Greasemonkey script "all comments"

I created a very basic greasemonkey script that adds a "all comments" link just below the normal "add comments" button. When you click it the page will reload and all comments (up to 2000), not just 50 at a time, will be displayed. Script simply appends "?&sort;=NEWEST&limit;=2000&offset;=2000" to the end of the URL. This should making searching through comments with "ctrl+F" much more useful. Note that the page reload might take a while if there are a lot of comments. I am a copy paste coder, this works on my machine(xp with FF3.5) and my account, you however are on your own. If your computer explodes and the internet breaks after you install this, I'm very sorry. When you download this file you will get a .tmp file. Rename it to whatever.user.js, the only important part is that it end in user.js. Next, right click on whatever.user.js and choose open with firefox, you can then install it in the browser. Update--Works in Chrome. Follow the same renaming steps as above, then simply drag it into an open chrome browser window. Chrome will give you the generic warning, just click "continue" to install.

Greasemonkey Script: Quick Contest Voting!

For those who are having trouble voting for contests because of the sheer number of entries, I've written this little guy to aid you in your sacred duty. First, you'll need to:Install ScriptThen, head on over to a [/contest/bookcontest/?show=ENTRIES&sort;=RATING page like this], and you'll see 40 entries with a separator half-way down. This shows the script is working. It will *not* work on any page other than page 1. To use it, start rating! After you've rated the first 20 and hit the "barrier", press the button and start rating the bottom set. By the time that you've finished those, the top set will have finished loading. (Don't forget to press the button again!) Overall, this will save hours* waiting for the page to load. So, what are you waiting for? Install ScriptNote: This script is pretty much in an "alpha" stage. Sorry if it leaks or causes terrible hurricanes to come and devour your toes mm... tasty. Also, I'm just throwing this forum post up to make the script public, I'll revise it with a bit more instruction once I'm not so tired. ;-)

Who wants to test a new GM Script?

I've been working on this new Greasemonkey script that, IMO, is a lot better than the others. It allows you to rate comments. Your ratings aren't for your own benefit alone: they're stored on a server where they are mashed together with everyone else's to create a full-blown rating system! And, I'm using Google App Engine as a backend, so there won't be any server downtime! For this, you actually have to do a little sign-up procedure. Go here, & put in your username. You'll then have to post a comment*, and then you can get the script. This makes sure that one user can't cheat the system by having 100 accounts. From there, its pretty easy to use. Next to the username, 5 pseudo-boxes will appear. Use them as follows:[!] - This comment answered the question in the topic (use sparingly)[+] - Positive vote[-] - Negative vote[x] - Remove your vote[?] - HelpIf you run across any bugs, or have any suggestions, please let me know. I'll be glad to hear them! From there, if I do fix a bug, here's the best part: you usually don't have to update anything! It will automagically use the newer version. In the future, I may require you to manually update, but there is a notifier in place, and yet it is very unlikely that it will be needed.

GreaseMonkey Script for Instructables - Auto-All Steps - Download it Now!

I whipped this up, still needs work, but it works (sorta)...You can download it hereNow, on the Explore pages, it will automatically take you to All Steps instead of the Intro step when you click on a link.I'm considering this open-source, so PLEASE post modifications, again I literally spent 2 minutes on this - including debug/testing time.I know you are saying "duh its open source, its a script! moron" But what I mean is that I am encouraging modifications.Code below if my server is down // ==UserScript==// @name Instructables "All Steps" Fixer// @namespace https://www.instructables.com/tag/type:instructable/*// @description Automatically loads All Steps instead of the Intro only// @include https://www.instructables.com/tag/type:instructable/*// ==/UserScript==//Made by Zachninme//Although this is open-source, always leave the above line intact. Thanks.var allLinks, thisLink;allLinks = document.evaluate( '//a[@href]', document, null, XPathResult.UNORDERED_NODE_SNAPSHOT_TYPE, null);for (var i = 0; i < allLinks.snapshotLength; i++) { thisLink = allLinks.snapshotItem(i); if (thisLink.href.match(/\?/i)) { } else { thisLink.href += '?ALLSTEPS'; }}(I have zachninme.com registered, but it isn't working right... *sigh*)

How can I make this page load without the check box marked by default? Answered

So, I use Hotmail. When I load it on my laptop, this is what I see. Is there a way to make it so that it is not checked by default when I load the page? It's frustrating to have to un-check it every time I check my e-mail. Piggyback question, while we're griping about Windows live... When I sign out of my e-mail, it redirects me to MSN.com, where I'll type Instructables into the URL bar. Usually while I'm typing up there, the page steals the cursor and puts it on the Bing search bar. Suddenly I've got Bing searching for "tructables," and I'm wondering if Instructables has been deleted. AGGGH! I hate Bing! Is there some sort of Greasemonkey script I can use to keep it from pilfering my cursor?

Question by V-Man737 | last reply

What are the pros and cons of using Skimlinks (redirectingat.com)?

After reading what the company says about itself, I am interested inwhat customers have to say about its ease of use and profitability, andwhether it is worthwhile for viewers to have Proxomitron or Greasemonkey erase references to skimlinks.js(I'll put one item in the "cons" myself. The web filter at this community college marked it as a high threat and "web security violation". But that may simply be an overzealous response by Trend Micro.)

Skate was right. Yeah.

Skate was right. Firefox PWNS. I got fed up with chrome. I love it in many ways, but it's just too buggy and slim on features. I'm still using it sometimes, to help beta test it and all, but my heart belongs to another. So I downloaded FF the other day, and am installing addons like a madwoman. Greasemonkey (the comment rater script! No knex! No yarn!), themes, games, rss feeds-it's like a whole new dimension to the internet. It does run better in vista though-still slow on my XP machine. I should have listened to you earlier, skate!

