Free hot tub in Eastern Massachusetts

I have a 7 person hot tub with no pump and an undiscovered leak. Replace the pump and chase down the pipes. Repurpose the wood siding, cover or the shell. This creative community can surely find a use much better than the dump for this resource.

Solar Hot Water question - How can I control the temp of my hot tub when using a solar hot water heater set up?

I am building a solar hot water system for my hot tub. It will be independently plumbed to keep the original heater and pumps intact and operational. My question is, how can I get the solar system to turn on only when the hot tub is cooler than a certain tempurature and have it turn off if the water being returned from the solar system is colder than the hot tub's current temp? Any ideas would be appreciated!

What would be a good material to line a hot tub with?

Im working on building a hot tub near my house. Its going to be a pit with a layer of mud, clay and hay for some insulation as well as a solid wall for the tub. Now im just looking for a material for a lining on top of that. I've looked at cement and epoxy resins which both look like a tricky and expensive way to do it. Now im thinking I'm going to have to just use some plastic like visqueen or something but I'd like to see what the great instructable community has to brainstorm on the matter.       One thing to be taken into account is the fact that im building this hot tub 300 yards up a mountain so whatever materials I use must be able to fit in a 4X5 cart. I have pulleys and things to make weight not too much of a concern. Thanks for your help guys!

Desperatly seeking low temperature or power failure alarm for hot-tub. Any ideas on DIY or hacked comercial product?

I have a serious need for a sensor that either detects when my hot-tub temperature drops below a certain point, or when the electricity supplied to my hot tub is disconnected. A wireless remote alarm would be the best, but wired would also work. I found this need when the power to my hot tub failed and some of its plumbing froze. I am willing to use any microprocessor or even modify an existing device to fit my needs. The commercial versions are a little pricy for my budget. Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Is this a great place or what?

DIVERT EARWIGS FROM WHERE WE DRY OUR HOT TUB SWIM WEAR ?

Basically wife and I enjoy an evening hot tub dip, under a deciduous tree in a large garden. Then with robes on we drop the swim wear and hang it on a wall of our house to dry. The next morning my wife usually finds a resident earwig in her swim suit. I can only surmise the larger one piece suit holds more attractive moisture for the bug which would have to travel five feet up a newly painted lap siding wall to reach a pot-metal dual hook.  There are no night lights. We live at 5500' in a desert climate and the garden is automatically watered morning and evening three times a week My wife wont let me put a 24 volt charged tape because we watch grand children daily. What to do ?

12v solar to heat water

Im looking to install a hot water cylinder with a 12v immersion heater powered by solar panels(to add wind later) to my hot tub. the idea is to either heat the whole thing all the time or to at least reduce my power usage on the heat side of the running cost. has anyone done anything like this and have any advice? the basic install idea i have is, solar panel/s to a controller controller to a battery controller to immersion heater was also thinking of installing a normally open relay onto the stat of the heater so when it is at temp a fan heater would kick in, but that would be a later install if the water heating would work. any info would be great, if i get enough info i will be doing this and making it into an instructable to further help adopt this to work better. thanks....

Anyone know where I can get a low cost, low power(1) solar pump,

It will be used to pump hot tub water(salt) or glycol 9feet vertically, than through an accura radiator in a thermal box and return to tub or another exchanger in tub. I don't know what kind of backpressure I will experience but maybe 10psi? any guesses. Most pumps I see are about $100. I need a lower cost. Thanks good luck

I am looking for advice on thermoforming to make a soaking tub from a 55gal HDPE drum

I thought I could make an inexpensive soaking tub by just fitting up an open top 55 gal plastic drum, but my body will not quite fit when I try to sit in it. I just need a couple more inches for my knees. So after viewing a you-tube on how those barrels are made, I have thoughts that I might be able to re-thermo-form the barrel. The more I think about it, if successful, there are lots of uses. Someone posted that HDPE melts around 265F, so I figure that I could get that air temp easily with a hot air gun, possibly inside the barrel, then using a resealable lid, add air pressure to the barrel and surrounded it with a new rigid mold. If I could figure out how to intrude with parts of the rigid mold, I could even make a seat. As I am imagining, the closer I can get it to the shape of my body in a sitting position, the least amount of water I have to use to fill and heat. And then I could add spray foam to the outside for insulation. Does anyone out their have experience blow molding or other recommendations?

Laptop water cooler? Answered

Hello I have a laptop that gets hot while gaming and i don't have the money for a desktop right now. Basically my idea is to lay down 4 fans then i lay down a mesh sheet then a coil of copper pipe then a another mesh sheet then my laptop  The coils would go to a tub of slightly chilled water and be pumped though How well would this work, Is it possible? Portability is not an issue as i would have this mounted to a piece of wood by my desk Thanks, Kaden

Any ideas on how to create solid roof for steel framed gazebo?

Have one of those $180 steel framed, 10 x 10, two tier roof, gazebos that every retailer seems to sell now a days. (kind of like the one in the picture) Its perm attached over our hot tub. Problem is, the nylon top keeps deteriorating and then shreds and has to be replaced. Any ideas on a good, cheap or maybe recycled material, roof that would be permanent? (WI=Snow in winter, has to be strong enough for an occassional storm) And how to attach it maybe? Looking for a few brainstormed ideas because all I can think of is boring PLYWOOD! *GRIN*

Looking for a 12V solution to prevent another 12V circuit to power on -- Reverse relay

Hello, I have 2 separate 12 volt lighting systems in the yard.  One is a low-voltage garden lighting that illuminates paths, trees, and a hot tub shelter. The other is a security lighting system, a 12V system that lights 6 each 900 lumen flood lights powered by solar panels and batteries. Other than shine a flood light from the landscape light system at the security system light sensor, is there a relay I can install that prevents the security lights from powering on until the landscape lights turn off?  I guess I am thinking of the redneck version of the relay that puts generators into play when the power goes out. I want my yard to be friendly while the landscaping lights are on, but we dont need a soccer pitch until the guests go home. Kind of like a rock concert.
