How can I convert .bin to .img for router (OpenWRT) reflash?

I am trying to get my head around installing OpenWRT on my Netgear dg834gt. I have found the hardware page, identified the correct image and downloaded it. As per instructions I attempted to pass the .bin file to the web interface, however the web interface only accepts .img files. Is there any method of converting between these presumably different formats? I could get a jtag/serial connection to the target but I'm waiting on a cable, so the Web interface would be preferable. Any help is appreciated, Thanks in advance, Drew p.s. I'm a Linux user. Also, I have no idea if this is a daft question or not.

1W LED Help..

I'm new to this site and after what I've seen here very excited to try some of the projects...especially the ones having to do with modifying power tools batteries...but I digress...I read the write up about the 1W LED's and it was very helpful...my project entails using these LED's in the creation of an integrated tail light for a motorcycle...I was thinking 3 of these lights in red as the running and brake lights...I know they have the potential of being extremely bright...I wanted to run the running lights at normal output, as not to blind anyone, and the brake lights to come on very bright..currently I made a brake light with 5mm and 10mm LED's but looking for something a bit different and brighter...Here are some pics of my prototype:So my question is what is the lowest brightness I can go to run constantly and what is the maximum brightness I can go without burning up a my entire tail light? Also where do I get resistors that can handle these LED's? I wanted to string them together in parallel because since they are tail lights if one blows out I will still have the rest running..

Solve this logic puzzle if u can!

Here the puzzle:Questions: Imagine that you have the layouts of 4 coloured cubes(ABOVE), named A, B, C and D. When the cubes are placed in (alphabetical) order in a straight line, and it is viewed from any horizontal or vertical position (front, back, top, bottom, left, right), there are always four different colours seen.Given that when I pick a corner of A, the 3 sides connected to it read "653", find the same orientation of B, C and D as 1 string of numbers. For example, "152421563".

I embed them using the img html tag. The image is correctly shown in the edition window. When I press "preview", the images are no longer shown. I have tried different sizes and formats, some have briefly worked (= were shown in the preview window), but all ended up disappearing at one point or another.

want help with a possible future steampunk instructible

okay, so i want to make a steampunk contraption.  at first it was going to be a spring loaded gun like the derringer thing in sherlock holmes but with a huge gun (i actually have feasible plans in my head for that one.)  but it drifted off to make an even bigger gun.   i thought, and came up with an awesome idea. a retractable Gatling gun arm.  the gun will move forward, and backward, and will spin around. i made a 3d example to show what i mean, if i can figure out how to post it. Electoplating wood. CHEMISTRY QUESTIONS!

Hello guys, Thanks alot for reading. I don't know much about chemistry outside of my one high school class. We electroplated a penny. I have a 1.5ish square-foot piece of wood, and i am wanting to CHROME IT.... chrome paint kits cost hundreds of dollars, and i've before seen chrome-plated wood.. and i want to replicate the results. I'm looking for a cost effective alternative to expensive chrome kits (+300 dollars for a pint)In theory.... my method would involve somehow plating the guitar with some sort of metallic based paint, then submerging it in a chrome bath. IS THIS POSSIBLE??Is there a metal chemical that can somehow be applied evenly to the entire surface of the wood? (i.e. paint?)What, and how much of the specific chemicals do i need, and where can i find them?I really want this to be mirrored. Thanks so much for your responses to my problem:P

Printing to scale.

I often want to print a diagram to scale. Often times the diagram is also larger then the sheetof paper. ( A sample diagram is at:http://www.boomerangpassion.com/plans/img/b08.gifhttp://www.boomerangpassion.com/plans/img/b08.gif. If you want to see other similar diagrams you can look at:http://www.boomerangpassion.com/plans/index_en.phphttp://www.boomerangpassion.com/plans/index_en.phpThough not all the diagrams I want to print are boomerangs.I am using Debian Etch, Cups, Gimp to modify the images which I save as postscript then print via lpr.My printer is a Lexmark Optra E312L, which can handle both pcl6 and postscript.I print the diagram once, measure something and figure the scaling factor. I then use Gimp to scale.Sometimes I just save and print sometimes, sometimes I break it up into overlapping parts and print. In either case the result is the same. Either the diagram gets shrunk to 1/4 it's size ( even though I blew it up), or the daigram it off by a bit, no matter how I tweak. it seems not to be predictable either. Worse when I try to line up two overlapping printouts the size don't match, so I can't really join them. Can someone show how to use Gimp, cups and a postscript printer to print something to scale. From everything i read I should be able to do it, but I guess there is some piece of software in the process thatis saying "Guy is too stupid to print it up right, I have to rescale for him".