Remove the *entire* instructables header, NOT just graphics

As requested by https://www.instructables.com/member/weblionx/. No, I don't know why either. But hey, who am I to judge? You need greasemonkey and, optionally for firefox, the stylish addon. Install and enable the following scripts:http://userstyles.org/styles/15029http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/59367Please note, you will need to either stay logged in all the time (so keep cookies on!) or else disable these scripts to be able to login, use the forums, and upload new instructables and the like, unless you type the urls directly - laborious! Please let me know of any bugs.

Comment Tree Userscript

Discontinued, has been replaced with Instructables Enhancer Hey, still remember back in the day when on 'ibles there were comment trees? Did you also wish to get the nice old comment trees back? Well, as of now it is possible! I made a userscript that'll give you back the good old comment trees! Please keep in mind that it is still in the beta phases and thus has bugs. Anyways, here's the script: http://pastebin.com/au4rpH7T To install it downlaod a userscript plugin (chrome: tampermonkey, firefox: greasemonkey) and copy-paste that code in that pastebin as a new userscript. Make sure that the userscript is active on https://www.instructables.com/* Please report any bugs you find! Known bugs NONE!

Filtering?

There has got to be a way to filter the new items or searches because it's getting ridiculous. I was just on the new featured instructables and out of the 30 on the first page there were 10 food related, 2 toy related and 2 jewelry related. There were others I'm not interested in but come on.... Toys? Jewelry? FOOD?!?! Especially food. Shouldn't they be on a food site? I don't see how they really belong on a DIY site. I will probably have to live with that but isn't there some way I can filter these things out? I tried using a minus -food in the search box and it returned ONLY food articles. I also found another question similar to mine that required using Greasemonkey add-on which I installed but the link to the java script file it needs doesn't work anymore. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Question about the New Editor that is driving me crazy: ''since I seem to have all the ODDball problems with the forums :-) ...''

For the past week or so, I have posted a few times that I was having difficulties bringing up the "new" editor. It would error out. I "believe" I have traced it to one of the old greaseMonkey scripts I have installed (I have one installed for IE, and one for FF, which also serves Flock. It seems to be the only thing that has been changed (except for the newest upgrade of FF) that could be causing the problem. (there is another thing being caused; if I do a "comment" search, the comments come up that are found, for about 2 seconds, then they are turned into blank boxes *shrug*). Is there a procedure to "uninstall" the scripts, or will deleting them fix it?

Writing a useful bug report

From time to time, people have trouble with the Instructables site. Often they have found a bug that we need to fix. If this happens to you, here's how to tell us so we can fix it as soon as possible.Search!A lot of times the bug you found has been reported already. Do a quick search in the bug forums to see if you can find an existing report. There may be a workaround that someone has posted, or an estimated fix time. If it's already been reported, go ahead and comment on that rather than making a new report.Check, as well, if the problem is something on your system that we can't do anything about. For example, Firefox users may have installed the Greasemonkey extension, and some Greasemonkey scripts cause unexpected behavior on Instructables.Details!Provide a lot of information, including:the OS and browser you're usinga link to the page you were on, and/or the page before, where things were still OKthe error message you got, if any (copy/paste if possible)anything else you can think of that seems relevantProcess! In order to fix the problem, we have to be able to see it happen - we have to be able to reproduce it. Write a step-by-step list of the things you did to get the problem. If you don't remember exactly, try doing what you were doing again, slowly, to get the bug a second time. If you can't get it to happen again, we probably won't be able to get it to happen either. Sad but true.Patience! Some bugs may take a while to fix, either because they're very difficult, or because other bugs and features are higher priority. In general, if you can't do something you should be able to do, we'll fix it as soon as possible. Things that just look weird, or have alternate ways to be done, we'll fix later.

Captcha Troubles - Read me!

November 14, 2013 We're currently dealing with the known (and serious) problem of the Captcha no appearing correctly, this is a site-wide issue affecting many members. While we fix things on our end, you may be able to get the Captcha to appear by: Ensuring you have all script-blocking add-ons disabled (like AdBlock, GreaseMonkey, or LastPass). Make sure you have cookies enabled for Instructables.com, then clear your browser cache. Log in and refresh the page and try leaving a comment or publish a project and see if you can get the Captcha puzzle-box to appear. Another option is to make sure your browser zoom is set to default (ctrl+0 / Apple key + 0), as sometimes the Captcha window is hiding behind another field on the page. If none of that works please know we are furiously trying to nail down this bug so that you can continue enjoying our site and sharing your projects. We'll post an update here when we've fixed this problem. Please use this forum topic to document your experience and share with us (all other topics regarding this bug have been locked) Sorry for the delay, guys.

Change instructables header from orange! Update 4

(Made new topic because old one was getting crowded and ugly)Yes, folks, the moment we've all been waiting for...you can customize the header at long last! For years the instructables header has been full of orangey goodness. Maybe a little too much orangey goodness. When I first saw the site, I thought, "Huh. It's February. A little early for halloween...". No lie. When I realized it's like this all the time, I realized something had to be done. I finally got around to sitting down and once and for all giving full control of the header to the user. No more header screaming ORANGE ORANGE ORANGE and pounding you over the head with shocking vibrant hues until you die. No more co-workers saying "are you on instructables again?! " Yes folks, the header is in your control! Yellow! Green! Invisible! Lots more! Links are all black, to avoid conflict with buttons and such. Link colors (and header color) are easily edited. To install, Firefox users can just install this addon and load the ClearHeader style. However, that's not the only way to install. Firefox users can use greasemonkey if you want.
