Friday Forum: Ask an Editor (Contest Edition)

Hey everybody! On Friday, May 30th from 1-4 PST, I'll be answering your contest questions! (Though feel free to keep asking me after. I'm always around. :D ) Here's a link to our current contest FAQ (frequently asked questions). You guys might know me, but just in case: I'm Jessy, and I'm the contest manager here at Instructables. I've been officially working for Instructables for a few years now, but before that I posted instructables obsessively, spent all my time on the site and entered a TON of contests here between 2006-2011. :D I'll have support from Carleyy (she's responsible for nearly all of the fancy sponsors we get!) and audreyobscura (she works with the sales team at Autodesk and huge sponsors like Home Depot and Radioshack) on this Friday Forum too, so if you post a question I'm not 100% sure about, we'll see if they know! YAY! Excited to talk to you guys soon. P.S. You can also ask me not-contest-things if you want, too. Especially if it's about my cats. ASK ME ABOUT ME CATS!!1

Feel free to swing by this forum on Friday afternoon and ask me questions + submit ideas for new programs. CHEERS!!!!!!!!!!

Friday Forum: Ask an Editor (pre-Maker Faire edition)

Hi guys. My name is Wade, and I run the editorial team at Instructables. I'll be answering community questions posed on this thread on Friday, May 16th from 1-4PM PST. All questions asked and answered for today. Feel free to ask more questions, though, and we'll probably run another one of these in a week or two. If you've been curious about the site, here's a chance to get the inside scoop on what actually goes on at Instructables. how to get featured how we choose featured authors the best time to enter a contest how much meat do Eric and Christy actually consume? how we decide what prizes to give away ...and whatever else you're curious about Thanks to everyone who participated. Especially Ben, whose interrogative greed was beneficial for everyone who lurked without posing a question. For the next Friday Forum on May 30th: https://www.instructables.com/community/Friday-Forum-Ask-an-Editor-Contest-Edition/

Zombie Robot Caption Contest

In case you have not heard the breaking news, our beloved Instructables Robot and its beloved family member Instructables-Robot have been captured by a dancing zombie horde. Perhaps you can look at this picture and figure out what our poor robot is saying. Post the caption as a comment in this forum. All are eligible to enter. Contestants are limited to three (and we mean three!) entries. The winner of this contest gets a copy of Electronic Gadgets for the Evil Genius. Watch engineers build a Mars rover!

This is super-cool. NASA's JPL has set up live streaming video from inside the clean room where they're building the Curiosity rover, formerly known as the Mars Science Laboratory. Work is from 8am-11pm PDT Monday through Friday. I found this on Saturday morning and I've been waiting all weekend for those slacker engineers to get to work so this would be worth posting. Some comparison: The old Sojourner rover from 1997 was the size of a largeish R/C car. The Mars Exploration Rovers from 2004 that are still running (!) are the size of golf carts. This thing's the size of a Mini Cooper, and has a proportionally larger load of sciencey stuff packed on. Instructables doesn't allow you to embed Ustream into Forum topics, so you'll have to go to Ustream to watch: http://www.ustream.tv/nasajpl Via Bad Astronomy Blog, image from MSL website

Page redirecting problem?

Hey, I'm wondering if anyone else is having this problem. I use Firefox 3.6.16 at work, and since last Friday have been getting this message on the main index page: The page isn't redirecting properly Firefox has detected that the server is redirecting the request for this address in a way that will never complete. * This problem can sometimes be caused by disabling or refusing to accept cookies. I have all cookies enabled. I've disabled them, refreshed, logged out, rebooted, and reeneabled in so many combination's that my head now hurts and my computer is dizzy. I had another tab open to an 'ible, and am able to browse through various forums that way (thus I'm able to post this), but whenever I go to the main index page I get this error. I tried using Internet Explorer (shudder), but it just gives the ever-helpful "can't connect" standard IE error message. I haven't tried using FF4 yet (I have that running at home).

Instructables Halloween Postcards

Some people send Christmas greeting cards. Since Halloween is our favorite holiday, we decided to send Halloween greeting cards. About 1100 of them. Check out the pictures of signing, stuffing, applying postage, and mailing them. We sent them to top authors by number of Instructables, by pageviews, top commentors, people who have previously won contests, and others. Since we did all this by hand (and had a couple of snafus along the way!), if you didn't get one, that doesn't mean you're not awesome; it means we screwed up and forgot to ask for your address. But, we'd still like to send you one! So, if you'd like a Halloween card, and you haven't already entered your address, leave a comment here by Friday October 23 and I'll send you the link to submit your information. If you have entered your address but haven't received your card, it's probably still on its way. Happy Halloween! This is the forum topic for Halloween 2009. If you'd like a card for 2010, please see here: 2010 Halloween Postcards.

