Fixing '98 Electronic GM Automatic Transmission 4L60 setting code 1870?

I have a '98 Blazer with a 4L60 Automatic Transmission that shifts rough after it warms up  into second gear and sometimes third when leaving a red light or stop sign. After I stop the vechicle for 10 minutes or so, it shifts smooth until it warms up again.  I was told not enough transmission fuild was flowing threw a checkball inside the trans? I was hoping to fix it without rebuilding it or a high price tag. Anyone have any knowledge on this issue?

GM Universal remote extra button?

I have a GMC pickup with a 3 button remote.  I discovered that GM uses the same PCB for all its remotes, so I have a 3 button case surrounding a 4 button PCB.  I want to use the extra button to control an add-on to the truck.  Does anyone know of a way to acquire the RF receiver, what the part number is, etc, and how it would need to be wired in to allow control of external lights on the truck?  I know it would have to be wired into a relay to allow the kind of amperage I am thinking of...but what else am I missing?

Greasemonkey Script: Quick Contest Voting!

For those who are having trouble voting for contests because of the sheer number of entries, I've written this little guy to aid you in your sacred duty. First, you'll need to:Install ScriptThen, head on over to a [/contest/bookcontest/?show=ENTRIES&sort;=RATING page like this], and you'll see 40 entries with a separator half-way down. This shows the script is working. It will *not* work on any page other than page 1. To use it, start rating! After you've rated the first 20 and hit the "barrier", press the button and start rating the bottom set. By the time that you've finished those, the top set will have finished loading. (Don't forget to press the button again!) Overall, this will save hours* waiting for the page to load. So, what are you waiting for? Install ScriptNote: This script is pretty much in an "alpha" stage. Sorry if it leaks or causes terrible hurricanes to come and devour your toes mm... tasty. Also, I'm just throwing this forum post up to make the script public, I'll revise it with a bit more instruction once I'm not so tired. ;-)

Who wants to test a new GM Script?

I've been working on this new Greasemonkey script that, IMO, is a lot better than the others. It allows you to rate comments. Your ratings aren't for your own benefit alone: they're stored on a server where they are mashed together with everyone else's to create a full-blown rating system! And, I'm using Google App Engine as a backend, so there won't be any server downtime! For this, you actually have to do a little sign-up procedure. Go here, & put in your username. You'll then have to post a comment*, and then you can get the script. This makes sure that one user can't cheat the system by having 100 accounts. From there, its pretty easy to use. Next to the username, 5 pseudo-boxes will appear. Use them as follows:[!] - This comment answered the question in the topic (use sparingly)[+] - Positive vote[-] - Negative vote[x] - Remove your vote[?] - HelpIf you run across any bugs, or have any suggestions, please let me know. I'll be glad to hear them! From there, if I do fix a bug, here's the best part: you usually don't have to update anything! It will automagically use the newer version. In the future, I may require you to manually update, but there is a notifier in place, and yet it is very unlikely that it will be needed.

Blinking/ moving LED eyes?

I'm currently working on a project that needs two (2) eyes about the size of half dollars. My goal is to have these eyes "blink" in a way, whether if it's the LEDs blinking or the actual eyes blinking. Maybe Arduino?  I'm not good with Arduino at all (yet), so any help would be appreciated. Thanks! -GM

installing a DVD console in a 06 Malibu Maxx?

I have an OEM DVD RSE (Rear Seat Entertainment) console. It is for a 2006 Chevy Malibu Maxx LTZ. The console I have in my car is without the DVD component. I see 4 holes to bolt it into the center. As I will have to remove the one in my car and replace it with the new GM part, will I have to take the seats out? Anything special I should do first?