But I was wondering if anyone knows how to make it into a usb device (like those small numpad attachments you can buy) I don't know much about these kind of topics, so any and all help is greatly appreciated. The model number is Ceeco 700-100 rev3. I would attach a picture of it but I accidentally left my phone at work. So instead here is a picture of one that looks like it. It looks almost exactly like this http://i01.i.aliimg.com/img/pb/418/173/607/607173418_606.jpg and has 8 different color wires coming out the back Thanks in advance Jwag

Ten Years

It's been nearly ten years since a load of people got excited about the year 2000 and the 21st century, what did we achieve? Well Fox changed (the logo if nothing else) from 20th to 21st 2001 Wikipedia and iPod launched, World Trade Centre demolished (by uncertain contractor). 2002 The discovery of Quoaoar leads to Pluto being declassified as a planet 2003 Facebook launched 2004 Those robots land on Mars, Indian Ocean earthquake / tsunami 2005 Instructables launched YouTube launched, New Orleans drowns. Chas & Dave play the Holmfirth Picturedrome (img) 2006 (for the mathematicians) the Poincare conjecture is proven (right word?) MySpace launched (subsequently bought by Murdoch at what was definately much more than it's worth) 2008 LHC starts up 2009 LHC starts up again, Moon "bombed" What events the last 10 years mean something to you? *the basis of the list came from New Scientist No2739/40/41

How to hook up a microphone to sound responsive led circuit?

I want to make a deadmau5 helmet for a friend, and i want the eyes to light up. i have an old circuit saved from speakers like this: http://i1.expansys.com/img/b/127994/premier-systems-travel-ipod-speakers.jpg except the speakers light up in response to music. I gutted the speakers a while ago for another project, but the leds from it still light up when plugged into an ipod. I would like to hook up a mic to it so that it will light up to noise instead of having it plug into an ipod, however the mic only has +/- terminals from what i can tell, and the headphone wire-input has 3. Im no EE, is the green one supposed to be the ground, and the red/copper are the +/-?  here is the mic i am looking at: http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2062216&filterName;=Type&filterValue;=Microphone+elements here is the circuitboard (i circled the wires in question):

Converting a Laptop LCD into a Lightbox

Hi everybody. I've salvaged the LCD screen from an old laptop (an ASUS F3J). I wanna try to convert it into a lightbox (something like this http://www.x2jiggy.com/blog/2013/4/29/faulty-lcd-monitor-lightbox.html ). My biggest problem is: I only have the screen and the inverter (so if I'm lucky I only have to power the inverter to light up the backlight of the screen) but I don't know the voltage needed by the inverter or where I have to solder the power plug. I've found a tutorial http://www.technibble.com/forums/showthread.php?t=38262 but my inverter seem to miss the ground-vled-ledon-pwn copper pad for testing. Here is an image of my inverter http://img.alibaba.com/img/pb/337/805/232/1261898841289_hz_myalibaba_web7_9448.jpg . Does anybody know how I can reuse my inverter for powering on the backligh of the LCD screen? Can I bypass the inverter powering directly the screen? If possible I wanna avoid to buy or DIY a backlight tester https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vhEGW46uCVc because I only need to light up one screen, I really don't need a full functional LCD screen tester kit. Thanks in advance ^_^ PS: sorry for the bad english

