Sedge Hat

I would love to see some instructables on making traditional Asian headwear such as sugegasa (sedge hats) and booshi from properly gathering and preparing the materials to actually constructing the hat.  I am particularly interested in seeing how a sugegasa is constructed with an appropriate interior (the straw/bamboo is not supposed to rest directly on the head).

Bird Hat!

Check out this fantastic hat, made of felt with a little birds-nest hole in it, complete with bird! There's a magnet in the bird and the nest area to keep it from falling out accidentally. I love this.

Jayne's Hat

Hello! So i want to make a hat like what Jayne Recieves from his mom in the show Firefly. If anyone has seen or is in love with this show, it is something that a guy would want to make. I do a lot of sewing, but have only knit once (a while ago) and am willing to learn to Crotchet. If anyone could check out the hat and provide some opinions on which is best (knit versus crochet), patterns, hints, or maybe post an instructable that would be incredible. There are some places where you can buy them (namely Etsy), but i find more joy in making it. Any takers?

The man in the hat...

I just had a sort out, and collected all my Pratchett books into one place. I got a shock.I have seventy-six Pratchett books, most hardback (Except for Faust Eric, which never came in a hardback), many first editions, and forty-nine of them signed by Terry!.Yet I don't consider myself a Pratchett-nerd, or even particularly a collector, since I don't collect the stamps, I only have a couple of tee-shirts, and I haven't been in any of his books*.Anybody else got similarly famous non-collections?*I have a friend who paid several thousand pounds to charity for his partner to appear as a character in Night Watch.

Looking for design help for ten folded paper hat patterns. ?

I can follow folding directions, but lack the three dimensional skills to come up with the actual pattern to follow. I have photos of of some hats already constucted. I would like to express thanks for help on this project with some kind of reimbursment, but since I am a newbie to Instructables, I don't know what is appropriate. Thanks!

fabric glue and gore-tex?

Greetings all, I just aquired a rather expensive hat, however, being the kind of person who reads instructables on a regular schedule, I want to improve it by adding several pieces of velcro, that I may attach various useful or decorative objects to it.I don't wish to sew it because,A: I'm terrible at sewing.B: the hat has an inner lining, and I don't want to attach both layers together.so this leaves glue, I was wondering if there were any experts on here with knowledge of fabrics and fabric glue.what kinds are there?what kind should I use?will fabric glue makegore-tex melt? catch fire? acquire magic powers and cause amphibians to sing?

THE *COOL* COOLING HAT

Ok I had an idea... Yesterday while I was taking processors off of motherboards.... I found a rather normal looking heat sink. and droped it on my hat. By now you have probably figured it out that I have a messy room and I want to make a cool(ing) hat. So I am thinking of running a little pump (very little) and fan off of 1-2 9v batteries. Some Kind of coolant (water) and a couple of prototypes And I will have a cooling hat.... (YES PEOPLE I REALIZE ITS WINTER!!! (where I live)) Any ideas ?

Waterproofing a leather hat?

My day-to-day hat is a leather fedora. Most of the time, it's great, but it does leak through the crown if I'm out in heavy rain for more than, say, 30-45 minutes. This isn't normally a huge problem, since I'm not often out in heavy rain that long that often, but it is a problem on a wet camp, when I'm outdoors all day. Unfortunately, I can't polish it, as the finish is matt, borderline suede. Any ideas, folks?

Cleaning a canvas hat.? Answered

Hi Folks. I have a favorite hat made by Panama Jack I wear a good deal in the summer however I have noticed it has become more than a little grubby. I contacted the manufacturers & I have to say I was surprised that they were not very much help, I guess in the litigious world we seem to live in they are worried that if i damage my property because I followed their suggestions I may demand a replacement or sue them for damages. Anyway does anyone have any suggestions? The hat is stiffened canvas so obviously I don't want to do anything that would cause it to soften & loose its shape unless I can re-stiffen or starch it to regain the shape. I promise I won't sue if your suggestion causes any damage :-)

Tesla Coil Hat

Tyler Christensen, or christensent of MITERS, the MIT Electronic Research Society, took a more high-voltage approach to Halloween this year.  He made this awesome dual resonant solid state tesla coil (DRSSTC) hat! Last year he was responsible for the "Build a Fusion Reactor" Instructable.  This year, his likeness to a mad scientist seems to be increasing!  How long before we see him splice a tesla coil and a human?! Carmen Miranda Hat

I am attempting to be Carmen Miranda for Halloween, and there is surprisingly very little on the inter-webs on how to make a Carmen Miranda hat.  I am thinking about trying to paper mache a base, something that resembles a witch hat, from which I can glue/wire fruit on it, and wrap a scarf around the base. But I am worried that this will be too flimsy and/or not stay on my head. Can anyone think of a good base that I could potentially buy from a craft store, or Halloween store? I was thinking a Dunce hat, but I think that could be too high.  Any feedback would be appreciated.  Thanks, M PS. I am anti chin-strap.  http://www.google.com/imgres?q=carmen+miranda+hat+bananas+is+my+business&um;=1&hl;=en&biw;=1280&bih;=685&tbm;=isch&tbnid;=1rub9hupw3iUnM:&imgrefurl;=http://www.frankly-my-dear.net/%3Fp%3D1755&docid;=dTe877k4Z4IWYM&imgurl;=http://www.frankly-my-dear.net/wp-content/uploads/2011/04/carmen-miranda.jpg&w;=260&h;=475&ei;=DJCYToeBOM-NsALXhaysBA&zoom;=1&iact;=rc&dur;=186&sig;=118241885992139910113&page;=1&tbnh;=156&tbnw;=86&start;=0&ndsp;=20&ved;=1t:429,r:0,s:0&tx;=28&ty;=90

