I have a 4 battery pack  i want to use for an usb charger i need ro know what diode i need to use the battery pack gives off close to 6 v but i have a USB DC-DC Converter 3V to 5V 1A Adjustable Step-up Boost Power Supply Module. I know i need a diode i need so that the current from what  im chargeing does not go back into the battery but at the same time i need the batteries to give off as close to 5 v that it can work with the module. what i need is which one can i use to so this?  

I was wondering if any one has some good ideas to help me with an annoying problem if it can be helped. I like to on occasion get used jeans like pants est and colour them using the ready to dye from a box. I pour the contents in to a large pot, add water, add an article of clothing and simmer for an hour or more. Then I rinse it under cold water and dry. After I wear the thing, it comes time for it to get washed, I notice a lot of colour bleeds out in to the water again. It doesn’t seem to change the intensity of the colour job but I was wondering if there’s a way of making the colour bleed less when I wash my article of clothing. Am I missing something? Should I do a salt bath after I dye the clothing? Just that the instructions say it has every thing in the powder. Suggestions appreciated. Thanks.

Instructables is going back into the publishing business! OK, so it's not much of a secret, what with a bunch of people getting emails about their projects going into them, but individual comments are building into a bigger picture: Instructables is following up The Book with a bunch of eBooks - a BIG bunch of eBooks. I don't know the titles, yet, but there are going to be... (counts on fingers, runs out) more than several (in aPub format, maybe Kindle too?).  Did you get an email?  Are you going to be in one of them? If you find out a theme or title, add a comment. Can we work out what they all are before The Powers That Be let us know officially? Oh, and get this - at least some of the several will be free for pro members to download!  Now there's even more of a reason to post a cool project that could get freatured - a helping of free pro-ness would come with a side-order of eBookiness! (K'NEX?  Surely not?) Yes!  They're on the Kindle!

I just got hooked up with digital tv today, and www.wegener.com/PRODUCTS/STREAMING_MEDIA_DECODERS/SMD_515.php these are what they gave me for set top boxes. Little IPTV streaming boxes. I noticed there was a spare led labeled HD on the front, and upon further inspection, I found a ide connector and a power connector for a 3.5 inch hard disk. Normally my isp would want me to rent a different receiver for PVR functions, and additionally a lot more per reciever. This box can use a hard drive, but when I put one in, nothing happens when I plug it back in. Now apparently, from what I've read, my isp might have installed their own firmware onto the boxes, but I do not think that is the case, the menus look like the one's I've seen online. I expected for there to be an extra option pop up in the menu when I powered it on with a hard drive installed, but that was not the case... is it the format? I have a 40 gig in there (for a tester) formatted as fat32. What am I doing wrong here?? Oh yeah, and theres a screenshot I got off my tuner card, it only shows this "boot" screen when you unplug the power and plug it back in, otherwise when you switch it off, it seems to go into a "Soft-off" mode, and the hard disk I noticed also continues to spin after it's been turned off... I don't like that :S Anyways, I can't find anything online, so much as a quick reference manual on wegener's website, but it didn't provide anything useful, it vaguely mentioned the recording function, but nothing of installing a hard disk or setting it up. I assume there should be SOME kind of menu/setup I can get into to setup the hard drive/view more options other than the audio format and some other minor options I can currently see like menu appearance. I'm super fascinated to see if I can get a hard drive actually functioning on here, like the remote even has a record button on it, so obviously it was meant to be a pvr, just they expect you to pay them out the nose for them to put one in for you.

 i don't know what to make. if some makes a instructable and helps me i will make as best post and if they don't have the parts i will make instructable.

Hi all,  I am a home brewer and I have attempted several times, time with no success, to do what I'm trying to do. I have a turkey fryer(A.) that I boil my brew in. In the large stock pot I have a perforated basket(B.) that fits inside and essentially I am trying to create a rigid wire mesh screen(C.) the same size as the basket. Kida like this(D.) so that after I boil my wort, I can pull out the basket and let the grains drain and avoid all of the grain in  the finish product. Does that make sense? The problem is forming the screen and stitching it together.I know that there is a specific way to form and fold the wire mesh and stitch it together so that there will be no gaps and have a strong bond but I haven't figured it out. This isn't brain surgery but I'm not doing something right. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Hi guys, gals and robots of course I am having trouble finding out what type of sealer and the required wattage needed to weld high quality annexe matting which is about 3mm thick x 2 - 6mm all up. It is 98% nylon. I need something with about 600mm long jaws and variable heat and probably 6mm weld width? I am working on the eye controller board of the hexapod robot and it has some resistors on it. The parts list calls for 12 220 Ohm resistors but, based on the photos, there are more that what it shows in the text. The 12 near the top of the board I know are the 220 Ohm ones, but I do not know what the others are. The 2 vertical ones near the bottom I believe are 20 Ohm and the horizontal one closest to the bottom 220 Ohm. The 2 located underneath the 28-pin sockets are half-covered by the plastic. Does anyone have a suggestion on the value of these resistors? I included a picture of the board from the instructable page and circled the resistors in question.

