Movie Glasses

I had an idea the other night, but no idea of how to go about it. I Want to take two small screens probably about one to two inches big, then mount them on sunglasses and somehow input movie from an HDMI or an HDMI micro. like This: http://www.chinavasion.com/cool-gadgets/60-inch-virtual-video-screen-glasses-for-iphone-ipad-ipod/ but for anything that can output HDMI. i thought about this when i was on the plane and was tired of the people behind me asking to tilt the monitor -.- i have a Thrill 4G that uses a Micro HDMI to HDMI so im sure it would work with my phone and many others if we did it(although users without that HDMI port would need the adapter that makes Mirco USB to HDMI aswell) so basicly.. Android phone to adapter that has HDMI in to a pair of 2" screens to output movie ---------- I        ->I ------------------------- ]----------  I Imicro I                                   I Device   I                        IHDMI I                                   I                I                                                                        I ______ }------------------ ---[videodisplay ] --[videodisplay]  Android                               HDMI       video                     sunglass                          sunglass                                                 IN               out                       screen1                           screen2

Glass Desk

So I'm in the middle of this rebuild of this stand up desk that I am finally getting around to. Now I tore off the old laminate, it was cracked so on, and so on. Now I was going to just put new laminate on it however, I sanded down the wood directly below and while I was rearranging my shop I  placed some glass I had laying around on top of it. Looking at it I realized I wanted to put glass on it instead of laminate.... (Thought process incase anyone is interested.... No one? Okay moving on.) Two questions.  One What type of glass should I use for the desk. I know tempered glass is safer, however I also know it will break much easier. Plus, the glass wont be floating with nothing below it so its not like if it does break glass will go everywhere if I use normal glass. And I don't want to use plexiglass because I don't want to have to deal with scratches.   Two Can I go to Home Depot and get glass cut to my dimensions needed for the desk?

Glass alternative

I have a large map (55" x 40") that I am building a frame for, yet there's no way I can afford a piece of glass this large and am looking for cheap alternatives. I am aware of plexiglass, but am wondering if there is anything else out there. My last ditch resort is to laminate it, but do not like that idea to much for aesthetic reasons. Thanks

Thick Conductive Glass

I have a desk with a glass surface and have this inspiration to mount the tablets that I use as additional monitors under the glass. I need to replace it with something that will allow the touch inputs through it. Ill settle for any solid transparent material but I need it too have a decent thickness that I can maintain roughly the same strength of the glass material as part of the pretense is I would like to be able to still set things on top of the desk and use it as a workspace.

Japanese Glass Float

My dad is going to give me a glass float (which will be called a glass ball from now on) but I need to make something to hold it so that it doesn't get broken. I want something that will look good but not cost too much. So... Any ideas?

Projecting onto glass

Alright here's my question, I know I've seen it done a couple places, the first image I could find as an example was just this :http://www.en.dnp.dk/data/4418/3791/4418.jpg# (just see below)What kind of glass do I need to do something like this? I'd like to build a table of sorts out of glass with a projector built into the frame under it to project upwards onto the glass, then eventually perhaps adding an IR sensor and work towards building a touchscreen/MS-Surface-like table. Any thoughts? Obviously its not normal glass or the projector would just pass through it

Video projection on glass?

Hi I was doing some resources on how to achieve a rear projection on transparent surfaces like glass, but without of much success (there are projects on this site, but all are using a black projection material). I would like to do it on a shop window using a projector. I have found out that I need some special foil to get this working, but most of them are black and not transparen and there are a lots of brands. I am wondering if there would be a DIY solution, maybe a frosted white sticker cut to the size would work, to still keep a level of transparency on of the window. Suggestions are welcomed! Thanks!

Metal eyeglass arms have lost their coating, what to use to re-coat them?

Hi and thanks for reading my question. I wear reading glasses and have had some pretty good luck with a pair that I purchased at CVS approximately four years ago. The only thing that has went wrong is that the clear-coating, that used to cover the inside of the glass's "arms" has worn off, from the rubbing of the inside of the arms against my head as I put the glasses on and take the glasses off. Does anybody please have any suggestions about what I should use to re-coat the arms of my reading glasses? Thanks again for reading my question and thanks also to anybody that can please offer me any suggestion(s)! Dan

Solar panel: Shattered glass - epoxy or replace the glass? Answered

Hello, I see many projects/videos about making solar panels or repairing shattered glass on solar panel with things like epoxy. But I have found nothing about chaging the glass of the solar panel. The cost of epoxy  for a repair seems quite high (30$+?) and maybe not always suited long term. Assuming the cost of the glass wasnt much higher, is there something practical stoping a repair by chaging the glass rather than using epoxy? Thank you!