Seeing Auras & Ghosts

I have posted this on other forums without much response. Since some of the best minds use this site, I should get a lively response. Friday, on a TV show called 20/20, they interview some kids that said they see auras and spirits. Do any of you know people who can do that? I have tried to see or photograph auras without success. It seems that these things may be visible either in the ultraviolet or far infrared and require someone with eyes that are more sensitive to these wavelengths. Young kids would be better at that. Infrared and ultraviolet light (UV) are in our environment, even though we can't see it. You would expect that different people would look different under UV, just as they do under visible light. Additionally, some things show fluorescence under UV. Perhaps auras are differing fluorescence by individuals as seen by those with extended visual response. It might be interesting to look at various people under just UV or just infrared (perhaps using night goggles) and note the observations. It would be interesting to have someone view auras through various filters to see how the auras change. Are auras affected by magnetic fields? Would smoke in the air have an effect? Does the aura look better with a dark background? Does getting drunk help? Ghosts are probably more difficult. It is to be expected that God doesn't want us asking them sensitive questions (like "Where's Heaven?"). ~Bob~

Total Views Count - Update

Tomorrow will be the first time I've posted stats from my Total Views Count script since January. I had some problems with the script breaking and losing the data, then was very busy throughout February/March since I was at Instructables HQ as an Artist in Residence, then when I got home to the UK I didn't have the motivation to fix it. Well, I've now started work on it again and last Friday I ran it for the first time since January. Tomorrow I'll be running it again and will have a gain value for each group member to share with everyone. It's still not completely finished, below is a description of how it worked before, how I've changed it and what I'm going to change further. Skip to the last bit if you want to read what the group's going to change into. Where it was: I used to run the group once per week by opening a Perl script on my desktop computer. The script automatically visited each of your profiles and added the total views count to a new column in a spreadsheet. Instructables updated some code, my script got confused, didn't update the spreadsheet properly and so all the data went screwy. I had to then post a forum topic and hand out patches, it took a long time. Where it is now: I've rewritten the Perl script, it now saves the data to a MySQL database instead of a spreadsheet. It also gathers far more data: total views, number of instructables, comments total, best answers total, number of forum topics, number of subscribers. I have a web page that looks up the total views from that database and displays a list I can copy to a forum topic. I still have to run it manually like before but it's much less hassle. Where it's going: I have spent a few hours working on learning to get Perl scripts working on my personal website. I can now automatically run them once per day, which I didn't know how to do. I now need to: 1) Check that the total views script will run daily 2) Write functionality to patch automatically 3) Design more patches! Once I have total views patches sending automatically I would like to award people for the following: Total Views: 10k, 25k, 50k, 100k, 250k, 500k, 1m Subscribers: 10, 25, 50, 100, 250, 500, 1000 Answers: 10, 25, 50, 100, 250, 500, 1000 Best Answers: 1, 5, 10, 25, 50, 100, 200, 300, 400, 500 Instructables: 1, 5, 10, 25, 50, 75, 100, 200 Comments: 50, 100, 250, 500, 1000, 2000, 3000 Subscriptions: The newest site update now lets me see how many people YOU'VE subscribed to. The more you subscribe to. You'll earn patches for more subscriptions. If you're arty and want to help out with this bit, please volunteer, it'll save me some time and they'll look prettier. The cartoons Caitlinsdad did for the total views patches were fantastic, but last time I asked he was too busy to design more. 4) Implement automatic sending out of all of the types of patches 5) Change the name of the group to reflect that it no longer really is just to show a list of total views. That's been surpassed when HQ added the baseball cards to profiles. Got a suggestion? Once done, the weekly forum topic that I post will become a pretty list of who's been awarded what patches. Let me know in the comments if you've got feature ideas you'd like to see implemented or want to help out. This group's been going 2 years now! Thanks! James

Serious Notice guys n gals concerning me.......