A complete roleplaying game in one post

I can't post this as an Instructable, because it's not my game at all.  It surfaced in the sorting out of my lab as my school closed. My original copy of the game was a page in Games and Puzzles magazine, but this is my own re-type of it, which I had to re-type again because the first digital copy was lost during one PC upgrade or another. The document gives me permission to pass it on (even though it pre-dates the Creative Commons movement), but I have emailed the author to let him know I'm posting it anyway.  I've not had a reply, but the page I found his address on had not been updated since 2009. UPDATE: Frank has been in touch, is happy for the game to be published like this, and is even going to send me copies of v2 if he ever finds them. FURTHER UPDATE: Frank has sent me a scan of the v2 rules, which I have added as the first image below. I thought older members might like to be reminded of their youth, and younger members sometimes need reminding that roleplaying games didn't always need a computer with a high-speed internet connection Here is the text, and I have attached a tidier-looking PDF of the same text: --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- S.I.M.P.L.E. by Frank Carver Shared Imagination Multi Player Leisure Experience Have you ever been sitting around with a few friends and wanted to play a game – but hadn’t brought the rule books, supplements, charts & tables, character sheets, funny dice, metal figures etc? Here is the answer: a game simple enough to fit on one sheet of paper, and easy enough to remember & explain, even if you haven’t got that! ABOUT SIMPLE SIMPLE is a roleplaying game (RPG), in which each player controls the actions of a single character in an adventure. An adventure takes place in an imaginary world, which may be very different from the real world. Sometimes it’s outer space, the far future, wild west or fantasy. The background from any book, film, TV show may be used, or one from your own imagination. The adventure is usually organised by one player acting as Game Master (GM), who knows about the setting and provides things for the characters to do – problems to solve, enemies to defeat, victims to be rescued, riches to be gained ... anything the other players might enjoy. Problems are solved by thinking them through, talking to the other players and the GM, and rolling dice to see if your plan works. Details of each character are recorded on a character sheet, which develops from game to game. Travel the Universe without ever leaving your chair! TO PLAY You need at least two players (more than 5 or 6 is hard work), a copy of this sheet, at least one normal 6-sided die, a pen or pencil (an eraser is handy), some paper to write on and your imagination. THE SIMPLE CHARACTER Each SIMPLE character is described by three things – Body, Mind and Abilities. Body is a single number showing how strong and tough the character is. Mind is also a number, showing how clever and aware the character is. Abilities are things the character is good at. Each Ability has a description, and a number which shows how much better than average the character is. If your character is just average at something, it doesn’t go on their Ability list. Each character starts with 10 character points, which may be put into Body, Mind and Ability. For each point put into Body or Mind, the number goes up by one. For each half point put into Ability, the number goes up by one. Abilities may be anything that suits the setting. The GM and other players must agree with them. For example: running, science, driving, casting spells, seeing in the dark... EXAMPLE CHARACTER SHEET Name: Gus Goodguy Player: Frank Body: 5 Mind: 3 Abilities: Gunfight 2, ride horse 1, drink whisky 1 Description: A gunfighter in the Old West. Rides tall in the saddle, tips his white 10-gallon hat to ladies, calls men “Pardner”, travels the dusty plains looking for bandits to catch or farmers to rescue. Likes his whisky, and wil never resist a call to a shoot-out. USING THE NUMBERS IN AN ADVENTURE To see if a character succeeds at a task, the GM decides on the difficulty (5=easy, 8=average, 11=hard, 14=very hard and so on) and whether it is a physical (Body) task or a mental (Mind) task. The player then rolls a die and adds the character’s Body or Mind and any matching Abilities. A 6 means roll again and add the result. If the player’s total is better than the GM’s target, then the character has succeeded. The difference between the two numbers gives how well it was done. Gus Goodguy has Body 5 and Gunfight 2. To shoot Bill Badguy is an average (8) Body task. Gus rolls a 3, plus his body of 5, plus his gunfighting 2, making a total of 10 – succeeded by 2! Bill has been shot, and until his wound is treated his body is reduced by 1 point. If his Body falls to 1 he is unconscious, if it reaches 0 he is dead! At the end of a game, the GM may award up to one point to good players to spend on their characters. DOING EVERYTHING ELSE Most problems should be decided by the GM and common sense. Some useful hints, though: when time is important, like in a fight, do things in one-second rounds, with the character with the highest Body going first. A character can run Body (plus running Ability) metres per second. An “average” person has 4 Body and 4 MNind with no extra Abilities. If you need some enemies in a hurry, roll some dice onto the table – use the numbers on top as their Body score, and turn the die down one when they are injured. If you like this game, please copy it, give it to your friends, take it to conventions etc If you like it a lot, why not write to Frank Carver at: The Albion Guard Games Club, 62 Tomline Road, Ipswich, IP3 8DB, United Kingdom. This document is copyright Frank K Carver, 1992. Permission granted to copy and distribute this document, provided that only the complete document (including this provision) is copied and/or distributed. Enjoy!

Chrome open source browser available now!

At the moment, the only thing available for people anticipating Google's new open source browser, chrome, is screenshots and a comic book explaining why it was made. LinkyBut it is supposed to be available for download later today. Rumor is it will become available at 2 PM ET today. No word yet on whether it will steal your identity like Microsoft's IE.Hooray for opensource browsers! If it does become available today as planned, I'll link to the download page.Corrected link: Download linkSorry it took so long, I was scrubbing a toilet and simply lost track of the time...EDIT:Go here for adblocker, gmail, etc, GM scripts to run in chrome.