Attach LED's to (eye)Glasses with the Ability to Dim

Hello,   I'm trying to make eye glasses that are an indicator of how interested I am in what you are saying. (I'm not that big of a jerk, its for an art project ;) ) My idea is to put LED's around the frame that glow brightly when I am interested, and dim to nothing with I'm not.  It's just important to have the in between.  Ideally, this would be controlled by a slide switch dimmer.   The problem is that I really have no idea what I'm doing.  Is this possible? And could someone explain, in the most simple yet informative terms, how to make this work? Thank you!

I lost my glasses in the ocean; help me choose a new pair!

I lost my glasses kitesurfing in some enormous waves at Waddell Creek yesterday! I went through the complete spin-cycle: caught in a wave, spun so fast underwater I didn't know which way was up, almost run out of breath, lose glasses, etc... I forgot to write my email address on them, so if you find a pair of glasses somewhere along the Northern California coast let me know! I've worn my glasses in the ocean for more than 6 years without incident; in fact, I lost so many pairs of contacts to the ocean, that I started favoring my glasses. Below you can see me just coming back to shore wearing my glasses -- on this particular day, I was so tired after 6 hours of kitesurfing that I couldn't get the food into my mouth properly. I choose that pair by wandering into an optical store and demanding "1960's NASA engineer glasses." They were probably more "graphic designer" glasses, but cool nonetheless. Help me choose what I should get next! I'm partial to http://www.optical4less.com/ because they're super cheap and believe me when I tell them "my prescription really hasn't changed and I don't need another eye exam."

What would I need and how would I go about making Chromatic Lenses (AR glasses to assist colour blind people)? Answered

I am colour blind. Mainly with reds and browns. Now, for a long time, that's stopped me from finding work in the fields I am interested in. Or limited me at least. However, I've had this idea in my head of a pair of glasses/goggles with an AR (Augmented Reality) functionality, which, if you press a button, it tells you in plain, English terms, at the top of the viewable bit of glass, what colour it is, but also the nearest possible hex code. Thus far I've worked out that it needs some kind of miniature digital camera, lenses that can display text information (might be the hardest thing to create... It doesn't need any user interface, at least on the early version, as its sole purpose is to identify the colour and nothing else, so I think the actual display will be very simple (which since it's supposed to be worn as glasses, makes sense as you still need to see even when the text is being displayed)), and a power source that either lasts a long time or is renewable, or is easily replaced like AA batteries. I've been thinking more and more that this would be really useful for me and for anyone else who is colourblind, but since I don't really know where to begin or even how much a working prototype would cost me to build, I just decided to say "sod any chance of patenting this idea, let's just ask the Internet so someone with the know-how can help!". If the AR bit of this doesn't seem quite possible at this point in time, perhaps some kind of application that can run on a modern smartphone would be a good alternative?

Cheap Eyeglasses - No, it isn't SPAM

Ok, first off, this isn't SPAM - I'm not advertising, just trying to figure something out about this company.Zenni OpticalThey sell glasses starting from $8! Glasses from a local glasses retailer cost around $120, at least! How can they afford to go down that low, compared to other stores? Is it their method of production, like they use different, cheaper materials? I've order 2 pairs off of their site, one regular, one sunglasses. I'll be awaiting the results. Still, it's crazy how low they can go, or how overpriced local stores are.

Making or modifying eyeglass frames

My eyes are dim, I cannot see...

You may not know, but I wear contacts. They're monthly disposables - I can leave them in 24/7 for most of a month, as long as I go without for a coupld of day in between. Unfortunately, I seem to have lost my spectacles. Since last I wore them, I have been to Cornwall (other side of the country) and on cub camp (in a field). I fear my spectacles are lost somewhere between. Being massively short-sighted, I am consequently having trouble seeing things. I have "Ctrl+ed", but I still have my nose just a hand-span from the screen and key-board. So, if I accidentally post gibberish tonight, and the next night or two, blame it on the mole-eyes. UPDATE: I have a headache, g'night all.

What is the ultimate glass glue?

I've been looking for the ultimate glass glue. I have tried many that claim to be, but in reality they are pretty much Testors model glue in a different package. All I have come across dry a bit rubbery and while it may be desirable in some projects, with a little flexing, the glue peals away. I have seen glass glued to glass that was clear, rigid and unyielding. So I know that it does exist. Suggestions.....