Hey, just wanted to let you all know (so, maybe I put this in the wrong forum) that I am up this early in the morning ( 6:30 am ) because I have to go to the hospital for a complete cardiac / pulmonary workup and battery of tests. Yeah, getting older stinks, especially if you let you physically self atrophy. Anyway, just wanted you all to know, in case you don't see me for a few days or longer (the tests only last about 4 hours or so, but they could potentially bring on cardiac arrest, or trigger a severe asthma attack, depending on the kind of shape I am in ( it is kind of a pregnant pear shape actually ). See you all when I am back from the hospital....Addendum: I have a lowered amount of blood flow to my heart. What this means is that I am a borderline heart attack candidate if it gets any worse. Cholesterol was a little high, triglycerides way high. I will find out details on Friday I suppose when we discuss options...Addendum 2: The pulmonary tests ( 05/21/2008 ) were horrible, but there doesn't seem to be anything overly wrong that is obvious to the tech, with my lungs.....will have to wait for the doc's report thoughAddendum 3: Well, I am afraid things have progressed to the next step... I have to have a heart cauterization to see what may be blocking the lower artery, and how bad the blockage is. If not too bad, they will simply do a quick angioplasty and open it up, but if bad, I will then be scheduled for a bypass. *sigh* as we age the fun just never ends, eh ? Addendum 4: It will not be THIS coming week, but most likely next week, they will do the double bypass. Because of the location of the blockage at a major branch which would end up cutting off flow to the other artery, they have decided I best have the bypass done. PS: there was hardly ANY pain in the cath procedure.....I am going to give the person that told me that a hard time next time I see them :-) But I have experienced broken bones already, so I know the next step is not going go be a picnic. Addendum 5:I may be able to get the bypass done as early as Monday the 9th Yay ! Addendum 6:I am now into my second week of recovery, and things are progressing so well, my wife is afraid I will want to go back to work early and she will be alone again.

Instructables Podcast

ShadyLogic and I have chatted for a couple of years about doing some sort of podcast, but we could never nail down exactly what we wanted to do. We've finally managed to come up with an idea that excites both of us, and more importantly isn't a podcast we've ever heard someone else do. In addition to this, Instructables is sadly without any sort of official podcast and we'd like to remedy that. With all of this in mind, we thought a podcast all about brainstorming projects would be fun! Instructables is all about the projects and the people behind those projects. Now while the projects on this site are amazing, We've met a lot of people throughout the years who didn't think they had a good enough idea for an instructable, were unable to push through a builders block (is there a phrase for that, a writers block for makers?), or just had the very basics to an idea that they needed to flesh out with someone. We want to be there for you, and bring those ideas out. Our hope is that this will not only introduce some people to our brainstorming process, but will inform people to different methods and techniques for creating things. We know there is an Answers section on the website, but the intention of that is for questions that have answers to them. The questions we plan on tackling here don't necessarily have a right answer, and if they did, we probably wouldn't find it. Wilgubeast was nice enough to present us with a question to practice on, and you can listen to that below and see what you think. This is something Jake and I are planning on doing every week, but we'll need your support to continue. What we need: Questions, problems, musings, goals, etc. Anything you'd like to share that you wouldn't mind us talking about in a very public space. We'd like to tackle different issues people might have and see what sense we can make out of them. It can be a project that you're working on, such as how to attach two things together or something you'd only just started thinking about making and want to hear some tactics for moving forward. We'll pick a few questions every week and do our best to hash out any issues that we run into while discussing them. You can post any questions or quandaries in this forum topic for next weeks recording. We hope you like the idea, as we're very excited to present it to you. Attached you'll find the pilot question for the Instructables Podcast: How Do I? ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Update 1: Well, unfortunately it looks like we spoke to soon. Jake and I really wanted to do this, but it looks like our schedules just won't allow us the time. Between living in different countries, graduate school and full time work, we just weren't able to to line up our schedules. We were hoping we squared this away with our practice rounds, but it seems we weren't quite thorough enough. Neither of us wants to try to do something like this if we can't stick to any kind of schedule, so we thought it would be better to nix it now before it progressed too far. We apologize if we got anyone's hopes up. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Update 2: And now it appears I've lied to you. Jake and I put our heads together, remapped out our schedules and we found that we should be able to manage to do this so long as we put the podcast out on Fridays. I hope this works for everyone! Thank you for bearing with us as we figured this out!

