I also tried installing Abiword(.exe) but it didn't open it correctly (kept trying to open it in text edit). Any help? OK, I just downloaded Blender, from blender.orgI started it up, and a Windows98 styled window showed up. So far so good. Well, the thing is, the window said something, but when I closed it, the whole program closed it.What worried me was that it said: (From what I can remember)Not all (something) could be installed and that some scripts might not run. Continue Happily!Any idea of what might have happened? Is that normal? Do I need something? Will I have trouble animating?

Does anyone know of any good, freeware, video splitters? I have some home videos that I converted to digital format (MPEG), but they are a good 2-3 hours long, per film. Hey again- while working on itunes and ripping our DVD library to ipods (using handbrake), i had the entire library created with the screen size for a 5g ipod nano. I recently got an Ipod touch 4g with retina display- so I have been re-ripping the library for the larger screen. Now i have copies of High and low quality videos (because some in our family still use nanos), so is there a setting for videos that looks good on retina displays, but can be played on a nano too? so that i could only use one copy at a time (having 2 copies is increasing my library size a lot more than i would like) I am on a mac- use handbrake for DVD ripping but would be fine using other freeware :) -Astroboy907

Hi, I'v been making a frame laps video of a book binding instructable, all except the last segment are fine. during recording the last segment the recorder (frame laps pro app on Samsung s3mini) ran out of space on the memory card. Iv tried downloading various pieces of freeware and trials that claim to be capable of fixing such videos, none of them worked for me. If anyone out there has got some working software that could recover what video is there, i would be most grateful. iv attached the video file to the question. if anybody could process it and upload it as a winning answer that would be awesome. Then i would be able to complete the you-tube edit ,write up some concise steps publish the instructable with a video of it all happening at the end. I'd like the instructable to be as complete as possible to make the blisters worth it. thank you for reading this , yours sincerely George.

Cadsoft is a German company that is a veritable mecca of software distribution enlightenment. In addition to the reasonably-priced professional PCB design packages ($1200), they have freeware, lite, non-profit, and other intermediate licenses. Their software runs under windows, linux, and MacOSX. It's slightly quirky, with a steep (but not too high) learning curve on the front end, but from most reports it is not any more so than other professional CAD packages. They have online support forums that are active from both the company and other users, the package is under current development and gets better with each release. A number of PCB fabricators will accept their CAD files directly. It's good stuff.Use it. Propagate it. Buy it when you "go pro."There are several EAGLE related instructables now:Schematic EntryCreate PCB from SchematicMaking PCBs for HobbyistsCreating Library PartsIn theory, this forum is a place for all the little questions that don't rate an instructable on their own, or a gathering place for info destined to future instructables, and stuff like that.

Hi guys. I've been making some very simple mechanisms for a steampunk Instructables series I've got planned, and have been prototyping using cardboard and paper. This has actually worked really well, but I'm a fan of the digital realm, too, and was wondering if anyone could recommend some simple, cheap (ideally freeware) digital prototyping software to help me eliminate (or minimize) the paper and card phase? As I say, the mechanics are very simple. Cams, pulleys, levers, gears -- nothing more complex than bell cranks, linkages and basic drives. I think a scotch yoke is about as adventurous as it's got so far. So I'm looking for some nice simple software that'll allow me to build and test the mechanisms digitally, if such a thing exists. I've looked at the likes of Autodesk and Blender, but they seem like a sledgehammer to cure a headache. Even something that runs online in a browser, or an iPhone/iPad app would be good (I've played some physics-based games on the iPad that would almost be ideal if they weren't puzzle games!). Any advice? Cheers guys!

A couple days ago I was walking around my house with my laptop in hand, catching up on some American financial news via Russia Today. Needless to say I made it to the kitchen without any mishaps and brought everything into the dining room. As I was eating breakfast, I was staring out the window at my bird feeder, with the news going, when the idea hit me. I'd seen other instructibles on digital picture frames which use computers and essentially integrate them in the house in a unobtrusive manner. Why should I have to walk around with my laptop when, theoretically, I could have a network of computer stepping stones integrated throughout my house. Is it possible to program a thin network where all the clients mirror one laptop? Is is also possible to use Johnny Lee's infrared fingers to turn on/ control a digital picture frame thin client in places where you don't want to use a touch screen? ie. the kitchen, workshop, or even in a hospital?... Could all this be done economically by re-purposing used school/uni computers, and freeware like Linux and Ubuntu and Cloud One?

The day before yesterday, my external hard drive was dropped to the ground for a sudden shock. When trying to access it again on the computer, the windows just gave me a not formatted error and disabled my access without formatting, so, without deeper consideration, I formatted this drive and finally found all the files and folders were gone. What a stupid operation. In order to access my files and folders of the past two years, I began to crazily search for related articles and questions to see whether there was a way for me to get them back with success. Follows some recommended steps and data recovery programs, like: Firstly, stop using this formatted drive till rescuing everything back. Secondly, attack drive to computer and use data recovery software to scan this drive and rescue original stuffs back as many as possible. Thirdly, save all restored stuffs on another different drives or storage device at last. Fortunately, after trying these steps, I got most of my needed drive files and folders back with success. If you are also experiencing such data loss problems, you also can get some clues with my found articles, like: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Data_recovery http://freeware-fix.blogspot.com/2013/02/external-hard-disk-format-recovery.html Or http://www.ucfix.com/data-recovery/data-recovery-after-format-external-drive-hdd.html Hope my words also can help someone there!