Magnetic Levitation Tram? Answered

Hello there instuctables, I need your help with a project i am attempting, i am in the process of making a maglev tram and i have a couple questions i need help with? 1. I have a simple circuit for a linear motor that i understand to the most part but i need help with finding an electromagnet to use / make, it needs to run on batteries and obviously the main concern here is weight and stability so the smaller the better but still needs to be strong enough to propel the tram along the track so i suppose my real question is what ammount of winding, resistance and core material would be suitable for whatever voltage i could provide! 2. Next i suppose what way round should i place the magnets, should i place many electromagnets on the rail with sensorsand permanent magnets on the tram, or should i have a powered electromagnet on the tram and permanent magnets on the track? 3. Also what hall sensor should i use to detect the magnetic fields, unipolar switches or ratiometric sensors? 4. And finally control, how would i control the motion of the tram i.e. speed and direction? Id like to thank you all in advance for any help you could provide and i hope my description is accurate enough!! many regards, Scott Photo of simple linear motor circuit (img.1) When the hall sensor (switch) senses a pole of a magnet, it activates the transistor, in turn magnetising the relay and causing the current in the electromagnet (motor) to run one direction, then as the opposite pole is detected the relay de-magnetises and reverses the current thus reversing the pole on the electromagnet! This is designed so that with permanent magnets on the track in an alternating fashion of poles (nsnsns) the tram is either pushed or pulled along the track!

How would I build a Packing Peanuts Dispenser (ceiling mounted) for my home office (7' Ceiling)? Answered

I have looked all over the internet for a few days trying to find some DIY plans for building this and I haven't come across even one building plan for it. I know this is something a large number of people would love to find. I have a home business and I pack a ton of things at home for shipping. Commercial Packing Peanut (Loose Fill) Dispensers (Ceiling Mounted) are entirely too expensive for our small budget and I want to build my own. I have 7' ceilings and my packing station (table) is approx.  28.5" high. I would like the bottom of the dispenser opening (valve) to be approx. 20"-24" above the table so that I have some room to put boxes underneath it.  I would like the holding area (bag) to be able to hold between 10-15 cubic feet of packing peanuts so I don't mind if it takes up a lot of ceiling space. It wouldn't have to hang very far down from the ceiling as I can reach up that high to unhook/release it to refill it when I need to. The closer I could mount the top to the ceiling the better. I could either mount the dispenser to the ceiling from each corner of the bag or centrally mounted with a chain coming off each corner and meeting in the middle. It wouldn't matter to me either way. Here's a link to what I'm looking to build. http://a763.g.akamai.net/7/763/1644/4/app.infopia.com/img/image/fp/VPID/7237005/img4/img.jpg Of course, it needs to be not as deep as I have limited vertical space to work with. Anyone with any ideas with be greatly appreciated!

HOORAY! MIT!

So I'm a bit late getting around to this, but last week I pretty much had the best pi day ever. MIT, being who they are, celebrated pi day by releasing admission decisions on pi day. This year, since it's the class of '15, they posted them at exactly 9:26pm (3/14, '15, 9:26). The entire day seemed to inch by soo slowly... the suspense killed me. Having been deferred from early action, I didn't want to be too hopeful, but how can you not be? MIT was my number one, but it was a complete reach. So at 9 that night, I was with some friends celebrating pi day (and preemptively celebrating our MIT rejection/acceptance.) By the time 9:26 came around... the servers had been DDoS'd. How anti-climatic... :P 15 minutes later of constant refreshing on my phone, and I finally got a page with text. For those of you who haven't had the experience, many colleges post decisions online: you can't gauge your acceptance on the size of the envelope anymore. Instead, you stare at a letter on the screen for 30 seconds, frantically skimming for some key word that reveals the answer. My jaw dropped as soon as I realized it. There was a moment of disbelief, however; I quickly tried to read as much as possible to make sure I understood correctly. I GOT IN! What followed was a blur, comprised mostly of frantic congrats, high-fives, hugs, texts, calls, facebook updates, and pi-themed-cupcakes-in-the-face. (blasphemous pastries, I know)  WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! I did, however, completely forget to post the news HERE! I know I haven't participated much in the community in the last few years, but before that, Instructables was huge in getting me interested in everything. There's just way too many awesome people doing awesome things. Heck, when I met Muffin, and saw him get into MIT, I had no idea that in 3 years we'd be starting a company together.  So yeah. I've been really excited recently. There are so many ideas I've wanted to instructablize recently... but haven't really had the time. (The time machine doesn't work that well yet either). Although I haven't posted or commented, I've still been lurking a bit :-) [img]
