Quadcopter Build Check? Answered

I have recently researched and picked out parts for an entire quadcopter build. Would someone be able to tell me if all of these parts will be OK for a quadcopter build in terms of a.) if the parts will work together (I believe they will, but I am not 100% sure) and b.) if I will be able to do FPV with a Mobius Action Cam. Any and all help is appreciated, thank you in advance! (If I am missing anything important on the list please let me know also). Frame: I will be building one out of lightweight wood. LiPoly charging question?

Hi Everyone, I am creating a 6 cell pack (first time as you can tell) of LiPoly batteries 14.8V 5A it will have 3 groups in series of 2 in parallel for a 44.4V 10A pack. In order to properly charge and maintain the batteries does anyone have any recommendations for a good balance charger from hobbyking or elsewhere? Also in order to properly charge them should I charge each of the 6 cells individually, or charge the 3 packs of 2 in parallel using these?  Thanks for your help.

Having doubts about buying online stuff. Help!I

I know I know... stupid question, everyone buys online but the thing is that I'm from Mexico. For example, I want to order the following list of items: http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_wishListPublic.asp?email=breck@alias-i.com&idCustomer;=106965 But HobbyKing is in HK, a loong way and I'm afraid that the stupid mexican customs office retains for whatever reason my package and 1. I'll have to pay some MORE money to get my package, or 2. They think it's for selling or arming a nuclear bomb and retain it forever. I don't want to waste my money. Thanks for your time and kind response. Have a great day!

Heavy aerial lift quadcopter?

Hi, I am in a local competition where they are asking for a quadcopter that can lift a box of lead. The box weigh's 25kg. Yes, you read that right 25 kg. The rules state that it must be a quadcopter and it must fit in a meter by meter by meter cube. This limits the prop size to 500mm diameter unless the height of the blades is different so they overlap. I would prefer not to do this. each rotor must lift 7000 grams (payload + weight of quad). I have been using this thrust calculator : http://personal.osi.hu/fuzesisz/strc_eng/ and according to it a 500mm (20") at 4.5" pitch (I just put that as standard) will need to spin at 6000 RPM to produce 7.12 kg of thrust. It also says it will need an 800 Watt motor. I plan on using these motors http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__24433__NTM_Rotor_Drive_450_Series_1700KV_930W.html. They are 930 watts and 1700kv. they run on a 6s lipo. A 6s lipo is 22.2 volts. 22.2 X 1700 = 37,740. 37,740 RPM is the theoretical speed of the motor. I only need 6000 RPM. 37,740 / 6000 = about 6. so the motor has an 8 tooth gear on it and the prop has a 42 tooth gear on it. This makes a roughly 6:1 ratio to slow down and power up the rotor. The motor is 30A constant current, 42A burst. The ESC will be this one http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__25366__Turnigy_Multistar_45_Amp_Multi_rotor_Brushless_ESC_2_6S.html and the battery will be this two of these: http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__9176__Turnigy_5000mAh_6S_20C_Lipo_Pack.html.          When I started writing this I had a question that I answered myself but now I just want to know if you see any faults with this. PS, the winner of the competition is the one who can hover the longest. I also want to do it for as cheap as possible

Arduino Motor Shield Question

Hey, I'm looking to build an RC boat using an arduino uno and a motor shield. My motor shield power source is an 18v dewalt drill battery. I want to use this motor : http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__8595__2040SL_4800kv_Brushless_Inrunner_WaterCooled_.html but the max voltage is 11. How can I compensate for that? Could I just turn down the PWM? a resistor maybe? Thanks for the help, -Ian

I was reading through the tech contest rules and saw this. My question is can i include picture such as this one in my ible if its entered in a contest? Also i my most current ible is a race car and all race cars have to be sponsored. so i was going to but hobbyking decals on it but I am not sure if doing so will disqualify me from the contests? how do you get from Ampere to Ampere hours? Answered

I know, basically it's not too diffy. I checked wikipedia and in the end i get to Coulomb, but the information i need is: i wanna build these cat-ears: https://www.instructables.com/id/Animatronic-Cat-Ears and as material one needs a LiPo battery - the guy says "anything that will be able to supply 3A worth of current" and links to a 800mAh-battery at hobbyking. I first bought a battery with 4000mAh, say a battery that gives 4A per hour, but the one i got is quite heavy and i doubt that it's a good idea to use it in this light-weighted project - so how the hell did that guy get from a 800mAH-battery to the 3A worth of current? How do i calculate this way?