I had asked 2 questions about my 6 weeks during computer problem:' is Windows 7 That Bad??', and 'help'... Windows XP seemed to get slow and somewhat erratic, so instead of re-installing XP, I installed the 64b version of W7 ultimate, downloaded as 'freeware'. It was a chore to install, and much of my hardware was not recognized (no network port (= internet), only generic CD ROM instead of DVDRW, etc.). Problems shutting down, and SLOOOOWWW. So after a while, I re-installed my trusted XP, but things did not get better (at all!). This was not normal! Since my HDDs came on and off, I figured it ought to be the motherboard. It always (2 1/2 years) worked fine, but after some internet search (I also do have a laptop), it seemed to be one of the worst MBs ever made... But a spare laptop HDD got fried instantly (motor+ is dead)... So I ordered a new one: A nice old fat Asrock, with 4 memory slots, and 7.1 sound. It lasted 4 hours... No more picture, not by the board, not by the added card... By warranty, the MB might have been bad, so I got the replacement. But I did not trust my TRUST power supply anymore. So I bought a new 500 GB HDD and new (Cooler master 460 W power supply). Everything was wired up, Windows 7 installed, and it runs great!!! The laptop disk is dead, but my old system disk is most often recognized... There was still a lot of important, non backed up data on it (!). I was able to secure all of it!!! So my conclusion is: it probably was the power supply: don't trust TRUST!!!

You might have read about great skin scremes that fix all you skin problems. Maybe even of programs that fix your broken Office 1800 files. And if you are really lucky you even noticed PFD converters that convert even your old shoes to PDF documents. But I was wondering what comes next? Do we see the egg laying, woolen pig? A creme that actually makes you younger (and if used too often reduce you to an infant)? I don't know..... As you can see in my profile I am an active spam fighter, so I took a few minutes to write this little joke - I hope you are still reading this crap as a real spammer would love it! If I see spam I falg it and move on, but this time I wanted more, more fun, more replies, more everything. Judging by the websites some spammers use they even post links to freeware and open source projects, which of course makes me wonder what drives those people. Some of the open source spam I actually checked and I doubt the authors know about anyone spamming their links in forums and on sites like ours. Office 2003 file Recovery PST data recovery, PST Repair, Build up muskles fast, Skin care professional, How to look younger These are examples we see every day and all have the same things in common: bad langues skills, no foramtting, plain links and a lot of crap noone would even bother to read, let alone actually click on the links. So why do they do it? What is your favorite spam you found so far? Please no link, just a short summary! What do you think about this form of spam? How might such a spammer look like and how does he do his daily routine? Write something funny, give us your opinion or just make fun of these spammers. And forgive the bad formatting, I could not resist to copy the worst these spammers throw at us. Just noticed the links this way don't actually work in the forum but I leave them this way so it looks like real spam lol

My hard drive on my Pc laptop crashed when I tryed to boot it back up it would say that there was something wrong with Windows. I tryed everything and was not able to do nothing to fix it. I got an usb adapter for the hd, pluged it in my other computer opened computer management/storage/disk management the hd is reading online,it shows all 3 partitions reading healthy with the primary partition reading raw instead of NTFS. Is there a way to get it back to NTSF without loosing data when formating it. Or is there a free software (freeware) to recover and backup my files so I can restore the hard drive and get it to bootup on my laptop again? Can anyone please help? Thanks Update: So far I got the files from the RAW Drive saved (with Recuva). Now I'm trying to figure out how to get the RAW partition back to NTFS format. I can't format it since the laptop didn't come with any backup disks for any of the softwares that was loaded into the laptop! TestDisk doesn't find anything wrong with the hard drive. The boot sectors seems ok with TestDisk. Scans say All 3 partitions seems to be fine with no corrupt files. Another thing I want to add. When I plug this hard drive to my other computer via usb sata adapter and then restart the computer it doesn't let it boot up just like when the hard drive is in the original laptop(internal). All it does is when it reboots you see the scrolling green bar on the other computer then the screen stays the same after the scrolling bar disappears and never boots up. If I restart the computer again it asks If I want to repair it when it's the hard drive thats connected to the usb that didn't let it boot. The computer does boot right up when I disconnect the hard drive from the computer again. BTW the hard drive that is reading RAW has Windows7 OS. Anyone ever had this problem before?

