Half broken monitor

I recently bought a 19 inch LCD monitor for 40 bucks (used). It works perfectly for about half an hour (i havn't timed it) and then the screen just goes blank. If i turn it off and then back on it works for a couple of seconds then it turns back off. If I let it be for a while (like an hour or just when I'm not using my computer) it works fine for another half hour. Is this an overheating problem or what is going on?

An hour and a half gone.

I just lost an hour and a half of work, because I trusted this website a little too much.  I was starting up some directions for a project I want to do, and my computer lost the wireless connection. I clicked "save," and the page did two things. First, it completely crashed, saying it could not update. Two, this idiotic "Updating" frame came up, that BLOCKED me from being able to copy and paste the material that took all that time to put together. I know you guys can't control everything, and that it's not your fault my wireless router is stupid, but you really, REALLY need to get rid of that "Updating" splash that blocks us from being able to access what we just wrote.  I know now I'll get comments on here saying, "You should save more often, moron." Yes. I should have. I should have written it first in Word as well. In fact, there's a lot of things I should have done. I guess I'm spoiled by autosave utilities.

Half Inch CRT Monitror

I was tearing apart an old VHS camera and decided to rip the LCD out of the viewfinder. Much to my suprise I find a CRT monitor not a LCD! This screen is about 1/2 inch. It has a 5 pin connector that leads to the motherboard and a chip on the bottom that says A118121. Obviously two of the conections would be V+ and ground, but what about the other three? I would like to turn this into a composite or VGA compatible screen (maybe even a crazy tiny oscilloscope) but I need some help. Any suggestions or leads would be greatly appreciated.

Operating a transformer at half the voltage? Answered

What could be the effects of the output when operating a transformer at half its rated voltage, specifically to the amperage? as two examples: If I had a transformer rated for an input of 240v and an output of 20A at 24v and I was to supply the primary with 120v, what would happen to the output? If I had a variac (autotransformer, variable transformer, ect.) and it was rated for an input of 240v with an output of 0-260v at 11A, what would happen to the output ratings at only 120v?

Half-Wave Rectifier Question?

Hello Everyone, Well, I built a half-wave rectifier using a diode and a resistor, but it doesn't seem to be working as I want. I'm thinking of adding a capacitor to help smooth out the wave, but my whole purpose was to produce a pulse of energy at 60Hz. Basically, to just chop off the lower half of the sine wave. For my diode I used a 1N5406 rated at 600V and 3 amps. The resistors are rated at 20 watts and the whole thing just plugs into the electric outlet. It seems to work ok, but when I take this rectified output and put it into a transformer to step it up to around 1000V thats when I have a problem. After its stepped up its supposed to charge a small capacitor from which the electricity (when built up) will jump across a small spark gap. The spark gap is adjusted correctly, but he capacitor doesn't seem to like to charge on this wave. Its rated 2KV so voltage isn't the problem. The problem is that it will fire once, but not repeat the cycle.  (The transformer shouldn't be the problem because I'm pulsing the dc) Any Ideas? Thanks

Ideas, half-formed or otherwise.

So i looked at the Luchador Mask, made from re-cycled shoes and caught myself considering the issue of a steel helmet. It'd be tricky for me to pull it off, of course, but i reckon i could.Same with the lost-wax casting i promised ages ago, and didn't get round to.I DO plan to do both of them some day, and the skittles gun, too....But anyway, who else has mooted instructables to publish, only to skip out at the last moment? Who's got what planned?I appreciate the need of some people to keep things secret, if they've got new and revolutionary projects, by the way, but i'm still asking.

PC half dead - not good

Machine will not POST - no beep, BIOS smart fan-control not engaging, PS2 keyboard has no power, monitor reads "no signal" Board does have power - things spin (like the CPU fan which shouldn't until it gets hot) Preceding clues(?) - I thought I'd developed tinnitus, but found it was the PSU (I think) making a high-pitched ringing noise, half the day unplugged and that seemed to go away. Display not engaging properly on start-up: If I waited until the machine got to Windows login and then switch the monitor on - no problem. Switching the monitor on before this point - black sort of standby mode. I think I might try the PSU first, then think about the mainboard. So far I've plugeed and re-plugged things, tried with 0,1 & 2 strips of RAM with no difference. Any suggestions welcome I spent a lot of time replacing 1 cap' in the PSU, then I replaced the PSU (logic being that if I've tampered with it an the thing still doesn't work I should replace it regardless) Then I bought a new board. I was a bloody-sod, CD/DVD still doesn't work... L

Cut Plastic bottle in half, then reattach.

Heyah, So yeah....for a project i'm working on I would like to cut a plastic(coke cola) bottle in half, then put some stuff inside, reattach the 2 half's together, then fill it with a liquid.(Don't ask) My first attempt I used hot glue, but sadly the plastic is super sensitive to heat it would seem and it just simply melted the plastic so I wasn't able to seal it.  I tried to even let the glue cool down, then apply it but that didn't work either. Any ideas?

Modding a clock to run at half speed (resolved)

I want to make a clock that runs at half speed, or atleast is slowed down. Is this possible to make with resistors or do I need to make twice as large gears to make it slow?Obviously, the first idea is to prefer over the ladder. I've managed to get my hands on the circuit board that produces the hertz pulse, and also a blueprint that shows that if you put a 1k resistor on the input, it still beats at 1hz. Should you maybe put a resistor on the other end, the output? And how big of a resistance should I use?(It also shows two diods, which are added, which is used to light up a LED)Pictures from JosePinoI appreciate the help, thanks!RESOLVED: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BMtoBKAzhgA

Pedal-powered airship gets half way...

A French amateur pilot's attempt to be the first to cross the channel on a pedal-propelled airship has failed.Stephane Rousson, 39, from Nice, took off from Hythe on the Kent coast at about 0800 BST and was half-way to the French coast by 1300 BST.But he was hampered by a change in the wind direction and called off the trip 11 miles from Wissant in France.Mr Rousson said: "I'm not disappointed. I feel happy because it had nothing to do with any technical failure."During the challenge, Mr Rousson was suspended underneath the balloon envelope in a carbon fibre gondola, powering the two propellers with his feet using a bicycle-like contraption. The most amusing thing about the whole trip is the safety system:Just in case Rousson found himself flying irretrievably high, he hung an open penknife from the gondola framework, with the intention of popping the balloon and heading for a splashdown.Sorry, that's the second most amusing thing. The most amusing thing is the pilot's childhood inspiration - ET.BBC article

Half bridge in "A reliable plasma speaker doesn't work"?

Hi! I am a  student and I just started to make my first half-bridge plasma speaker, and I used the schemetic in https://www.instructables.com/id/A-reliable-plasma-speaker/ However, after I finished, it didn't work. I used an oscilloscope and I found the VGS of high side MOSFET was between -3 and -6, and the low side was between 12 and 0. Then I accidentally got it work, but the MOSFETs were very hot, and then they exploded. After I change the MOSFETS, it had the same problem as before again. But if I short the capacitors, the wave form for both the high and the low were correct. can anybody explain why? Thanks.