Mast head amplifier on FPV? Sounds crazy right! Answered

Hi i have been looking at buying this > http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__16457__900MHZ_1500mW_Tx_Rx_1_3_inch_CCD_Camera_PAL_520TVL.html but i thought it might not be very good signal if not i was also thinking of buying something like this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Vision-27dB-VHF-UHF-Masthead-Amplifier-Booster-TV-/220918608294?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash;=item336fc671a6 It is 900 mhz so i think it is just crazy enough to work i also happen to have an old mast head amp power supply just laying around gathering dust. I'm not bothered about spending 6 quid just to try it out but what i was worried about was feedback from the PSU to the reviver I mean I don't want to blow it on day one how could i stop this and would it be a problem in the first place?

electric micro kart

I want to build a micro kart with a range of 10 miles at an average speed of about 5mph, with a reverse function. Iv been looking at blogs and Instructables for micro karts and DIY electric longboards hoping to directly copy the basic components of another project however all the projects iv found are for high speed machines that often need a bump/kick start and i need something that will happily run at consistently low speeds without an assisted start. I don't have the electronics knowhow to work out what combination of motor, battery and ESC i need but from what iv read it sounds like i might need an outrunner (?) type motor which is apparently good for low speeds and high torque. Iv been looking at the Turnigy motors on the Hobbyking website as they were recommended by a few blogs, i tried posting this question on their forums a week ago but got zero response. Could you take a look at their motor selection and recommend the appropriate combination of parts? Thanks

Electric Mountainboard Build? Answered

Hey guys I am planning on building a semi cheap electric mountainboard. I would like 20+mph(25?) and am thinking that this is what i will need: Board: http://www.amazon.com/ATOM-91115-Atom-90-MountainBoard/dp/B002ZFBYYY/ref=sr_1_1?s=sporting-goods&ie;=UTF8&qid;=1315867971&sr;=1-1 Motor: http://www.batteryspace.com/DC-Motor-Heavy-Duty-24V-DC-Motor-750W-2600RPM-28A-rate.aspx ESC: Im not sure on this one, HELP! I would like a rc esc not a scooter controller. Batteries: 2x http://www.batteryspace.com/nimhrechargeablecellcsize12v5000mahwithtabs10pcs.aspx OR 2x http://www.batteryspace.com/sealedleadacidbattery12v75ah20hrsforupsseascooterande-bikes.aspx Transmitter/reciever: http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__10608__Hobby_King_GT_2_2_4Ghz_2Ch_Tx_Rx_.html (Or something like this, I'd rather not buy from Japan for shipping costs.) Will a rc esc work and talk with my motor? They are both DC but idk if they will. I know battery type doesnt matter as long as the esc gets the power. So I was wondering if you could help me find a suitable brushed 24v 28a+ esc... Thanks I hope this will be a fun project!!

Hoe to 180 degrees servos, when they go only 160 !?

Hello instructables people! I have been trying for hours & hours, to solve a problem i have, with a couple of servos, and i hope that you will be able to help me understand how to solve that problem!   I have this robot, that i am trying to build, with an Arduino and 2 of the following servos:   http://hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=3714   When i move the mouse, i need both servos to move exactly the same direction and speed. This already works for me great, using a code i got here on Instructables! (https://www.instructables.com/id/Overview/).   The problem is, that 180 degrees, is critical for my robot, and i get only ~160 degrees...   I tried to use the same servos model, but converted to continuous rotation, but could not get the absolute movement and position sync accuracy, of both servos, in relation to one another, that i got with the non-continuous rotation servos.   So, i returned to the regular, unconverted servos, and purchased the following servo stretchers:   http://www.readymaderc.com/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath;=11_15&products;_id=171   But, when i connected these stretchers, between the Arduino signal and the servos, things did not get better, but worse, and the servos started jerking and hardly reacting to mouse movements.   I have been spending hours & hours, with no success and am quite desperate...   Can you please help me!   Thanks a lot!