Contest FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)

Here at Instructables we run a ton of contests! We also get asked a ton of questions about those contests. Below is a list of the contest questions we get asked most frequently and also some questions that we feel could use a little more explaining. (Let’s be honest - reading the official rules is not fun.)Please ask addition questions in this forum topic - I'm sure there are some we have not covered!Important links: List of upcoming contestsContest suggestionsPrize suggestions General Contest Questions How do you choose which contests to run?We do this in a few different ways.Contests are planned based on past contest themes, what’s trending in search, which categories/channels need a little love, new site features or if there’s a certain type of content we want. Contest ideas also come from staff meetings and through the official contest idea forum topic.I have an idea for a contest! How do I tell you guys? Please post here and let us know! We can’t run all of them, but we love seeing the ideas you guys come up with. How do I win a contest?Post something awesome! Check out this collection of tutorials that will tell you how to write a great instructable. Why do Instructables employees enter the contests? We enter contests to set the bar and give an example of the type of entries we want in the contests. We're not able to win them, though! It's important to note that several employees were authors on the site before they worked here, though, so you might see some wins in our achievements! :) Entering Contests Can I enter if my country is not listed in the official rules?Yes! You can definitely enter. However, you must have a mailing address in an eligible country to win. If you have a friend in the US or another eligible country that can receive your prize, go ahead and enter! You can read more about our progress to add more countries to the eligible shipping locations here. I live in -----, why can't I enter?!Chances are your country has incredibly strict laws regarding gambling, sweepstakes and contests. We try our best to play by the rules, and if we can't meet the minimum requirements to run a contest in your country, we don't run them there! That's the easy answer. The hard answer is that it's very complicated and involves lots of risk and scary legal language. Why isn't my entry showing up in the contest? I entered three minutes ago!Real humans look at each entry! This means it take take a while sometimes. We work standard office hours, 9-5ish PST. We tend to moderate first thing in the morning, Monday-Friday.If you enter at the end of the work day or over the weekend, you may have to wait until the next business day to be accepted. Why can I only enter one contest with one Instructable? It’s all the spirit of fairness. In the past, we've had popular instructables sweep multiple contests with huge wins. This new rule will allow more authors to win! Why was I rejected from the contest? The number one reason for this is not fitting the contest theme - we try our best to explain the sorts of entries we’re looking for on the main page of each contest, so double check your eligibility there. We also sometimes make mistakes or encounter bugs during the approval/denial process. (Checking the wrong box, clicking the wrong button, breaking the back end of the site) It’s rare, but it happens! We’re human and can’t help it, but we do our best to right those mistakes as soon as we know they happened! Why can’t I enter an instructable I published before the start date into the contest? We want to see NEW and exciting content built just for the contest. If we allowed old instructables in, we’d just see the same things over and over again. Plus, the number entries in the contests would make it very hard to choose finalists and winners.Keep in mind that simply republishing an old project will not make it eligible - we check for that. ;) Can I edit my Instructable after it's entered in a contest?Short answer: YES!Long answer: You can make any modifications you want to an Instructable that's already entered! We get so many entries that there's absolutely no way we'd be able to police it even if we wanted to - but it's never something we want to discourage.Improvement is always a good thing as far as I'm concerned. :)However, we must caution you: it's best to get those changes done before voting closes. The voting period matters the most because that's the time that we start looking into picking finalists.Another slightly related caveat: don't publish a mostly empty instructable and try to fill it after the contest ends. We're starting to see this happen more often, always with a promise that updates are coming. You can never tell when we'll be reviewing it as a possible finalist, so chances are you'll get overlooked going about it that way. We are currently looking at 50-300 entries per contest, so anything incomplete doesn't stand a chance these days! Finalist & Winner Selection When are the finalists selected?Finalists are selected starting the Tuesday after the contest closes. The finalist selection process normally ends Thursday of the same week, depending on how tricky the contest is and how many people give input. How are finalists selected?Finalists are selected by site staff based on the following criteria: clarity, ingenuity, creativity, quality of presentation, and execution of the Instructable (as noted in each contests' official rules section). You can make your instructable stand out further by including the following: Good photos! Pretty photos put you five steps ahead of all the other entries already, honestly. We're going