Gift exchange

I have a question about the Gift Exchange contest that I believe applies to other people besides me. It is in the line "Since we're just getting started with this idea we're starting a little small. Therefore, this gift exchange is only open to featured authors." I am wondering if future gift exchanges will be open to other people besides the ones featured. It is a great idea, having a world-wide gift exchange! Anyways, I'm an ok writer, but doubt I will ever get featured, so will I ever be able to enter? I am just saying that it will be a lot more fun; more people, ideas, and happiness. I believe future gift swaps will allow anyone to enter without having to be featured. Thanks for listening! Please comment if you have similar thoughts or ideas

Gifts for teachers

It's that time of year again, end of the Summer term, and for a lot of kids it's their last few days in school. #2 Son's teacher runs the school's gardening club, so we bought her a trowel.  He wrote a message on the blade, and I dremelled it through to the bare metal*. What are you (or your kids) making for their teachers? Post a picture here, if you don't mind looking like a teacher's pet... *We also wiped over the bare metal with 3-in-1 oil to slow down the rust, since we'd exposed the metal.

Gifts for DIYers?

I haven't noticed any wish list threads, so I thought I might start one. What kind of gifts are you asking for/giving that have to do with DIY? If you're Jewish, what have you gotten or given? Since I'm going off to college this summer, It's about time I jump start my own tool collection. I'm still not sure what I'll do next year without all the power tools, but I guess that's why I'm staying in-state. I got a multi head screw driver one night for Hanukkah, and I'm asking for a tool box, ratchet clamps and a speed square for Christmas (we celebrate both.) Your turn!

Gift ideas for travelers? Answered

I'm searching for some gift ideas for my parents.  They like to travel; to the caribbean and Germany mostly.  I figure it would be a good idea to get them something travel-related.  Stuff like portable scales (for weighing luggage), security door stops, mini first aid kits, water purifiers.  They stick to hotels when traveling so no camping or survival gear is really necessary. So, any clever ideas?

Member gift exchange?

I just heard about imgr doing sort of a secret Santa type gift exchange for valentines day and thought that was a super cool idea. While we're probably too late for v day, maybe that would be a fun thing to put together for a "spring cleaning" maker trade. There's a lot of amazing talent on this site and I bet some of us could definitely stand to clear our workbenches of surplus or unsold projects. Each person would get the name and address of another member and send something they make, and receive something from a different person in return. I'm happy to help organize it, but I'm not sure about the best way to assign gifts since we can't just draw names out of a hat. Suggestions? And do we divide it by country so nobody has to deal with international postage, or leave it wide open? I welcome ideas and definitely would like to gauge interest.

Christmas Gift Ideas

Ok, I'm not a big one for receiving gifts.  I like telling me people to get me this or that, that if the need for something was that great then I would already have it. Well my wife won't leave it alone, so she is making me make a list.  I have nothing nerdy or diy oriented although I've always loved everything about instructables / make. Basicly I'm hoping people on here can give me an idea of where I can start.  First off maybe suggest a book to get me started in circuitry / electronics, don't really need one probably due to online tutorials. Also I need tools, tell me what tools a novice electronics hobbyist should invest in first. Thanks!

Gift Giving In the Community

After making my friend Weiss a genuine Instructables nametag while I was interning (he specifically asked me to), he told me that he'd pay me back somehow. The other day I got an IM from him saying that he was sending me a holiday gift, which I thought was really, really generous! Today, the 11th, I received a letter in the mail today from Weiss!I eagerly opened it, to find a caring message, "Happy Hannukah!" and an awesome photogram. I'm really loving the muffins, robots, and muffiny text! So, it's that time of the year again, and I'm thinking that it's time I gave back to the community.... literally. For those select few of you who have really helped me along with my projects, emulated my projects, or have come to me for help, and maintained contact with me, expect to see a little something holiday-related in your mailbox at some point (if you choose to accept such a gift). It might arrive really late, and I'm sorry about that, but I really have to get my college apps in before that January first deadline.Anyhow, I'll PM you before I send it out, and if you think that I might have forgotten about you, just hit me up with a PM or orangeboard post =)

Entry for the gift exchange

My skills include: cooking, sewing, sculpting, zookeeping / herpetology, painting, puppet-making, electronics hacks for Halloween Here's a link to my featured Instructable: https://www.instructables.com/id/Convert-a-bird-feeder-into-a-wild-bird-waterer/ https://www.instructables.com/id/Recycled-Denim-Shopping-Bag/ What I'd like to make for someone: I love gift exchanges but I lived in apartments for many years, so I know that sometimes it is best to receive a memorable but consumable gift. For my gift entry, I will create special chocolates from a custom sculpture designed for the recipient.  I have been casting art in chocolate for several years.  First, I make a sculpture using special food-safe clay.  Then I take a mold using special food-safe silicon mold material.  And finally, I cast the sculpture in chocolate, using powdered sugar as a mold release.  You tell me what the recipient likes and I'll make the sculpture to match their interests.  I can also cast one piece in acrylic if that would be desirable, so the recipient will have a memento after the chocolates are eaten.  Note, however that after I cast with acrylic, the mold will be unusable for food, so it will all be a one-of-a-kind food art experience.  Transient, impermanent, never to be repeated. This process is incredibly flexible, so use your imagination.  Imagine a big chocolate Cthulhu surrounded by little chocolate Cthulhu minions.  Or a flight of diminutive chocolate butterflies.  Or a bust of lincoln. Actually, I don't think I'm that good a sculptor.  Maybe I could do Beethoven. I already have created molds for large and small Venus of Willendorf, several small calaveras, a tiny bite-sized penis, a delicate dragonfly, several sizes of scarab beetle, an ammonite fossil, and a large spider.  I can send a box of any of those, or create a new one.   The Venus of Willendorf are very popular with my friends.  The ammonite fossils were a hit at the office.  What design would you like? I'd be willing to make this size gift package for someone (choose all that apply): (S,M,L) S or M (I don't think I could refrigerate L sized chocolate for a trip in the mail.) I'd be willing to receive a smaller or larger size gift package from someone than the one I make for someone else: I don't want anything larger than a hat rack, unless it is for outside. What I like: Art, light toys, knitted Cthulhu beasties, things that have been made more useful than the original designer intended What I don't like: Things made from trash that still look like trash I absolutely can't have: (due to allergies, pets, etc) No foods except for unflavored chocolatey chocolate.  No herbal concoctions, soaps, essential oils, or anything like that.  I have lots of plant and food allergies. Type of thing I'd love to receive: wall art, light toys, sculpture, anything with a zombie theme, anything that has been more useful than the original designer intended Would you be willing to ship to an address outside your own country? No, because I will have to ship the chocolates with dry ice and I'm just not sure they would let me do that, plus it would all melt sitting in customs and be a big unattractive lump by the time it arrived. Confirm that are at least 18 years old or, if not, that you have the approval of a parent or guardian:  I am older than 18. (opt) Here's someone who can keep a secret that knows what I like, in case you want to PM them with questions: I will cast a few chocolates today and post better photos later.

Eligibility For Holiday Gifts?

In the Holiday Gifts Contests it states handmade gifts to be entered. The project I wanted to post however involves a laser cutter, would this count as handmade or be disqualified?