Basically I am building a robot and I have reworked some servos on a rc control to switch current from + to - and back to - and + depending on which way the joystick is. so at the top of the pic is my + - in that can switch to - + I need a curcuit that will run to different relays depending on the direction of current. Will the one I made work. I'm wondering if the power will feedback throught the other relay. by the way the black arrows are diodes Also does anyone know the difference between a reed relay and a regular relay. I looked it up but it doesent make much sense.

My brother just gave me this knife for my B'day. i would like to know where its from. The markings are very worn. It says on the right side of the blade "MO or MC-----" and more, but unreadable. The left says " P----", also unreadable. Here is a picture of both sides too. It looks like a Gurhka style knife. Its 14.5 " OA  and the blade is 9.75 ". Blade is 1/4 " thick. It has a full tang handle too. I thought it was a bayonet but it has no rifle barrel hole on top nor does it have any attachment point. Any help identifying this knife will be deeply appreciated! I was recently asked to make some mods to a program I made a few years ago, however, I can't for the life of me find my source code.  Does anyone know of a free decompiler that I can use?  I tried a few that I found on Google, but they all wanted money, and I'm not willing to spend the money. I made the program with VB express 2005, (the file I want to decompile is a .exe file obviously) and I currently use Visual Studio 2010.  (I still have my VB 2005 install disc if I need it... but I think there is no reason why I should need it) Thanks in advance!

Japanese technology companies are renowned for their innovations. But, really, what completely new products have come out of Japan in the last decade? It seems that Japan has lost its creativity, and slipped into serial innovation, producing upgraded versions of established sellers (sounds like Apple?). There are Makerspaces, but not as we know them. Tokyo is home to a Makerspace stuffed with a 1bn yen ($8.5m; £5.5m) worth of equipment, but it's behind serious security and costs $250/month to be a member. It's more of a tech start-up incubator than the Makerspaces we know in the US & UK. I know Japanese makers exist, they had their own Makerfaire, but the stuff they make is subtly different.  It's "finished".  Every hobby 3d printer, drone or CNC machine I have seen has had exposed workings, loose wires, visible guts that you can see doing stuff.  Duct tape is a styling must.   Japanese projects have hidden internals, sleek, professional-looking enclosures and casings.  Even one-off projects look like they came from a warehouse with another ten thousand stored in crates. I'm not saying this is a bad thing.  It's just a different aesthetic (me, I like seeing stuff do stuff, rather than a polished case flash an LED to tell me it has finished silently doing hidden stuff), but where does it happen? Do all Japanese Makers have professional-quality workshops hidden under their bed? Does anybody know?  Do we have any Japanese makers here to tell me I'm wrong?

Hello guys, My question is about how chains and their links work. We know to old saying that a chain is only as strong as its weakest link. Regarding links, assume a 1000lb. weight is suspended by one oval shaped steel link. Each of the ends of the oval link, with one end to the hook and the other end to the weight, are holding in tension 500lbs, 1000lbs or another amount of weight? Thinking about it another way, for the same 1000lb weight, if now suspended by a chain of 10 links of the same types of links, is the 100lbs evenly distributed to the 10 links where each link is holding 100lbs plus the weight of the additional links below it? If so, then the more links there are in the chain, the more weight (tension force) the chain can hold. Correct or does it not work out that way? Please clarify. Thanks, Bretina

I bought the RAMPS and Arduino Mega 2560 and 5 stepper drivers. I plugged in everything to the pc and everything was working perfectly. I installed all my arduino drivers easily. Then at my friends place when I plugged the psu to the mains and turned everything on, 1 of the stepper drivers started smoking from the chip attached to it and got fried. I think it was  due to too much voltage. After a while removing the burnt driver when I connected my Arduino to the pc, the pc does not find its hardware. Only this 1 light stays on and nothing happens. I don't see that there is any physical damage to the board.. but there might be .. I am not sure what to do now.. I want to know if I can check wether the board is still working and how can I connect it to the pc?