Recycled Polartec Fleece Hats

Over at the Mouse Works, Ryan Williamson hand-makes a variety of hats with recycled Polartec fleece he gets from local factories. His designs are pretty whimsical. One of my favorites is this bear design. I'm not too into the long tail designs, but there are plenty more to choose from. It's always good to see someone who turned a passion into a small business. Extravagant Couture Hats by Philip Treacy

I was watching project runway last night and in a sneak peak for next weeks episode I saw that designer Philip Treacy will be guest judging.  I decided to google him and thought his extravagant couture hats were worth mentioning! I am not surprised that he has designed hats for Lady Gaga and Sarah Jessica Parker two fashionistas daring enough to push the boundaries of fashion.

HATZ

So, some people like wearing and/or collecting hats. Show us your headgear! Here are my favorite hats. The first is an Indiana Jones fedora, the second a NZ made oilskin, and the last is a circa 1989 Soviet Air Force officer's hat. I'm in the market for a leather pilot cap...

How to get In-ear headphones from slipping out.? Answered

I have a pair of Skullcandy headphones. They used to stay in my ears when pulled on, and just when wearing them. Now they always fall out. When I'm sitting or standing up, All the time. When I Absolutely needed to use them I would wear some kind of stretchy, over the ears hat. But I don't like wearing the hats all the time. Is there a way I can fix this without getting some new tips?

Does anyone here know about vintage hats/caps?

You know those caps they had back in the 20s and 30s, the ones where the top would kinda hang out over the bill, kinda like the one in the pic, but not exactly. Well, does anybody know how to make one? If you can make one, then please post an I'ble, 'cause I've been needing one for a while and can't find any. By the way, the one on the right is sideways, incase of any confusion. I was kicked off of Yahoo! Answers today. I never realized how much of a slave I was to them. You Instructables people are smarter. I am leaving Yahoo! I have switched over to my Gmail account, and I'm happy. I've asked about this cap on Yahoo, and never got an answer. But you guys/gals are smarter and craftier, and I can actually go a good while on here without calling someone an idiot, unlike Yahoo. Well, have fun crocheting, knitting or sewing a cap from the long ago(if you'd like to).

How to sew a sweatband into a hat?

My hat has a sweatband and i think it's a leather band but i'm not sure. My question is: What kind of thread should i use to sew the sweatband and hat back together? The sweatband is coming loose and i want to fix it without using glue, so i need to know what thread to use. Thanks. My hat has hushpuppy inside the top. In the first picture i've attached you can see the band is detached, and i don't know if you can, but in the second picture you should be able to see parts of the logo. Thanks again

Staining a paper straw hat

Hi all. I was recently returned a hat I bought for my ex, it was one of those "I'd like that" moments where I spent a few pounds on something that she changed her mind about before it arrived and has never been worn since, it's not a particularly expensive hat but it is a unisex style essentially just a white straw cowboy style hat in fact I have a similar one in brown. Not being a great lover of white hats I would like to stain it a different colour but as I have never stained paper straw I have no real idea of how best to begin. Suggestions from anyone with experience of this material would be very welcome. Thanks in advance. NG.

Inspector gadget heli-hat

Hey all, So this year I am going as Inspector Gadget for Halloween and wanted to do my best to have a couple functioning gizmos. The piece I'm focusing on for now is the trademark helicopter that comes out of his hat. I just want the blades to move. Preferably it would be something with an on/off switch (I'm thinking a toggle with strings or something that lead down the handles). Unfortunately I have little small motor experience and I don't know where to start. I know this wouldn't be a very difficult thing for a seasoned person, so I was hoping to get a little direction. Thanks a bunch!

How can I hang / organize / display a LOT of ballcaps on a flat space of wall?

I need a way to hang 40 -50ish ball caps on a flat space of wall. Three people access these hats daily. I don't want to use pushpins because they can pull out when a hat is removed. I was using an old accordion coffee mug holder, which is nice because it only requires a few holes in the wall, but we've way outgrown that and it's not great looking either.

Can someone make an ible on how to pick a hat that looks good on you?

My new avatar notwithstanding, I can never pick out a hat in real life. Every hat I try on is either too big for my face, or makes my head look weird. I know that girls can look awesome in a tasteful hat, but there must be some trick I'm missing. Do you go according to face shape? Age? Size? Can someone make an ible on how to pick a hat (like a straw-cowboy-fedora type hat...not a SISSY hat) ? Please?
