Hello, I've registered with Facebook some time ago and now I've tried to update my personal data when I found out that you have a problem with the link to the personal website of your users profiles. That link, if absent, becomes the facebook page when someone registers with FB, but still you duplicate the "http://http://" part (see photo in attachment). I am a web developer and that is like my job, so I suppose you've simply hardcoded the first "http://" and then forgot to make the check if the url contains the same "http" string, as in the register-with-facebook case. Keep up the good work, I love Instructables and I hope my feedback will help you. Igor

It does not appear possible to upload excel files (with or without Macros). Can any user point me to some sort of "official" documentation on this point either way? (Have tried multiple browsers at multiple times of day) I've made a timing system for sports races using RFID and Excel, and the Instructable is pretty pointless without the Excel file.

I'm somewhat disappointed that a site like this hasn't moved over to https by default, especially for the login form / while logged in. Further, when manually initiating https connections to instructables.com I get a certificate error as you're using a certificate for CN=a.ssl.fastly.net, and mixed content warnings about things coming through unencrypted. Is there any plan to correct the https configuration of the site?

Hi. I am preparing to start an Arduino project, simple one for now, that consist in reading temperature data and publishing it on the internet. I did in the past some info search on the topic of sending information to an online server where I could see the data. I had a list of several free sites that provide a simple way thru a url + a key to send information to the database. That was what I did want because that way I didn’t have to build, code an http server and so on. Now comes the part I need some help. I had a problem with my pc and lost most of my information, I know BACKUPS, but I didn’t have bookmark’s stored and lost all of them. Try to google for free online http data providers I just can’t find any. I want to send http code to a server using url + key + data and get that information publish on a site with graphs, etc. Can anyone point some sites that I can do that or other ways to get the same result? Thx for your time and help. Best, Serpa

Hi there, We manufacture CAN bus data loggers for use in e.g. cars, trucks etc.The logger records data to an SD card. When the logger is in range of a WiFi/Cellular hotspot, it will start pushing the data to a specified server. The files will be ½-20 MB in size and need to be transferred frequently (e.g. every few seconds). A user can have 100-300 loggers deployed, all sending data to the server simultaneously. Today, we handle this using the FTP protocol. It’s been a simple solution that most users understand. However, we fear it’s not future proof and we’d like to look into other options (e.g. HTTP, MQTT) - in particular also to enable easy transfers to e.g. Amazon/Google cloud servers.A few questions that we’d like input on:What do you believe would be the best protocol for the case described above? Do you have any examples of use cases, APIs, open source code etc. in such applications? If we switch from FTP to another protocol, is there a way to keep it simple for our “less techy” users that do not use e.g. Amazon/Google servers, but just their own PCs?Thanks a ton for your inputs! Martin

Hi, I'm trying to add a profile URL at the settings page. Our website is https only, but if I add an URL starting with "https://", then after save the "http://" part will be added to the front of the URL, resulting in something like "http://https://mysite.com". Attached screenshot after saving. I don't think it's a system issue, but anyways, same experience both with Firefox 39.0 and Chromium 44.0.2403.107, on Arch Linux 64-bit. The joule thief from this website was the first working one I built, mainly because I'd favoured one without a tapped inductor. Anyway, I pulled it out a couple of days ago, and started poking around with it. I noticed that if I put a 10uf (or maybe it was 1uf or 100uf, sorry, I don't remember) capacitor in parallel with the 0.001uf capacitor, the LED would start to flash. this would not happen with any other value however. Why does this happen? P.S: I've heard that this joule thief is poorly designed. Is this true?http://talkingelectronics.com/projects/LEDTorchCircuits/LEDTorchCircuits-P1.html

Can someone please make the device discussed below? According to researchers at Cambridge University, EMV (Europay, Mastercard, Visa) users must be even more aware of all charges applied to their accounts than ever before. They claim that there is an integral defect in EMV’s chip-and-PIN validation protocol for debit and credit cards. Subsequently, a machine can be built to alter and obstruct communications between a card and a point-of-sale terminal. The reason for alarm is that the terminal can be tricked into receiving a false PIN verification. Although there has been no record of this happening in the UK as of yet, researchers have created this hacking device in an attempt to illustrate the flaw. They were able to trick a card reader into validating transactions, without correct PIN numbers, with certified cards from six issuers including Barclaycard, Co-operative Bank, Halifax, Bank of Scotland, HSBC and John Lewis. The researchers contend that it does not take a rocket scientist to make such a device. The financial attacker could carry the device in a backpack with wires running down a sleeve, to connect to the stolen valid card and the terminal. Basically the device would override the verify PIN instruction dictated by the terminal, causing it to respond with the 0×9000 PIN verification code that allows the transaction to go through, even though the PIN is incorrect, therefore giving the attacker full access to your money. Although this is a frightening scenario, there are ways for you, the consumer, to protect yourself. Always keep constant watch over your bank statements and look out for possible fraudulent charges. If you happen to lose your card, get in contact with your bank immediately to cancel it.

I am trying to use this devise, to turn on a relay attached to a positive wire from a blinker can that sends the signal to the corresponding light. I have two in parallel so I can turn on and off a LH and a RH light with a momentary switch. (can't use a regular on off switch). It works perfectly when attached to its own power supply. I am using this in on a 12 volt system that has some other relays running various things in the system. when I hook this into the system, even directly from the battery, activating the other relays turns the relays on attached to this devise. I suspect it to be noise since it works great on its own power supply. I Tried running the power lead through a resistor and capacitor to help isolate the loop but didn't work. This is stretching my understanding of electricity. What I think I am looking for is how to wire this to isolate it's power +/- circuit from the rest of the system. Otherwise suggestions on how to trouble shoot. I know it is best to add a diagram but I don't know how to make one.
