Good Gauntlet Ideas

Hey guys! So, I've been going around, and trying to figure out exactly what my next project is going to be. I want to make a gauntlet. Whatever I make, it has to be a gauntlet of a sort. Preferably a cool tech idea, or a weapon, but any ideas help. I have an old strap made for an arm gauntlet. I didn't measure it, but it is roughly an inch and a half thick, possibly two. I have multiple altoids tins, a pair of busted headphones (everything but the auxiliary cord is there, but the wiring needs some tlc), a lot of small dc motors, rubber bands, some old cell phones, and some odds and ends. I prefer not to purchase anything if possible, just make it. As real as possible for any weapon ideas (like, if it is a launcher, it should penetrate a box, if not more). Thanks everyone!

Steampunk nixie tube gauntlet watch?

I am..... not very good with electronics. ill admit it. but i still love that feeling when you do something and finish and it feels perfect. and i really need some help. i have been looking everywhere in my town and nobody has any nixie tubes (probably because they are so old), and they are really expensive on places like ebay. i also have no clue how to work the pins, and how i could get such a high voltage. and make it all into a watch. and to make it small. and to keep it under 30 dollars. what a mouthful.      So could you all just list where you get your tubes, how you wire and program them, and how you even make a portable and practicle power source? i have been looking into the disposable camera power source, but that is already kinda big. when done i will have a leather/metal gauntlet to wear on my arm. it can take up about half of my forearm. can this even be done? i dont have an arduino, but i have a basic stamp, but its not good at keeping time, so thats out. please list your help and ideas below. and your knowledge is greatly wanted!!!

Duct Tape Armor

I'm planning (Read: Going forth with no idea what to do) on making a suit of armor completly made out of duct tape. (Partially made a gauntlet, so it might work) But here's the question I have; Should I post an instructable on each peice (Gauntlet, Helmet, Greives) by itself, or as one big instructable that might have a million steps (Okay, not that many)? I'm leaning more to the idea of one peice at a time, and then when I'm done just putting them all together into one big instructable. What do you all think? And is this project even worth doing? (Will add picture of sad gauntlet reject at later date)

how can i make an arm mounted lightsaber?

i know that an arm mounted lightsaber is just an overglorified lightsaber casing made by making a gauntlet that holds a force action lightsaber and then having a hand lever that pushes the button thereby making the lightsaber extend and light up and then the said hand lever goes back to its original position and locks into place. thereby making a cool hidden lightsaber effect but I'm stumped on how to make the gauntlet itself

What props/armor are a must-make in the DIY world?

I'm currently looking towards making something like weapons, armors, etc., specifically those with origins from movies, cartoons, video games, etc. Other than the ones everyone does such as Halo, Iron Man, knight armor, etc. what other armor, weapons, or accessories are a must-make or just plain awesome? Think along the lines of something like the Batman gauntlet, except from movies (or something) that are old but still remembered and cool. Also thinking of a long term project of a chiken-walker mech costume, exoskeleton costume (NOT Iron Man), or AT-RT. What do you think?

Come Page! And Bring Thine Armor!

So a friend and I made some awesome armor... Not so much for Halloween, more so for our homecoming football game. Our mascot happens to be a Knight named Knightro (his girlfriend's name is Glycerin)....Both of us had....Chest/Back PlateShields (mine from an aluminum disk sled - covered in fabric)SwordsHelmets (yes, made from trash cans) - with a maneA Cape (my friend's: gold -- mine: two tone black/gold - doubles as a homemade curtain)GauntletsVambracesLower LeggingsBeards - grown during the entire month of OctoberMy friend's awesome stencil work :) I additionally had (photo right)Full leggings with functional kneecupsKnuckle covers on my gauntletsPauldrons with red fringe (foamie) <-- should coversFaulds with red fringe <-- hip coversSword Sheath <--- a belt going through only 1 beltloopWe were a total hit at the football game! Lots of people asked to have their picture taken with us. Other than one heckler, it was awesome - no one else's attempt was knightly as ours :p Should you end up in such a situation (taking pictures and such), let the person hold your shield or sword. It makes them look more a part of the picture as opposed to some anachronism (the irony!) with a digital camera. And yes, I know my apartment is a mess..... That's three days of working on this armor rather than doing chores :pFor how to make such a getup... Check out rachel's howto Cardboard Armor MakingMore pictures after the next home game -- with updated/improved armor. Even though I allow my knees to bend - it's not quite enough to get up stairs easily :p I also want to add spaulders (upper arm covers) and a gorget (neck armor) :D

does anyone know how I can hack a coby dp562 digital frame?