Added 5/26/07: Please read the comments below to see how the project is evolving. Design specs, goals, etc, have been modified after discussion.Hi Folks,For several years I've been wanting to build a kite powered proa. A proa is a kind of boat with a narrow hull and a smaller outrigger. These Instructables are about building a proa with a traditional sail:https://www.instructables.com/id/ERIIBDCCOTEPUCHZ1K/?ALLSTEPShttps://www.instructables.com/id/EZN8M3OCWZEV2Z7IR5/?ALLSTEPSThese are kite-powered proa-like vehicles for land and ice:https://www.instructables.com/id/EPKZ5O80HQEQZJI20F/?ALLSTEPShttps://www.instructables.com/id/EPWWSYZNWIEV2ZKLCH/?ALLSTEPSGoals for the project:1. Make at least one good boat.2. Publish a good Instructable.3. Work with interesting people.I am definitely going ahead with #1 & #2. #3... anyone interested? The Boat: Generally it should be appealing/attainable by as wide a range of budgets and circumstances and skill levels as possible.a. It should be fun to mess around with starting in about 6 or 7 mph of wind (3 m/s).b. A beach boat, not an overnighter. Should be able to carry one or two people, a paddle, personal flotation device and maybe a sandwich and a water bottle.c. Storable in a typical apartment (maybe even a dorm room?). I'm thinking a 2-part bolt-together hull like Wade Tarzia's above. Two halves, each under 8 feet long so they can be stored on end, maybe used as bookshelves as suggested by TimAnderson. What is a typical ceiling height? Mine is about 91"d. Possible to build on a restricted budget ($200? is that possible? $400?). I'm budgeting about $500 but as a cheapskate packrat scrounger type I am hoping not to spend it all. Should also avoid necessitating rare and expensive tools.e. It should be possible to make a "good looking" version if the builder chooses.... sort of financially and chronologically(?) scalable. Someone might want to build something as quickly and cheaply as possible, and another person might want to spend all summer working on the fine details and finish. The boat should be worth building in either case.f. Should be able to take a passenger (is that possible if we rely on weight-shifting for steering?), but be sailable single-handed.g. Possibly be adaptable to a traditional sail? Would this be hard? This is something I don't need for myself, but I bet someone will ask that question as soon as we publish it. If someone doesn't already have a kite, is it easier to build a kite, or a sail and associated mods to the boat?h. Probably plywood stitch-and-glue construction main hull, but maybe carved from a couple of Styrofoam billets with a plywood stringer and/or deck? Leaning towards all plywood. If we fiberglass the whole boat can we use 1/4" interior luaun at $9 per 4x8 sheet? Is that more practical and cost effective than something like occume at $60 per sheet with glass on just the keel and joints? We'd need 3 sheets. Need to do some calculations on this.i. Usable in flat water, chop and small waves (and bigger waves?). Mine will be used mostly at an ocean beach.j. Steerable by weight-shifting, i.e. moving towards the front or back of the boat. No rudders or daggerboards. Maybe paddle-assisted steering when carrying a passenger/helmsman?The Instructable:a. Should be a good read, even for folks who won't undertake the project. b. Doubles as an Instructable on how to collaborate to make a great project and a great Instructable.c. Represents everyone involved in the project in some way.d. Gives the potential builder a rough "how to sail it" as well?e. Presents the reader with several options for materials and/or construction.f. All the regular "what makes a good Instructable" things. The Interesting People:a. Everyone is interesting in some way or another, right?b. Some people like to do research on the web.c. Some people have built boats.d. Some people some know about wood, or glue, or paint, or kites, or sails, or writing, or... e. Maybe someone will build the boat concurrently so we'll have pictures of two or more versions at various stages when we publish the Instructable.Let me be the first to sign up :) I have been using kites to get around fields, beaches, frozen lakes and the ocean for 10+ years. I make my own kite boards and have made my own kites (I use commercial kites now but still love my homemade plywood boards). I've done a fair amount of web research on proas and plywood boats (and some on tarp boats, canvas covered canoes, surfboards, etc.) but I have never built a boat. I experimented with a busted up, rudderless old hobie 14 for a while, but my homemade foot-steerable rudders broke almost instantly, and shortly after that I had to abandon the boat because I moved to a place where it couldn't be stored. It was enough to get me interested. I'm pretty confident I could build a usable boat as a solo project but I want to see how much better it could be as a collaboration, or at least having a few folks commenting on my ideas.I have a small assortment of cheap power tools. I've used epoxy and fiberglass a few times and I have some on hand.I have permission from my lovely bride-to-be to use part of the kitchen, part of the time, as my workshop (that's true love). I also have a small are outside where I can work but I can't leave anything there. The pictures are my initial hull ideas. For each hull one pic shows the hull from 3 angles and the other shows how the side pieces would fit on two sheets of plywood. A third sheet would be needed for the deck and a fourth (of thicker stuff, I would guess?) for the frames, bulkheads, etc. I'll attach the files for the hulls too. You can get the freeware to view and edit them at www.carlsondesign.com.The simple V hull would mean less cutting and joining. The other one looks better (in my opinion) and can float more weight with the same amount of plywood.Could instead go with a flat bottom like Wade's.Let me know what you think. Thanks!