to want to click through and look at it as soon as we see it if it's pretty! Good explanation of both WHAT the project is and HOW you made it. Sometimes it can be really hard to figure out what we're looking at. (Personally, if I have to spend several minutes staring at photos and reading to understand it, I'm not very excited about it anymore.) Try to convey the project through both photos and video if it's needed. For example - if it's a rocket, upload a video of it in action! A good story! I read more projects than you could ever imagine every month. I love it when an author takes time to explain why they made the project, or documents the errors they made along the way. That makes an instructable so much more enjoyable to read. :) Citing your sources/inspirations - look, we realize there's hardly an original idea on the internets anymore, so we can't fault you for that. But it's only fair to give credit where credit is due. We like that. Plus, it sometimes makes for an awesome story. Creativity! Look, I cannot even begin to tell you how many paracord bracelets, Altoid tin survival kits and Iron Man arc reactors I have looked at. My eyes glaze at the thought. Don't just go for the common and easy, take that project and put a new spin on it!!Relation to prize. In some contests, we offer a Judges Prize. Entries that qualify for this prize are also taken into consideration. We always suggest authors read their own work with an objective eye. Does it make sense if you aren’t familiar with the subject already? Did you provide enough description? Are the photos understandable? How many finalists are there? To find this out easily, go to the contest page and look at the total number of prizes to be awarded. The number of finalists for a given contest will match the number of total prizes. Why wasn't my project chosen as a winner/finalist?This can happen for all kinds of reasons, honestly. See the "How are finalists selected?" question above for a more in depth explanation of what we're looking for.The most important thing to stress is that we are going through TONS of entries for every contest, so it's important to set yourself apart. Choose a clear and concise title, tell us a story, share great photos, explain the project well. If there are projects similar to yours in the contest already, make sure your project exceeds theirs in awesomeness. Also remember that competition is fierce in the contests - there are always a LOT of amazing entries. When it comes down to selecting winners sometimes it's the little things because when you're comparing awesome to awesome the little things are all you can look at. So be detailed orientated when writing your instructable. Judging Who judges the contests? This is typically a mix of Instructables staff and authors on the site (your peers!). Each contest is normally assigned 10-50 judges.Lately we’ve had an average of 15-20 judges complete the process. I always try to add as many judges as possible, because more judges means the judging is more fair and helps to reduce bias. How can I help judge a contest? If you’re interested in helping us judge, check out this forum topic! To judge, you must have published at least one Instructable. We send out PMs to judges on the Friday after a contest closes. How do I judge a contest/access the judging ballot? We’ve written up an Instructable over it! You can find it here: https://www.instructables.com/id/How-to-Judge-a-C...Once you're added to the list of judges, you’ll be able to access the ballot. Prizes How do you pick prizes? Can I suggest prizes? We've got a pretty small budget prize here, so it's a mix of trying to be frugal but still give you guys something fancy. We try to order most of our prizes from Amazon.com because they have reliable shipping and tons of options. If you'd like to suggest an awesome prize, do it here! I don't like these prizes, can I trade?Short answer: nope!Long answer: we choose prizes well ahead of time and order prizes at the start of the contest (for 95% of what we run) and we don’t make substitutions. We typically have anywhere from 100-250 winners a month (and increasing all the time!), so it’s not feasible to give choices and sub things out. Only three of us on staff work with ordering the prizes and shipping them out, so that would be lots of work! However, we have allowed winners to switch prizes with another winner on occasion (both parties must agree and let us know before we ship them!) and we’re fine with you selling your prize somewhere else. How do I get my prize if I win? When contest winners are announced, we’ll send you a message with a form to fill out. Make sure to fill this out completely and remember that we require a phone number and that we can’t ship to P.O. boxes.Winners are responsible for any trade tax or tariffs incurred for shipping to your location. We cannot reduce the value of the prize so you pay less tax (nice try, though, you sneaky hobbit!!). When will my prize ship?We try to ship prizes as soon as possible! 75% of our contests have prizes that are easily shipped right away and you should receive notification of shipment within a week or so.Sometimes we do have to order items AFTER the contest ends or wait for a sponsor to ship the items. If we think there will be a delay, we’ll let the winners know. We’ve been trying very hard to make sure we’re reaching out and updating winners about prize statuses. Also: VERY IMPORTANT - the sooner all winners give us their contact info, the sooner we can make big orders of custom sizes. Sometimes there’s a huge delay just because we’ve got one straggler. Be a good winner and let us give you prizes, dangit!!