Odd question, I know, but ill explain.   I have made a PIPBOY 3000 prop for holloween and am using the coby DP562 as the screen, it should just fit and allow photos, videos, and music.  if you dont know what a pipboy is, it is a gauntlet computer from the game Fallout 3. i just wanted to know if the was a way to hack it and change the menus.  I dont want to change the functionality, just the appearence.  so that the menus look like the pipboy menus.  I was going to add the radio songs to the music folder and the pipboy screen jpegs to the pictures folder, with a looping video for the radio screen into the videos folder.  which will all work great, but it would be nice to have the in between menus look the same.  heres a couple of reference photos.

Creating a solar powered clock

Im currently trying to make a solar powered watch the size of a gauntlet. at max i want to use 2 AAA batteries. The biggest problem i have right now is how do solar panel recharging work and what not. I know and fully understand the straight through setups with a simple diode to avoid the battery bleeding at night. and for power to go from the panels to the batteries the voltage has to be higher then the batteries voltage. but how do i make the battery recharge higher then the clock drainage on the battery and avoid extreme over charging where 1. i kill the batteries 2. avoid having the users arm blow off. i was thinking of making a bleed off where if the battery reaches a certian voltage the power is drained a little. Iv also heard from some that a small solar panel can recharge a battery but would never damage it cause it only only charge at 12 hours max and with the clock the drainage will be enough. does any one else have more information on this. like how do i obtain high enough voltage to recharge a battery but very very slowly. thanks

Did you miss me?

You may have noticed that I mysteriously stopped posting for a couple of days. I've been camping! I came on as a last-minute substitute when another leader was unexpectedly hospitalised, and whizzed off to Gilwell 24 with a small group of our Explorer Scouts. It's an awesome event for teenage scouts - from 09:00 Saturday, to 09:00 Sunday, 24 hours of non-stop activities without the requirement of sleep.  Four thousand Explorer Scouts took up the challenge, and almost all of them managed a full 24 hours of extreme Scouting. 3G Swing Archery Bushcraft Zone Bouldering Campfire Climbing (Outdoor rock and revolving wall) Craft zone Crate stacking Disco Fairground Flying Trapeze Geocaching Giant games Gilwell gauntlet Global Zone - including Shelterbox High ropes course Laser Clay Pigeon Shooting Mountain boarding Orienteering Outdoor arena Quad Bikes Outdoor Woodland Quaser Raft Racing / Boat Racing Rifle Shooting Competition Scavenger hunt Scuba Diving Slacklining Speed climbing Segways Simulators Technology zone Water rockets Assault Course Car driving Go Karts Power Boking Inflatables Fire Building Fishing Military Activity Team Speed Stacking Caving Zorbing As well crafts and other activities going on all the time (I had my first go at wood-turning at 14:00, and was soldering together an AM band radio at 22:30 (goodness me, the writing on a capacitor gets small later at night!)). Add to that a month's rain in about 20 hours, giving liquid mud on the scale of Glastonbury, it's hardly a surprise that every single Explorer fell asleep on the train home. Because my standing-in was very short notice, none of my electronics were properly charged, but I did get a few snaps of the atmosphere before my iPod completely died. I have never been so wet or so dirty on a camping trip, and I was taking it easy - it's the first time I've been forced to pack my tent away wet and muddy at the end of a camp. If you're a Scout or an Explorer, and will be over 13½ next July, why not take up the challenge yourself? If you fancy taking part, offering an activity, or otherwise getting involved in next year's event, they are already taking comments and ideas.  If you're not in Scouting, and didn't realise it was so awesome (or that girls are allowed at any age), then why not think about joining? (As an aside, I'd never seen Rock-It-Ball being played before.  Looks fun.)
