic: nothing happens for ages and finally you see a useless error or just a blank white page. Please fix it one way or the other as I doubt I'm alone with the problem. Thanks!

Hello! :) I am hoping someone can help me. I carve faux claws, fangs, and bone rings. There are times I wish I could soften the bone, as when carving a claw from a rib bone, It would be nicer if I could remove the marrow , soften the bone and bring the 2 curved ends together, or when making rings using sections cut from a thigh bone, I end up with piece's that are odd shaped and too thin walled to carve out room for a finger. If I could find a way to soften the bone i could squeeze the bone some to get a usable round shape ,(after bracing and letting dry.), and I would have more usable maternal I remember when I was growing up, we were up in the villages and a VISTA volunteer came for the summer. He had in his room a bone in a bottle, not soft, but hard , no cuts in the bottle . Us kids tried to figure out how he got it in there as the bone was a little bigger than the opening. Before he left he finally told us he had soaked the bone so it was pliable and able to fit through the smaller opening, once inside it went back to it's shape and dried hard again. For the life of me I can't remember what it was he soaked it in. If anyone knows, or has a idea , it would be greatly appreciated if you would let me know. Have a great day, or night ( I know I spend hours here when I can't sleep and am "Night owling". lol ). I love this place!! :) :) Leo4613 :)

Alright, this is going to play a major role in the making of my Halloween costume this year, which will be documented and an iBle will be made. And after thinking it over, I've decided to just go ahead an tell you what it is of, to ward off confusion. I will attempt to make the Instructables Robot! So, for my costume, I need to make a head, body, and wrap around pieces for the arms and legs. Here's what I plan to use: Head: Just a box, I'll paint the eyes and mouth on. A ball for the "ears", coat hanger for the antennae. Body: This is where I'm stuck at. I don't know how to make a body that will fit me and is the right shape. I've PMed a member, and he thought that I should form newspaper in a bathtub, and make it fairly thick. This sounds like a great idea, but I don't know if I could make it look like Robot. Then I thought of forming the paper over formed chicken wire, but I don't know if the wire would hold its shape. Any suggestions? Arms and legs: Haven't really paid much attention to these, but I would probably just form some newspaper. I'd paint and detail it all. I'd probably hook a bicycle helmet into the head, to secure it. I'd run some rope or cord to secure the body. I'd wear skates, but my neighborhood isn't one for skating, in the dark. Anyway, I'm the worst skater. I really appreciate your help!

I'm interested in making an outdoor solar chandelier and I'm trying to find out how to make it? I want to make it out of wire. As I look through ebay and search here I can't find any info on how to make a jig or even any info on buying a jig (other than jewelry and fishing lures). Could someone point me in the right direction as far as making my own jig or a photo of a jig maybe you made? What kind of wire to buy for the rustic look? Things like that. Thanks.

I would like to host a personal weapons contest at some point in the future. Will i be able to post information about the contest as an instructable or will i have to have it a a comment on the contests page?
Question by DIYWEAPONS | last reply
Hi, I have already contacted instructables about these issues last week and they are trying to fix them however I am hoping in the mean time some past contest winners and other members could help me with my issues with signing the document 'Winners declaration and release' sent to me by email using DocuSign after I recently won a contest. The first problem that I am having is that the document requires two separate different signatures, mine (the winner) and my parent/guardian's (required because I am under 18 years old) however the DocuSign interface will only let me sign the same signature in both locations however this is not what is requested by the form, I am not even sure if it is even possible to sign two separate different signatures on the same form using the DocuSign interface. The second issue is that my SSN number is requested on the form but as I'm not from America so I do not have an SSN number, fortunately in the email that I got with the link to sign this form I was told that 'if international, enter all 0 for SSN' so I attempted this but this SSN (000-00-0000) was 'invalid' and would not be accepted by DocuSign, after experimenting I discovered that the each 'segment' of the SSN must have a value greater than 0 for it to be valid and accepted by DocuSign meaning that the SSN 001-01-0001 was accepted but as I am international I have to 'enter all 0 for SSN' but as I've just demonstrated this is 'invalid' so I cannot complete this form for this reason as well. If anyone else could assist on these issues I will be very grateful, thanks, Alex Maund EDIT: after receiving a third reminder to sign the form by autodesk, I have got impatient and submitted the form with the same signature (my parent's) in both places as this is the only option that I can do and there have been no visible signs of progress with the fixing of the mentioned issues in over a week so I hope that the form I have submitted is OK and valid as this is the best I can do. I managed to get the SSN 000-00-0000 accepted when I opened the document used my iPad and the IOS version of DocuSign's website.

I tried making my own board using eagle, and diptrace but I am running into alot of issues making it so compact. I was wondering if anyone has already made a board and have to eagle files, or know of any eagle files that I can have so I can etch my own board. Any help would be great! Thanks!

I've been working on my understanding of electricity. So I am a little ignorant on the subject. From what I've read, there are 3 fundamental ways energy is consumed in a circuit: resistance (R), capacitance (C), and inductance (L). But that's just the terminology, right? Energy is never consumed, it's transformed. So resistance primarily creates heat. Inductance primarily creates magnetism or a magnetic field. Capacitance??? Capacitance transforms electrical energy into what other form of energy?

I see woven or braided fiberglass (in tube, rope, sheet, band) for use as 1) a seal where the seal is going to be exposed to high temperature (eg: stove door gasket); 2) for use as a thermal guard (eg: tubing around electrical wire); 3) and then used for it's' strength in resin impregnated sheet (egs: roof sheeting; mould making; boat building). My question is whether there's any difference between the fiberglass fabrics available for thermal and resinous uses? Are they interchangable? Fiberglass is fiberglass no?

So i wrote an i'ble, clicked publish, enter keyword, select category ("Audio" under "Technology"). leave anything else in their default state and click "Yes, publish my instructable!" button. the error pops up, stating "Please select a category before publishing!" and I thought "wait, i selected one!" so i refreshed the page, repeated the process again, and get the same error. I tried a few more times, but all I got is the same error. Note: i'm using chrome 9.0.597.98 and i'm in thailand so my english wasn't that good.