An structable that imitates and improves Wacom's Inkling

Hello all! Just surfing the web for some drawingtablets, that is where I found (duh! d'oh)Wacom Inkling http://www.wacom.eu/index2.asp?lang=en&pid;=9226&gm;=3 It looks cool, but: * I wonder if Wacom is "more compatible" with products they sell, in other words, buy Inkling buy other Wacom related products to make it compatible with each other. *Pen, pressure sensitive, but can you swap the inkleader with any you like? Especially(correct?) (I'm Dutch ;) ) the pen. When the ink has dried up, you don't want to buy another Wacom pen which takes ages to ship. It doesn't seem that hard to recreate something similar without my assumptive drawbacks. But is there a whizzkid that would like to make and instructable like this? Please? :) Regards Thomas

your holiday tradition nobody else has

I have recently become curious about holiday traditions that people have that no one else has. This curiosity began when I contacted a holiday historian about a tradition passed down in my own family. The historian felt this originated within my family, though it has elements similar to England's plum Pudding ( my gm was half English) . My best guess is that my grandmother came up this ( a gift filled Christmas Pie) out of a desire to make a meager Christmas special early in her marriage. We have a second tradition that I started. It is a house elf, who writes letters year around and visits for two weeks at Christmas. I called on him because of my daughter's terror of Santa, whom she called the Claws. Both these traditions were likely born of need, and because they served their purpose well, were embraced and stayed. Now I am curious about others. Do you have a tradition you will share?

Doctor Who Style IR Pen With Left and Right click, Sound effects and other LEDs optional

So I want to make a "Gaming Screen" where my friends can interact with while I GM from a computer, and after doing some research, the best option would be to use the Wiimote technique. To use that, I would have to make an IR pen, and guides for that are a dime a dozen, but I want to be different, not mundane. My question is: Is there a way for me to make a wireless IR pen with two buttons that will left and right click respectively, and if it's possibie, have one color LED go off when one is clicked and another color when the other is clicked, with a possible inclusion of sounds?  To Doctor Who fans out there, I want to make my own version of the iconic Sonic Screwdriver that can be used as an IR pen. If not, it would be okay if the other LEDs and possible sounds where activated by seperate buttons independent from the Left and Right clicks, or even if it all it can do is left and right click, I just want the two buttons, everything else is simply for fun.

Help for completion of Knee Walker Project ?

