I need a type of solenoid/servo device capable of moving a few millimeters at a fast speed. I am building a device that will tap a touchscreen for me via an electric signal (In this case, and arduino.) they need to be relatively cheap and small. I will have four of them evenly spaced over four inches (They need to be no wider than an inch, would much prefer they be less than a half inch in width. Height isn't important, and length should also be under an inch.) They also need to be fairly weak, i dont want one of them punching a hole in my tablets screen by accident. Doesn't need to be controlled by PWM, either off (Not touching) or on (Touching) will work fine. Please do leave links along with the name of the device/part.

Good day!I have a special problem and I am not even sure this is the right place where to ask for help... I have carpet in my office and by walking around I get charged like a battery (electrostatic)...Often I touch someone and I get a shock! (Also the other person, at least I am not the only one...) This is pretty strong some times and annoying most of the times so I thought maybe I can make (or maybe it exists already) a bracelet or a ring or anything with a LED or with any kind of resistance that I could wear and it could "decharge" me. I think I can figure out how to make something fancy but I am not that, lets say, skilled in electronic and I don't know what would actually do the job. Am I the only one with such problem? Does anyone have any idea?

I recently got a shit webcam from my friend and took it apart and noticed the color of the wires were awefully similar to the ones on my ipod connector i recently had to rebuild. They both use USB! I spliced them together and while doing so, I thought to myself "self, how could i run it once i'm done? My question is, the rockbox program for ipod puts its programs on ipod nanos to play video, why not use this hole in the ipods security and replace the rockbox files with a webcam program to make the webcam attached connector functional? Thanks, instructa-fan

I need a pretty loud speaker for my I-pod classic. As you probably noticed, money is tight lately and I do not have 30 dollars to spend on a special I-pod speaker. It does not need to be a radio, clock, etc. All I want is a speaker. Does anyone know if I could use a computer speaker or something else? Thanks!

Ok, one of my idea for a current project is to recreate my own model/version of the game pod out of the David Cronenberg film eXistenZ.If your unfamilar, see the pics and video - Essentially the 'game pod' is a biological virtual reality games console. And i must say i am a fan of the film. Now, i need some help, both with ideas, and with build methods.Ideas- I require an idea as the the use of the device - eg, an external hdd enclosure, a wallet, what ever.- I Have a base that im going to use, in the form of a beach stone. So the size is 125mm x 125mmMethods- Although i have a base 'stone' i need to sculpt a little extra, to make the nodule like bits. and genrally curve the shape a bit, what can i use? would bondo do? and whats the UK equilivent?- I want to have a silicon like finish, like the film, i was planning liquid latex, is that a good idea? what else is there thats better?I would appreciate any help anyone can give.ThanksGmjhowe

Could you include an Apple Touch Icon on the website? I know Instructables doesn't have an iOS app. Primary reason being that you want to focus on the website. I fully support that. I would like to add a shortcut to Instructables (my feed) on my iOS devices and I would like the bookmark to have a proper (Apple Touch) icon. Just because it looks nice and I think it would support Instructables' web app approach. Thanks.

Hello, I am currently trying to decide how to build a large "cryo-pod" prop for a theatrical production. Essentially, it has to be a large tube that I can install some kind of a door/hatch in. It must also be able to fit a person inside it. I have a lot of ideas for making the circuitry and decorations, but I am not sure how to build the chamber itself. The budget is extremely limited. We are talking about 30-40 dollars maximum. I was thinking of building a tube form and using papier mache, and sanding it smooth on the outside to create the cylinder. This method would take a very long time. Alternately, I was considering obtaining some kind of flexible sheet good and placing it over a frame. Does anyone have an experience in building large cylinders like this? Any recommendations on construction materials or techniques?

Hey :) i have a sweet idea of building a touch screen keyboard that's separate from the monitor. i kno their are already some on the market but it be way cooler if i could build one myself. after doing some research i found the easiest way with the most versatility would be to have a touch screen ontop of a display and have the display then attached to a chip which would relay the image of the custom keyboard. the keyboard then would be hooked up to the computer and would function like a normal keyboard but soundless. :D the problem in all this planning is 1 i don't know how to put everything together, even though Ive been reading up , my knowledge of hardware design is minimal and 2 i don't know how to write programs, but if its any consolation im teaching my self simple programming like C++ but i doubt that will help. anyways , any suggestions Thanks a million Justin

Is there such a thing as a switch that is touch sensitive so just a tap will activate it. I want to make a lamp out of an empty glass coke bottle and i want to be able to touch the cap to activate it. Im looking for a small piece of silver metal that will match the cap so i can place it on top, OR a way to make the actual cap the switch. Thanks!

So I've known this for awhile and to be honest it doesn't bother me to badly but my Zip series is much more popular than my Competitor series. The first Zip has more views than my first Competitor which has been out for months, but I do realize the philosophy out with the old, in with the new so I could see the original Competitor collecting dust, after all, it doesn't even have a mag lock! Anyway the main reason I'm starting this forum topic is to find out what you like about the Zip series. Has it been the concepts I have been applying in each pump action model? Was it the styling, which was more spontaneous and sci-fi? Maybe it was a hidden preference for the ergonomics of pump action. The truth is, I don't know and I want you knexer's to tell me what you like or dislike about my Zips and Competitors. Using this information I will be able to build a better Competitor or maybe just refocus on building Zip4.

Hello. I have a lot of threads stretched vertically. I want to detect the touch them. So that you can then play them like a guitar for example). What is the easiest way to do it (detect touch, not to make a guitar)? What kind of sensors could you recommend for that?

I took apart a stud finder to see how it worked. Did a quick google search and figured out they work similar to tough sensitive lamps (capacitance). So after soldering an on off switch to replace the push button on it, I taped it to my door, and fine tuned the sensitivity wheel. Now when someone touches the doorknob (on either side of the door), It lights ups.

As it is right now, I leave it in my shop on the dock and use a remote (Griffin) that came with the dock to turn it on and off. This sucks because I have to leave my music at home. Ideas or suggestions are welcome. I am mechanically adept, and am semi-capable with electronics.... can't read a schematic to save my soul though. Thanks for any help or ideas. Can't afford to replace it.