Japan Day 1

(I am planning on doing a forum post for each day of my trip in Japan. The first few days will just be copy pasted from my blog (but now with pictures, and image notes!), and after that I will type up the entry I kept for each day in my journal)I am writing this all on my eee pc, and, while I am getting the hang of this tiny keyboard, typing mistakes are common. I am also in various states of mental functioning so excuse any grammatical errors.I woke up at around 6:45 on Thursday morning. I had been feeling a bit under the weather, and was slightly congested. I really hoped that I did not catch something right before my trip. I woke up the other interns (Bilal, Josh, and Paul), because I knew they would be very sad and might cry, if I did not give them the last chance to say goodbye to me. We did a 4 way shoulder-tap, the universe imploded, and I was off.As I walked down Clementina I realized that it would be the last time I smelled that poo stench on the street. I had mixed feelings about this. The BART ride to SFO was very uneventful. Check in was amazingly fast. The line was short and moved quickly. I had almost everything I was taking with me in my carry-on. There was nothing in my checked baggage but knives and lint (one knife & one swiss tech mulikey). Anyway the whole process of checking in took about 15 minutes. The security checkpoint was even faster. There was no line, and for the first time in a long time I didn't set off the metal detector. I had shown up three hours before my flight to be safe, and I was now left with two hours and forty minutes to kill.I went to the currency exchange and turned 300$ into 27,000 yen. The Lonely Planet guidebook I have (which was printed just last year), has the exchange rate of one USD to 120 Yen, at the exchange booth they offered about 98 Yen for a dollar, google says the current rates are 107 yen to a dollar. Stupid weak American money. Anyway, I used ten dollars which I did not convert to yen to buy an english muffin breakfast sandwich and a gatorade. I went to my terminal, and accidentally dropped the barely touched sandwich on the floor while removing my backpack. I was hungry :(I read for two hours then boarded the plane at around 11. There were many people coughing on this eleven hour flight, so I did not have high hopes for avoiding sickness. Read some more on the flight, watched iron man in Japanese, watched iron man in english, and watched be kind rewind. They served two decent meals, and a few snacks in between. Ten hours later when we were finally over Japan, I went to the back of the plane, and stared out the window in the emergency exit door to get my first view of Japan. We landed around 2 pm on Friday. It was hot, so very hot (humid too). I filled out my customs form, got fingerprinted, and photographed, and made my way over to the baggage claim to pick up my knives. I made my way out of the airport to the train, and bought a ticket for what I hoped was a kanayama station bound train. Turns out it was. (cue the "ding" sound that is played on the audio tracks for slideshows, when it is time to change the slide). The first few pictures are of Kanayama station. There was a cool little inflatable pool, with little kids in miniature paddle boats. They also had a bunch of those water mist sprayers that people stand in front of to cool off.I relaxed at the train station for a bit before I caught the number 12 bus. I took it to the Ishikawa Bashi stop, and got off. I used a pay phone to call up Changmi who I had found on couchsurfing.com. I actually set up the couchsurf with her husband (who was out of town) who said it would be ok for me to stay, so I think she was a little surprised when I called. She said that she was currently hosting two couples who each had a small child. It was cool if I stayed, but it would be crowded. She picked me up at the nearest intersection with her mother, one of the couples, and their child in the car.We drove to downtown Nagoya and they let us out. Changmi and her mother were going somewhere, so I hung out with Sarah, Seba, and their daughter Maya. They were couchsurfers from France who had been in Japan for a couple of weeks. We walked around central park in downtown Nagoya for a bit. There is the large TV tower at one end of the park, and a bunch of art pieces scattered about randomly (metal taco boat thing). We went and got dinner, which I later found out to be pig intestines, with an egg, over rice. It was pretty good. After eating we took the subway back to Changmi's house and slept.Japan Day 2

Total Views Count - 13/07/2012

Here's this week's total views count. To get on the list and have your stats monitored each week and get patches, join the group. If you joined since last week's run, you won't be on the list yet since the script to update the database with members isn't working yet. I hope to get it fixed this weekend. I also need a new name for the group. Over the next week I will be able to automatically hand out patches every day for Total Views, Comments, Forum Topics, Number of Instructables, Number of Followers, Number Following, Answers and Best Answers. With this in mind my weekly forum topic every friday will contain: 1) A list welcoming all the new members that have joined that week 2) A list of who's been awarded what patch that week so we can see each other achieve important milestones 3) A list of links to lists like the one below, one list for each type of stat so that you can compare your progress to your friends. So I need a new name for the group to reflect these changes, since total views count no longer reflects what the group will do. Please make suggestions in the comments below. I'll try think of a good prize for the best suggestion.