Hi Everyone I have a problem with a project I started to overcome my unique disability , this project was to basically install low powered electric motor on a kneewalker so I could get assistance / go off-road , yet still use it manually if need be i.e. to get some exercise or more importantly if battery dies ( something I cant do with mobility scooter or wheelchair  ) The problem however is I cant do this myself due my disability ( weld it , use power tools etc ) so I had this person i meet on a another  forum who agreed to help me - but unfortunately he hasnt   - so instead I am trying to find a replacement for him or any one that is willing to help. The motor itself ( Motor - MW12B GoldenMotor  )seems to work fine using a Lyens controller , but  unfortunately there is no direct link to the hub motor whose details are below. Model: MW12B -- 12" Motor Wheel Voltage:36V (Brushless) Power Rate:250W Weight: 4.8Kgs You will have to got to the gm website on the link above click on hub motors and scroll down to find more details , including links to 3d drawings . You can see the motor itself working in following videos that were posted by the person who still has it video1 video2 video3 Due to the size difference of the wheel  ( 16" compared to the front 9" using MTB tires ) amongst other things, we were  trying to find a way to mount it that he suggested would probably involve having to weld on some strong rear forks from a bike  or perhaps something else. Ive included the whole assessment / plan we did based on our mutual ideas and discussions below for reference, but Im afraid thats pretty much it , as I dont have any of the parts here for reference or than the basic facts . If any ones interested in helping , or going me any advice Id be grateful for your suggestions , if any ones wants to offer their services at a price just send me a pm and we discuss things further. thanks for listening , heres the assessment / plan I mentioned.. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I need to figure out a rough plan for the wheel mounting, plus brake mounting. We need to get disc and caliper. We need to figure out what front wheels, how to mount them, and how to fix the sloppy steering. In order to go see a welder we need to know where to weld the dropouts, the caliper mounts, and what, if any welding to do at the front end. Assessment Frame - good, solid, heavy. bulletproof. Wheels - strong, solid, better made with bearings etc better than expected. but hard tires are not nice, and wheels are a little too thin and too small. I expect its easy to get hung up on small obstacles. brakes - crap. none existent basically. Just a bit of metal pushing on the tyre. Also the lever is either crap or a bit broken. need to inspect it. steering - not very good but not crap. whole linkgae is a bit loose and wobbly, just held together by a few bolts. this means it has a fair bit of play in the steering. The whole thing with the bolts is that they have to be a bit loose otherwise the steering won't move. not a very good design. but it will do. handlebars/stem/steerer - designed to be collapsible easily, which is good, but there is also excessive play in this as well. it will do but its not great. ------------------------------------------------------------------ Thoughts.... Because there is four wheels, I found that on uneven floors (just around the front room the floorboards were uneven enough) one wheel is often off the ground a tiny bit. This would be solved by having 3 wheels or tyres with a bit of give in them. I would not want to keep any of the wheels. I would want to replace the front wheels with something a bit wider softer and grippier. like scooter wheels or MTB wheels. Brakes - the center of gravity is quite far forward. if it had brakes only on the front then i feel like it might tip over. then again, with the weight of the frame, the motor, batteries and person, maybe not. I will do some testing. Motors - Golden has the 8" single sided solid tyre motors that would be the easiest conversion, but I don't like the solid tyres and I don't like having 2 wheels at the back. I already ran into my foot. There is also the 8" double sided solid tire. This is not so easy either because it is the same size as the existing wheels therefore the axle would want to go exactly where the existing axles join. Could be done with cutting and welding but would be a pain, plus you still have the solid tire etc. I held up a 12" dinner plate and I reckon it would not look so bad actually. I will take some pics tomorrow. It looks like we would need to cut off a bit of the back section and weld on some dropouts, a bit higher up and further in than the existing axle mounts.. It looks like it will fit under the knee platform ok as well. Controller - because we may well end up with a motor that is not exactly right for the job, I think its all the more important we get a controller with some intelligence. Something programmable where we can set a low voltage, top speed etc. This leads us back to the GM controller, Lyens mini monster, or......I just thought, hmmm the kelly controllers are programmable - well they do a little controller that might be up for the job as well. In fact it looks the most programmable one so far. It is the mini one next to the coke can here: Hub & Wheel Motor Controller | EV Parts They have one that does 12-24v for $79 or $99 depending on max amps. You can get it waterproof for an extra $19 http://kellycontroller.com/kbs2405120a1 ... p-499.html It is fully programmable, see the software screenshots and manual here: Kelly KBS controllers online demo/help-Kelly Controls, LLC http://kellycontroller.com/mot/download ... Manual.pdf You need a serial port on your computer to program it, if you don't have one you need a serial to USB converter. They sell one for $29. Kelly are good controllers. I never thought of them until just now - I usually associate them with high power controllers for cars and motorbikes. When I used to work at Sevcon (who make argubaly the best...and most expensive...controllers you can get.)....kelly was one of the few competitors we kept an eye on. If you look at the setup software, you can fine tune min throttle, max throttle, max amps, max speed, all kinds of things. It will be just the ticket for fine tuning. --------------------------------------------------------------------- So........... This would be my personal plan right now - Electronics: $115 Motor - MW12B (GM) $98 kelly controller waterproofed $29 Serial RS232 to USB converter (from kelly) $20 throttle (max) $20 ebrake lever (max) $50 wiring, connectors, etc -------- $332 Frame / Fabrication: $50 old steel bike to steal dropouts off (maximum, probably less from craigslist or a garage sale) $150 to pay someone to weld the dropouts on and maybe brake caliper mounts plus machine front wheel mounts if necessary for new wheels (maximum) $50 (max) 2 front wheels MTB or scooter 8 inch with pneumatic tyres. $30 (max) new axles, bolts, washers etc $30 box for battery plus mounting bolts etc $50 (max) for respray or powdercoat frame (will be messy after welding. something to put the battery in ----------------------- $360 Brakes $20 (max) brake disk for rear plus screw on adapter for rear hub Brake discs $40 (max) brake caliper (cable ok, hydraulic not needed) $50 bolt on brake caliper mount (seen them somewhere but can't find right now) price is a guess. --------------------------- $110 Battery depends. I am clueless as to the requirements of this system. I can test with my own batteries once it is setup. Then we will know, but at a minimum you will be talking about 18 or 24v 10 amp hour. That is : $199 from ping
